@fitandnerdy What everyone else said. You are awesome and amazing, as my 3yo would say. Don't let anyone take that away from you.
Ds2 felt the need to be up half the night, and he felt that I should be up with him. I'm so tired. He only took an hour long nap, so today should be just super fun.
This is a little embarrassing to admit, but I kind of enjoyed the attention I got while pregnant with DS and am looking forward to aspects of it with this pregnancy. It is just such a special time and it can be nice to see how happy it makes other people. That being said, I was very lucky to experience very little inappropriate or intrusive comments or behavior from others with DS. I never even had a non family member touch my belly! I also hate how dehumanizing it can be, like @riatortillaxo mentioned, especially at work.
On another note, today was the first day I had to leave work due to my symptoms. I was hit by intense nausea and was worried I'd end up puking in the bathroom. Luckily I'm feeling better now that I'm home, but I didn't want to take a chance. I am literally a day away from my second tri so I am bummed that the nausea is worse all of a sudden.
@gomillis Oh no! I'm glad you are feeling better now at home. Being home always helps! Maybe it was just something you ate that didn't agree with you? Hoping this isn't a new trend for you, fx! I'm surprised to hear that you made it through your first pregnancy with YS and no strangers touched your bump!! I sincerely hope I'm that lucky... I've heard some horror stories and generally don't like strange people in my personal space, let alone touching me... I tend to be a germaphobe.

My husband wanted to do a sort of reveal because he knew my mom has been struggling since my dad passed away. He thought it would be a great way to cheer her up and I agreed. So yesterday I got the envelope with the sex and took it to the party store. They put a balloon in the box, we ordered pizza, and got cupcakes for the kids.
My sister, niece, and my mom came over. And while we were waiting anxiously at the door for my husband to get home so we could open the box, I realized my 2 year old snuck away. I rounded the corner into the dining room and there she was, holding the blue balloon 😂.
I quickly stuffed it back into the box so no one else would see it. So I got my own individual reveal. And then I got to reveal to my family 3 minutes later. Our video makes me laugh because it’s my fake second reaction. But I can’t stop laughing at how it went down.
And this is why I don’t ever do these things. It’s always a hot mess!
Man, I admire you ladies who are going to school and working full-time jobs while preparing for a baby/already raising kids so much. I think about working moms all the time and how y'all are out there killing it. I've been a SAHM since two months before having my first, and for real, I'm just trying to get through the day. Don't get me wrong, my kids and I have fun, and I love being around for every milestone. (DH missed so much of DS's first year on deployments, and I didn't miss a thing.) I'm fortunate for the ability to be around these crazy kiddos all day, but man, it is HARD. I don't know how I would juggle anything else with what's already on my plate. I think about moms giving up the very little sleep they do get to study for exams in the middle of the night or paying insane prices for childcare so they can go to work, then coming home and working some more, getting kids fed and tucked in. One of my girl friends is an artist, and she legit makes coffee, listens to her podcasts, and stays up all night to work on commissions, then gets up and takes care of her two boys all day. On top of that, she bartends a few evenings a week to pull in extra cash. I tell her all the time that she's super mom, and compared to her and so many others, I feel like I have nothing to complain about.
What I'm trying to say is y'all are so inspiring and are truly incredible ladies.
@fitandnerdy Screw whatever literally anyone is going to say about you. You'll be working 20 times harder than any of them, and I have no doubt that you'll surpass them all. What's right for their lives isn't what's right for everyone, and I'm sorry you have to deal with such a bullshit stigma in the first place.
@gomillis I've been lucky to not have many creeps touch my belly, but I HAVE had plenty of weirdos touch my children after they're born. Makes me want to kangaroo kick them. I remember one incident at Target, the cashier had these super long, fake fingernails that just grossed me out, honestly, and she took one of those things and stroked my newborn son's cheek with it. I wanted to vom. I'm sorry you weren't feeling well at work! Hopefully all this yuckiness subsides soon!
Edited for typo and to add @tyrion_, that's hilarious. Good thing you noticed the balloon was missing before the big reveal! I'm sorry it was a little ruined for you, but it's still a cute story!
laur84ns how does maternity leave work in Canada in your situation? Do you need to work x amount of hours before you can get the benefit of the full year of leave?
fitandnerdy I don't get how having a kid in grad school could mess up your job prospect in the future. If anything it shows that you can juggle school, kid(s), and possibly a job and be that badass women! Don't even let those men put any seed of doubt into your mind about what you can accomplish during and after your pregnancy while being in school! If the man cold is any indication the strength of man, men would never be able to go through a pregnancy while working, going to school, and/or taking care of kid(s).
Add me to the list of the app sucking ass. So if it takes awhile for me to respond or participate it's because I've given up on the app and will respond at work. I don't understand why they have been having the same issue for years with the app. I'm sure they make plenty of money to correct it. But we all know that companies are all about keeping more money in the pockets then fixing things.

oh, yes. I have been using my phone's mobile browser to circumvent all the app issues for months now. But even with that now, takes forever for the threads to load. I feel like I'm just wasting so much time every day, watching my phone do nothing! LOL
@riatortillaxo Exactly! I don't really like sharing that I'm pregnant with anyone that isn't close family! Even when people ask "how are you?" And I answer with something non-pregnancy related it seems like they are not ready to hear it and don't even process it like they otherwise would. Or they think any short answer if how I'm feeling is directly related to the pregnancy. It makes me so upset.
@lachnessmomster I have a ton of respect for SAHMs. Sometimes, going to work is like a break compared to being in the trenches with DS. At least I don’t have to wipe anyone’s butt at work. Anyway, I think moms in general are strong and incredible no matter how they do it.
I hate when strangers touch DS too. I also hate when they try too hard to like trade him and get his attention. It gives me the creeps as a parent and I always hated it as a kid.
@tyrion_ Your private reveal sounds too cute! Hopefully that memory will keep you smiling for years to come.
@gomillis I have basically already decided at this point that I don't want to go into academia, at least not at an R1 school. Maybe I'll change my mind when I get to the job market, but at this point I've pretty much settled on industry or government, so it's good to hear that you've had such a good transition away from academia!
So I saw that the Bella twins, from wrestling, are about 2 weeks apart and that Nikki is 13 weeks tomorrow. I'm curious if celebrities ever join sites like this and no one ever knows.
Sorry for the big picture again:

