@emiliadkay For my first pregnancy, my husband came to every appointment (maybe he skipped a few when I was going every 1-2 weeks at the end). It helped that we both work from home, so it was easy to coordinate. This pregnancy, he said he didn’t care if he went to the first appointment (I know there will be an ultrasound). I was surprised! 😂 I asked him to come anyway in case it wasn’t good news. But I suspect he’ll only come to this and the anatomy scan.
I finally had my first appointment today! I knew that I wasn't going to get an ultrasound this visit, but the midwife also said that I was too early along to hear the heartbeat with the doppler I do have an ultrasound scheduled for three weeks from now when I'll be 12 weeks, so I do have that to look forward to (along with lots of bloodwork, which I am not looking forward to). My husband came with me and I felt kinda bad that we didn't get to hear/see anything and he basically came all the way out for nothing, but I think he liked asking the midwife all of his questions. He says he wants to come to the next one.
@wednesdaygirl1019 That's great you were able to sit with the midwife and ask all of your questions. I'm sorry you didn't get to see your little one today.
My appointment this morning was almost the opposite - I only met with the techs, one who did the ultrasound, and one who drew my bloodwork. It was too early to hear baby's heartbeat but hubs and I could see it flickering on the screen which was wonderful. Measuring is perfect and on target. Then they drew 13 vials of blood from me!!! They are doing genetic testing for me and how my body is reacting to the baby. I would have liked to meet with the midwife to discuss some questions and next steps as I'm a FTM. Going back two weeks from tomorrow to meet with the doctor to discuss my results. I feel relieved but still so nervous.
Me: 33 DH: 36 Dating 4/2008 Married 6/2016 TTC #1 9/2019 BFP 12/13/2019! EDD 8/27/2020 Baby Girl
@kimbo262 I'm glad he's going with you to this first appointment As I always told MH, I *hope* this appointment turns out to be a waste of time for you. That is the most hoped for outcome!
@ziggymama06 I'm so glad everything went so well! Glad you got to see that sweet little heartbeat. But oof, 13 vials -- you definitely earned that US.
I go for my second appt with second US and initial blood work on January 16. I will be 10 weeks. My doc does an initial confirmation of pregnancy appt at 7-8 weeks, then does the first OB/second appt at 10 weeks with initial blood work. My doc has an US machine in the office buts it's only used the first few visits until they can get a fetal doppler to pick up the heartbeat. Then the A/S scan is done at the hospital. DH couldn't get much time off with DS so he only came to the A/S scan. This time he came to the initial appt and I told him to come for the A/S scan but he isnt required at any other appts.
Okay ladies, my doctor says not too worry about this, but I can’t help it! At my 7 week ultrasound me RE found a 4cm cyst on my left ovary and said it’s probably where I ovulated from and it will go away on its own most likely. Well I was released to my OB, and I had another ultrasound at 10 weeks and the cyst grew to 5.28cm now. I thought I would see it shrink towards 10 weeks or so, not grow. Anyone have this happen to them in their precious pregnancies??? Everywhere online says a cyst is considered large if it’s 5cm or more, and large cysts can cause ovarian tortion (ovary flips and cuts of blood supply to the ovary).
@jdl330 is your OB also a practicing gyn or does she only see pregnant women? If not, I would see a gyn. A large cyst can be dangerous for you (not sure about baby. I’m not a medical professional at all, but if it were me I would want it removed laparoscopically.
@roo_baby he’s both! The doctors aren’t concerned right now and it’s a sit and wait kind of situation, I just wanted to know if others had cysts similar in size, and what happened in those situations. From what I’m reading, they won’t talk about removal (if needed) until 2nd trimester because if it is the corpus luteal cyst then the baby actually is getting things it needs like progesterone from it until the placenta completely takes over. I just want to be excited, not concerned!
I officially graduated from the RE / morning monitoring. We saw the heartbeat right away, and heard it nice and steady at 157. Measuring 7 + 3, (at 7 and 5), so perfectly within range. There's a tiny person in there!!!
Next appointment with the MW is in a week, 1/15. I'll be trying a new practice this time that's a farther drive, but hopefully it will be worth it.
Had my first US today. Baby's measuring 1 day ahead at 9 weeks. Heartbeat is 186. They didn't let hubby in until the full exam was done, but I was okay. The tech was super nice. So happy!
Had my second appt today with u/s. Everything looked perfect! Baby looked great and had a hb of 163! I go back in 3 weeks for another u/s and NIPT blood work.
@jdl330 at my u/s the tech said I had, and I quote “a huge cyst”. She said they actually like to see cysts in the beginning of pregnancy because they are helpful. I also have PCOS so I’m not sure if that contributes to it. She basically said it’s gonna “suck when it pops”. She didn’t say how big it was but I go back next Wednesday to check in “a large collection of blood” she saw in my uterus. I’m assuming the blood is an SCH? I had an SCH with DS as well. But now I’m going to ask about the cyst again.
@moguippy it sounds like she thinks they always pop? I thought that sometimes they do, but sometimes they shrink and just go away. Ugh, I’m scared of it popping because I know I’ll just be freaked out about if something is wrong. I go back for the first trimester screening next Thursday, so I’ll ask her more about it then. Let me know if you find out anything more too!
@moguippy I'm pretty sure if I heard the tech say "it's gonna suck when it pops" I would've been annoyed. That doesn't sound super professional and u/s tech's are not doctors. Not cool.
AFM, I had a successful u/s this morning and measured 7w1d, which is also my dating based on my LMP, so I am still due 8/26. DH came with me and while he was happy when we saw the heartbeat, he was pretty shaken up after the appointment was over. He said he's scared because of our history; this u/s appointment reminds him of the one we had last time right before everything went south. As much as it hurts to see him so sad, I am relieved that he's with me on this and I am not alone.
I finally had my first appointment today! Measuring 8+4 which seems right for ovulation and ahead for LMP. Baby actually looks a little bit like a baby. So cute! I go back in 2 weeks for NIPT and another U/S. 😊😊
@moguippy I agree with what @radiohd18 said about that ultrasound tech! Super unprofessional! I have to imagine she could have presented it with a little more tact. I hope your next appointment gives you some better insight!
Hi ladies just wanted to get some opinions. Im 7w 2d and my doctor did a blood draw Monday because of some brown discharge. On Monday HCG was 39400 and Wednesday only up 25% to 50 000. The dr was happy with this and said the number doesn't double as much this far along but I really thought it was supposed to double? How do those numbers sound to others?
@radiohd18 and @riatortillaxo she definitely isn’t my favorite tech. There are two that are usually there and I like the other one better. I’m hoping the other one is still there now that I think of it. This was my first time back at the MFM dr in over a year and a half.
@meagangrhm I’ve heard that levels only double in the very beginning and then don’t after awhile. I would have to google it but if your dr says it’s fine then it probably is. 50k is in the range for 7-8 weeks
Important question. I have my 9 week appt a little later today (already had my first dating us 3 weeks ago). Which form of US will they use? I need to know if I should shave my legs 🤣
Are you sure you'll have an ultrasound? can you ask or specify which you'd like? I've never had an internal ultrasound, including the dating ultrasound.
@roo_baby LOL. I don't have an answer -- last pregnancy my first US at ~6 weeks was internal but I didn't have another one until the NIPT -- but I so love your reason for asking this question.
ok thanks everyone! I shaved just in case. And yes, definitely will have an us. Since my first one was so early they like to do another one a few weeks later, then after this I will go back to a monthly schedule. Will report back on where they stick it.
Hi! I will have my 2nd appointment on 01/20. My first appointment was 12/23 and everything went very well. I was about 7 wks along.
This appointment is for blood testing (genetic screening) which I am going to respectfully decline. I’m 37 yrs old but I’ve heard of so many false positives that it would just make me more anxious. This is my 3rd pregnancy and declined genetic screening for the other pregnancies as well.
I look forward to hearing the baby’s heart beat, getting measurements and just checking in.
I had my nurses appointment which was kind of a waste of time if I’m being honest. But my doctor had me do my blood work a few days earlier. So I’m thankful that I did have a nurses appointment yesterday because I redid the blood work before we leave for our trip. And apparently it takes about ten days to get the results back. We also set up all of my appointments through March, that’s the furtherest they could book out to. So that’s pretty exciting. I just need to call the other location to schedule my A/S.

