Re: November Randoms

  • @kiki75 that sounds like a great thread! My husband refuses to get a Squatty Potty, maybe now is the time for me to convince him that I need one (b/c pregnancy). He also wants a Peloton for the exact same reason, so he can get a workout in while still being in hearing distance of the baby.

@chaos-and-coffee As far as dry skin goes, I've been using Vaseline on my feet. It was recommended the last time I had a pedicure and has been amazing (lotion never really worked). I slather some on after a shower or at night and then put socks on. Been trying tea tree oil for the zits, can't really tell if it's helping, though.

  • @hewg1287, you're turning me back into psycho now... Where I live, there seems to be a long wait for everything. But not on my watch when it comes to my baby! The appointment is only a couple days away now, but I'll be making sure that the doctor is following proper protocol and I'll need answers for EVERYTHING!

Hey teachers! How would you feel about a specific teacher checkin? We had one on my last BMB and it was so good. It’s a totally different profession in terms of hiding it, bathroom breaks, types of stress, etc. there’s a bunch of us now and I’d love to connect and hear your pregnancy/teaching stories!

on a side note related to that, we have three teachers due November 20th this year 😆

  • @alli392 I'm down for a teacher thread!

  • @alli392 I’m having major skin breakouts, and am searching for a decent face wash (or even skin care routine) that works!
  • @JessiBride I was a server/bartender last pregnancy. It was really unpleasant. Food smells, helping makes some, being social and on my feet. Ew.

  • @chaos-and-coffee I use cerave but I used it before pregnancy too. Most days I don't put makeup on but I do notice my skin gets angry now with the nars tinted moisturizer. I've been putting clinique moisture surge under it and it's been helping. It doesn't clog my pores and acts like a barrier
  • Major props to you pregnant teachers!  I was thinking this week "at least I get to just go sit on my butt and be antisocial...thank goodness I'm not a teacher!"

    ^^^^ This ^^^^
  • @alli392 teacher check in would be awesome. I'm seriously dragging.
  • @alli392 Would love a teacher check in! Gathering the energy to teach is a serious struggle right now.
  • I think I am going crazy, I feel like I have hair on my tongue towards my throat and on the roof of my mouth. I have brushed my teeth like 6 times today. having my boss(He's a dentist) check me out tomorrow if it doesn't go away. This is ANNOYING and making me gag so bad.
  • @lizanet that's so weird!! I haven't experienced that but keep us posted because that must be so tickly and strange!

@akoros yay for earlier baby! Glad your appointment went well!

  • @alli392 Oh my gosh, SO relieved! I know there's still plenty that could happen, but so happy to have at least one good appointment under my belt.
  • @alli392 thanks. it totally went away. Maybe its all the throwing up I have been doing, idk. Hopefully it never comes back.
  • @lizanet That sounds so frustrating, glad it went away! I hate weird sensations like that, makes you feel crazy because you know nothing is there, but you can't get it to stop.
  • Flying for work on Sunday and just ordered a pair of sexy compression socks. Going to be the most glamorous girl on that plane!

  • Noooooooooooooooo. I locked myself out of the house on the daycare run. I have never done this before in my entire life. I had a rough morning with the toddler and must not have noticed that they weren't in my purse.

Oh NO!! I hope it's not too cold where you're at, and that spare keys/unlocked window can be found swiftly.

We keep a spare key hidden outside. We've only had to use it once, but it was super important.

  • @pourmeanothermocktail Thanks! I am in southern CA. It's actually a super nice temp outside (finally not blazing hot) and DH was looking for a reason to WFH today anyway, so it all worked out. My BFF has our spare key and he used to live 2 miles away (and work from a home office), and that was an excellent backup key plan.  This was a "cheap" lesson for me to hide another key somewhere in the yard/garage. The toddler was at daycare and our wifi reaches the front porch, so the biggest casualty today was my pride.  And delaying breakfast.

  • @kyrwyn I'm glad it was more annoying than harmful! Bruised pride is no fun still!

I got to spend 40 min shoveling while baby wearing after getting toddler on bus today. I was imagining how wrecked my day would be had I locked myself out and not had my spare hidden. Aka-only other key would be 3 states away with my husband.

  • @kyrwyn when we moved into our house the first thing we did was put a keypad on the back door. It’s so nice not having to worry about losing a house key! Added bonus is if we need somebody to check on the house, dogs, etc we can just give them a code.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail oof mama. Our driveway gets so icy my husband won’t even let me walk to our mailbox, let alone shovel while baby wearing! That makes me nervous for you even though I know you didn’t really have a choice!

My random thoughts for today are just frustration. How can I be so grateful for this baby yet so so tired of feeling foggy and hungry but too nauseous to eat real food to really appreciate it? My random isn’t so random I guess. Just really really ready to be done with first tri.

