Maternity Clothes: Second Trimester

Re: Maternity Clothes: Second Trimester

  • Maternity pants that fit me last week are now getting to be too small. I was forced to wear a maternity dress today and it's raining, so I'm bitter. But - omg how did I not know how comfortable maternity dresses were?! This one is from Old Navy and wasn't even expensive. I might need a few more.

  • @pirateduck are you short btw? I’m 5’2 and that’s how allllll the full panel pants fit now and last pregnancy! And then if you walk they sag. It’s terribly uncomfortable. No solutions here, just solidarity. :(
  • @shamrocandroll the winning pants of the 5 pairs I ordered online are "longs" so I totally get it.  I wish I could say maternity shirts are long enough to cover if my pants are slipping, but unfortunately I also have a long torso so even with maternity shirts, I've found some of them I'm still constantly pulling down my shirt in the back (there's extra fabric in the belly but they aren't any longer in back) and pulling up my pants!  It's all so hit or miss.  Everyone's bodies are sooooo different both in and out of pregnancy.
  • @ruby696 I love maternity dresses. I have a few from target that I bought with DS2 and I’ve held on to them for so long because they’re that freaking awesome (unashamedly wore one not pregnant quite a bit).
  • I finally broke down and got some maternity clothes. After my AS my mom was with me and said I need to start looking. So we went to Macy’s and they had a small maternity section mostly Motherhood Maternity and Jessica Simpson actually. I’m not loving the work pants. All that stretchy material and rayon ugh. I have really nice work pants I’m going to miss this winter.

Tried on some Jessica Simpson jeans which were ok. I’m not loving the full belly coverage thing. I’m 4’11” so it’s really hard finding clothes as it is now add this long belly panel and it just doesn’t make me feel good about myself. Maybe side panels will be better?

I also cannot find a warm winter coat to save my life. I have a long down coat with a hood perfect for NY winters. All the coats I see are flimsy and polyester filled not warm at all. I went to Pea in the Pod and the girl straight up told me she wouldn’t sell me the 1 coat they had left because it wasn’t warm at all. I appreciated her honesty.
  • @babyfoxden10 if you need something warm you’ll probably have to buy a regular coat from a legit brand and just size up, unfortunately.

Ugh I came here to bitch about how my regular clothes don’t fit but maternity clothes are too big.

  • @babyfoxden10 have you checked Old Navy? That is where I got mine for NY winters. Also are you getting this weird snow storm?
  • @babyfoxden10 I second old Navy for the coat. I got their long maternity puffer coat and it's been super warm. I got it huge too so I can wear thicker sweaters underneath if I need another layer.
  • @babyfoxden10 I have yet to find a pair of full panel pants that fits right and feels comfortable, however I have a few pairs of side panel/inset panel pants that I love.  They are comfortable and seem to fit/feel/look like regular non-maternity pants.  I have more than one brand so I’m thinking maybe I’m just a side panel kind of person.  I like the skinny pants from Gap for work, they have stretch in the leg material, but aren’t leggings and have a clasp closure, zipper fly, and little slit pockets like regular slacks.  I think I got them 50% off and they are on sale again.  I did size up one size since they are skinny cut and Ive gained some weight in my thighs.

  • @catem07 this is my current problem as well. I have found one pair of maternity pants that fit well but everything else is too big, and I don't want to size down if I'm just going to get bigger.  My regular clothes are too tight to be comfortable. Guess I'll just size up in regular clothes for a bit longer  :(

  • I took my maternity clothes tote out of the closet last weekend. Still haven't opened it yet. Started this pregnancy 20 lbs lighter than the last so my clothes are fitting longer than last time. I'm also afraid my 9 month pregnant belly stretched out all my pants and they'll slowly fall down without having a huge belly yet. My nonmaternity jeans still fit, and thankfully our principal said as a Christmas present we can wear jeans until break.
  • Thanks for the input I’ll definitely look into Old Navy!

