Ladies, I'm in need of some advice. (TW mentions loss) Tomorrow I'm hanging out with my sister and I'm going to tell her about the baby. She and her husband have a beautiful daughter but it was a hard road to get there. She also had a loss shortly before I got my bfp. We've waited to tell family until after Christmas to avoid hurt feelings. It'll just be the two of us and our two little ones; I didn't want to tell her in a big group. We're close and I know she'll be excited for us but since we were ntnp, I know it might be hard to hear. I know the words will come but I'm having trouble thinking of how I want to say it. I guess I don't know what I'm looking for here...
Sorry, I know this is a difficult topic because some of have had a rough trip to parenthood. I hope you all understand.
@nursejenn5 it’s not the impact that bothers me! Running regularly actually helped my knees so much! It’s the bending that causes pain. So the modifications tend to not help me much. I wish I knew what exactly was wrong with them
@MrsB915 can you just tell her and not mention that you were NTNP? It’ll sting no matter what, but if you feel like that info will impact her more, just don’t tell her that. Hopefully she’s not a glutton for punishment and will leave it at just knowing you’re KU vs asking if you were trying.
@MrsB915 agreed with @blaf322 on the wording! Maybe acknowledge the fact she had a loss and you know it might be hard for her to hear. It’s good that you’re doing it 1x1 though, while I was going through IF I appreciated that so much more than being blindsided in a group setting. Good luck, I’m sure it’s not an easy conversation to approach!
look what I got! I think it's so cute for an early July little boy! The reviews say it's soft, so hopefully I like it as much as our Tula swaddle blankets. They're not quite as big, but that'll be good for use in the very beginning (where the Tula blanket is a little big for the early days).
ETA- and maybe we can use it for his NB photo shoot too
@bluguitarhannah Milkmaid Goods... and they have lots of mommy and me matching stuff. Which, I get, isn't everyone's jam. But they have some precious matching robe/swaddle sets that I think are especially cute for mamas and baby girls
@zande2016 I was supposed to participate in a no spend January that some in my other BMB are doing... but I've kinda shit the bed on that between this, baby furniture and a million other things lol
@blaf322 I swore I wouldn't spend any money on work lunches or takeout this month and I am already $120 past that lol. We are having our 1st girl and I am finding it so hard not to start buying all the cute girly things but trying so hard to hold off...
@blaf322 I've seen Milkmaid before super cute. I might not always be a matchy matchy person but I anticipate giving birth exactly once. My wife keeps trying to burst my cute girl things bubble. She is dead set that no child of hers will wear a bow until she can ask for it. Eye roll
@zande2016 I've been on phase one of cut our budget to factor in what will happen when spouse retires to care for baby and adding in baby costs. I'm using those savings to pay for baby things that need to be acquired or saved for until I see what happens at my shower. And, we got $600 or so in Amazon cards so I'm trying to shop there first and make it seem free. In general, my credit card should be hidden from me. I can shop like nobody's business.
@bluguitarhannah definitely make an Amazon registry then! You will get a completion discount you can use on whatever is left over and you could use your GC for that stuff. For baby 2 we made a secret Amazon registry just to get the discount since we weren't having a shower or anything. Re bows, I was SO anti-bows on babies before, just not my style, but now that I am having a girl I suddenly want to buy bows. what is happening to me lol
@zande2016 I'm blaming the extra estrogen personally on anything that I previously thought was absurd and I'm now highly interested in buying or decorating with. Have poked around on Amazon for the registry. I have enjoyed our product spotlights and the baby product reviews out there b/c there's just so much crap to consider.
Whaaaat is wrong with all the anti-bow people?! DD allllways had SOMETHING on her head. Up until maybe 2.5 or just before 3. Now, I'm just trying to get out the damn door each morning with my sanity in tact
- this is a small shop started by a girl from DD's BMB. She had a baby a week ago so they're closed, but keep these bows in mind. They're super good quality and all are hand sewn by her. If you're wanting to see what types of bows she typically has, you can check her out on IG too.... it's linked on the site https://ellieandcate.com/
Not a great photo...they make smaller knot bows that are better for really little babies and also have headbands (and headband to clip conversions)... but this is the typical look of Baby Ellie's bows
@blaf322 I didn’t need to know Milkmaid existed. We live in Minnesota so clearly I need some Paul Bunyan-esque lumberjack matching duds with my little fella. 😂
If i have a girl. bring. on. the. bows. (but nothing crazy large and overwhelming. my 9 mo niece is always sporting a cute bow or headband and its the best thing ever.
@rachelredhead I saw that too! Super cute!! I didn't get a matching robe b/c robes just aren't my jam. I'm pretty sure I'm going to expose something in them. And I definitely look like a whale b/c of my thick hips lol
they have lots of different size bows so there are some for babies as well as toddlers and even little bow ties for little boys! so cute.