@blackgirlmagic I saw that earlier, too! I'm not a huge fan or anything, but it's always kind of cool to have a celebrity to follow along with during a pregnancy journey! I always wanted my pregnancies to align with one of Kate Middleton's.
@blackgirlmagic Yes, you have to work for 16 weeks preceding your leave (in a job where you contribute a small amount each month to “employment insurance”, which is most jobs, but some entrepreneurs may not qualify) to qualify for the year of mat leave. Actually we can choose to take between 12-18 months of leave but you are only paid for 12 so if you take 18 you have to stretch that $ over the 18 months. You get paid a percentage of your salary so you’re usually not making a full salary (unless your employer also chips in and pays you a stipend per month too which some do). This benefit isn’t offered by individual employers, it’s offered by our federal government so anyone can take it - as long as they’ve worked in a job that takes employment insurance deductions off their paycheques, which is most jobs. So when I go back to work in March from my current 1 year mat leave I will need to work at least 16 weeks to qualify for a second leave. Luckily 16 weeks takes me to the end of June and I’m due at the end of August so I should be good there (knock on wood!!!)
So I was supposed to get lunch with a friend tomorrow. She invited our other friend who just returned today from China (not Wuhan)... would you guys still go or bail?
@laur84ns Canada really has the right priorities in terms of taking care of families. It’s unbelievable to me how backwards the US is w/r/t family leave.
@WishesSheCouldCook they don’t know I am pregnant.. I was going to tell them probably after my doctors appointment next week but maybe I’ll tell them sooner so they understand lol
@fitandnerdy I 100% would not go regardless of pregnancy status.
@lachnessmomster I actually find being a working mom easier than being a SAHM. As a SAHM you're doing the same things all day every day and never get a break. When I go to work, I interact with people who have logic and reason (to a certain degree lol) and don't ask me "what are you doing?" 197 times in a row. I've tried SAHM'ing and it's just not for me, so I have mad respect for you and others who are able to do it without losing your minds.
@gomillis I do feel very lucky with regards to our maternity and parental benefits. There’s also a new benefit as of last year (I missed out on it by 4 days because DD was born right before it came into effect) where your partner gets 5 weeks of leave as well with some pay - it’s meant to encourage the husband / spouse / other partner to take some leave and help more with childcare. My husband and I will definitely take advantage of it this time around. @WishesSheCouldCook I love the idea of a name thread! This is my third so I’ve run out of ideas haha!
@fitandnerdy I would 1000% cancel and not feel the tiniest bit bad. Your and baby's health are #1. Just walking through the airport could pick anything up... nope nope nope 😷
@lachnessmomster SAHMs totally rock!! 🔥 I don't think I could do it. Hubs and I always agreed if one of us could stay home it would be him.

I’m freaking sick again. It sucks that we can’t take Sudafed. And that this is my 85th virus this fall/winter, 79 of which were from my coworkers and only maybe 6 were from my toddler.
@samsonator I'm not looking forward to telling work either. It's partly because I'm already a pretty private person at work; I don't really talk to people about my personal life because I don't like my job and want to keep those two worlds as separate as possible. But it's also because I enjoy sharing the news with those I'm close with and love and want to celebrate with. I don't like most of the people I work with lol.
Past two nights the weird dreams have all come back... Last night I was talking with Cindy lauper - who looked fantastic in this 20's inspired mermaid gown - she said it took no less than FIFTY FITTINGS, to get it just right! 😯
@fitandnerdy I agree with the others. I would not go (regardless preggo or not) unless they've been back for least two weeks and feeling fine. My company is quarantining employees traveling from China-- they can't come into the office for two weeks and have to work from home. I heard this morning there are 5 confirmed cases of this virus in the USA.
I'm at the dr waiting on my u/s, then dr with a pap, then my NIPT! It felt like it took forever to get here and now I'm impatient all over again, waiting.
Glad to see everyone is agrees about not going to the lunch and I wasn’t overreacting! I came up with an excuse and bailed... and then my friend that just returned from China said she wasn’t going because she’s doing a self quarantine for 2 weeks!
@fitandnerdy Aww I'm sorry that you aren't going to get to see your friend now since the other is self-quarantining (thankfully!). Can you just tell your friend the reason you bailed and still meet up with her? Then when you tell her you're preggo she'll totally understand lol.

My child has developed a stomach bug.. I'm running on 4 hours of sleep divided into 2, 2 hour shifts trying to tend her so my husband could sleep and get to work today. She's not eating, she's barely drinking... but no fever. She's napping. This child stopped napping unless we were on long car rides 2 years ago.. and while I feel awful for her (and I have been wiping down everything she has touched in the last 24 hours) I am so thankful for the quiet. She has been off the walls lately.
Also I love her to bits so I've got grape Gatorade Popsicles freezing for her right now in hopes when she wakes up I can tempt her with a "treat." Now I am just hoping it stays away from me because I am not here to feel sick anymore.
@RedBaramid Oh, no! Poor little thing. I hope she feels better after her nap and can try to eat one of her popsicles. I always just want a break from DS's daily insanity, but when he gets sick, then it kills me that he's so down. I just want him to be back to his normal, wild self. Hopefully it doesn't stick around long!
