My husband and I are big nerds. We're having a boy. Our name choices are either Indiana Jay (yes Indiana Jones movies) or Anduin Lane (from World of Warcraft video games). I really do love how Anduin sounds (kind of like and-a-win) but i'm afraid people will think of Andouille sausage.. lmao THOUGHTS?!
@mxkris I love both of those names. Obviously not a baby but our dog is named Kerrigan and people think we named her after Nancy Kerrigan. Nope, she's named after the Queen of Blades! We were big gamers too, once upon a time.
Married to DH for 6 years (together for 16) DS born 12.13.14 DD born 10.15.16 BFP 1.24.18, MC 3.13.18 BFP 4.25.19, EDD 12.31.19
@mxkris Dh was complaining last night that we wasted Indy on the cat and can’t use it. (He also have a Han Solo). Tw we were going to name our first loss Harrison. We may like Harrison ford too much. End TW. dS is named Logan , apparently after Wolverine. I was informed after his birth.
as for our naming drama. We have a few, besides my grandfathers name, we both like Theodore. But Dh likes Theo, where I prefer Teddy.
@mxkris We play WoW, too!! Looove Anduin. I didn't think of the sausage at all. I can see people being unsure of how to pronounce it, but that's the case with a lot of names. Neat name.
We don't find out the sex until August, so we've been discussing names for both genders. If it's a girl, we've pretty well settled on a name that comes from a female video game character we both adore. (Yes, I'm being weirdly private about names...DH and I agreed not to tell a SOUL what names we're considering!!)
@mnmartinez91 I LOVE the name Clara and we need names that sound good in English and Spanish, but my husband vetoed Clara when I was pregnant with my daughter. I hope to use it for a middle name of this baby is a girl. All your names are great!
Ya'll we are having the hardest time coming up with names. We are team green again but this time MH wants to do gender specific names and it is so hard. With our first we just picked a first name that we considered gender neutral with gender specific middle names. Also in MH's family they do a biblical name so we chose to use it as middle name for first one but this time it's just so hard plus I do not want to name the kiddo after anyone in our living family. Sorry for the rant!!
So this should be a fun time for us. We likely can’t decide on boy names but my top names are Owen Patrick or Carter Joseph/Raymond. The middle names I would like to use since they are part of DH family. But we downloaded and ap and Grant was a choice too and I like that, but not 100% convinced.
This is probably pregnancy hormones, and I know I need to get over this, but I need to go on a mini rant.
So, basically since we were engaged, we've had two boy names picked out: Leo Thomas and Liam Matthew. We just had a feeling we would have at least one boy. We also had one girl name, just in case, Clara (Rose or Jean for the middle, but the first was always Clara). So, we're having a boy, first in line is Leo Thomas. Keeping the other two on the back burner for the next kid.
My little sister, WHO JUST GOT MARRIED IN DECEMBER, is already talking about having kids. We have not told any of our family our names, but she is NOT being discreet about hers at all. They want William David for their first boy, BUT THEY WILL CALL HIM LIAM. And her husband wants CLARA if it is a girl. She, thankfully, has vetoed Clara for the moment, because she doesn't like that it's too similar to her own name (Clarissa). I'm hoping she sticks to that veto.
I know, I know, I need to get over it. They are not pregnant yet. We have Leo. Things can change. And they don't even know our name ideas, so it's not like they are intentionally stealing. But it's still a little aggravating and frustrating, especially since they've only been married 6 months. I think what's annoying me most is she's kind of always been in competition with me, and I love her to death, but kids weren't even on their radar until they found out I was pregnant, and all of a sudden, they're talking about trying. And now they may be unintentionally bogarting two of our names. Argh.
@rjgmcmanus I dont think you're crazy for being annoyed. I got super annoyed when some random ass girl from my high school picked a name I loved and I now I dont want to look like im copying them..so it's just frustrating lol. At least you're the pregnant one and u can pick whatever u want and WIN! baaha!
