Maternity Clothes: Second Trimester

Starting up a new one of these to help minimize notifications for our loss ladies who started them prior. ❤️

I figured maybe we can do this one for the second tri and then a new one for the third tri since our bodies will be ever changing.

Re: Maternity Clothes: Second Trimester

  • Why are my jeans so tight already 😭 I seriously think I need to bust out leggings only already which sucks
  • Loading the player...
  • @mamaj1220 Already wearing maternity jeans. So much more comfortable. Only 11+5 but no shame.
  • @jrouge12 I am not a fan of jeans and pants to begin with so leggings are usually my go to anyways haha. I didn’t buy maternity jeans last pregnancy and I was hoping to avoid it this go around too so leggings are my go to lol
  • I was lurking on March 2020 and saw that Blanqi is having their Black Friday sale now and they offer after pay. Just ordered 4 pairs of leggings for the price of 2.

I haven’t tried the maternity leggings, but I love the postpartum leggings so I decided to splurge this time.
  • Stopped by goodwill today and snagged some gap maternity leggings, a pair of old navy maternity slacks and 2 long sleeve motherhood maternity shirts - the whole lot was less than $10!

I have a decent amount of maternity clothes from last go around but they’re all for fall in Texas instead of winter in Colorado, so I’m trying to get some warmer items! I hate the idea of spending money on something I’m not going to wear for very long though.
  • @chewie5990 $10 for all that is a steal! Even from goodwill!

I just looked up Blanqi and I don't think I can afford that. Even if it's on sale.

  • Not clothing related but I just realized that I still have my old signature from 2014! I hope it didn't confuse anyone. I guess I need to try and change that...

  • @Amyface813 every other Saturday is 50% off the whole store!
  • @Amyface813 It’s my birthday month and I’ve been down this whole pregnancy since I’m starting out about 10lbs lighter than I was at the end of my last pregnancy. DH was basically spoiling me to make me feel better since I literally have nothing that fits. I’m one of those that gained 25lbs going off the pill. 😭
  • There is a nice article today in the Bump about maternity clothes, if anyone is interested.

@mamaj1220 I hear you. I only wear leggings in public to the gym (a self esteem issue on my part). I'm a teacher and somehow in my crazy logic jeans are more acceptable to wear to school right now than leggings. I'm certainly done dressing in my professional wardrobe for awhile.
  • Treat yourself @rox7777! I am super cheep. I was hoping 50% off meant like $7 for a tank top. :)

  • @Amyface813 Amazon has amazing maternity tanks with built in bras. You can get a pack of 3 for $20ish. They’re amazing.
  • @jrouge12 when I worked in special education in preschool aides would wear pajamas and I just can’t, like I totally get comfort but that’s just messy and lazy to me. With leggings I make sure to have a dress or long shirt. Speaking of shirts, anyone have good brands that will stretch and go for as long as possible?
  • @mamaj1220 Currently loving the Old Navy luxe long sleeve tees. Super stretchy, soft and tunic length.
  • Update: the secret to keeping my maternity leggings up is to size down. Motherhood has the best ones. Lastly they have the most comfortable sweatpants I’ve ever purchased and I have been so comfortable and snuggly today I wish I could wear only that forever.

  • @rox7777 I just ordered a pair of Blanqi's and I have a pair of Zella's on the way.  I ordered the Blanqi's a size up for when I'm huge. I. Cannot. Wait.
  • @ruby696 I’m hoping they’re roomy enough to fit me for a while, but I got two in my current size and two in the next size up just in case! I’ve heard mixed reviews about the tanks, some people say they’re too compressing and hurt after a while, but I was still tempted.

I was just checking reviews on the Zella’s! I never splurge on myself and have felt pretty down about my weight and wardrobe this pregnancy so I’m determined to buy stuff I love. Let me know how they compare?! I have a Nordstrom card and I know Black Friday has sales coming up.

@rox7777 I think I'm going to need all the support i can get with two babies, so I don't mind splurging this time. If I love the Zella's, I'll probably buy a second pair in a medium. I'm sure my belly will outgrow the small.

  • I also am in the camp that I don't think I can wear leggings to work, unless with a sweater dress or tunic top or something long and it's leggings instead of traditional tights.  This is something I normally do anyway because I am tall and many shirts I own that are meant to be dresses are just too short on a tall girl to wear in public without leggings even though they are considerably longer than any regular shirts I own.  So, my regular wardrobe is somewhat working, dress it up with boots and a scarf and fun jewelry.  However I did buy one pair of maternity jeans which I am wearing at work right now.  Soooo comfortable and only $30 at Target.  Jeans at the office are somewhat frowned upon, but my boss wears them, so I do, but try and limit it so it's not an every day thing.  Unfortunately none of my slacks fit properly now, I can zip and button most, but not comfortably at all!  I don't think I'll be wearing most of my work pants anytime soon.  Elastic waisted skirts have been one of my go to items lately, soft and comfortable.
  • Sorry if this was already said, but one thing I did last time was buy some stretchy dresses one size up. That way they sort of grew with me (both up and down). It worked great (except for the one time I put the dress on backwards and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t fitting right... thanks pregnancy brain).
  • I bought these babies on sale last week for work pants.  They have them in long inseams and I figure while they probably won't work for the whole pregnancy, they'll buy me some time before going into maternity, and they'll be good for going back to work postpartum.  They were only $29 when I ordered.

