Re: The Great Question Thread

  • Is anyone else having Braxton Hicks contractions? I didn’t at all with my first, but I’m getting them pretty regularly this time around.
Yes I am getting them all the time with this one. Luckily they don't hurt. This pregnancy is SO much different than the last!

  • @TennisLove30 I was getting them for a while but now that I am drinking more water, they have calmed down a bit.
  • @TennisLove30 I get them regularly and did with my first also. I get them probably 1-5 times a day.
  • I’m glad to know I’m not alone. I drank a ton of water today, and I haven’t had any.
  • @TennisLove30 Yes! I didn't until the end w/my first and was surprised to feel them so much now. I had one day that they lasted for 12 hours unless I laid down. I asked my midwife about it and she wasn't concerned as long as I could get them to go away. I don't really want to have them for the next 3.5 months though  :/
  • I have a dental appointment on Wednesday, is there anything I need to let them know other than I'm pregnant? I think I'm due for my yearly xrays.
Also nervous bc the dentist there sold her practice and although she said the other staff there is the same, it's the new dentists I havent met. She was my favorite dentist ever!
  • @babyroma I just went in August and I was due for Xrays. I just told them I was pregnant and they said they would skip the xrays this go around and also didn't do fluoride either.
  • @babyroma as long as they know you’re pregnant, they’ll take appropriate measures (e.g. no x-rays). I just recently had a cavity filled.
  • I’m totally having braxton hicks. I’ve had them a couple times except they really hurt when they do. I hope this isn’t saying I’m going to be a huge wimp.

@babyroma I’m due for mine too. I called about no xrays but now I’m worried about being on my back the whole time. I already get pretty symptomatic. Something to keep in mind if you do.
  • @babyroma, I had a dentist appt 2 weeks ago and they just didn’t do xrays. She also didn’t lay me quite as flat and said to let her know if it bothered me. I went when even more pregnant with DD and it was the same thing. Regular dental check ups in pregnancy are recommended.
  • @babyroma I just went last week to a new dentist and they didn't do xrays.  They gave me breaks whenever I needed and made sure not to lay my completely flat.

  • @22ksi2 I havent seemed to have any issues laying on my back for a while. I tend to wake up on my back most nights!
  • @babyroma I go to the dentist in November. I’ve already been to the orthodontist because my permanent retainer broke and she just told me to let her know if i felt weird being laid back. It was fine.

Also taking DS for his first time When I go to the dentist and I’m kind of nervous about how this is going to go!

  • Plus one for Braxton Hicks! Also following the trend of them seeming to be earlier with this pregnancy.
  • @leksiL just have someone snap a Christmas PJ picture in front of the tree or fireplace!
  • People with an anterior placenta - how much movement are you feeling now? Week 22 here and definitely not feeling any real
kicks. Sometimes (rarely) a flutter but that’s it.
  • @optimism3 I have anterior placenta and have been feeling movement. I am 24, almost 25 weeks and am definitely starting to feel the kicks now.
  • @optimism3 Anterior placenta here, 22w5d - starting feeling definite kicks on Monday morning (22w3d) and now I feel them way more often. I'm sure you'll feel them soon!!
  • @optimism3 I’m feeling a lot more now and I’m 23 weeks tomorrow! They’re not super strong but I can feel them

  • @optimism3 24 weeks, STM and AP. I am feeling a TON of movement, but I think I am much more sensitive to it as a STM
  • @kiwi2628 I’m a STM too. I think there’s just a lot of factors that make it different for everyone.

  • @optimism3 I'm 25 weeks with an anterior placenta and like @kiwi2628 said, I'm feeling this kid A LOT these days. It's possible because it's my second go around...but I'm big enough now that my placenta isn't covering the whole front of my uterus. I usually feel him on my sides or closer to my navel. I'm sure you'll start feeling them more and more soon! It's definitely started picking up in the past couple weeks for me.

  • Thanks for all the input ladies! Hopefully I’ll be with you all soon and feeling more
  • @optimism3 I have had six pregnancies make it to second tri and this by far is the latest I started feeling regular movements.  Not sure why, but a definite observation.  Even though this is my sixth successful pregnancy, I still have moments that I question whether a movement was a kick or my stomach. It did get much more consistent in my 22nd week, but there are still times I don’t feel him much at 23 weeks.  I’ve had two other anterior placenta pregnancies and the feeling of movements is much more reduced than a posterior pregnancy.  I am sure the kicks are just as strong, but that placenta pads so much.
  • @optimism3 I have an AP and am at 23w 4d. It seems like just this week I've been feeling flutters on the daily - maybe 3 to 4 times a day. Before this week, I would go days without feeling anything. Still pretty light sensations - nothing too powerful.
  • @optimism3 FTM. 22wks with AP. I've felt some flutters but nothing on a regular basis and I have gone days in between feeling anything. I was also told baby measured small at last US and have to go back to see if I need to see a specialist if she measures small again...
  • Now I feel like we all have APs! lol. Maybe I need to pay more attention generally for the flutters even.

@rebornlotus hope all goes well and no need for a specialist.
  • I have a question about crib sheets. A few weeks ago, I bought a mini fitted crib sheet. Didn't see the "mini" in the description and it definitely doesn't fit a regular crib mattress. It is 6 inch deep though so it won't fit a mattress for a bassinet. Where can I use it???

  • @optimism3 I also have an AP and I've felt baby girl move since 18 weeks. I only feel her near my bladder area and only when I am sitting down, lying on my stomach (can't do that anymore). I mostly feel her in the morning and at night.

  • @rikiteacup, they make “mini cribs” for small spaces, different than a pack and play but similar size. The sheets are probably for that.
  • @rikiteacup I would just return it since it doesn’t fit your crib mattress.
  • @rikiteacup The cribs at our daycare use mini-sheets, so you could possibly use it for that if you'll be in daycare. With my first we just used a normal sheet and it was oversized, but I went ahead and bought a mini one this time so it fits better.

@optimism3 AP with both pregnancies and feeling regular kicks as well as wiggles and twitching at 24 weeks this time. With DS I swear he never moved this much at any point the whole pregnancy. I had to actively do kick counts with him and he'd regularly not get to 10 in an hour and it'd take all day to reach 10. With this baby I get 10 in an hour all the freaking time and we're still a month off even thinking about counting kicks... I think it's got a lot to do with demeanor and size of the child, as well as being FTM vs STM, and there must be something in there about exact AP placement making it feel different too.
  • Does anyone do acupuncture and does anyone do gua sha? I went to acupuncture today and my acupuncturist did gua sha. She said it was safe for pregnancy but now I’m reading online and a bunch of sites say it’s not recommended and I’m freaking out. She’s very qualified and even teaches acupuncture. She also did it on my mid to upper back only, but I’m bugging. Thanks anyone
  • @optimism3 I have an AP and 25 weeks(also FTM) last week I started to feel thumps but they get stronger everyday I think!

    - yep, we needed to have two to start daycare.
    - they also fit pack n plays which are good for travel and I used the bassinet section pretty early with DD1.

  • So my last appointment they finally did the fundal measurement but it was off because I have a high belly button? The doctor didn't seem phased but was training a nurse and he told her that the measurement wouldn't equal what I was in weeks. Anyone deal with this?

  • @brookert615 I think if they have concerns with growth they would just do a sono and get measurements.  What was the fundal height out of curiosity?  If it’s off by a little I imagine it’s not much reason for concern anyways.
  • @DDRRT1982 They didn't even say the measurement out loud. As soon as she got the measuring tape out the doctor was like "So this is a case where everything you learned about fundal height was wrong" to the nurse and mentioned since my belly button was high.
