Hi all! Sorry if this has been asked already but I searched and didn’t see anything...does anyone recommend their prenatal vitamins? I am on a high dose of methyl folate because I’m MTHFR heterozygous and I am taking a DHA I bought at Whole Foods while I finish up a bottle of regular multivitamin gummies, but I would like to start taking a prenatal that maybe contains dha when I finish the multis and the DHA. Thanks in advance!
@KTZ17 If you dont have a problem with large horse-sized pills (I don't), I recommended the Walgreen's brand. There are 2 pills daily; one multi and 1 DHA. My doctor assured me the generic brand is perfectly fine, and I'm all about saving a little money where I can! I checked the label and they meet or exceed all of the recommended daily values during pregnancy.
@ktz17 I like the one a day ones with DHA. With DS I was doing gummies and didn’t realize they didn’t contain iron till my blood showed I was iron deficient and needed to add in an iron pill. If you stick with a gummy add in an iron pill as well.
@KTZ17 I really like these guys...they’re $$$ but super highly rated on 3rd party sights, and they have DHA, plenty of folate, and not too much Vitamin A (which weirdly can be dangerous to your baby).
They're also a 2x a day, which I feel like is easier to digest...and they’re super easy to swallow.
@blueskychicago12 no problem with horse pills, thanks for the recommendation!
@ale9687 thank you for reminding me about iron. The multivitamin gummies I’ve been taking don’t have iron so I should definitely buy ones that do. I just don’t want to get constipated 😣
@midgerose86 I like the sound of those but don’t think I would remember to take them at different times of day. Right now I take everything after dinner.
Vitamin A and fetal growth: a is fat soluble which means that if you ingest too much it'll stay in your body, you won't pee it out like b. Vitamin a is retinol which is the basic ingredient (retinoid) in many acne meds and if you have severe cystic acne you can take excess vitamin a IF NOT PREGNANT OR PLANNING TO BE and it'll help clear it up. Accutane causes severe birth defects, this is why. I know this because I used to have severe skin issues and did 1 course of accutane followed by vitamin a treatment a few years following on and off until I hit my 30s and it completely cleared up for good, even pregnancy hasn't caused any breakouts.
@bookworm492 all correct, but I wanted to add that if you take a mixed caratenoid (it will be labelled as such) it’s the pre-cursor to vitamin A but is water soluble. So basically your body will use as much as it needs to make as much vitamin A as necessary and then you pee out the rest. Though I don’t know it’s safety level for pregnancy specifically.
For small ailments unrelated to pregnancy, do we go to our OB or the general practitioner? I'm asking because I seem to possibly have pink eye. Wasnt sure if it's best to go through the OB since they are most familiar with pregnancy safe treatments, or stick with my GP?
@blueskychicago12 I would go to an Ophthalmologist, but I work for one, so I am biased. We see so many people who start at their general and then have to see us too for infections.
I usually go to the GP, and if they are uncomfortable they let me know and then I reach out to the OB for any input on the right Rx's. Sorry you have to deal with pink eye!!
@blueskychicago12 if you have any doubt about a medication your GP gives you, you can also ask the pharmacist whether it's pregnancy safe. They will know.
@blueskychicago12 I went to Urgent Care last weekend for the same thing. The doctor confirmed the eye drops he was prescribing were safe for pregnancy.

Is anyone else having a lot of dizziness lately? I’ve had an uptick in dizziness since the beginning but for the past few days (I’m almost 14 weeks) I’ve had such bad dizziness and a few blood sugar drops out of nowhere!
@knottie120a516c3695a7f6 yes I have had more dizzy spells these days. Nothing too serious. Today I tripped and fell from big sidewalk crack, but I caught myself and didn't get hurt but it could have been very serious.
I’ve definitely been feeling more dizzy spells lately. The blood sugar issue has been hitting me, too! The heat is also not helping with the dizziness 😛. I try to take a minute to put my feet up here and there, but I don’t have much of a chance most of the time...
