My FIL visited this weekend and stayed much longer than we anticipated, so I'm exhausted and sort of sad that I felt like I didn't get much weekend to enjoy myself. But I was able to sneak away for a few hours with my mom and we had a ton of fun! We bought some cute baby stuff at a craft show (baby hair bows!! 🎀) and then she insisted on taking me maternity clothes shopping (again). I love spending time with mom, she's the best 🥰
I’m at the dentist with DS1 for his quarterly cleaning, then have my measles titer draw, and summing it all up with taking DS2 for his well child visit this afternoon. I already need a nap
The printer at my desk is basically out of ink and the network printer has been down for months. I need to print bubble sheets for a test my students are taking next period, but I also have students right now. Frustrating start to a Monday, but we're in the home stretch now!
I got my NIPT results back (all good) over the weekend and announced the sex (BOY) to MH. I did an easter egg hunt with scrabble letters inside that spelled out "it's not a girl" to try to throw him off a little. Our daughter was very upset. We'll have to go out for some girls only outings soon.
I'm making scratch off gender reveal cards to mail to our families this week.
I mentioned we cleaned the boat yesterday and I was excited for lake season at work today and one of my direct reports said “Good, maybe I’ll get an invitation to come out with you this year. I waited all year last year and never got one.”
That’s weird right? I generally don’t hang out with assistants outside of work other than work sanctioned events because I’m a director and I don’t want boundaries to be blurred. Should I be inviting people to do these things with my family?
@quidditchcapn1120 That seems weird to me, but it really depends on your corporate climate. Do other upper management invite people to things like that? But also, I feel like there is a difference between inviting someone who works for you to happy hour or a barbeque for employees and family and inviting them on your boat.
@emily1052, we got tons of cute stuff! We just raided the target maternity section. I think I got 4 dresses, a pair of white jeans, and a navy floral tank top. I think I should be pretty set now for summer with a big belly!
My work email box is almost at capacity which means I have to spend the next hour or so archiving emails. As I’m doing that I see incoming “reply all’s” from coworkers that don’t need to reply all.... honestly one of my biggest pet peeves. 🤬
Our corporate culture is very inclusive and family-like. However, that usually manifests itself with lots of company events like one called “off the clock” where everyone in the dental department is invited to bowling or happy hour and sometimes a group will go back to someone’s house to hang out or play ping pong or something.
The groups that end up very close are dentists with small teams. Usually a satellite clinic will have a dentist and 3-5 direct reports. As a director, though, I have 55 direct reports. My boat holds 12. Add in families and there’s a definite numbers problem here, lol.
ETA- I think the thing that caught me off guard was the asking for an invite part. I don’t think I would ever ask someone for an invite like that unless it was my best friend or family haha.
Had a great “no obligations” weekend at home and got out for some nice walks and meals. I spent a lot of the time preparing for our vacation next week. Honestly don’t know how I’ll get much work done this week as all I can think about is how this time next week we’ll be in paradise. 🌊☀️🌴
@quidditchcapn1120 with 55 direct reports I don’t think it’s necessary to invite people to the lake. Inviting everyone would be too much, then how do you decide who to invite if you don’t invite everyone. I could see that leading to some serious tension.
Also, I wouldn’t want any coworkers seeing me in a swimsuit!
@sammygirl18 Ok good. That’s my thought too. I think the confusion is that some of the dentists go to the lake together but it’s a small group of people and there’s no issues with managers/direct reports. I’m going to try to forget about the comment but now I’ll wonder each Monday if my coworker is pissed I didn’t invite her to the lake.
I'm in maternity pants at work today, and they are so comfortable. They are just an early-trimester pair, so a 3-inch elastic waistband, not the full belly coverage, but having something that stretches is nice. Most of my jeans still fit/work fine enough, but my more structured pants for the work week are getting to be uncomfortably tight by the end of the day.
We had a fun weekend. Just got back from Chicago. I'm exhausted. We landed at 12:00. Home by 1:30. Dr appt at 2:00. Made it just in time!! Now I'm catching up on some studying. We had a fun weekend. Crazy weather though. DD1 got to ride on an airplane for the first time and saw snow for the first time. Got to spend time with family, do some fun stuff downtown, and eat all the good food!! We had fun, but I'm glad to be back home and sleep in my own bed. Not excited to be back to the real world tomorrow.

