@clammycolt My sister was 7 and I was 5 when my brother was born and we loved it. We were big enough to really understand what was happening and to help out a little and honestly we've been his extra parents his whole life. We fought A LOT but we were fiercely protective of him.

We also have a loud dog and honestly I have the world's loudest husband (plus at the time my stepdaughter was a senior in high school so I had teenagers around quite a bit) and I was really worried about having a sleeping newborn in the mix but I think he was so used to the dog and the husband and the bustle of our house (I gave up on trying to shush everyone pretty quickly) that he slept straight through. Now once he is out he is out. You can play music full tilt or watch telly and this kid can sleep through it all. It is one of the few things I will concede that my husband was right about.

@beaandthebabes, thank you for that! We have not told him yet but it is his biggest dream (to be a big bro). I love hearing that you and your sis loved having a newborn join your crew. Thanks!

And thank you for the noise reassurance!

@clammycolt Our 1st and 3rd are 9 years apart and they have the most incredible relationship!  <3 I was nervous because he was hoping for a brother and got a sister. The minute he saw her at the hospital that’s all it took. She had him wrapped around her fingers! Each day before school if she’s still asleep he has to wake her up to say goodbye, he is so gentle and helpful with her 24/7. It’s wonderful and I don’t foresee it changing much.

beaandthebabes @chasingroygbiv it does seem like SCHs are common. My OB made me feel like this is very touch and go and day to day.. but my radiology report says its small? My other symptoms are crazy strong so I feel like LO is doing well. My OB said most people just don't bleed with them.. She seemed pessimistic rather than some of the optimistic doctors I've heard others have.

@tuesdayw1992 trust me, that not wanting to talk about your child all the time tends to change after they've arrived 😂
Also, if you need some pointers or support, hubby and I also live far from family. It's more difficult, especially when LO is being a pain and you just. Want. Five. Minutes. But it's not impossible. Just means you have to rely on each other and your local support group more

@flinstone-2 My doctor wasn't hugely concerned about it and I bled A TON. The nurse at my high risk specialist (for SCH and Placenta Previa) said that they aren't terribly common but that almost everyone she has seen with one was a redhead which I thought was random. They basically kept an eye on it and it eventually went away on its own. I bled from it randomly throughout the first half of my pregnancy at one point for about a week straight.
I am 100% not a doctor or a person with really any more knowledge than the google can give me but I did have a fairly large SCH and it really didn't bother anything apart from scaring me a few times. I'm not sure if something like location could make it more of a scary thing?
  • Options
@beaandthebabes wait, what?! I'm a redhead, are you? When I gave birth to my son the doctor told me that I needed to take my prenatal vitamin for a few extra months because "redheads bleed more" and he assumed i lost a decent amount of blood. Also, did your doctor put you on bedrest or pelvic rest? I'm on pelvic rest and have stopped exercising for now because I'm afraid to irritate it.

@flinstone-2 One of my doctors (I have a few) said he doesn’t get “too excited” about SCH unless it’s large and close to baby. TW* I had them with my losses, but I also had them with 2 of my successful pregnancies! They weren’t very big. Hard to know with so many differing opinions! Try and think positive even though I know that can be easier said than done.

@flinstone-2 I am a redhead. I was put on pelvic rest. Basically they told me to be gentle with myself but not to be too stressed. I had an emergency c-section and my blood loss wasn't too bad.
@chasingroygbiv One of my doctors said that if I had it with one pregnancy I would likely have it with others. I was hoping that wasn't true but that sounds pretty conclusive.
