@MrsVP614, wish I would have done that.. I need to get in maternity clothes.
So, I had my gender reveal cake with DH this weekend.. and it's a GIRL! Unfortunately, I was disappointed at first - not so much that I'm having a girl, but more or less I was mourning the loss of what I had imagined for my family - DS with a little brother. Now DS won't get a little brother, since I know this is will be my last. And there is a 13 year age gap between my girls, so I couldn't see them developing a tight sister-bond.. at least, not until they are much older. So I was really mourning the loss of sibling relationships more than anything.
I had to do some serious re-framing of my thoughts to get to a point of getting excited about this pregnancy again. I convinced myself that: 1. Just because you have two kids of the same gender, close in age, does not guarantee they will be best buds (I've seen plenty examples of this with the adults in my life who have same-gender siblings close in age that they no longer talk to.), 2. brother-sister pairs can get along just as well and develop close bonds (as I've also seen with adults in my life), and 3. even with large age-gaps, the sister-bond can happen ( my best friend in high school's big sister was 10 years older than her, but they were extremely close then and still are today).
So after thinking about it a little while I felt better. I think another part of me REALLY wanted a boy, because my loss pregnancy last year was a boy, due in March, and then I just fell in love with the idea of DS having a little brother... I felt like this pregnancy was almost a do-over and pretty much expected it to be a boy again. Then I realized that's silly, I still need to grieve my loss, I can't just move on and 'replace' it with another pregnancy (though I had hoped to!)
Anyway, long-story-short, I'm on board with the idea of a daughter now.. my family is going to look different than what I initially hoped for/planned, but that' s ok. I'm getting excited for raising a little girl again.. I absolutely loved when DD was little.
@treetop19 your second to last paragraph hit home with me. our loss in March was a girl... so in a way, if this one isn't a girl, it will be a gut punch. BUT! I have had the same revelation as you - you can't replace a pregnancy. this is a new one, a new hope (no starwars jokes pls), and what will be, will be.
I might get to find out the sex this week! Doing an elective ultrasound at a friends 3D/4D office! I have to move to the less constricting clothes. I wore my athletic shorts last night but they made me cramp so bad.... today my shorts are much looser and much more comfortable! I contemplated buying maternity pants but I’m so mad at buying clothes and not knowing how they’ll look in a few months! I’m actually missing my prepregnancy body.. my nausea still has yet to go away. I’m 12w6d and I still feel like garbage most days! Pretty sure I had a virus last week but when you’re pregnant you can’t surely be Sick ever.. big eye roll.
Is anyone else feeling legitimate movement? Ive felt a few flutters here and there, but today and I’ve been feeling actual movements. It’s crazy! I don’t understand how I can feel them so well. I’m not a super tiny person. I’m definitely showing more than I did with my other two also. Who knows.
@miss.sally Last time I felt movement (as a FTM and with an anterior placenta) at 17 wks, so since you’re not a FTM, I could believe you could feel it now.
This week is busy! Hoping for NIPT results and also hoping for good weather as DH and I are going to a cottage with a couple of friends. Work week is SO SLOW after the long weekend and fall is in the air. I just want to curl up in my bed drink PSL everything like the basic b*** I secretly am.
My friends grandmother made the best zucchini bread I’ve every had so that’s giving me life this week.
I went to a consignment sale today and scored some awesome stuff! I’m so excited. I have an Ergo but I wanted the 360 and they had one for $20. Also got a really nice baby monitor with 2 cameras for $20. I was hoping to find a snyggleme. They didn’t have that but I did get a boppy lounger. I can’t wait to get all of my baby stuff organized and start on the nursery.
Wednesdays are my worst work days, and I'd like it to be over...
____
@treetop19 I am a baby girl with two older brothers… and we
are SO close. Seriously. I love the brother/sister relationship SO much. Your
DS is going to protect DD at school and beyond. This is just to confirm your
re-framing, but seriously, I am so close with my brothers and I was growing up
as well! I’m glad you are coming around too because you get to buy all the cute
girl clothes!!!!
@miss.sally I thought it was too early, but I’m a third time mom, 14 weeks, and I think I’m feeling movement today. Flutters like I remember but a little more persistent. The Internet says its possible for second time moms. 🤷🏻♀️ But so cool!
@EmilyLove25 lol we would kill for 96 degree whether for a cottage weekend! Not permanently though since I love fall and crisp whether. It’s supposed to thunderstorm Friday so fingers crossed we will be enjoying the multiple decks and the gorgeous dock vs. cooped up inside
@EmilyLove25 the one I went to was called Sunflower sprouts, which is a local thing, but if you google consignment flash sale in your area I’m sure you could find one! There’s usually one in fall and one in spring, and the fall one is this weekend in a lot of places so definitely google today!! It was like a huuuuuuge warehouse with THOUSANDS of items from furniture to clothing to toys. I even got a mini trampoline for DS for $10. Like. What?! SO worth checking it out even with the crowds. I’m always amazed at the stuff I can find. I hope there’s one close to you! (I can’t remember what part of the country you’re in)
For over a week I have not been able to post or love tit on the app. I was so sad and haven’t been able to get to computer to contribute (blocked on my work computer 😭). I just figured out I wasn’t logged in. 🤦🏼♀️😑
@miss.sally I want to get a boppy lounger this time around! With your new monitor can you put the two cameras in two different rooms? Wondering if we should go with that and put one camera in DD’s room. Her monitor is terrible (I got it used on a buy sell) so if I’m getting a new one that would be cool to update hers too.
