Yes, I would say so. When I got pregnant with DS2, DH asked if he should go ahead and schedule it. I told him not to because I wasn’t sure if we’d be done. This time, we’re both 100% done

@junebabyh oof! That’s what happened to me the first time DS1 had it and DH the second time around (there’s multiple strands). The physician who diagnosed DH with it said that most adults are asymptomatic when we catch it (90%ish are asymptomatic). He actually told DH he was the oldest patient with it he’d ever seen
With DD1 when she got it it was like one dot on her finger and, yes, a couple of sores in her mouth. With DD2 the red dots were on the cheeks, not in between them. Like where a diaper would rub on sweaty skin (not like we haven't hat 90°F temps all week)... Still salty about it one day later but slowly coming around to seeing it like a rational person.

SO got it from DD1 when she had it - he thought he could power through and ended up almost fainting at work and having to take a week off. His whole upper body was covered in red bumps. When he went to the Dr they wanted to do a STD panel. SO was totally offended, I thought it was funny.

  • Oh @cmbt2 I'm so sorry! I can't fully put myself in your shoes but I've been having similar troubles with my DS despite him being younger. Our daycare does have a policy that if the child has behavioral issues they will send home and not let the child return until amended. DS is just under 2, and I'm possibly just a worry wort, but he's been showing what I think are (let's say) orange flags for being on the spectrum. One or two of which they have recently warned me they may have to send him home for. He doesn't talk yet and I'm hoping it's just that communication frustration that's causing some of the issue, but regardless it's so hard to feel so out of control in being able to rectify what's going on, especially when I can't be there to oversee it. Sending hugs in working through this with DS, and if medication is necessary I hope you're able to feel comfortable with the fact he's getting what's needed at this time. Perhaps eventually he will be able to ween from it as his anxiety gets more controllable.

@cooaladolly thanks, it’s rough going. I’m lucky that my boss gets it (his daughter put them through the ringer, too) and understands when I run into his office and just tell him I have to go. I‘m having no luck getting the psychologists to call me back, and our pediatrician wants me to call next week with an update include who we’re seeing and when we’re going

If you don’t mind sharing, what flags are you seeing? DS1 had flags, but not the traditional ones. His biggest thing was being nonverbal and lashing out with hitting. Every autism “screen” given to him at the pediatrician he passed no issue.

  • @cmbt2 I hope the meds help! My 4.5 year old is starting therapy on the 11th, finally. She gets really bad anxiety and it's getting worse. Too long to post here really but, I'm sorry you're having to deal with that.

We got all packed up for the zoo today to meet friends...halfway there I pulled over and checked our membership because I started thinking it was close to expiring...June 30th  :'(  We had to make other plans. DH was let go 2 months ago and as much as we use the zoo $155 just wasn't happening today.

  • @cmbt2 sorry to hear about how difficult everything is. I'm not sure what state you are in, but the school should also be providing services or offering a more therapeutic environment if the current one isn't working. I've taken on a few cases like that in MA pro bono, though admittedly MA provides more statutory protections for students than most States

He’s on a two week break from his integrated program. He got approved for summer, which starts Monday. He gets 22.5 hours a week of special ed in the program plus speech, OT, and PT. Daycare is doing what they can, but they’re not equipped to handle kids when they cross into the “major injury of another” or “throwing furniture” category. Unfortunately, DS1 is heading headfirst into the injury category right now. We had an agreement with them that they’d send him home when he started spiraling to try to avoid crossing this line. I don’t know how we’ll find another to take him and one that will bus him for his program

