Re: August Randoms

  • @purplefan1 yeah that is not cool to not let a reg in. My first BMB was similar. I’m not sure how I made it in (I didn’t start posting until late second/early third trimester) but when I got there I didn’t stay very long because it was awful. It was like high school girls picking each other apart. It surprised me too since it was the actual FB group. Several of us started a different FB group and it is still active but not daily or even weekly. Just when big things hit. All those kiddos are starting kindergarten now. 😢

  • @purplefan1 that's awful! I'm sorry that happened to you! My only BMB experience has been positive (and I love that I've shared this experience with @emeraldcity1214 both times 😍), so I hope this one is better for you! I love what you contribute to our board ❤

  • I’m pretty sure this baby is constantly stretching out. I will feel pressure in my pelvis and then I feel like I can’t breathe. So I know he is pushing into my diaphragm. I think the last time this happened in a pregnancy, it was my first. That kid was always in my ribs. To the point I would need to lean back and try to force him on the outside of my rib cage.

Wish th me luck today. PT day 2 😬! She only peed a total of 4 times yesterday, aside from nap, she wet the bed pretty fierce. One pee went straight to the floor (carpet 😑) and the other she got in the potty. I’m kinda excited that she can hold it so long. This means outings won’t be so stressful if I can just time them after she pees. I’m so glad she seems easier because DS2 has been trained for 2 years now and that boy still has accidents. 😒 He is much better but even this week he had one when I was running errands on Thursday.
  • @emeraldcity1214 baby girl does some serious stretching these days too! I sometimes feel her simultaneously near my cervix and up by my belly button at the same time! She mainly likes to dig into my right hip area, its occasionally uncomfortable or strong enough to surprise me.

  • @emeraldcity1214 I'm enjoying reading your PT updates! I welcome any tips/advice. We tried the three-day bootcamp with DD a couple months ago and failed. Partly because I think she wasn't ready (in two days she never caught on to recognizing the urge to pee, so it was just constant accidents or me running her to the potty), but also partly because my MIL watched her on days 3 and 4 and just put her back in diapers, so all our progress was lost. I want to try again soon, maybe Labor Day weekend. She loves wearing underwear and tells us "No diapers!" all the time.

I was also wondering about the night training. Our pediatrician told us to do it all at once and get rid of diapers completely so there is no confusion. But it seems like a lot! My goal is to at least have her day trained by November.
  • Our pediatrician said to use something different to distinguish night time diapers but not to worry about doing night training at the same time as day training. They said developmentally it is easier for kids to master day time dryness but the night time dryness is often out of their control and just needs their bladder to grow more. We stopped day time diapers cold turkey November 1st and I want to say it took about 4-5 months for her to be consistently not having accidents during the day. We kept night time diapers but they were different from the ones she used during the day. When she started having dry diapers all night and would get up and ask to use the potty at night, thats when we ditched the night time diapers and she has only had one night accident in the three weeks she has been diaper free. We also take her potty pne more time before we go to bed (around 1030 or 11) and I think that has helped as well.
  • @kj17-2 I have tried doing day and night and the stress is just way too much. Honestly, I’m hoping she just magically stops peeing at night and I don’t have to do any of the work. That’s how DD1 was. I need to suck it up and night train DS2. He is ready but that boy just pees a ton all the time.

I also think when they have to go back to daycare it makes it harder. I SAH so I can just spend however many days we need to getting it down. This has been the least stressful kid to train too. Usually I’m pulling my hair out and need some kind of sedation by the end of the day. 😬 They say there is a sweet spot and if you catch it, they train fast and easy. I’m just hoping our upcoming trips don’t set us back too much. I plan to put a pull-up on her I’m the car because I am way too pregnant to be dealing with wet car seats.

My method of PT is from the book “Oh Crap.” It’s an awesome book and very motivating. I highly recommend it. It has a trouble shooting section too for when they are resisting or holding it for too long.
  • @purplefan1 @emeraldcity1214 Thanks for the advice! I know how exhausting PT is, so I think keeping pull-ups on at night and not doing it all at once would help my sanity. I'll also check out that book before I try again.
  • Highlight of my evening....