@ktmaesim True! But my concern is they will get pregnant with their first before we get pregnant with our second, and they will steal our second child's name! Because we're not changing from Leo for the first, that's a done deal for this baby.
Ack. I know it's silly, but it's been bothering me. I mean, why can't they just want to use Will or Bill or Billy for a nickname for William? Why does it have to be Liam?
Like our daughter we don’t plan on finalizing a name until after the baby is born and we have a chance to meet him or her. But we will have a list that we’ve narrowed it down to. Well I’ve start a list of names already and on that list is isla. We just had new neighbors move in and their little girls name is isla! 😭 now we have to veto it. I’m so sad.
@rjgmcmanus I think if you love those names that much it’s worth having a convo with your sister! I’ve had a girl name since I was maybe 20 and I definitely made it known to friends/family... if they thought I was looney back then, oh well!
@ashorkey oh no! I wouldn’t veto it, it’s just a neighbor.
@rjgmcmanus oh wow that stinks! What are the odds that they chose the same names? I'd be annoyed, as well. @ashorkey I agree with @anniemarie887 I think. Neighbors move and you shouldnt have to give up a favorite name for someone who may not even be around in a few years!
@anniemarie887@blueskychicago12 I may still fight for it but we have a rule that we can’t be able to associate anyone with the name me choose. Which technically there’s a girl names isla in our daughters favorite Barbie movie so it’s already a stretch it will be agreed upon by my husband at the end 😂
@anniemarie887@blueskychicago12 Yeah, it's obnoxious, but honestly, I'm not sure it's worth talking to her about. Again, I love her, she's wonderful, but she is a little wishy washy about these things, as my husband reminded me. What she wants today she might not want tomorrow. It's just so strange they landed on two of the same names as us. I'm just glad she's vetoing Clara, and hope she sticks with that decision...it's Liam I'm nervous about, but again, she could always change her mind, and there are a ton of mitigating factors. She's not even pregnant, so I need to just cool my jets and let it slide until a time when it actually matters...IF it actually ever matters.
Officially named our baby! We found out we are having a Boy, it’s our 3rd we have a Zachary and Maxwell and for our 3rd boy.. Archer 🙂 Archer Kai. We are very much apart of our ocean community and wanted a name that had some ocean background and is where Kai Fits in. Archer we just love and doesn’t hurt that he will be a sagittarius 😛! So his name meaning completely is “bowman of the sea”
@cpk3535 Elliott (two Ts for us) is on our girl list, too! It's probably my DH's top name right now... and I like it, too. Elli would be a natural nickname.
Dorothy (family name) - my #1 Elliott (family name) - DH's #1 Charlotte (husband is Charles) Jett (most likely a middle name - family name) Joanna Junia Luna Evangeline Willow Claire Hazel - a new one... I'm really getting into nature names lately and I'm crazy about this one.
Our older girls are Zoe Katherine and Mary Elizabeth (Molly)
@rjgmcmanus My brother and SIL were going to steal our forever boy name (Henry) if they had a boy. That's been our name for like 15 years. It made steam come out of my ears. They also have two girls, and the second one is named after me.. so I'm not that mad anymore.
I don't remember where I heard about this so sorry if it's a repeat. But the app Kinder is a little too fun. It's like tinder for names where you and your partner both download it and connect and then swipe. When you both like the same name you get a notification that you have a match! My husband and I have been doing it all day
Re: The name thread!
Edited: We did have middle names picked out but my husband and I disagreed on the way to pronounce the one, so it got scrapped altogether 😂😔

It might be worth the "really terrible" risk, lol!
We are going with: Athena Hartlie
others we like: Dillon, Conner, Christopher, Timothy, Grant, Dalton, Reed, Flynn
we are so confused. But pretty sure Cooper is our top choice.
Middle names will be either Joseph (DH’s Dad’s middle name), Raymond, or Patrick (DH’s middle name)