@bookworm492 I just responded to your hemorrhoid question as you were responding about my lightning crotch! 😆. Does it feel like a sharp pain up the vagina? We are really getting to know each other intimately...
@bookworm492 These pains just make me worry that something is wrong with my PGAL brain, but I emailed my midwife and she said I can expect to be more uncomfortable since it’s my “second” pregnancy and she said to call if it becomes painful to urinate. So I assume that means this pain is normal. I’m sorry you’re so uncomfortable. I think we can use heating pads so long as they’re not on high. Do you have a body pillow?
@KTZ17 PGAL brain makes everything more noticeable and a big deal! This is #2 for me too and the round ligament pain and whatever the hell is up with my crotch have been so uncomfortable. I know it’s normal but man, Im on edge!
@bookworm492 I feel that way when I eat too much. Our organs are all pushed up to make room for baby. I wish I could tell you it gets better, hang in there!
I’m sorry, it’s me again. Has anyone else accidentally (or purposely) eaten queso fresco? Went out for Mexican food tonight and ate my food and as I was finishing it realized it had queso fresco sprinkled on top so now I’m freaking out a bit.
Looking for ideas for gifts for the big brother and sister to be. Would love to tell them with a little gift, but want something special and not too childish since my bonus kids are a bit older- 10 year old boy and 7 year old girl. They wouldn’t have to be the same gift, but similar in perceived value so it seems fair. Step-son loves football and video games. Step-daughter loves all things girly- art, jewelry, etc. Could also do something that worked for both of them. Give me your best ideas! Thanks!
@KTZ17 I've eaten queso fresco (most recently last night) and didn't think twice about it. Early on, I was asking at restaurants if their cheeses were pasteurized and was always told yes, even the bries, fetas, and ricottas. One place which had a huge cheese selection said they had one raw milk cheese and told me which one to avoid.
Thank you @blueskychicago12. My logical side tells me restaurants probably don’t serve unpasteurized cheeses, but then I googled and saw all these sites say not to eat queso fresco.
@KTZ17 Yes, unless they are getting their queso fresco from a small farm or something, which is doubtful. They're probably buying it in bulk from a large supplier
@ktz17 I’ve been eating all the cheese. My supermarket doesn’t sell any unpasteurized cheese that I’ve found yet. Also even if it is unpasteurized once it’s cooked it’s ok to eat.
I had a severe ankle sprain about 4 years ago and it has randomly been acting up again (pain and minor swelling). Does anyone know if it is common during pregnancy for old injuries to pop up again? With so many weird changes happening in our bodies right now, I can't help but wonder if it's related to pregnancy!
@blueskychicago12 My yoga prenatal classes have been emphasizing that during pregnancy the hormones flooding through your body will increase your flexibility through the joints, which would make sense for feeling your ankle loosening up. My previously injured ankle has been cracking and popping a lot lately, too. I bet it’s the hormones 😛
@KTZ17 I've been checking the cheeses I buy personally, and have been avoiding cheese boards at restaurants (some of the nicer ones import their cheese for their boards, which can be unpasteurized), but for cheese on a dish (like pizza, tacos, burgers, etc.), I haven't given it a second thought, and have been eating as normal. Most restaurants buy in bulk for that sort of thing, which means it's usually pasteurized. And even if not, it's such little exposure that every once in a while most likely won't do anything. Women have been giving birth to healthy babies for centuries, and the unpasteurized cheese thing is relatively new, so we should be fine. 😊
@KTZ17 We eat Mexican once a week religiously! Always get queso and I’ve been fine. Nothing makes my pregnant self happier than a burrito smothered in queso 🤤
@KTZ17@k_mama91 All this talk of cheese and Mexican food made me start wanting it. Texted husband. Now he's making steak tacos for dinner tonight. Yay, Taco Tuesday!

I don't know how I'm gonna get through 6 more months of this. I'm so uncomfortable all the time. I push through it but end every day crying in bed.