DS2 stuck a small ball of play dough in his ear and then proceeded to shove it in as far as he could push it. I’m pretty sure it is resting next to his tympanic membrane. So I gave him Tylenol, for no reason other than to make him feel like I did something to help him 🤦🏻‍♀️. Called DH who said he would scrape it out when he got home. Then put the poor kid to bed. Ugh, this is a first for me. I was ready to drive him to the ER for DH to scrape it out there.
  • @emeraldcity1214 yikes!! Hope everything comes out ok and he didn't damage anything
  • @ABabyMarshall I was awake at 3 am worrying about that playdough hardening in his his ear. DH assured me he can soften it back up. He is up and playing right now and seems fine. DH didn’t get in bed until 5 am so he will handle it when he wakes around noon. This is so stressful though. I just want it out.
  • @purplefan1 - That sucks!   I don't want this board to turn into a ghost town until after the babies.  I know that I relied on my BMB 5 years ago for signs of pregnancy and support even though I didn't post at all up until like the 9th month and I would hate for us not to be there for someone who just didn't have time to post or wasn't around because they felt it was too much of a club.
  • Honestly, I feel like if a lurker hasn’t started participating by now, the likelihood of it happening is slim. We have even done things to encourage the lurkers to participate.
  • @emeraldcity1214 I hope your H got the play dough out! Ugh how stressful.

I feel like like a few years ago it was the norm here for the BMB not to move until after or around the time the babies were born and now it seems to be that most move over to PG around 3rd tri. It is interesting because the boards really do seem to go dead.
  • I just bought the baby’s sleepy time “lovie.” It is a sleepy koala bear that I had personalized with his name on the front. I’m excited but I also hope DH doesn’t decide he likes Luke better than Lucas.
  • Fun fact about playdough that gets stuck inside an ear. Your body heat will keep it from hardening and then it just oozes out. So basically, you have to irrigate the ear to clean it out.
  • I'm glad it was such a "easy" solution @emeraldcity1214! Of course, next time the easiest option is to play with it like it was meant to be 😂

  • @emeraldcity1214 thanks for the play dough oozing facts 😝 I’m glad it came out!

Im happy to see the majority of everyone waits to night train separately from day training.  We did the “Oh Crap” method last November when my son was just over 2 and it worked like a charm.  He still wears a diaper for nap and nighttime with random dry nights and like 50% dry naps, so I know he’s not ready yet.  Do you think it’ll just start happening by age 4? 3.5?  I really don’t want to get into officially night training and waking him up through the night.  He’s a chatterbox and I know he will want to party if we go that route!

I’ve been MIA this weekend since my grandmother is home from Florida for a few weeks.  We celebrated her 87th birthday last night and it was great to see her.  She hasn’t seen any of us since Christmas so she was excited to play with the kids!  Anyways, I agree with he PG convos!

Now I’m off to figure out dinner for myself, my husband is working and my son’s asleep.  I don’t think the loaf of banana bread I made earlier is the best choice...

@rogro118 I think night training seems to have a wider range than day training in terms of age. DS is 3 (4 in Oct) and has been in underwear for naps for like a year.

He recently has been begging to wear underwear to bed at night. I'm not up for waking him up at night to pee if hes not ready because like your son, going back to sleep if I'm there will be a struggle! But he can easily go to the bathroom on his own in the middle of the night and go back to sleep. Hes old enough to understand and is motivated by a sticker chart at the moment, so we made one last week and every morning he has a dry pull up he gets a sticker. If he can go 1 whole week dry, I told him he can wear underwear finally. I'm following his lead here and hoping that'll make it easier on all of us!

  • @emeraldcity1214 that's super useful to know about the playdoh! Glad to hear it wasn't bad getting it out though. I would have been up worrying about it too.

@rogro118 banana bread seems like the perfect meal to me! I had a HUGE slice of cake today...wish I bought more though!

  • @rogro118 I ditch diapers for naps from day 1. She stayed dry day 2 and wet the bed bad on day 1 and I’m pretty sure it was at the tail end of nap today when she wet the bed. DS2 still wets the bed roughly 40% of the time during naps. 🤷🏻‍♀️ He just can’t hold it and I think he sleeps really deep. I think when we get back from Hawaii, I may try to night train him.

Today, she finally pooped. Poor girl held out for 2.5 days. I was getting worried that I would need to intervene but I knew it was there and eventually she wouldn’t be able to hold it anymore. We also went on our first outing today. We got ice cream and she stayed dry! We spent about 20 minutes in the van afterwards waiting for her to pee but that is the typical for my newly training kiddos.

@mc0303 DH took his otoscope and flushed it with a bulb. Poor guy did pretty good but eventually started crying. It had irritated his ear canal a lot. He is also going to flush it with something else tonight and get some antibiotic drops to make sure his ear stays clear of any infection. The stuff that was flushed out was sooo disgusting. And he very much on board with not putting anything else in his ears.
  • @emeraldcity1214 awww, poor thing!! 😥 at least he’s game for not putting things in his ear again. I can’t imagine how deep in there it got. It hurts just thinking about.
  • I also approve of banana bread as dinner. I've done that a time or two before!

