Checked my weight and blood pressure. Heard the heartbeat with his doppler. Thought it would be louder but said it’s early and you don’t know where the baby is at the moment. Glad I heard something . Have to go do an echo for the baby’s heart as I have an auto immune disease (sjorens syndrome) just to make sure everything is ok. Also Have a requisition to do the harmony test. I live in Canada and apparently it’s supposed to narrow down any genetic/chromosome abnormalities I believe. Now I’m worried about the baby’s heart. Hope all goes well. That appointment is on Jan 27 🤞🏻
Everything went well at my first OB appointment. I didn't actually see my OB--saw the nurse practitioner instead. That surprised me since they didn't tell me that until I got there, but she was nice and took her time with me, so all was good. I love having Baby's U/S picture. Now whenever I feel anxious, I just stare at it and feel better.
Another surprise: they told me the next time I'll see Baby will be at 20 weeks! (I'm guessing for the anatomy scan.) Is that normal?? That feels like so long from now. I'm considering getting *one* more peek in at one of those places where you pay for a scan...maybe around 12-13 weeks. Has anyone done that before? Are there any reasons not to?
I can't believe NIPT is available in just two weeks! I always imagined I'd have to wait longer to find out the gender. I'll just go in to see the phlebotomist. I'm curious how the results are shared. For those of you who did NIPT, did they just upload your results to your patient account? Or did they share them with you in person at your next appointment? Or something else?
Maybe I should move my questions to the STM+ thread?? I guess they're not really exclusive to STM's but it might be a more appropriate place for q's.
@faith_2911 asking appt questions on the appt thread is fine! Different doctors/insurance have different guidelines for how often they ultrasound. It’s totally normal not to have another until the A/S if you are doing NIPT. But you should have another appointment in a month or so where they will at least listen to the heartbeat. Sometimes you can convince your provider to do a quick peak at an appointment, too. If you want to do an elective scan, the only downside is the cost. Some people do them closer to 14-16 weeks to learn the sex early, but you will already know that.
I got my NIPT results in the mail. I think it depends on if they go to you also or just your doctor, and which company. But they shouldn’t make you wait for your next appointment.
@faith_2911 glad your first appt went well! I did the NIPT with my daughter and one of the assistants from the office called me with the results about a week later. They gave me the news about the genetic results and before telling me the baby’s sex they asked if I wanted to know. I know some offices post to the portal and some offer cute things like scratch off cards to reveal if it’s a boy or a girl. You can ask your office what they usually do and how long you should expect to wait for results.
@roo_baby@tara4910 Thank you so much for your help! I had no idea there were so many different ways they relay the information. I'll ask when I call to let them know I'm coming in for the blood work. It's good to know we will get to hear the heartbeat since we've only gotten to see it on the screen so far! In that case, I'll probably have DH come to the 12 week appointment. That's a good point about asking them if they'll do an extra one. Maybe they'll oblige me at 16 weeks. It would be nice to see Baby again at that point since I may not quite be feeling him/her yet.
It's very normal to not have another until 20 weeks. With my first, I had two - dating and anatomy. With my second, I had the anatomy and then two quick ones later on because she was flipping around so much they wanted to be sure of her positioning. This time, I will likely only have the anatomy scan unless I need position checks, which hopefully I don't! I just want him or her to get head down and stay head down.
@faith_2911 my scan at 12 weeks is the NT, so it goes in conjunction with NIPT. Eta Then is 20 weeks.
Guys, I'm going to sound like such a drive-by dummy here, but when I went to the chiro - who knew I was pregnant, knows Webster technique etc - did this thing where she rolled my spine out and cracked it three times and Lordy! But the third time I felt my organs all totally squish in there!
...and now I'm scared it might have hurt the baby. ☹️
I’m so annoyed. I had an OB appt scheduled for yesterday, booked a sitter for DD and drove all the way there, only to be told that their phones and computers were down so all appointments were canceled that day. Since computers were down, they couldn’t even reschedule me- I have to call today, and, of course, they’ll be swamped. I chose this practice because they offer both midwives and OB’s, but I’m out if they pull this crap again.
