January Appointments

Re: January Appointments

  • @emiliadkay For my first pregnancy, my husband came to every appointment (maybe he skipped a few when I was going every 1-2 weeks at the end). It helped that we both work from home, so it was easy to coordinate.  This pregnancy, he said he didn’t care if he went to the first appointment (I know there will be an ultrasound). I was surprised! 😂 I asked him to come anyway in case it wasn’t good news. But I suspect he’ll only come to this and the anatomy scan.

  • @kimbo262 I'm glad he's going with you to this first appointment <3 As I always told MH, I *hope* this appointment turns out to be a waste of time for you. That is the most hoped for outcome!

@ziggymama06 I'm so glad everything went so well! Glad you got to see that sweet little heartbeat. But oof, 13 vials -- you definitely earned that US.

@wednesdaygirl1019 I love that YH came prepared with all his questions :)
  • I go for my second appt with second US and initial blood work on January 16. I will be 10 weeks.
My doc does an initial confirmation of pregnancy appt at 7-8 weeks, then does the first OB/second appt at 10 weeks with initial blood work. My doc has an US machine in the office buts it's only used the first few visits until they can get a fetal doppler to pick up the heartbeat. Then the A/S scan is done at the hospital.
DH couldn't get much time off with DS so he only came to the A/S scan. This time he came to the initial appt and I told him to come for the A/S scan but he isnt required at any other appts.
  • Okay ladies, my doctor says not too worry about this, but I can’t help it! At my 7 week ultrasound me RE found a 4cm cyst on my left ovary and said it’s probably where I ovulated from and it will go away on its own most likely. Well I was released to my OB, and I had another ultrasound at 10 weeks and the cyst grew to 5.28cm now. I thought I would see it shrink towards 10 weeks or so, not grow. Anyone have this happen to them in their precious pregnancies??? Everywhere online says a cyst is considered large if it’s 5cm or more, and large cysts can cause ovarian tortion (ovary flips and cuts of blood supply to the ovary).
  • @jdl330 is your OB also a practicing gyn or does she only see pregnant women? If not, I would see a gyn. A large cyst can be dangerous for you (not sure about baby. I’m not a medical professional at all, but if it were me I would want it removed laparoscopically.
  • @roo_baby he’s both! The doctors aren’t concerned right now and it’s a sit and wait kind of situation, I just wanted to know if others had cysts similar in size, and what happened in those situations. From what I’m reading, they won’t talk about removal (if needed) until 2nd trimester because if it is the corpus luteal cyst then the baby actually is getting things it needs like progesterone from it until the placenta completely takes over. I just want to be excited, not concerned!

  • What a wonderful update, @wildrainbow
  • @jdl330 at my u/s the tech said I had, and I quote “a huge cyst”. She said they actually like to see cysts in the beginning of pregnancy because they are helpful. I also have PCOS so I’m not sure if that contributes to it. She basically said it’s gonna “suck when it pops”. She didn’t say how big it was but I go back next Wednesday to check in “a large collection of blood” she saw in my uterus. I’m assuming the blood is an SCH?  I had an SCH with DS as well. But now I’m going to ask about the cyst again.
  • @moguippy it sounds like she thinks they always pop? I thought that sometimes they do, but sometimes they shrink and just go away. Ugh, I’m scared of it popping because I know I’ll just be freaked out about if something is wrong. I go back for the first trimester screening next Thursday, so I’ll ask her more about it then. Let me know if you find out anything more too!
  • @moguippy I agree with what @radiohd18 said about that ultrasound tech! Super unprofessional! I have to imagine she could have presented it with a little more tact. I hope your next appointment gives you some better insight!
  • Hi ladies just wanted to get some opinions. Im 7w 2d and my doctor did a blood draw Monday because of some brown discharge. On Monday HCG was 39400 and Wednesday only up 25% to 50 000. The dr was happy with this and said the number doesn't double as much this far along but I really thought it was supposed to double? How do those numbers sound to others?
  • @radiohd18 and @riatortillaxo she definitely isn’t my favorite tech. There are two that are usually there and I like the other one better. I’m hoping the other one is still there now that I think of it. This was my first time back at the MFM dr in over a year and a half.

@meagangrhm I’ve heard that levels only double in the very beginning and then don’t after awhile. I would have to google it but if your dr says it’s fine then it probably is. 50k is in the range for 7-8 weeks
  • Important question. I have my 9 week appt a little later today (already had my first dating us 3 weeks ago). Which form of US will they use? I need to know if I should shave my legs 🤣
  • Are you sure you'll have an ultrasound? can you ask or specify which you'd like? I've never had an internal ultrasound, including the dating ultrasound.
  • @roo_baby LOL. I don't have an answer -- last pregnancy my first US at ~6 weeks was internal but I didn't have another one until the NIPT -- but I so love your reason for asking this question.
  • @roo_baby 😂😂😂 I had an external ultrasound yesterday (8w 2 days). I think they will go the least invasive and you can skip the leg shaving.

  • @roo_baby At my 9 week, they did an external US, but the MW also took a swab during the appointment so I was glad I shaved my legs 😂
  • ok thanks everyone! I shaved just in case. And yes, definitely will have an us. Since my first one was so early they like to do another one a few weeks later, then after this I will go back to a monthly schedule. Will report back on where they stick it.
  • I had my nurses appointment which was kind of a waste of time if I’m being honest. But my doctor had me do my blood work a few days earlier. So I’m thankful that I did have a nurses appointment yesterday because I redid the blood work before we leave for our trip. And apparently it takes about ten days to get the results back. We also set up all of my appointments through March, that’s the furtherest they could book out to. So that’s pretty exciting. I just need to call the other location to schedule my A/S.

  • @blackgirlmagic I'm doing the NIPT test later this week, believe I'm just seeing a nurse and not my provider (NP). Is the test just a simple blood draw? Did they do anything else to check on the baby? After have two ultrasounds in a two week period (last one was 1/2) I now feel like I have so long to wait before I get to see that everything is moving along as it should.
  • @Riverchick420 it is just a simple blood draw. I had my weight, blood pressure, and temp taken and that was it. Then it was just a conversation between the nurse and i. I’ve only seen the baby once at 9 weeks. I go back at 12 weeks, I believe, to do the Nt scab and then I don’t think I’ll see the baby again until the a/s.

  • @jdl330 I had a 8 cm cyst with DD, burst at the beginning of the 2nd trimester, and a 6.5 cm cyst with this pregnancy. When the burst it hurts bad. But dont stress, its very common and if it does cause extreme pain go to emerg asap.
