Re: October Appointments

  • Here I am just finished this drink and now waiting out my 60mins here for the glucose test 🙂

  • @c1kc1kpol1cn1k - Good luck! Did they have you fast or eat normally?
  • @marebear15 just normal! I had a light breakfast and hopefully can have lunch rightness after this. They just said no sweets or fruit in the morning
  • I had my whooping cough vaccine today. My doctors practice didnt have their delivery of flu vaccines in yet so I couldnt get it at the same time. Dh’s practice does have them so he brought one home for me. So now im sat with 2 sore arms 😭
  • @kbrown2385 im so glad to hear both babies are looking good & doing well! Xxx
  • @kbrown2385 I've known someone else to have twins conceived at different times. It was their only explanation. It does seem to make sense here! Also it could be why they didn't see you had twins for so long!
  • @biolprof that’s exactly what we talked about because of not seeing the twin on previous scans. The whole thing is bizarre!
  • @kbrown2385 baby b is a super miracle baby!!!
  • @kbrown2385, it happens! It's rare, but happens.
  • Well I had an interesting start to my day but did end up with a great growth scan of the girls at MFM. I woke up at 2am with SHOOTING pain in my lower back. I tried everything I could think of, and then started throwing up, so I went to the ER around 5am. They did blood and urine tests and an ultra sound of my kidneys. I’ve managed to get myself a kidney stone 😑 it is so painful I’ve never had one before! Unfortunately the only treatment and pain management for pregnant women is hydration and Tylenol. I haven’t been able to keep anything down al day today and am in lots of pain, so hoping this stone passes in days and not weeks! They also sent me up to the labor and delivery floor for monitoring which was interesting at almost 25 weeks.. hooked me up to a contraction monitor to make sure the pushing of the stone thru wouldn’t cause contractions and also monitored the girls heart rates. All good there. MFM is actually at my hospital so I went up for a growth scan. Girls are luckily blissfully unaware of the pain mommy is in and are both doing great. Their growth has plateaued on the curve somewhat but nothing to be alarmed with as Baby A is 51st percentile and Baby B is 45th. All in all I’m so relieved these babies are okay but this stone has got to go!!
  • @amb0924 kidney stones are the WORST! I hope it passes quickly for you and you’re on the mend soon. Glad you got to see the girls and they are doing well!
  • @amb0924 that sounds so rough. What's worse than a kidney stone....one while pregnant. I'm so glad the girls are okay though!
  • thank you @kbrown2385! I'm happy to hear both your babies are still growing according to their curves and Baby B ninja baby is doing so good =)

thank you @biolprof ! even the doctor was just like - well to add insult to injury-sorry LOL
  • Oh @amb0924 how awful for you! I hope it passes quickly and you get some relief! Glad to hear your girls are doing well though!
  • @marebear15 it clearly the only explanation.
  • @amb0924 - Oh how awful! I'm glad the stone isn't causing you to contract, but I've heard the pain is terrible. Hope it passes quickly.
  • @amb0924 hope you get some relief soon!
  • thanks, @marebear15 and @c1kc1kpol1cn1k <3

The pain is moving more towards my front/lower abdomen today which leads me to believe stone is moving, but i'm going to drink lots of water/gatorade and try and take it easy to avoid any potential contractions today. Makes me nervous....
  • @amb0924 - Do you have cranberry juice too? My FIL gets kidney stones way too often and that's the only thing that makes them pass.
  • @kbrown2385 that's amazing that everything is continuing on track for both babies. So glad you keep getting reassuring news!!

@amb0924 kidney stones are awful!! Having them pregnant would be so cruel.
  • @marebear15 no but I will 100% send my DH to go buy some! I'll try anything- thank you!!
  • @amb0924 - Yay! So glad it passed and you don't have anymore pain.
  • @amb0924 so glad you finally passed it and are feeling better!
  • @amb0924 that is wild!! glad it has passed though :)
  • Yay @amb0924! So glad that it has passed!
  • @amb0924 so glad to hear that you're feeling better!
  • I had 3 appointments this week: flu shot clinic, 24 week midwife appointment, and dental check-up/cleaning.  All went well.  Baby is measuring right where they should be, had a great chat with my midwife about the hospital I'll be delivering at, and my gums are evidently "in beautiful shape" for someone who is pregnant (they sure did bleed a lot during the cleaning, though!).

A quick PSA for anyone who hasn't received the flu shot yet: now's the time to get one!  According to the CDC, the flu shot has been shown to be totally safe for pregnant women, reduces flu-related hospitalizations by ~40%, and gives protection to your baby before they are old enough to receive their own flu shot: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/highrisk/pregnant.htm?s_cid=PN-NCIRD-OY3-Maternal-AW-PregCare-4?s_cid=PN-NCIRD-OY3-Maternal-AW-PregVax-1

Australia is having a particularly bad flu season this year, which likely means it will be a bad season as it travels around the globe: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/04/health/flu-australia-america.html

Anecdotally, I thought the flu shot was relatively easy this year.  My arm was hardly sore afterwards and I didn't get that general "run-down" feeling I often get the day after a vaccine.  (Or maybe "run-down" is just my current state of being so I couldn't tell the difference  )
  • I plan on getting my flu shot. My ob didn’t have them at my 24 week appointment so they’ll be sticking me twice at my 28 week appointment with both flu and tdap 🤣🤣

    PG #2: EDD 8/15/23 Miscarried 9w1d 1/11/23
    PG #3: EDD 12/15/23
  • @stashattack I got both on the same day too. I felt a bit rough the day after but was fine after that again
  • @amb0924 glad it passed and you're feeling better!

@cats_in_a_window I'll second the flu shot. I didn't even have a sore arm this time and I usually do. My OB said they're expecting it to be an earlier flu season too. The shot takes about a month for you to build up to fill strength protection, so get it quickly if you plan on getting it.

I found out I'm anemic at my appointment earlier this week, despite being on an OTC iron supplement, so my OB prescribed a different one. My insurance wanted to charge $650!! They said it countered as OTC, even though it's prescription only, and wouldn't cover it. Luckily I can get it from the manufacturer for $50/month. Still expensive, but much more reasonable!
  • @persnickity which OTC iron. I've been in them all and know where to find them!
  • @biolprof I've been prescribed FeRiva 21-7. I was taking Meijer iron before
  • @persnickity I haven't been on that one but one similar with vit c and b12 and it was the same price $50 per bottle OTC so that seems reasonable and I found it to be worth it. It looks like a good iron supplement!!
  • @biolprof I was on a 3 day sample and felt so much better. Now I'm just waiting for order to ship. Looking forward to having the extra energy again!
