I wanted to give whomever was setting off fireworks at 9:30p last night a piece of my mind. Fireworks are only acceptable on the 4th and NYE. Other than that, I do not want to hear them or see them. I’m annoyed that they are no longer illegal in my state. 😪Perhaps this belongs in the confession thread...
What a weekend!! Had the best beach day with DD on Friday, which was awesome because it was the first time she really enjoyed the beach— we were there for like 5 hours and I couldn’t get her to leave!
Then Saturday we had some crazy thunderstorms, and at one point I heard a weird electrical sound, then a clap of thunder so loud it felt like the house was breaking in half, and then the sound of something breaking. After many walks around the house looking for what I thought was prob a burst lightbulb or something, we realized that the thunder/lightning had thrown one of DDs pictures off the wall into her crib! She wasn’t in it thank goodness. Then eventually realized our modem got completely fried, which must have been the electrical sound.
So I’m pretty sure we got hit by lightning, or at least a surge from a really close strike? It was so weird!!! And we’ve been without WiFi since then so our new modem is hopefully arriving today. Whew!
@cmbt2, I'm with you. I'm such a scrooge about fireworks, and I HATE when individuals set them off. I actually love fireworks displays but think they are better left to the professionals. Just go to the park to see them! First, it's illegal to set them off inside our town limits anyway. Second, they scare my dog. Third, it's only ever the idiot neighbor who has been drinking all day long who sets them off. So if he could please not burn my house down, I'd super appreciate it. 🙄
+1 to hating individual fireworks. I have a BIL who I love but is basically a big child. 🙄 We are spending the 4th with him this year and ugh..., expecting a pop pop pop to go off in the middle of night and wake up/scare my kids for sure! Birthdays are officially over in our house until October (H, DS1, me and DS2 are all back to back between beginning of May and end of June with mother’s and Father’s Day thrown in the middle). DS2 had a teeny bday party this weekend complete with an awesome Cookie Monster cake!
Monday confession: I started working for my parents company recently to help them out with all of the extra work they have going on only to find out that my mom has been making things 100x more complicated than necessary for the last 20 years. I’ve set up some great systems that have cut her work load way back. Normally this is great except now I get an entire 7-8 hours of work done in 1.5 maybe 2 hours if I’m stretching it so I get to sit in the office and screw around for the rest of the day. I appreciate the down time but it’s so boring waiting for an email with more work that may or may not come.
I’m also frustrated that this weekend DH was less productive than I had hoped. I could be catching up on stuff at the house today while my kids are at daycare but instead I’m here finished with work pinning ways to make our camper look nicer and how to make the small space more efficient.
@SLou24 oh wow! That’s so scary! I’m glad your house didn’t catch on fire!!
2 of our dogs couldn’t care less about fireworks but my little dog hates them. This year we are going to give him some CBD dog treats to help him be more comfortable. 🤞🏼 That it works!
I get six whole days off of work and then only work a half day this coming Sunday so we can go to the parade/carnival/fireworks in town. I'm so happy🤣 doesn't mean anything extra is gonna get done but this last weekend team lead had me in a few positions that require lots of movement and let's say my Fitbit team is happy but my hips are not! Today is laundry and resting. I think we're gonna take DS to see a movie on Wednesday, it'll be his first ever. His Bday is next Monday, so we wanted to go to the zoo this week or next but this rain is ridiculous. Since I have Saturday off, were were go to the big opening of the splash pad park in my hometown. And then his birthday party is there the weekend after. Busy weeks coming up!! Maybe try to go to the drive in on Friday if the weather is nice!
I love doing fireworks. SO used to live in the country and so do my aunt and uncle so I grew up with fireworks every year and now we do them with friends that live outside of town. But I do hate when people set them off IN town. That's dumb. And dangerous when next to other houses!
I agree regarding fireworks! Mostly because of how much they scare people's pups, that just breaks my heart. I love a good professional display but the individual ones seem unnecessary.
I am exhausted today. DH had his annual summer soccer camp that he runs at the university where he coaches. This means I had a house full of soccer coaches who come to town to work the camp and stay with us. They really aren't that much work for me, but they are noisy and messy and I am just less in the mood for a houseful of people this year for some strange reason...
Looking forward to a short week this week - the 4th is my birthday so I am off starting at Noon on Wednesday and driving up to Iowa to visit my family. It will be a long lazy weekend of lounging by the pool, playing yard games, grilling out, and playing with my nephews. Can't wait!!
I agree haaaaaate fireworks outside of the town/public ones! Even before having kids I found them annoying, but now especially with a toddler who's not a great sleeper, the idiots who set them off around the neighborhood until like midnight are THE WORST.
Yep, private fireworks upset me too. My neighbors do it every year. The year DS was born I called the cops because I literally thought the house across the street was on fire. I'll call on them again this year because I have a vendetta due to their dogs......
Anyway.... I'm gonna be really absent today. We had insane storms yesterday and apparently a lightning strike screwed up our internet and we are back and fourth with connection. It's a great time for that.....1st of the month. Anyone else in/ever in accounting understands my pain here..... I'm behind but can't stay connected long enough to accomplish 1 full task.
@SLou24 yikes that’s frightening, glad everything is okay. @cmbt2 add me to the not a fan of fireworks camp @junebabyh cute cake! @jenferlee82 Happy Birthday!!
I honestly don't have an opinion one way or another on fireworks in neighborhoods, but I think that's going to change now that I live - for the first time this year - in an actual subdivision. My dog is pretty patient with them, but I know loud noises have started bothering him more than usual, so I'll need to drug him and give him his booyah (like a Kong, but he prefers it so much more) to keep him distracted.
Another +1 to hating the off the wall fireworks. We also get to play the game "Was that a gun or fireworks?!" since we live in BFE.
My neighbors, literally 100 yards away from our house, set off fireworks on Memorial Day weekend. I'm like WTF. Scared the piss out of my husband and I and we brought DS into our room for fear it was someone shooting off a gun.
4th of July fireworks usually start the weekend before and continue for a couple weeks after -_-
We don't get lots of sleep.

