I think we have decided on Tess for a girl...still no idea what the middle name will be. I have thought about using mine which is "Mae" but I'm not super into it. I also think since Tess is so short we need a longer middle name.

And if it's a boy we will most likely name him Theodore aka Teddy for short. Either way, I am hoping to have a sibling soon after this baby, and saying Tess and Teddy together as siblings sounds so adorable to me! EEEkkk!

  • @ktmaesim - I love the name Tess! That is super cute ❤
  • @mrszoobear  gahhhh me too! I'm so glad you like it! I have really been struggling with names, esp for a girl. but those two just feel so right!
  • @janiep81 I still really like Elliot, too! My mom has had a weird bug up her butt to make us think of something else.  Get this- we went to hang out with them last week, and she again brings up if we’ve thought of any other names for baby.  Then she says, “Ellie sounds like something kids would make fun of, like calling her Ellie Elephant.”  I’m thinking to myself, “Why, Mom? Do you plan to make fun of her?”  Plus, the extra stupid part- our 8yo daughter is named Bailey, and she’s got a ton of cute little nicknames, including Bailey Bear from when she was tiny.  I think my mom is losing it! 😜

Anyway, I’m think of Elliot (Ellie) Kaila for her first and middle name.  “Kai” (pronounced K:ai) is ocean in Hawaiian, so this would be a little adaptation of that.  💦 🏝

@cpk3535 I tend to run through the ways a kids' name could be made fun of, too, when I think of names...so personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to consider. However, that's really weird your mom is pressuring you so much about it, though! Doesn't quite seem like her place? I'm sorry she's being such a pain about it!

My sister's name is Gabriella, and we've always called her Ellie. I *LOVE* that nickname--like it's probably one of my favorites, ever. We've always endearingly called her "Ellie Bellie" or, yes, sometimes "Ellie Elephant"--but it actually led to her liking elephants for quite a while! :P My name is Amanda, and one of my nicknames has always been "Amanda Panda." I was never insulted by it, lol. Just my two cents that you didn't ask for.  :#

And this is exactly why we never share names with family before birth.  I don't want to hear whatever stupid reason that have why we shouldn't name our baby what we want to.  It pisses everyone off, but I don't care.

FWIW - My son has had an Ellie (Elizabeth) in his class for the last 2 years and she's the sweetest little girl ever! It's a great NN!

  • @ktmaesim Tess is a super cute name.  When I hear it, I picture someone very hip and stylish😊
  • @blueskychicago12  AH! Thank you! ME too! I love that it's not very common! but still isn't strange haha if that makes sense

    @ladybird_ladybird I love Marigold!!! <3
  • @ladybird_ladybird I love marigold! My husband told me after our anatomy scan that if it had been a girl he wanted to name her Marigold! ❤️

Otto is also on our list for a boy!
  • @ashorkey I looooove Marigold. I’m going to be slightly disappointed if we cant use it  :D
  • We've changed our minds a few different times but right now top boy name (because I told Hubby he could pick) is Cody Joseph (named after Cody Bellinger from the Dodgers, LOL), nickname CJ .... BUT we recently found out his hot / cold daughter's current BF's name is Cody. She mentioned to me this weekend she thinks it's really weird for us to have a kid with her BF's name. Especially if they ever have kids. I didn't know what to tell her because 1. her BF's usually don't last more than 6 months 2. she's speaking to us now, but her MO is to get mad at us and not speak to us for 3-6 mo 3. Hubby is really set on the name Cody 4. We have no other back up names

For girls we are thinking (in no particular order):
    Angelica Hope (nickname Ellie)
    Analise Faith (nickname Lisi)
Selah (no middle name or nickname yet)

Our DD is Evangelina Grace (nickname Evie)

@triwellnessgirl may I suggest you spell Analise Anneliese instead?  It’s a beautiful name, but your spelling starts with Anal.  I wouldn’t be able to get past that.

In terms of Cody, maybe there’s enough time that she’ll break up with the boyfriend before the baby comes?

  • @lilyrheas We're having a heck of a time deciding on a name for our third girl. We have a long list and keep adding to it! There's so much pressure as this will be the last baby and we've also already used four of our favorite names. Did you find it more difficult this time?
    DD#1 - 12/09

    Baby #3 due 1/19, m/c 6/18

  • @naughtypine  I'd love to know the most common names you see at your workplace, I want to make sure I'm not picky a trendy name!! haha
  • @ktmaesim the problem with that is that kids already at pre-K are not necessarily going to have the same popular names as when these little ones are born. We picked the name Asher last time because it wasn't anywhere on any list, and then like 5 days after he was born my mom sent me an article saying that it was the #1 most popular boy name for 2017. I'm not entirely sure where that info came from because everywhere we go (doctors, daycare, etc) people comment that it's such a nice, unique name, so I'm thinking we're geographically in an area where it wasn't popular, but it's just impossible to predict even based on last year's trends.

@janiep81 we were team Green and had a name for each gender picked last time. Since we had a boy, we still have our girl name for this time, but we're already having a hell of a time picking another boy name. Even the ones that made our short list last time just don't feel right anymore.
  • @janiep81 oh man yes so much harder. Last two we had lists for both genders prepared before week 20.   We narrowed the first two down to family references with
    Hailee Rhea
    Lillian Marie
With this one we waited to find the gender and we were even more lost. But we both love the 1920 time frame and came up with Evelyn and Grace just flowed with it haha. No special meaning anywhere like the other two but it looked pretty!
If we try for number four in a few years with another girl we will really be shooting in the dark 😂😂
  • @naughtypine - I 100% agree. They seem to go in trends like the Adien craze that started about 10 years ago. Everyone has Jayden, Hayden, Braden, Kayden, etc.