@AAAG13 I haven’t looked closely enough to see about putting the two cameras in different rooms, but that would be way cool. I’ll probably take it out to play with it and look up the actual monitor online for product specs and stuff.
@AAAG13 we have a two camera monitor for DS1 and DS2 and we can have the cameras in separate rooms. I'm thinking about buying a third camera for our system as well (it can have up to 4 connected). The only thing is that our parent unit for monitoring the cameras can't really keep a charge much anymore so we mostly have to keep it plugged in, which usually isn't an issue. I might buy a new camera/monitor combo and just switch out the monitor and connect our two cameras to the new monitor. We have the "Infant Optics DXR-8 Video Baby Monitor with Interchangeable Optical Lens".
I'm thinking about getting a second Nest cam and building it in to our suite of systems... anyone use Nest for this?
also - I flossed last night after our tooth discussion and WOW here is a PSA - please go floss once a day. I couldn't believe how bad my gums are this early in pregnancy
@chichiphin We also use Nest cams and love them! We will get one for new baby’s room, but we can still watch/hear DS. We use a cheap audio only monitor so we can hear him at night, but we will just move that to baby’s room once he’s on his own.
I just sold my BSB tickets for tomorrow night’s concert for $350! Woo! I wanted to go, but I was also conflicted about missing a fun event with DS. So now, I’ll happily take the money!
@chichiphin, I feel you on the gums 100%. That was actually my first hint I was pregnant — I flossed and looked like I stepped out of an Anne Rice novel!
I have a Nest camera and was planning on using it in the nursery when the baby comes. It has sound and motion alerts on it. I love my Nest camera, so long as it doesn't keep detaching itself from my freaking WiFi. I think it's because I have it in the basement right now, so the WiFi is a lot less accessible down there than it is upstairs in the main part of my house. Otherwise I have no issues with it and I use it daily to talk to my animals at home LOL!
@chichiphin@pdx2020 With y'all on the flossing being necessary! I'm typically pretty good about flossing most nights, but if I skip even a couple days in a row, it's rough!
@MrsVP614 Yay for making money! It's a bummer since you wanted to go to the show, but hey, that's a good chunk of change and you get some quality time with your LO.
I must enjoy torturing myself because I decided not to take my nausea medicine last night and I’m feeling it today. Boo.
Also DS was up from 1:25-4:45am just crying and tossing and turning so I sat with him. I feel like death on a stick today. I wanted to nap with him but needed lunch first and he woke up after 30 minutes and now won’t go back to sleep. What the heck?! And of course H works late tonight so I have to figure out how to make it through the rest of the day. My head is pounding. Send help.
@miss.sally How far along are you? I have enough of mine for another week & a half and have been wondering if I should re-order. I was thinking about doing this "test" where I don't take it one night and see how I feel the next day, but I'm terrified. (The $60 for a refill is a lot right now in my life, is the major reason I haven't refilled yet =/)
@miss.sally my DS slept awful last night too! He was fussing/coughing every 15 min but by the time I’d jump up (ouch RLP) and make it to his room he’d be asleep and fine. If I stayed in there he was fine. 5 min after laying back in my bed he’d start again. I thought bringing him to my bed would help, nope... then he partied. He’s been up fussing twice so far for nap and I feel bad but I’ve been so tired I’ve told him I love him and I’ll be in when the light turns green then ignored any further noise and he’s gone back to sleep.

@kagesstarshroom I’m 14w+1. Definitely should not be feeling this crappy still. It was long gone with both of my others. I tested a few weeks ago but thought I’d try again. I don’t know why since I still feel a little even with the meds. Ugh! Wishful thinking I guess.
Just had to leave posting and throw up. What the heckkkk?!
@varimama there is a full moon tomorrow and I’m fairly certain DS has a few crappy nights of sleep every full moon. Yay. I’ve heard it can be a thing for kids. Maybe yours is affected by it also. I’m sorry you had to deal also!
I found this place that is super inconvenient but semi near my work that makes "pick your own" smoothies, and I'm addicted to it lately. The nausea is suddenly back with aggression this afternoon, so I just spent 30 minutes getting it. Worth it.
@emilylove25@chichiphin +1 for smoothies here! I am obsessed with making them at home, and the protein powder and greek yogurt are hopefully helping me get some protein in! I am sure if there were a decent smoothie place near campus, I'd be getting them from there, too. I also recently looked up how little caffeine is in most iced teas and have been drinking iced tea at least once a day, no more than two, even though that still puts me wayway under the recommended caffeine limit--yumm.
@kagesstarshroom yup! Love me some iced tea. When everyone else gets wine at dinner, it feels like a treat ha. (And this sounds like I go out to dinner a lot, but maybe it’s been twice ha.)
@silverhope - During my NT scan, the tech mentioned I have an anterior placenta. She said that it may be harder to feel kicks, but is there anything I should ask or be aware about?
ahh the afternoon morning sickness has been a ltitle intense. I can only eat very little, and have major food aversions. Cheese, yogurt, or soup this whole week for dinner.