🙋🏻♀️ Anti-bow. I remember people gave us bows after DD was born (we were team green) but she had so much hair and I just did not know what to do with them lol. I love a bow on a bald baby but I just never couldn’t get them to look right on mine, granted I didn’t try very hard 😝
I’m Team Bow lol. Just keep them simple and a small/reasonable size and I’m in. I’m fairly certain we’ll be having another boy, but if I have a girl one day or I’m wrong, she’s getting all the bows!
Not pregnancy related at all, but how did I not know that Chris Evans was Johnny Storm (Human Torch from Fantastic 4) before he played Captain America?
I did some (small) bows on DD as a baby and do every once in awhile now too, but they mostly didn't stay on her head then and they definitely don't now so I don't usually bother.
Just going to leave this here though...
ETA: Sorry for the giant photo!! Guess I should've used a spoiler.
@nursejenn5 one of our RN's did that for DD and I looooved it! She did something like cut a slit in the hospital hat and then shove another one through it? I'm not totally sure how, but that's what it looked like. It was precious.
@blaf322 yes! That’s basically what we do. There is also a way to make a teddy bear hat for boys. So it has little ears. But it’s harder and not done very much haha. But so cute
Tuning in late to convo to say #TeamBow but also I love little ladies in bandanas, a friend of mine matches her daughters bandanas constantly and it's both subtle and adorable.
I love bows but our oldest stopped wanting to wear them. My youngest however, wanted to wear her huge sequence dance costume bow the other day and always picks the biggest sparkliest ones she can find lol I love it!
My random is I can’t stop eating! I seriously never feel full now. I did lose weight the past 11 weeks (until now) due to so many aversions and stomach bug but now I feel like I can’t get enough.
Yes so many team bow people!! I was so strongly anti-bow, found out I was having a girl, a friend got me a bow subscription, and now I am obsessed. DD rocked a bow whenever we were out, and now I use clip on bows in her whale spout. I love them, and have so many I am embarrassed to admit how many I have.
@meanjellybean you are not alone! I am anti bow for the most part but my hormonal pregnant brain that’s thrilled to finally be getting my girl is fantasizing about maybe 1-2 small bows. Like that bow hat they do in the hospital. Beyond that I won’t be dressing her in many bows. I was texting with a friend about it and she is very strongly anti bow, her 6 month old has never worn a single bow. It’s not everyone’s style!
Pretty much missed all of yesterday eep. @meanjellybean I'm with you! I didn't realize how prevalent giant bows and the constant wearing of them was until I lived in Tennessee for a while. I think I'd be mocked off social media if I did anything like that up here in new England! They're cute sometimes and if I have a girl (the green) I'm sure I'll have some and use them occasionally but usually I see @stlbuckeye132 's pic lol
(Caveat- no judgment on people who do bows. Do you. Just not my style)

I don't know what your bow style will be, but let me make these recs:
- these are cheap and nice to have when they're super little because you'll be able to match anything. I also always have cheapy clip in bows like this (off of Amazon also) because, again, easy for matching when you don't have just the right nicer bow https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Girl-Newborn-Girls-Headbands/dp/B00PADBT1Q/ref=sr_1_42?dchild=1&keywords=infant+headband+with+flower&qid=1578596140&sr=8-42

just kidding lol... I totally don't care if your kid doesn't wear bows

I have been slacking today and haven’t even been to the UO thread, which is a shame because I clearly belong there!
Come on, people! I cant be alone here!!