@blackgirlmagic I'm doing the NIPT test later this week, believe I'm just seeing a nurse and not my provider (NP). Is the test just a simple blood draw? Did they do anything else to check on the baby? After have two ultrasounds in a two week period (last one was 1/2) I now feel like I have so long to wait before I get to see that everything is moving along as it should.
@Riverchick420 it is just a simple blood draw. I had my weight, blood pressure, and temp taken and that was it. Then it was just a conversation between the nurse and i. I’ve only seen the baby once at 9 weeks. I go back at 12 weeks, I believe, to do the Nt scab and then I don’t think I’ll see the baby again until the a/s.

First appointment was this morning! SO CRAZY to see that little blob and little heartbeat... I knew there was supposed to be a baby in there, but it's just never real until it's real
Baby measured 1-2 days ahead, which is right where things should be based on expected O date, but we kept the original August 26 EDD based on LMP. Heartbeat of 155. Excited to start thinking about things like sharing the news with family.
Graduated yesterday from our reproductive endocrinologist. Excited but a little nervous to leave them. After a subchorionic hemorrhage scare, a week later the twins are both growing and looking great on ultrasound. We have our first OB appt Thursday! Starting to feel (a little) more real. :-)
I had my second and final Ultrasound at my RE yesterday! Everything is still looking great and we have graduated from their care (It'll probably be my last time there ever as we're not planning on using the remaining embryos we have). I have my first OB appointment in two weeks on the 30th!

Update: Today's appointment went great! First MW visit to my new practice, and so far so good. I was there a bit longer than I expected, but nbd.
I'm glad billing called and I had a chance to speak with her last night, because I found out I wasn't scheduled for an us. So she bumped me up to 8AM and we did that, too. (8 week apts with the physician maybe would, but the MW normally they don't.) Next apt at 10 weeks is just with phlebotomy for the nipt draw, and then a scan at 12 weeks, and anatomy scan + fetal echo at 20/22 weeks. She mentioned offering growth scans starting at 36 weeks, but we can decide on all that later. I will hopefully see all 7 midwives between now and delivery, as well as be seen by the doctor as we get closer to be cleared for VBAC. I feel like I have a good handle on the plan now, and I even booked the rest of my apts through 24 weeks! Next is just to call back the MFM to make sure they got the request faxed over, so I can book those scans. It's a relief things are looking good, and the rest I have to do for a while is just show up!

@jdl330 I had a 8 cm cyst with DD, burst at the beginning of the 2nd trimester, and a 6.5 cm cyst with this pregnancy. When the burst it hurts bad. But dont stress, its very common and if it does cause extreme pain go to emerg asap.