  • @lfritos yessss. Old Navy swing dresses are perfect for that. For winter you can just pop leggings underneath and boom, dressed.

  • @Austenista this is exactly what I am talking about.  Just looked these up and must buy a few.  But like I said, wearing without leggings probably is not an option for a tall girl.   :D
  • Not sure if any other mommas are military, but Kohls now offers 15% off on Mondays to military and this year on Veterans Day will be doubling that to 30% (for that day only). Target is also offering 10% off through the 11th but you have to preregister.
  • Prana Vida Style has the most comfortable leggings and yoga bras. I bought a bunch of their leggings prior to pregnancy but she markets to pregnant and nursing woman. Everything is eco friendly materials either recycled plastic, bamboo or eucalyptus. Some leggings are fleece lined so it's perfect for winter. It's not clothing I could wear to work but it's perfect for casual and yoga.
  • MH and I were just discussing this as last time around (due date is a day off from my due date with dd) I was in maternity clothes by December and this time around I think I'll end up wearing my regular pants longer as I M almost 30 lbs lighter than I was when I got pregnant with dd. Yay for breastfeeding!
  • I bought a ton of stuff from old Navy recently. Some maternity and some just large tunic length stuff. The best is the low panel maternity jeans. I don't want to wear full panel yet, but regular pants buttons and zippers are not happening either. Happy medium :). They also come in long, regular, and short!

Anybody have good recommendations for bras and sports bras for very large busts? I got one maternity bra at the beginning that I'm already outgrowing and I need help!
  • @lisush I really like my kindred bravely bras. I'm not large buste , but they come in "busty" sizes for those who are. They're super soft and comfy.
  • @jhysmath thanks! I'll give that a try. I'm glad they have a good return policy because I'm skeptical about anything not containing underwire doing much of anything. Might as well go braless!
  • @lisush
I was skeptical too because I've always had underwire, but I read it wasn't good for breastfeeding because it could cause a clog duct so I just went with it. I ended up using their french terry cloth ones most often in the beginning of breastfeeding because it was just more comfortable. I don't wear them very often anymore now that DD is slowly weaning and my boobs are sad saggy things I feel I need more structure to make them look more presentable, but weekends I live in them.

I found that wrap dresses and tops, as well as dresses that are flowy past the bust were great for dual use (pre/during/post pregnancy). I was pregnant over the summer last time so I can't make those work just yet since winter here is harsh, but this time around I've bought a bunch of stretchy sweater dresses along with maternity tights and leggings and I'm hoping for the best. Also super excited to wear those chunky fall sweaters that never worked for me before but that requires wearing stupid maternity pants that never stay up  :#

ETA: ALSO! I love normally wearing high waisted pants and skirts so I've got a lot of shorter tops that don't restrict bump growth. Can't wait to start wearing those kinds of outfits with the bump!

  • @lisush I bought one of these, and it's the best maternity bra I've tried.  It feels actually supportive and has some padding so my nips aren't sticking out like turkey poppers.  I immediately bought 2 more.

So this year I'll be required to attend a holiday party at work for clients/homeowners.  I have no idea how large I will be by then, but I know that nothing I own now that actually fits will be a suitable outfit for this  type of affair.  I don't wanna spend a ton of money on an outfit I will likely only wear once...  just throwing that out there, I'm sure they may be a few of you in the same boat.  As we get closer to the time if anyone finds anything cute or finds a store with good selections, let me know!  I need to dress up, but it's not like a semi-formal affair or anything.  I could go slacks and a blouse and nice shoes or a dress with tights.
  • @pirateduck Keep an eye out for sales on PinkBlush.  I got a really nice dress for a wedding and used it again for my baby shower for like $20 on sale form there my first pregnancy.  Maybe they'll do additional discounts around the holidays and you can find a good sale score.

  • @shamrocandroll @pirateduck I want to say that on Black Friday they do a 50% off sale at PinkBlush...
  • @laurasauruss where did you get the sweater dresses? I’d been thinking about getting some.

@pirateduck Have you checked out ThreadUp? They usually have some great second-hand options and some kind of discount code on top of it.
  • My target also had a lot of nice dress up maternity options when I was in there two weeks ago. I was actually surprised. I bought my baby shower dress from target and still love it.
  • @lisush I’m very busty and the kindred bravely bras in the busty size worked for me. Specifically the Simply Sublime Nursing Bra. I’ve started wearing them again now that everything is expanding and growing again...
I wouldn’t say they have the most support, but they work as long as you’re not jogging or something. I tried to get some similar ones from Motherhood maternity and had to give them away - they were too small.

@shamrocandroll ooh those look good! Might have to get one of those.
