I saw the comments about some of the weekly check in groups being quiet, and I saw in another month group they were doing group wide GTKY posts, so I thought this might be fun? Maybe not on Weds b/c of HDBD but I felt like getting the ball rolling
- Who has any? How many? Planning on more?
- What do you have? Meaning behind it?
- If you don't have one, what would you get if you got one?
Re: GTKY - Tattoo Edition
My mom reads rune cards (which are similar to Tarot) so when I was 21 I got a rune symbol called Dagaz on my upper back. It's a little stylized but essentially this:
It's all about cycles, and progress. Though it often gets mistaken for a wonky infinity symbol.
My mom was a bit of an 80's rocker chic and we have always been best friends not just mom/daughter. So my 16th birthday present from her was my first tattoo. The idea was a balanced universe to keep me balanced through life. It's a half moon, the sun, stars and sweeping lights. I still love it more than any other gift I've ever been given and it's on my right foot.
I got my second tattoo when I was 19 on my wrist and inner lower forearm. It's a purple filigree cross I got around the same time I got baptized.
I always want a new tattoo but being a grown adult means there was always something more important to spend my money on lol. Neither of mine hurt too bad but I was also a teenager with both and my skin had a lot more elasticity. I hear it gets more and more painful as you age. I do plan on getting a tattoo for my daughter sometime after she is born and I'm done breastfeeding. But I have no idea what or where it will be yet.
Second on my ankle also has religious connotations, got it at age 27. It's a sun, but it's my personal symbol for "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Got a sun to symbolize it because sun is a play on the word Son (Jesus), who is "The word made flesh" (and now in my flesh), and it's on my foot because He's guiding my path. And the sun is the brightest form of light on Earth for us.
I've toyed with the idea of getting an anchor for a couple reasons--my husband is Navy, but there's also that "hope is the anchor for the soul" verse. But, haven't made a decision. Not sure where I'd put it, and honestly, it hasn't been as pressing in my mind as other two were. Maybe in a couple years, but it's not high priority right now.
I've thought about getting one symbolizing the kids after this one is born, I have a few ideas but nothing I'm super in love with yet.
• I have two. I got my first at 17 and when my parents found out my mother threatened to call the police on the studio and my dad called me white trash 😂
• The first is a flower on my right hip bone. My second it on the side of my foot and says just breathe. Honestly they weren’t well thought out. They’re not horrible and I do want more but would like to get these covered or incorporated into something else first.
So basically the week I finally got off theirs and onto my own, I scheduled my tattoo appointment. She was less than thrilled.
I do love looking at other people's tattoos and hearing the stories behind them. I always find it fascinating what a "simple" symbol can mean to so many different people.
I tried for a or a belly button piercing in college, but my body never healed around it and now I just have a stupid scar 😛. I’d like to do a tattoo if my husband could design me something amazing- maybe a yoga or Hawaiian theme?
I have another bigger piece planned but haven’t done it yet. It’s two butterflies the body of each are a different awareness ribbon. One is green (CP for my niece) and one is pink and blue (infant loss for my other niece and our two losses).
Like this but the second in pink and blue (and no border)

I love everyones tattoos and the stories behind them.
I only have one, I hate it and I am so glad that I got it ibelow my underwear line (which my hubby makes fun of me because apparently I must have had to have my pants pulled pretty low for it. But it is a crown (for my sorority @anniemarie887 I am that girl lol) and I dont regret it, since you cant see if I dont even really care.
I would like another, I would like this (pic below) for my boys and the 3 miscarriages I have suffered.

Even tho they all have a particular story I'll just share my favorites! I have gotten many of the course of different points on my life and a lot from the military.
So first in my collage is my underwater anchor girl, I was in the Marines and my brother is in the Navy and we both did boat deployments(just never together) he has a male version of the same thing and it's our way of saying we will be connected across any seas.
My next one is snowflakes on my lower arm with my first daughter's name, hailee Rhea. She was born in December and at the time I thought my only child.
My sunflower is my newest for my second daughter Lillian Marie. Already at a young age she is a wild free spirit, stubborn and aggressive.
And the owls represent my husband and I. Some say it's bad luck to get matching but I know I will be with the man forever. Til death do us part. The owls are a little goofy to represent how our relationship works. We both are alpha personalities but softies with each other.
I plan to keep adding as I have a lot of skin, yet none planned at the moment.
Since some added piercings in here... I used to have my belly, nose and a 4 point trident through my ear when I was younger. Being almost thirty I have slowly taken them all out and got away from that phase in my life. No judgement on anyone else, just doesn't tickle my fancy anymore. I love the unique art of tattoos though and how they have been evolving!
@lilyrheas your tattoos are AMAZING. i love the forest and owls! i also had some piercings, the only ones i keep up with are the handful in my ears. the hole from my belly button has never closed and its starting to look a little off as things are stretching!
@klmcguire I love the simplicity of the tattoo photo you posted. It has a beautiful meaning and the placement would be really elegant.
@anniemarie887 I was in Zeta Tau Alpha (I have a small crown) lol
my important ones.
My kids initials ZAC and MAC on my wrist
yes my oldest is Zac my other son is Max I made their initials spell there names almost.
My first tattoo of a butterfly lower back.. was apart of that underage early 2000’s trend..
Yosemite Sam On the back of my arm above my elbow for my dad it was his first tattoo and my way of knowing he’s always got my back.
An arrow for my sign Sagittarius down my wrist which my left arm is a half sleeve of Mandela’s, death moths and vines and flowers.
I have a stormy umbrella which has a meaning of family protector.
Seashells because we love the ocean and protecting it.
And my latest is matching wedding bands with my husband it is a tiny wave with a snowflake under it. Because he’s from the ocean and I’m from the north and I have been his snowflake forever.
And a whole mess on non meaning and tiny meaning tattoos. 😊 excited to add our newest son Archer’s next!
I was more into piercings when I was younger, and like others may or may not have sought out places very relaxed with checking ID’s.
I don't have any but have thought of getting pretty much the same thing for about ten years. I'd like a line drawing of an iris with some ivy with the Latin phrase "flourishing in sun and shade" - it's a family motto from my mom's side of the family that a cousin of mine already has. We talked about all the cousins getting it at one point but no one else has. The line drawings of the plants represent family members and also my love of flowers/nature. Id like to get it probably on my ribcage.
I don't have any piercings other than my ears but I did in a rebellious teenage phase pierce the web of my tongue (no, it didn't hurt) and had that for about a year and a half.
I don't have any, but I have wanted the same tattoo, for the same reason, since I was 15. I always told myself that if I still wanted it when I was 30, I could get it. I turned 30 this past February, started making loose plans to travel to see my best friend (who has several tattoos already) so we could get one together, and lo and behold, in March I find out I'm pregnant! So I am still planning on getting my tattoo, it'll just have to be when it's safe to do so, lol.
I'd like to get a chambered nautilus shell tattoo, likely on the inside of my wrist (though I keep toying with the idea of where to get it). It's for my favorite band, Nine Inch Nails, since I've loved them literally my whole life, and it's the same imagery as is used for my favorite album. Plus I just love the symbolism of a chambered nautilus, and love the poem of the same name by Oliver Wendell Holmes.
Something like this...
Husband is a tattoo junkie I honestly don't know how many he has total but no more these days, too expensive.
