@emeraldcity1214 I hope you guys made it to your in-laws safely, that sucks! Hopefully you can get home soon.
  • @emeraldcity1214 that’s terrible! Hope you and yours are safe and away from the fire.
  • @emeraldcity1214 that's so scary!! I hope you all made it back to your ILs safe and sound.

  • @emeraldcity1214 glad you guys found a safe place to stay. Geez, what a way to get acquainted with your new home state. I had no idea Alaska had so much wildfires
  • @ABabyMarshall I think this is out of the norm. At least that’s what I have been told.

We we are headed back towards the fire because they have 1 lane open. I will keep y’all updated when I can and hopefully have some pics to share.
  • I wonder if the long lasting heat wave you guys have had just dried more stuff out than normal. Praying they get it under control!

My random is I just had a cooked sushi roll for lunch as my last hurrah before the GD test tomorrow. I found two large pieces of plastic (like strip of plastic wrap) in two different pieces of rolls. Both were really obvious when i was chewing so I dont THINK I swallowed anything but still, thats gonna create a lot of angst and anxiety for awhile. Sucks because it is a sushi place Ive been going to for YEARS and I trust them and Im sure it was just an oops and if I wasnt pregnant I would probably shrug it off. But ugh. Luckily I go see my OB tomorrow anyway so will have him reassure me and as long as I continue having normal bowel movements I will just assume I either didnt swallow any or if I did it passed. Seriously large chunks. I would have known, right? It looked like plastic wrap that would normally be around the imitation crab meat and maybe didnt all get peeled off.
  • @purplefan1 that sucks but I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think you would have known. How could they not have seen when cutting the rolls though 😳
  • Thanks @ABabyMarshall. Some times I just need your voice of reassurance and reason in my head! Im assuming because their knives are so sharp to cut through the rolls and its consistency is a lot like seaweed.
  • @emeraldcity1214 I have a good friend in I want to say the Anchorage area, and she keeps posting about the fires. How scary! Stay safe and keep us posted.

We were right between two huge fires last summer, and it was terrifying. One wiped out almost an entire town. But I'm in California, we burn every summer no question. Alaska isn't supposed to do that!
  • I hate I haven’t responded to anyone else’s posts the last few days but we go for hours with zero service.

We we ended up getting to the fire today and apparently it had gotten worse and the delay to get through was at minimum 4 hours. So we turned around and went back the way we came and took a back road around the fires. It was a gravel road so it took us almost 5 hours. We saw tons of glaciers though and we saw a bear just randomly come out and cross the road. We got a hotel for the night and plan to drive the rest of the way in tomorrow.

I can’t load any pics right now but I will try to post them tomorrow

@purplefan1 oh no! I hate when stuff like that happens at my favorite restaurants. I'm sure everything is good though!

@emeraldcity1214 Glad you guys found a hotel for the night, hopefully it's an uneventful travel day today!

@creamcheeseplease have a great vacation! Our DD never sleeps well the first night or two then gets settled - hoping this is the case for you guys and your son!
  • @creamcheeseplease have fun on vacay!!

  • @drama_llama Since I am home now and I have phone service, I wanted to come back and respond to your PT post. Resistance is very normal with PT. It doesn’t mean they aren’t ready. It just means they are resisting change. The best, but hardest way (only hard because your giving the child complete control), to get through it is to just give a reminder that pee pee and poop go in the potty and then just walk away. Don’t force them to get on it and try, just give the reminder and walk away.

I have gotten into so many power struggles trying to force one of my kids to sit on the potty and it always ends in tears. I usually lose the battle too.

If he is holding it for that long, he is ready and just needs to get past whatever is making him resistant. I highly recommend the book “Oh Crap.” It has different strategies you can use to tackle different PT situations like these.

Boys are also harder than girls. So even when he does start peeing, be aware, he may pee everywhere except the potty. I had to take DS2’s dump truck away and make it an outside toy. That kid would pee in anything that had a bowl shape.

Another strategy I used with my son was the potty cup. I got a red solo cup and would come up behind hi , pull his pants down (if he was wearing them) and say “pee.” He would usually pee and it kept him from wetting his pants 50 million times a day. He was self initiating BEFORE we started PT so I knew he was ready. He was just being stubborn.

I hope this helps. PT is hard and when you throw daycare into the mix, it’s even harder.

@angieeeeee I feel like I can't do anything quick these days, I'm super impressed you did all of that in 15 minutes!
  • @angieeeeee I am impressed. I don't think I could shower and brush my teeth in that amount of time!
  • Yea I was shocked I managed it. I start a half early anyway so I figured if it really came down to it I would just show up at 6:30 and still not technically be late... But I also wasnt sure how well that would actually work since I've started at 6 every day for the last month. Plus I'm a little behind as it is so it would have screwed everyone else up if I wasn't there to get my stuff done.

  • @emeraldcity1214. Thanks!  We are regrouping and will try again.  It would be easier if we had a backyard I think. Being couped up in our 1-bedroom all weekend makes us all a bit cranky.  I think it is an emotional something that hopefully we can work out.  Will check out the book. Thanks!
  • @angieeeeee way to go!! Especially at this point... I feel like I’m a slow moving tortoise 🐢
  • I agree about "meh" weeks. Today is exciting because I hit 28 weeks, but I know next week I'll just be wishing I was 30w instead of 29w.

Whoever bought the air freshener for the bathroom at work seriously needs to be fired. It smells like a porta-potty in there.
  • 🤮 ugh porta potty smell
  • This is truly a random but since Halloween has started populating my instagram and facebook ads.  Is anyone planning a 'bump worthy' Halloween Costume?
  • @Dancer688 my kid suggested I be a kangaroo for halloween.
  • My son is being batman. I should keep the superhero theme and be fat Thor from this last avengers movie 😂😂

Oooh, I'd love to hear everyone's ideas! I like to do family themed outfits, but I'm not sure about this year. I do need to at least get my DD's picked out and ready in case I have this baby early.
  • If I have the baby early - There is a super cute costume where the baby is the spider in the baby carrier and mom is the web.  But I don't think I'll be dressing up if I am still pregnant.  I will probably try to be asleep :P

My 4 yo is determined to be Moana and my 2 yo will probably be a lady bug or Little Red Riding Hood since those are the 2 costumes I have for her age.  That being said, 2 months is a long time in kid world.  Everything can change before then.
  • DH is going to be one of his favorite basketball players, I’m going to be the basketball haha 😂

    Haha, cute!!
  • So yesterday was my birthday. I had some stuff to do but all in all it was going to be a relaxed day. DH has a work meeting (I didn’t think anything of it). When he came home he told me that the company was downsizing. He only has a job through the second week of October. I’m super stressed and emotional now because 1 the bad news had to come on my birthday of all days and 2 our baby is due just about a month after he will lose his job.

I keep trying to remind myself of the good though. Like he still has a month of work instead of being thrown out that exact day. But it’s hard to focus on that and not on how financially stressed we’re gonna be when the baby comes.