TW: PGAL My anxiety is ramping up like crazy, since this is right around the time of my MMC in July. I was really looking forward to the reassurance of hearing the baby’s heartbeat and now I’m in limbo until they can reschedule me. Plus, DH is out of town all next week for work and I’m terrified of getting bad news or having to make big decisions while he’s gone. 😞
FINALLY (at least that's what it felt like) had my first appt yesterday. Was a little concerned when the nurse said "well, you're so early om, we're just treating this as a 'missed menses' appt". Which I was confused by because according to my LMP calculation I was just shy of 11 weeks....after talking with my CNM I was put at ease (I was on about a 6 week cycle last I knew, so timelines were difficult to pinpoint on paper) who assured me we'd get all the normal lab work rolling and that I would just see her in 4 weeks for the full physical and additional US. So still got my very dating US yesterday which is what I was REALLY after and have next appt/US on Valentine's Day! Felt so good to finally see the little gummy bear and I feel SO relieved now that I've gotten a peek at them 😊
@babytimeagain I’m so sorry for that whole ordeal. I hope they get you in ASAP and you’re able to get some reassurance. Sending you hugs and peace until you get to hear that sweet sounding heartbeat. PGAL is so cruel.
@tyrion_ thank you so much. Their phones are STILL down, so hopefully they’ll be back up Monday so I can get something scheduled soon. I can’t believe it’s taking them so long to fix. Freaking ridiculous.
@babytimeagain How frustrating! I feel like there should have been SOME way but maybe we're all so digitized now that no, there really wasn't. Hope they're able to reschedule you soon. I'm sure it will be busy, but they may just need to go early/late for a bit until they can get all the non-routine appointments made up!
@BusinessWife Of course you're worried! Every little bump and scrape is extra worrisome right now. But try to remember that baby is still super tiny and extremely well padded/protected. It would take a lot to get to the little bug, and it sounds like you were in well-trained hands at a reputable spot. It'll be OK. And hopefully your back feels a ton better now?!
@babytimeagain oh no! What a disaster! I'm sure they felt awful about it, bc it would be the same at my work. Unless another location had computer access to somehow look at OUR appointments and pull up client's information for us, we would have no way to even know who to reach out to, or if we did know you were coming, we would need to have written down your number personally for some VERY specific reason, and we almost never so that. :/ I hope at least you were able to get something productive done with the babysitter time??? Ugh. Fx they get you back in Asap (((hugs)))
@emiliadkay thanks ❤️ yeah they said basically the same thing when I called the MW back for my Labs... So tiny, so very well protected. 🤷 She said of course call them if I experience any cramping or whatever, and of course I feel fine, so... Trying to take deep breaths and tell myself the baby is totally fine. And YES! My neck feels so much better, and back, and I go in again Wednesday. She just cautioned me not to burn through all my covered apts too early in the pregnancy, so I'll have to check again how many I get, bc it might only be like 12. :P
Good news! Labs all came back well! I made the mistake of doing the HCG rise calculator thing, and it's not that much, but I know it slows down as we go along. And it was in the 80,000s which is in range for 8/9 weeks, so I have to try not to overthink it. Progesterone was great and even TSH! Looks like I might not need synthroid this time! Weird, but the girl on the phone said the same thing, she took it for her first pregnancy, but not the second. #bodiesareweird
Had my first appointment yesterday, and it was basically just a welcome appointment where they confirmed that I'm pregnant. I waited an entire month for that!? I couldn't have peed in a cup for them four weeks ago? Lol. I thought I'd be getting an ultrasound, so the whole famn-damily was in-tow. I felt bad that I carted everyone along for essentially no reason, but oh, well.
Anyway, ultrasound set for Tuesday AM now. Very anxious to hear that heartbeat/get a glimpse of our little jellybean.
@lachnessmomster I hear you. My first appointment isn't for another week and 2 days...no idea if I'll hear or see anything since it's my first appointment...but I'm just wanting so bad to know everything is ok.
@lachnessmomster Same thing happened with my last baby. Lol! I brought my husband and he waited around and left work early. This time I called to see what they were doing so I could be sure not to waste his time.
@hadassah2020 I was pretty bummed. I was just basing it on my last experiences, and I could've sworn on that first appointment, I had an ultrasound. I even brought my best friend with me when I was expecting DD since DH was deployed at the time.
@riatortillaxo I was SO close to calling, and I should have. Lesson learned!