@mamaj1220 I’m down state so luckily we haven’t had too much snow accumulation yet mostly flurries and a few freezing cold days, but I’m sure it’s coming ❄️

@pirateduck that’s what I’ve been searching for! I feel like being so petite those full coverage pants aren’t comfortable because they go all the way up to my bra and curl down during the day.
  • @babyfoxden10 I'm also short (5'1") and the full panel pants come up to my bra. I've been wearing the low panel jeans from old Navy and they're very comfy, though they do fall a lot (maybe I should have gone with a size smaller). The short are the perfect length but it was hard to find them so I have one in short and one in regular that I just let bunch up at the ankles.
  • Any moms wear scrubs to work? My favorite yoga pant scrubs are starting to get tight and I need to invest in maternity scrubs, but not sure what brands are the best. I briefly considered sizing up in my fave ones but I worry I might outgrow the next size up before baby is born, then I’d end up needing maternity scrubs anyway.
  • @sunshinesea22 I don't currently wear scrubs but I did for my last pregnancy. I would say you definitely need maternity scrub pants even if you are able to get away with sizing up in your top. I had a hard time finding them because I needed tall maternity in navy... I think I ended getting med couture or something and they were just ok. But I saw that Figs recently started carrying maternity and I've heard thing about Grey's anatomy.
  • Finally busted out the maternity leggings and don't know why I waited so long. So much more comfortable than the elastic hitting my stomach tightly in the regular ones.
  • @sunshinesea22 I wear scrubs and had to start wearing maternity scrub pants (shirts are still ok for now). I've bought both med couture and Cherokee on Amazon. Med couture is super comfy and I like their maternity tops better cause it's not the typical tunic looking ones. If you have Amazon prime I would order a few different ones, try them and return the ones you don't like.
Have also heard good things about Figs but have never tried them myself
  • @babyfoxden10 @lisush I am also a short person who hates full panel maternity pants, but my side panel ones are still too big. Right now in this awkward in-between stage I'm mostly living in dresses with tights or leggings, and the one pair of LuLaRoe jeans I have. They have an elastic waistband, which is AWESOME, but the ones I have are distressed, so they are too casual for work. :(

I guess I'm a minority. I am a short person who loves the full panel! I have some demi panels and they always make my belly hurt. They aren't as bad once my bump is huge, but still not my favorite.

  • @m6agua Im short (4'11") and like the full panels too! I don't know, I just find them more comfy cause there is nothing pressing on my belly!
  • I’m carrying low this pregnancy, so under the belly are extremely uncomfortable and the full panel are up past my boobs. I’m full on showing now with a big round belly due to having short torso, third kid and being 20 weeks. So basically I’m living in sweats and IDGAF.
  • When I tried on side panel jeans a few weeks ago I just felt like they fit weird -- gapped and weren't comfortable. The full panel goes up to my bra too but I can't stand to have anything around my waist at all.

I don't have any maternity shirts yet but I think that's coming. My t-shirts are getting too constricting.
  • I love full panel. Thankfully I'm pregnant over the winter. In the summer I would be so uncomfortable.

  • If it was summer I'd be in skirts every day!
  • I tried to return some pants if ordered online from Old Navy and the Gap at a Gap store.  They wouldn’t take any of it even though I have tags and receipts.  I was upset.  I have to try and mail it all back now.  Annoying.  The main point of my trip (an hour from my house) was to take care of those returns and I failed.
  • @pirateduck did they say why?? That's unusual, I've never had them refuse to take something back I ordered online.

  • @heyybritt They don't do maternity returns in store. It's usually printed on the packing slip but it's super annoying.

  • Weird.  I just returned my online Gap maternity purchases a few weeks ago with no issues.  And this was after I wore them all day on Thanksgiving before deciding I didn't like how they fit.

  • Same @shamrocandroll. I've taken things back without an issue. Although I have been rejected trying to return online items from Gap Kids to the Gap outlet near me. That's super annoying, but makes sense at least. Sorry you wasted the trip @pirateduck.
  • They just said they don't take Old Navy purchases at Gap, fair enough, but also said they don't take Gap.com stuff.  Maybe it was a Gap.com exclusive or something that isn't sold in stores...  I don't know, but it was super annoying.
  • Hah. Maybe it's only come things--my recent maternity stuff said mail return only.

  • @pirateduck how annoying! an hour from your house, especially this time of year, is a huge pain. you would think in the interests of keeping customers at least they would just mail them back for you after you came all that way.