Ugh. Roofers showed up at 7:30 this morning!! Wouldn't stop knocking until I went to the door. Now on roof making as much noise as possible... I knew they'd be here starting today, but 7:30?? Is that normal?

Yeah, that’s pretty typical. Roofers don’t like to be up there during the heat of the day. Can’t really blame them. Hope they get the repair done quickly!
I like fireworks, but I think they should be limited to one day a year or professional displays only any other time.
We we had a great camping trip Thursday through Sunday. We go with a big group and this is our fourth year going and it’s so fun to watch how the kiddos change from year to year. Totally warms my heart! Only downside was pregnant sleeping on an air mattress. My hips were more sore on it and I felt like a rotisserie chicken I was rotating so much all night long!
That moment when you finish your breakfast and you're still hungry. Do you call it second breakfast, include it in first breakfast, or wait to see if the hunger subsides a bit? I eat slowly (twenty minutes is what I always aim for on the low side), so if the hunger isn't satiated off the bat, it usually means I'm still hungry.
Blah. A bowl of oatmeal, two whole grain waffles, and a banana, and I'm still hungry. This baby likes to eat.

I call it second breakfast.... 🤷🏻♀️ It’s not everyday but they are getting more frequent.
Today was a Jimmy Deen delite breakfast bowl (egg whites, ham, cheese, potatoes and broccoli), then a belvita bar with Greek yogurt.
@cheznet When I had my roof redone in late summer in Birmingham, AL, they started at ~6:30 to beat the heat. They got up there as soon as the noise restriction for a weekday ended.
I don't love fireworks when other people do then, but I try not to complain much, because we've been the ones to set them off on holidays, too. We try to be respectful about location and time, but if you wait until it's dark, you will be hitting someone's bedtime for sure.
@jenferlee82 Happy early birthday! DS2 was due on July 8th and I was realllllly hoping he'd be born on the 4th. I think it's such a fun day to have a birthday!
@meagan-t I'm right there with you. Add some more protein, like PB on those waffles, or ground flax in the oatmeal. That might help. I try to do a snack 2-3 hours after breakfast so I keep up my metabloism as best as I can.
Fireworks: Pretty but only on 4th of July, maybe NYE. We did Fireworks when the Eagles won the superbowl. Our dog only started having issues a few years ago. Last year I started swaddling him or I would let him come into story time with DD. He would sit next to me in the corner and that would calm him down.
Well, the boys both have Fifth’s disease. In what I hope is an abundance of caution my OB took bloodwork and advised me to stay away from my kids until the immunity results come back. Soooo boo. Or maybe silver lining is I get to do what I want for a few days? 🤦♀️
@quidditchcapn1120 OMG! I thought DS2 had it last week because of the red cheeks symptom, which he was exhibiting. (But doc said no) I hope they're better soon and that you and baby aren't affected!
@quidditchcapn1120 so sorry about the 5ths disease and extra worry that causes during pregnancy. Hopefully you are immune already! When I had bloodwork done recently I came back as having had 5ths in the past (so immune now) but I never recalled ever having it. I guess some people get it and never have any symptoms.
@SLou24 So scary your house may have been hit by lightning. Glad no one was hurt!
@quidditchcapn1120 yikes!! Hope it passes quickly and I'd enjoy a little time to keep from stressing, though it would t work for me.
@jenferlee82 happy early birthday too! Hope you have a good one 😍
I called the park district this morning to reserve the shelter for DS party. Passed out on the couch for an hour or so and still haven't heard back. Gonna call again, I hate calling multiple times in one day and I really hate phone tag. 😑
Edited cause I totally forgot one thing 😂 preggo brain.
Happy Canada Day to my fellow True North moms! Celebrating ex-pat style with some fish and chips (with malt vinegar, of course) and wishing I could be having a Caesar.
So, I recently got a job working part time in retail because I wanted to see how hard I could push myself during pregnancy with un-fun activities. The other day, I shoveled down a handful of whole wheat crackers in between customers and then ran back out to the floor. Well, I didn't necessarily chew my crackers properly because as I was talking to a customer, I started coughing/choking on a bit of cracker. It got so bad that I had to excuse myself, but because I'm pregnant (and therefore falling apart) every time I coughed, I peed myself a little bit. So I'm huddled in the back room hacking/peeing and realizing that I still have three more months to go.

Thanks y’all! I work closely with young kids (pediatric dentist) so likely that I’ve had it before and didn’t know it. But still kind of scary. I should have stayed off pubmed. Going to get some work done by myself tonight though! Beware, I’ve been told it’s going around our area right now (and I’m terrible at remembering but I think one of the regs lives near me!).
@quidditchcapn1120 I’m so sorry! I continue to be amazed at how many common childhood diseases there are that I’ve never heard of (or never heard of pre-kid).