@lachnessmomster@riatortillaxo Eh, I think it's good for husbands to sometimes take off and sit through the BS appointments, too. The toll that a kid has on a parent's career is so uneven, not just in terms of maternity leave but after, and honestly it starts right now with these monthly OB appointments. It's good for employers to think "oh, my female employee is going to have a baby. they will need a little more flexibility for the next bit." (This is my current soapbox, I will try not to annoy you all to death with it over the next 8 months...)
But more importantly, I'm so bummed for you it'll be another few days until you get to see the little guy or gal! Tuesday come quick.
@lachnessmomster oh that is a bummer. The only reason I had one is because I asked, assuming there would be, and when she looked and it wasn't scheduled, she moved my appointment. :/ Lesson learned for me too, not to assume I know what to expect.
@emiliadkay but it's a little easier for the husbands to hide!!! Me before I walk out the door to DH, "do I look pregnant???" Lol He told me not to stick my belly out... OR suck it in. 🤦 I informed him I absolutely would be sucking it in as much as possible lol
@BusinessWife Eek... sounds like your back should feel amazing? I'm sure the chiropractor wouldn't do anything to jeopardize your little one, but how scary... maybe they could give a warning next time? Baby should be fine as they are so protected in there and still so tiny. My 11 lb dog walked across my pelvis and I flipped out and searched Dr Google... everywhere said our little babes are more resilient than we think and that many times ppl are worried about their babies/toddlers pushing on their tummies..... in that case there would be no siblings lol...
And it's so difficult to suck in anything now... my chin has already expanded with all these carbs so I feel like my face says I'm preggo 😭
@lachnessmomster What a bummer! So happy they are getting you back in quickly, but jeez... maybe they could have told you that to begin with? Can YH make it on Tuesday now? And I tend to agree that while his time was "wasted" at a BS appt, yours was too... Good luck Tuesday!

@emiliadkay Funny that you mention men and getting time off work, because DH has just informed me that he's all "booked up" for Tuesday, EVEN THOUGH I CONFIRMED WITH HIM THAT TUESDAY WAS FINE. So, now my choices are to wrangle both kids by myself and hope a kind nurse will hold DD while the actual ultrasound takes place or call and reschedule. Sounds like it's going to be the latter.
You make an excellent point, though! The main reason I felt bad is that I know how pissed I get when I'm stuck for hours at some inconvenient place trying to entertain small children. It's not a party, but you're right - it isn't always my responsibility to juggle children while attempting to do literally anything. I just know he would've much preferred to be home with the kiddos where snacks and toys were readily available, and I get that.
@BusinessWife Exactly! You'd think the third time around, I'd know what to expect and when. Keeps me on my toes, I guess!
@ziggymama06 Yeah, once I get it rescheduled to another day that he can split from work, he should be able to make it. Disappointed to have it pushed back again, but I'm sure time will fly by, and it'll give me something to look forward to.
Also, random thought - I mentioned my pelvic floor/prolapse concerns, and the midwives offered me a referral to a pelvic floor physical therapy class. I was like, "That sounds great! When are the classes?" And they're in the middle of the week during a workday. Like, how do people with kids and jobs manage to break away in the middle of a work week for these classes? It's definitely something I was interested in, but not realistic with my husband's schedule and not having any childcare options besides me, myself, and I when DH is unavailable. That's one of the many pitfalls of living far away from family and trusting no one. Lol. There's no one to hand the kiddos off to for any reason, even if just to sneak away for a bit. (I'm a weirdo and have only ever left our kids with either DH's or my parents.)
@emiliadkay That is a valid point, but for my husband he is self employed so he has the flexibility but also has deadlines to meet, so I tend to prefer that he get his jobs done rather than miss a large chunk of his day since his paychecks come as he completes parts of a job. In most cases though he at least has to meet me there and take our son because his daycare is so close to my work it makes the most sense for me to get him and have my husband meet me and get him home. That is all the participation that I need at this point. Haha For a set of first time parents it might be easier for mom to handle all the appointments solo, but with other little ones, dad participation is often a requirement it seems like. At least in my experience this far.
ETA: employers really should accept that men need flexibility too for appointments. It's a shame that they don't since many men want to attend all those appointments and be especially involved like that.