  • Sitting in the DMV trying to renew my drivers license and oohh the smells....and I'm hungry and there are still 13 people in front of me...ugh...
  • I apparently now have my second cold during this pregnancy 🙃. The tickle in my throat last night and this morning had me sitting next to the toilet waiting to throw up for hours (including throughout the night) and made me throw up in my mouth while driving to work. Yuck.

I have wonton soup for dinner though.
  • The wait for my NIPT results is killing me! Patience is a virtue... that I do not possess.
  • @FigTreeMama Did my NIPT blood draw on Friday and can’t wait for the results! When did you do yours?

  • I didn't know where to post this and I need to vent so here goes. Sorry this is my first (aside from the intro) post and it's just me complaining.

I feel like I've lost my identity now that I'm pregnant. Over the past 5 years I've lost almost 100 pounds. I've turned my life around and got healthy: I lost that weight, I eat better, I quit smoking cigarettes (after 13 years of smoking), and just before finding out I'm pregnant I ran my first half marathon. I still have another 30 pounds to lose before my short little self is considered to be at a healthy BMI.

But now here comes this baby saying, "Feck that it's all about me now no more weight loss for you" and I just feel helpless. I was not expecting this pregnancy, and it's not to say I'm not excited; most days I am. But now I'm not kittysaurus the weight-loss, new runner extraordinaire. Now I'm kittysaurus the short fat girl who's just going to get fatter again. 5 years of hard work and determination in the toilet for 9 months.

Admittedly, I feel better just typing that all out. Thanks to anyone who made it this far reading. You all are amazing!
  • @kittysaurus Hugs. The body image adjustment isn't always easy. I just did my second half marathon, a week before my missed period, after spending 2 years working hard on my body being very broken from my first birth (that's not normal, but I had an abusive birth), so that I suddenly couldn't run after having been a runner since I was 11. From June 2016 until May 2019 I couldn't run. It took a lot of work (and pausing during a second pregnancy, lol) to fix a very broken pelvis. I finally get it together, and now it's falling apart from pregnancy again. But now I know I have the strength and ability to come back from it. And having been forced into one largely sedentary pregnancy, I know better how to handle another without silly amounts of weight gain.

Obviously, you need to discuss weight with doctor, but it's possible you only need to gain a few pounds for pregnancy, and many women can run all the way through, I did with my first. I did slow down and shorten distances, but I kept running. You can still be a fit pregnant woman. Even though I end up largely disabled during pregnancy there's still some training I can do to keep up muscle strength and stay fit and healthy.

  • @kittysaurus There's a lot of a"my body is not my own" feelings and adjustment in being pregnant. I want to second what @pourmeanothermocktail has said in that there are ways to stay active and healthy during your pregnancy, and depending on your starting weight your OB may be able to give you a small or moderate weight gain goal.

You're still a badass weight-loss running health-improving mama. It's just going to take a slightly different form now, but I'm convinced you'll still crush it. I am in no way at all an athlete, but I was walking 3.5-4.5 miles a day up to my son's birth.

  • Thank you so much, @pourmeanothermocktail and @kyrwyn it's always comforting to hear other's stories and perspectives. I have my first appointment with my OB this Wednesday and am eager discuss my concerns with her. Thank you both for the suggestions and what I should be asking/thinking about!
  • @kittysaurus that’s not going to be an easy adjustment but it can happen! What was really good for me in my first pregnancy was appreciating the new things my body could do I had no idea it was capable of (stretching and growing a human but also not to mention somehow pushing out baby and then producing so much milk for that baby we breastfed for 15 months). I have a whole new appreciation for my body now than I did then. And even though these nine months feel long, I remember the day I stopped wearing maternity clothes and went back to a middle size, and then the day I went back to prepregnancy size, and then even the day those clothes became loose (breastfeeding burns so many calories), I was a little bit sad that my body wasn’t carrying my baby in the same way. But also absolutely amazed that I could have a belly with a full baby inside one month and be back to myself just a season of life later. It seems like a roadblock now, but you’re going to come out of this seeing your body in a way you never knew before and maybe loving it just a little bit more too. So maybe that will help 😊

DD just turned 18 months so there are some hormones influencing this post for sure.

  • @kittysaurus You can still be the same health conscious super woman while pregnant.  In fact, in my opinion, there are few things healthier and more amazing you can do with your body than grow a baby.  But I do understand that it's hard to change your mindset when you have been so focused on something for so long.  And the hormones always make the emotional things a little harder.  Congrats on the amazing weight loss!
  • @thinkpositive2017 I had mine on Monday (11/11). FX for both of us!