@emeraldcity1214 I can’t believe he got play doh in his ear! That sounds so uncomfortable, but I’m glad y’all got it out!

We moved DD to a big girl bed on Friday and that first night was rough. I was about ready to put her back in her crib 😂 but last night went well so I’m hoping this sticks. Then on to PT in September (I think she’s ready, we’ll see). So I’ve really appreciated following along with everyone’s tips!

Also @rogro118 I had cereal for two meals today, so I think banana bread sounds like a perfectly fine meal haha
  • I’m glad everyone doesn’t mind the PT updates. It’s basically my life right now so I have a lot to say about it. 😂

  • I don’t mind the PT takeover! It’s nice to see everyone’s different experiences... number of kids, ages, living situations. Plus, repetition for maximum retention for those of us who will be PT before we know it!
  • Hey ladies. Sorry for not being around as much lately. The past month has been insane with my IL's up visiting for three weeks (I'm shocked I survived having them up for that long). It took all last week to get DD back on her regular routine after their visit. Now that things are back to normal, I will be posting more regularly.  :)

Also, please continue with the PT take over. I plan on starting PT with DD next month and would love to hear more about what's working or not working for everyone.

  • @emeraldcity1214 - Do you homeschool?  I have so many questions if you do.  I do light preschool with my girls but I am at a loss at how to get myself into a routine and how to teach concepts more advanced then letters and numbers.  My almost 4 year old is showing interest in reading and I want to help foster it but I don't know how.

I have a truly random question: for those of you that have pumped for two or more pregnancies - did you find that you used the same size of breast shields each time? Or is this something that can change from pregnancy to pregnancy? I wanted to stock up on pump part supplies, but was wondering if I would potentially be ordering the wrong size.
  • Hey ladies. I get on about every week and read up on what is going on in everyone’s lives, however, I haven’t been able to post or reply for some reason cause the Bump wouldn’t let me. I just recently tried posting again and it looks like I can post now. Yay!

Does anyone else get guilt tripped by parents that may not live close? Recently my mom took a new job and won’t be able to get time off to come visit when baby is born. She keeps acting like it’s my fault though because I don’t live near by. Don’t really know how to handle it honestly.
  • @Dancer688 I do! And we love it! I started when my oldest was in the 4th grade. He wasn’t reading and was backsliding with his IEP. So I decided it was time to try something different. Now, I plan to homeschool the rest of my kids as well. I have lots of resources so feel free to PM and I will share all the things that have worked for me.

@emmac99 Welcome back. I haven’t lived near family in 6 or more years. I would just gently change the conversation or if it bothers you too much, say something about it and set a boundary. Boundaries are your friend!
  • Now that I have trained 2 girls and 2 boys, I think boys are sooooo much harder.
  • @emeraldcity1214 congrats on the PT success!!
  • @emeraldcity1214 congratulations on the successful PT! I can't speak on any experience with girls but my son definitely gave us a hard time. He was a few months shy of 4 (!!!) before we got him potty trained. We tried incentive charts, going diaperless, cool big boy undies..nothing worked. One day he just decided and that was that, he's had maybe 3 accidents ever. It seems like he knew what to do all along but it needed to be on his own terms lol he was like that with nearly all milestones though
  • @emeraldcity1214 hooray for your daughter!

@emmac99 I would probably just let your mom know her comments are bothering you if they are. She may not realize what she's saying is upsetting you.

I had a productive day yesterday, so that was good. I didn't finish everything though. I have some more work to do today so I'm going to get to it in a few!
  • @emmac99 - My MIL gives us this guilt trip all the time.  I know she blames me too since we moved (from where they were about 2 hours away and the closest relative) to now they are 4 hours away and we are by all my family.

Honestly, it still bothers me that she is upset because even being 4 hours away.  Of all 4 of her children we are still the closest so :roll eyes:  At some point I may just say if you don't want to be so far away then move closer.  We have to do what is best for our children which happened to be where I grew up so I would stay sane.

@emeraldcity1214 - I'll definitely PM you about homeschooling at some point in the future.  I am taking a me week and trying to figure out how to mitigate some symptoms.  So tired this week.

I had so many nightmares last night. I dreamed if you ate a particular food that all these people would turn into zombie creatures and start attacking you. It was so weird and freaky. Very vivid too which doesn’t help.