I met with a genetics counselor today and we had our nt scan done. We did the nips (I think?) as opposed to the NIPT based on insurance coverage. If we fail the nips, my insurance covers the NIPT. I also had a carrier screening blood draw for CF and AMS based on family history.
Everything looked great on Nt scan. Both NT and NB measurements were within norms. Heart beat was 155 and baby measured at 12+4. I was 12+1 today so perfect. We saw 2 hands and 2 feet and there’s a bladder which she said means functioning kidneys. (Well at least one which is still good!) My daughter has a kidney issue so I’ve been worried about a second so hearing that things are good for this point is some reassurance.

@sarah0985 So glad to hear you had a great appointment filled with lots of reassurance!
I just called to reschedule my ultrasound that was supposed to be this morning, and they can't get me in until next Tuesday now. I'll be 11 weeks by then, so I'm excited that there will be more to see, but bummed to wait another week. Hopefully it zooms by!
My first appt with the doctor was supposed to be Tuesday and they called me a few hours before needing to reschedule bc the dr had some type of an emergency. So annoying. I understand things happen but I booked it weeks ago. Thankfully they were able to squeeze me into the last appt today and clarify that the dr will be doing a dating us today... I cannot wait to see little baby today!! Yayyyyyy

Had my NT scan today and everything looked great. Baby is measuring 12w5d (I’m 11w6d today) and was super wiggly. They’re keeping my due date the same since my LMP lined up closely with my 8 week scan.
It was a little sense of relief I really needed. I’m sure my anxiety will continue to lurk around but I am celebrating today.
Oof. Just missed a call from my doctor with my NIPT results. I knew it was coming and my phone was right next to me, so not sure how I missed it. In her voicemail she said she'd be unreachable for the next hour, at which point I'll be on a cross country flight 😭 I'm now driving myself crazy bc while she sounded upbeat in the message she didn't say that everything looked good (maybe she wouldn't leave that kind of info in a VM even if it was good?). Gosh, this is going to be a long flight. Fingers crossed we connect later today when I land.
@rivercitynik that is the worst! I hate it when that happens. I think unless you sign a form that says they can leave messages like that on a voicemail, I don’t think they can. Hopefully you can sleep on the flight to help time pass. Have a safe flight!!

thanks for all good vibes! she called again 10 min. before takeoff and I took the call from the plane. No chromosomal issues and negative on everything they test for in the carrier panel. Since I'm not with my partner she is going to drop the sex results in the patient portal and then I'll FaceTime him when I land so we can find out together. Definitely cried some happy tears!
I had my appointment today. We are having a boy and he is healthy. It was hard to get a good picture this time because he was active. I think he's going to be just my his big sister, moving nonstop in the womb and out! We even schedule the anatomy scan for March 19 as well.
I cannot wait to tell my daughter she's going to be a big sister. Hopefully she understands what we are telling her.

@lachnessmomster So frustrating re: the timing of the pelvic floor PT class. I wonder that all the time -- like, these magical women the class is designed for, with all the free time in the world at 2pm on a Wednesday, can't possibly exist - right? But then when I occasionally take a day off and go get my nails done THERE THEY ARE. In droves. I don't understand.
Fwiw, I went to a pelvic floor therapist after DS and was basically told to do kegels and hip raises. That's it. I do think a regular class or appointment would help with motivation to actually do them, but I think you could make a lot of progress on your own time if you're a more disciplined person than I
Lots of drama with my OB practice. Their phones and computers (including patient records and scheduling system) have been out the past week. Yes, a whole freaking week. So my appointment last Thursday was canceled due to this and they still didn’t have me rescheduled. I finally got through to them today and was assertive and demanded an appt, so I’ll get to go in tomorrow. I‘m worried I might have an infection, so I want to get that checked out. My OB said at this appt they’ll try to find the heartbeat on Doppler (and, if they can’t, give me a quick reassurance ultrasound), so I’m hoping that’ll still happen. My last ultrasound was at seven weeks and my NT scan isn’t until 12 weeks, so that makes me nervous (prior MMC at 9 weeks). Dealing with this practice has been pretty awful, so I’m interviewing another one next week. I’ve heard amazing things (it’s a small CN-midwife group that delivers in a hospital), so fingers crossed.