It's interesting you say that because that's exactly how DS is, and SO and I even got into a discussion/argument about it tonight because he always wants to assure me everything is fine, and probably/hopefully it is. He's still so young but what I've noticed is: he started super early (6 months) with some compulsory behavior such as sorting things by color or pattern. At first I thought, wow he's just super smart. An evolution of that would be, he's not so sensitive that he has to separate his food, but when I wipe his hands and face, which he can't stand, he has to take the rag and put it just so on his tray when finished. Around a year is when he started his temper tantrums, and although we're lucky they're usually short or resolved somewhat quickly, they're quite violent, slamming his head back into things or forward into the floor so he has to be put into a safe place when he throws them. He also slowly after that started with throwing things and hitting in his tantrums. The other night when he had a meltdown he violently threw his bottle out of the crib, followed by his binkie, 2 stuffed animals and his safety blanket and would not be consoled until he was left alone for 5 minutes with a certain song we play for him from another room (lol, Eurythmics Sweet Dreams) so he knows we're still there. Then I was able to go in and he let me hold him again and he was able to communicate by pointing that he didn't want the fan on (seemingly sensory sensitivity?) Although he is the youngest toddler of that class in daycare, they've told me that the other toddlers have become afraid of him. Don't know why, but he has hulk-like strength and he hasn't learned sharing yet, so although he gets along with the other children mostly ok, if he wants something he takes it by brute force. They're giving us some time to work on the tantrums and sharing because he's still so young, but they're like "yeah, he's in separation a lot lately." But personally I'm concerned (and they are too) that it's only a matter of time before he hurts one of them or himself if we can't get it more under control. What I've noticed is it seems to often be caused by change in routine, change in teacher rotation, change in himself, that he lashes out the most. One of the recent markers I noticed is that he walks often and for long periods of time on the balls of his feet, though lol, so does his father. Only recently looked that one up, and though like so many hundreds of things, could point to autism but could also just be a weird genetic thing. As you mentioned for YS, he passed all of the main red flags in the beginning, he smiled early, giggles a lot, responds to his name, and passed all of the doctor simple screens. Yet another early odd thing for me was his learning focus. When he's introduced to something new he has this weird intense super focus. When people would see him like that they thought he was angry or upset. I learned early on it was just his way of absorbing what was going on around him, and he wouldn't try to do that thing himself until he knew he could do it right or fully understood it. He also has an oral fixation with his binkie that we're really struggling to break because I think it's hindering his speech. He can go for a while without it now but when he realizes he is missing it he flips out and won't stop playing with his lips/mouth, like when you put a finger to your lips and flap them, though he does it with the whole hand. These "orange" flags are more just a mother's intuition and fear than anything we have documented on the books as yet, but they just seem to be accumulating more than I would like. It's probably another year off before I can get him a true screening if he's still showing some of these signs but it makes me watchful. I'm so sorry this was so long! I'm curious myself, when did you know for sure YS had aspergers?

ETA: spoiler due to length. But also again so sorry that he's progressing to that point.

@cooaladolly I started to suspect around age 3, drew the probable conclusion myself a few months later, and he got diagnosed a couple months after that. I had it narrowed down to either ASD or SPD.

    the long story...
ever since birth, he got overstimulated by bright lights. Like, at a week old, he was extremely overstimulated by a flashing camera (long story on MIL for this this one). At 6 months, he couldn’t no longer go into an elevator. I linked this to a traumatic pediatrician visit at first (nurse was brutal giving shots), thinking he associated the lights with that, but it still is this way.

At 9 months we sent him into daycare. He screamed at drop off for 15 months. Over a year it was like this every freaking morning; he refused to adapt. Any time he has to move rooms, he struggles for weeks. they can’t even change drop off rooms with him.

At age 2, he was nonverbal. The pedi asked about speech, and I told him he wasn’t really talking and preferred to use his hands. We got him evaluated for EI, and while he was delayed in speech and social, they didn’t qualify him.

We’re talking about a kid who’s a perfectionist- he wouldn’t try to roll until one day he did it. He refused to practice walking until the day he stood up and walked across the room. My idiot ILs kept assuring us that he’ll just be like my BIL, who was silent until he spoke sentences, and DH believed it.

In October that year (8ish months later), I got a report from daycare that DS1 randomly pulled another kid from a chair at lunch, pushed him to the ground, and started hitting him. We have a local program that does developmental screens on kids that they were bringing in the following week, and we had already signed him up because there was no change to his use of words all these months. She left a note to call her because DS1 had difficulty. It was her who told me that, despite being a few months shy of age 3, we could try going through the preschool special ed done by the school district. I called the next day. He came in severely delayed in social behaviors and speech. Right before his 3rd birthday, he started 2x a week with speech and a travel special ed teacher. At the meeting to make it offficial, the school suggested an eval, but I was reluctant.

Mid March 2018, his SEIT called me and said she thinks he needs an integrated program and would I mind if she got us some info on them. Late April, the speech therapist calls and mentions that DS1 is always putting things in his mouth and chewing, and she asked if I would mind if she recommended an OT eval. I called the school district the next day to get that one going and called the pedi for a referral for a developmental pediatrician. It was then I started googling. His SEIT told me when I got his annual report she suspected aspergers. I dug more into it and drew a similar conclusion.

In all honesty, if DH and I were to be tested, I suspect they’d find we have it, too. He has A LOT of nuances that are the same as ours and a lot of the same behaviors we do. It’s part of the reason we put off calling. We saw a lot of similarities and just figured he takes after us 🤷🏼‍♀️

Edit- I’m dumb and actually used
    his name 🤦🏼‍♀️

  • @cmbt2 keeping positive vibes for you💕

We bought a crib off a Facebook group last night. It's a crib/changer like I wanted and even has an extra little roller drawer on the side! Bonus 😂 unfortunately, we had to take it apart to get it up stairs and one of the screws was stripped so when we tried to put it back in, it cracked the front side a little. It's not unusable though, so I'm not super upset lol

  • @cmbt2 I'm impressed that with all that typing you only made the mistake once! But I will say, you kid has a very nice name; I'd name my kid Rockstar Jones any day! 😉

  • My day is not playing out as planned. Less than an hour after I got to work, daycare called to say that DS has a rash on his legs and torso and is not permitted back to daycare until he sees a doctor.