Then names like Isabella, Shopia, Charlotte (aka Charlie), Nora, Ruby and all versions of Emma or Ava started becoming the new normal.

My generation was big on names like Brittany, Brianna, Bethany, Megan and Stephanie. But you rarely see those names anymore.

I like that Athena is popular enough to not be weird but also not in the top 100 yet. I just hope it stays that way and she doesn't have to go by Athena Z all throughout school.
  • so if you're worried about a name being too popular you can actually go on the social security site and see how many babies were issued ssn with that name - always good to get perspective, we've had Charlotte/Charlie for a girl (family name for us) picked for a long long time - it shows as like like #6 in popularity but it's not even 1% of total births in 2018 (12,940 babies named charlotte). for ex. ashley peaked in 1992 (surprising, would've thought late 80s) and that year 38,453 baby girls were named ashley. this psa brought to you by your resident data crunching/analytical weirdo.

  • @anniemarie887 yeah I've read that even the top 10 popular names now are actually a much lower amount of people with the name since there's so much more variety of names now that in say the 1950's.

@CapricaAndrea exactly, the names are definitely spread thinner these days. sorry to the canadians - i have no idea if your gov't has a search feature like ours does!

  • @anniemarie887 - Yes, that is very true. Another thing to consider is your location. A lot of the times, people of similar backgrounds will have the same taste in names. So I look at my friends Facebook and Instagram feeds to see what they and their friends are naming their kids.

Even with it being spend thinner you still get a lot of kids the same year of school with the same name.

My cousin named her son Jayden during that craze and her daughter Isabella during another. Jayden is 1 of 10 in his grade at the same school (2 girls, 8 boys) and Isabella is 1 of 3.
  • I have 2 boys. Brayden Lane (8) and Dominic Ray (4) we found out at 16 weeks we are having boy number three!! We are so stuck on names. I like so many Jamison, Evan, Preston, Cooper, Donovan (too close to dominic i think) ugh help

I had a girl name picked out.
     Everly Grace-Lynn
     (or Evelyn)
but that won't be happening now lol this is our last baby!

I thought we were settled on Austin, our other pick was Angelo, but DH wasn’t thrilled with is so we decided to name our new roomba Angelo. Now that we’ve been saying Angelo so much in conversation DH thinks he likes it better haha. Daily I’m asking DS which name he likes better and I think whichever is the first one he says we’ll go with.
  • How are people doing with names? Are you all decided? Still having trouble picking (like me)?
  • @jandawg We’ve been set on the first name for months but we’re really butting heads on his middle name. Dh insists on one that I think sounds dumb and neither of us will give.
  • Oh man. We had a girl's name picked out, but now that we are having a boy, we're down to a few options....DH and I like some pretty unique names (not unheard of). I really like them, and so does DH, but I'll admit I'm nervous picking an unusual name. I think I care too much what people think...which is why DH and I have a rule that we aren't sharing our names with anyone!! :D

Think we'll end up narrowing it down to 2-3 first names (we've almost certainly decided on middle name, after a relative), and just wait to decide until we meet our little boy. :)

PS - @anniemarie887 Thank you for the SSN website tip! We've used that tons in our search!
  • @ninrms oh yay! glad it was helpful!

girl name is done, boy name we have a list we made back at memorial day. i'm thinking coming thanksgiving we need to sit down and narrow down.
  • @jandawg being team green we are having a hard time coming up with names. We had a name picked out for each sex but the more I think about them and "call" baby the names I don't like them. With DS the more I said the name I liked it but it's not working the same this time. Like I'm not sure I what I want to call this kid the rest of it's life. Maybe hormones are making it harder than it needs to be for me.
  • We have been set on a name for a while now. It is really fun to have something to call her now that we know she's a girl.
  • @Peachie89 we are also team green, also having a hard time coming up with names! I seem to really like names that end in s or t sounds, and our last name starts with 'sh' and I don't like the way it flows together. I'm trying to also think of name options that have various nickname possibilities for that same uncertainty about naming someone for life.
  • I am stressing about this. I’m nervous I’m  still not gonna be 100% on board with our girl name. ESP for middle name. Ugh! But we are good to go with Boy name.  I care wya too much about what ppl think too
  • I think we are going with Ellie for this one's name, but I am having trouble deciding if it feels right when I call her that. My husband and daughter love it, so I'm trying to get on board but something is holding me back from confirming that it will be her name!
  • DH wanted to ask his mom about a name yesterday and I have said I don't want other people's opinions. I casually asked her about her grandparents names and she started listing them commenting "Agatha...oh what a terrible name" to which I gave DH a little smirk because that's actually pretty high on our list. We told her and got a hilarious amount of backtracking! I mentioned that I loved the nickname Aggy and she said she loved the idea of a little Aggy running around the house. Anyways, it was pretty funny.
  • @jenn6233 - I think Ellie is very pretty
  • @jenn6233 we’re also going with Ellie (Elliot for her full name)!  We’ve already been calling her Ellie Belly for weeks now ❤️❤️
