I had my whooping cough vaccine today. My doctors practice didnt have their delivery of flu vaccines in yet so I couldnt get it at the same time. Dh’s practice does have them so he brought one home for me. So now im sat with 2 sore arms 😭
Did my glucose test, Tuesday morning. I had mcdonalds breakfast and an iced coffee beforehand. The drink wasnt as bad as people make it out to be. I had a bit of a sugar rush which made it hard to sit still. But, I got my results back and looks like no GD or low iron for me
Today was a growth scan with mfm, 24w6d. They both played hard to get and the scan took almost 2 hours, but the tech was finally able to get everything she needed. Baby boy measured 25w6d and baby girl measured 23w1d. Growth discordance was at 36.3% and blood flow was the same. The dr came in flabbergasted. She even commented on how she didn’t want to bring up tmz or the national enquierer and babies conceived at separate times, but she can’t wrap her head around it. Baby b has been following her growth curve, the blood flow hasn’t gotten any worse and she’s even breathing on her own. From what she said if there was something wrong with the placenta or blood flow she wouldn’t be breathing on her own and she’s been doing it. I’ll keep going for weekly blood flow checks and biweekly growth scans, but it really gives me some reassurance everything is ok.
@kbrown2385 I've known someone else to have twins conceived at different times. It was their only explanation. It does seem to make sense here! Also it could be why they didn't see you had twins for so long!
Well I had an interesting start to my day but did end up with a great growth scan of the girls at MFM. I woke up at 2am with SHOOTING pain in my lower back. I tried everything I could think of, and then started throwing up, so I went to the ER around 5am. They did blood and urine tests and an ultra sound of my kidneys. I’ve managed to get myself a kidney stone 😑 it is so painful I’ve never had one before! Unfortunately the only treatment and pain management for pregnant women is hydration and Tylenol. I haven’t been able to keep anything down al day today and am in lots of pain, so hoping this stone passes in days and not weeks! They also sent me up to the labor and delivery floor for monitoring which was interesting at almost 25 weeks.. hooked me up to a contraction monitor to make sure the pushing of the stone thru wouldn’t cause contractions and also monitored the girls heart rates. All good there. MFM is actually at my hospital so I went up for a growth scan. Girls are luckily blissfully unaware of the pain mommy is in and are both doing great. Their growth has plateaued on the curve somewhat but nothing to be alarmed with as Baby A is 51st percentile and Baby B is 45th. All in all I’m so relieved these babies are okay but this stone has got to go!!
@amb0924 kidney stones are the WORST! I hope it passes quickly for you and you’re on the mend soon. Glad you got to see the girls and they are doing well!
The pain is moving more towards my front/lower abdomen today which leads me to believe stone is moving, but i'm going to drink lots of water/gatorade and try and take it easy to avoid any potential contractions today. Makes me nervous....
Had an appointment with my new reg OB today for my 24 week check up. My old ON retired so I got transferred to a new one. So I was a bit nervous but so far super impressed. She was interested in what I had to say and we had intelligent reasoned conversations so that was awesome. We talked about what to do about the possibility of Vasa previa. She understood why I might be hesitant to say that it's just gone and made me feel closely monitored! I think she was actually relieved when I said that even if everything looks good I want to be induced so my water breaks in the hospital so we are certainly on the same page! Always nice to have doctors you trust!!
Good news! Unless a pebble already existed in my office toilet this morning, I think I passed that stupid stone!! I didn't get a great look because the automatic flusher was too fast for me, but I don't feel anymore pain or pressure so I'm going to take that as a win!
On another note- I also had my glucose test this morning- no results yet, but definitely drink water before/after your test. I got a little lightheaded after drinking it and now (about 3 hours later) I'm experiencing my sugar low
I had 3 appointments this week: flu shot clinic, 24 week midwife appointment, and dental check-up/cleaning. All went well. Baby is measuring right where they should be, had a great chat with my midwife about the hospital I'll be delivering at, and my gums are evidently "in beautiful shape" for someone who is pregnant (they sure did bleed a lot during the cleaning, though!).
Anecdotally, I thought the flu shot was relatively easy this year. My arm was hardly sore afterwards and I didn't get that general "run-down" feeling I often get the day after a vaccine. (Or maybe "run-down" is just my current state of being so I couldn't tell the difference )
I plan on getting my flu shot. My ob didn’t have them at my 24 week appointment so they’ll be sticking me twice at my 28 week appointment with both flu and tdap 🤣🤣
@amb0924 glad it passed and you're feeling better!
@cats_in_a_window I'll second the flu shot. I didn't even have a sore arm this time and I usually do. My OB said they're expecting it to be an earlier flu season too. The shot takes about a month for you to build up to fill strength protection, so get it quickly if you plan on getting it.
I found out I'm anemic at my appointment earlier this week, despite being on an OTC iron supplement, so my OB prescribed a different one. My insurance wanted to charge $650!! They said it countered as OTC, even though it's prescription only, and wouldn't cover it. Luckily I can get it from the manufacturer for $50/month. Still expensive, but much more reasonable!
@persnickity I haven't been on that one but one similar with vit c and b12 and it was the same price $50 per bottle OTC so that seems reasonable and I found it to be worth it. It looks like a good iron supplement!!
I had twin clinic this afternoon, so blood samples, urine samples, blood pressure check, CO breath test, growth scan & check in with my consultant. all is good with both babies, with baby girl measuring about 3lbs & baby boy measuring about 2lb 11oz. I had been a little concerned as I feel a lot more movement on my right side (baby boy) but both babies are growing well, having gained about a pound each in the 4 weeks since my last appointment & had strong heartbeats. We discussed delivery again & theres no movement from 23rd dec as my section date if I dont go into spontaneous labour before then 😕
Re: October Appointments
thank you @biolprof ! even the doctor was just like - well to add insult to injury-sorry LOL

@amb0924 kidney stones are awful!! Having them pregnant would be so cruel.

A quick PSA for anyone who hasn't received the flu shot yet: now's the time to get one! According to the CDC, the flu shot has been shown to be totally safe for pregnant women, reduces flu-related hospitalizations by ~40%, and gives protection to your baby before they are old enough to receive their own flu shot: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/highrisk/pregnant.htm?s_cid=PN-NCIRD-OY3-Maternal-AW-PregCare-4?s_cid=PN-NCIRD-OY3-Maternal-AW-PregVax-1
Australia is having a particularly bad flu season this year, which likely means it will be a bad season as it travels around the globe: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/04/health/flu-australia-america.html