His pediatrician is booked until Monday at the earliest so I am now sitting in emergency with him to avoid missing multiple days from work. I admit I’m a bit annoyed and am pretty sure that it’s a mild heat rash and absolutely nothing.

To add to it, I’m hungry! 😭

  • Thanks @cheznet but I don’t live in the US so it’s not a big deal work-wise! Happy 4th of July to you all though :)
  • H and I didn't make plans in time for the 4th, so we just hiked a trail in our neighborhood and since then I've been alternating between reading 1984 (for the first time!) and napping. I can't get more than a few pages before it's hard to keep my eyes open! Will look for fireworks later...
  • @cmbt2 huge hugs mama! We are just starting the testing for Aspergers, Anxiety, ADD, and SPD with DD1. I’ve known something was different about her since she was about 9 months old but she “seems fine” to most people so the doctors have put off official testing. I hit my limit this year when she came home hating kindergarten, lost her confidence, having meltdowns became a regular occurrence, and she began getting violent. I think they all thought I was over reacting until I kept pushing the issue and got a good care manager who got to see her on a bad day.

This is one of my main concerns with DS, and similarly my SO and his family don't want to look at it as any kind of warning sign. Again, with him being so young, I want to hope they're right and not jump the gun. We are lucky that DS does have some words, but he's also regressed slightly once before, and I'm working towards that hopefully not happening again.

Funny you say that because it's another likelihood for us. At least in SO's case, he's a tad more like DS, like I mentioned with the toe walking early in life and still now, and I love him dearly but he just cannot relate to people or get social cues to quit pushing on people sometimes in conversation. I'm almost opposite (I read people very well and use it to my advantage to get what I want) but with my own mental health issues for example depression, anxiety, and being diagnosed early with NPD. Personally I've always disagreed with the diagnosis but 🤷‍♀️. Either way, I think the both of us just learned in life coping skills and how to work around the health issues so they aren't as prevalent or noticeable. Regardless I'm sure we've passed down some mental issues somewhere along the way and can only hope that maybe he'll learn to cope and work around them in his own way.

@cmbt2 all I can say is you are an amazing champion for your son and if only everyone would work so hard at making sure their child was assessed and cared for at that level, we would have less people struggling later in life. Just another note to you as well, one of my favorite daycare teachers had recently revealed that she had/has asperger's. I never ever would have guessed as she's beautiful, talented, smart, social and well adjusted. She was a dancer and I have to wonder if that wasn't very helpful to her as her coping mechanism. But my point being that although it may not be curable, it's definitely something that can be kept at bay with the hard work and early intervention such as what you are doing. It's a long and stressful road but know that you are navigating it so well.
ETA: and thank you for being so open and sharing! It really helps in putting things in perspective. We aren't at the point yet where I'm ready to have him looked at or assessed, and can only hope that he's just a somewhat aggressive or strong-willed toddler. But reading the warning signs that you noticed along the way is so helpful.

  • Oh and @cmbt2, hope you're not hurting too much after all that planting but hoorah for a completed yard!
@geminigirl16 sorry DS is under the weather. Hoping that it is only a heat rash. It's such a pain when daycare gets over reactive.
@alinic916 that sounds like a rough night. If it makes you feel any better, I'll be at work at 5:30 tomorrow, and Saturday too. It's a rough schedule to have especially in the summer when you need to be in bed before it's dark. (As you can see, I'm still not good at getting to bed when I should.)
    @ineedsixeggs dude, I'm impressed!
@sweetteaandswingsmama I'm so sorry you're also struggling with having to get a diagnosis for YD. I hope that it does help though and she's able to feel better about herself in the long run. Hugs and good luck to you too!

  • **TW**

i am on vacation in rural California w my family. 23+6 today. Went to the bathroom this afternoon and noticed a substantial streak of blood. I have been spotting dark brown blood - enough to fill a pantiliner the rest of the day. I was told earlier on I had placenta previa but at my 20 week appt the dr said it had moved. I previously had a much less substantial bleed at 15 weeks (also in California, omg I need to stop flying here) and it was chalked up to placenta previa.

I walked all all over hills yesterday and was way more active than normal, and the blood is all dark and doesn’t look bright red.  I am praying in my heart this is placenta previa again. Also I should mention I am not anywhere near a proper ER. I have a regularly scheduled ultrasound back at home on Tuesday. I just don’t know what to do and I’m so scared. Planning to keep my feet up tonight and see if the bleeding stops.will try to find an ER somewhere tomorrow if it hasn’t.

i did feel the baby move earlier today but now of course I’m thinking i just imagined it. Sorry for the long post my head is spinning.

Oh no! FX FX FX it's just you being more active than usual. Is there anywhere you can go before going back home? Can you call your nurses line anyway?

  • @obsessedwithoranges Thinking of you and hoping so hard that all is well. Calling your nurses line is a good idea.

  • @obsessedwithoranges I’m so sorry you’re dealing with that!  Can you go into town today so that you can be checked out?  I hope you’re able to get some reassurance!
