In pregnancy spotting can be normal, but also very scary, this thread is a safe space to talk about spotting, get advice and offer support to our fellow mommies !
I’ve been spotting daily since before I got a positive test. I actually thought it was spotting at the beginning of my period. It just ended up being so light that I took a test and shockingly it came back positive. When I called the doctor they said it was really common in the beginning but I can’t help but feel super nervous every time I go to the bathroom. Tests have been getting very dark so that’s nice to see but I’m just feeling like I can’t get excited yet.
I’m 5w2d today and I’ve been spotting brown for 9 days. It’s super minimal, it’s only there when I wipe, nothing on my underwear or in the toilet and I probably never would have noticed it but I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks four years ago so I’m super nervous about everything. I told my doctor about it and she didn’t seem the least bit concerned, so I’m hoping everything is okay. I have my first ultrasound on the 31st. Fingers crossed for a healthy baby!
@sarahhec that sounds exactly like me, too. However I have been wearing panty liners. It’s so nerve wracking! We have our appt on the 31st as well! Fingers crossed it will all be fine!
@alex_19 Thinking of you! Fingers crossed for both of us!!
@mommystuebs I don’t think so. I had full bloodwork done on Monday though.. would progesterone have been included in that or do I need to request that?
@marebear15 I did it at LifeLabs but they didn’t give me the number to check them online. I’m going to go there tomorrow and get it. All my bloodwork should be back by then, but my doctor would call me anyways if anything was low... but if I don’t notice it on there I’m definitely going to talk to her about it.
When I called the OB and told them about the spotting they were just like oh yeah that's normal and didn't mention anything about getting bloodwork. I have read that it can be that progesterone is low so I hope that isn't the case. I'm going on almost 3 weeks of spotting now, has stayed the same the entire time. I keep waiting for something to change.
Spotting can be normal but especially having insurance, getting tests done never hurt. And youre the one paying your doctor. Never be scared to ask for reassurance. Honestly though i feel like youre just one of the mama's who spot.
I started bleeding yesterday. My doctor had me go to the ER. The doctor said my cervix is closed and we saw the baby, however, I’m still having cramping and bleeding so I’m expecting the worst tomorrow at my 7 week scan. Unfortunately, DH is going out of town tomorrow for work. My mom is going to come up and help with DD while I’m at my appt and to help with whatever happens. Yesterday and today have been rough and I’m terrified for tomorrow.
@mokay19 - FX everything is okay! I had a bunch of gushing blood with my second, it lasted until well into the second tri. My daughter was completely fine in there, but I was so convinced every time it happened I was miscarrying (especially as it was my pregnancy after my miscarriage). It is so scary, I know. But it is possible for things to be okay. I am glad your mom is going with you. ((hugs))
@shell142020 Yes, spotting is light bleeding when you wipe or on your liner. It’s common in pregnancy, but would advise you to call your OB to be sure.
@marebear15@mokay19 FX so hard for you both. I hope this week brings only good news for you. 🤞
@mokay19 FX that you have good news tomorrow at your scan and the bleeding clears up. I’m so glad your mom will be around to help out. I’m sorry you’re going through this!
*lurk* @marebear15 Standing with you shoulder to shoulder. All the love to you dear.
People think we become mothers when we give birth but the truth is we become mothers the moment we start calling our babies to us in our thoughts, dreams and prayers. Some paths are short and some are so long that you can easily forget where you were headed.

A few hours into the morning, I remembered that my sister had bought some natural progesterone cream for her normal cycle, so I asked if I could borrow it. I slathered it on like sunscreen because I figured a pregnant woman can't really have too much, plus cream is a lot less potent than suppositories. A few hours later the spotting stopped.
I haven't had any betas or my progesterone checked since I was 12 and 13dpo, which has been 1.5 weeks, almost 2 weeks ago. I'm calling my doctor to get my progesterone rechecked and he'll probably want me to come in for a quick ultrasound too. I'm only 5w2d, so probably won't be able to see the heartbeat, but I might be able to see the gestational sac and fetal pole. Calling as soon as the office opens.