Definitely, I've been in maternity pants since about week 12 despite my lackluster bump because of how uncomfortable buttons and waistbands felt (though everything still buttoned). Sometimes it would make me feel queasy.
@marbellie *hugs* it was accidental and you held out for so long! (In reference to baby sex thread.) I hope you can reconcile with yourself and afterwards have fun spoiling your baby.

Thanks @cooaladolly and @galentine, I got so sad because I wanted to find out upon delivery so badly. I'm still sad, but honestly I should just be grateful to have a healthy baby (which I am forcefully focusing on)
I told MH about the accident but promised to not ruin it for him, my current plan is to live vicariously through him lol. Also, I'm not telling any of my friends/family because they will try to make me tell them.
@marbellie, I'm so sad for you that you won't get your delivery room surprise. But yay for your healthy baby!! Do you think your H will make it to the end, or will he cave and want to know since you know?
Sorry to keep jumping back and forth between Randoms and Sex thread (trying not to clutter things up).
@junebabyh@galentine y'all were right, I couldn't hold it in! MH and I were on the couch last night and I got jittery and wanting to say "he" rather than "it", so I asked MH if he cared and he said it was okay for us to be on the same boat (what a sweetheart). So I ran to the Dollar Tree and picked up a little gift box, put an "it's a boy" ribbon at the bottom and a ton of fake white rose petals on top of it. He opened it and was really happy...apparently he suspected it was a boy based on our 13 week scan while getting our CVS test done anyways.
@marbellie, awwwww yay! So glad the two of you can make lemonade out of your accidentally spoiling team green lemons. Now you two have a special little secret. 🥰
I'm supposed to go over to my parents house for dinner tonight because my favorite uncle is in town, and we usually only see him once a year. This is likely the only time I'll see him while pregnant. My siblings and niece and nephew are also supposed to go, but the kids had really bad coughs earlier this week (but seem better yesterday/today). I love these kids so freaking much, but the last time I saw them, they shared a horrible cold with me that knocked my pregnant self on my ass for two straight weeks. It was miserable - I missed several days of work, I choked on nasal drip until I vomited.....ugh it was so bad. And I'm terrified of getting a fever while pregnant. Would you risk it to go see your fav uncle? Is it safe to assume the kids are less contagious if they have felt better for 2 days? I'm so torn 😥

How long have they been fever free?
coughs here last for months. In the terms of our pediatrician “that cough will go away in May!” when asked about a cough that one of the boys had for weeks in January...
@galentine If you do end up going just make sure you wash your hands immediately before eating and again when you get home. And maybe just try to avoid being near the kids so you don’t get coughed on. But if you’re not comfortable going then stay home! Yours and baby’s health is priority
I would go. Coughs are typically the tail end of a cold and can last for weeks because kids are less effective at getting the mucous out on their own. We follow daycare rules on this stuff. If we didn’t, we’d never have left the house DSs first year as there was always something he was getting over.
I would just be overly diligent with hand washing and not touching your face, etc.
Thanks, everyone. I think I'm just paranoid because the last time this happened I was SO diligent with washing my hands frequently, and I even changed my clothes as soon as I got home in case that would help, and I still got it. And it was so bad that time 😭
ETA - @cmbt2, they said the kids never had a fever, but it's very possible they never checked them for fever (they don't go to daycare)

I would go. I can tell you that I only test my kids for fever when they feel warm and are obviously sick so it’s possible they haven’t checked 🙈
It very well could have been a coincidence last time or the parents could have been carrying it due to the weekish long incubation period, unfortunately. Colds while pregnant suck (I’ve had two already 🤬)

@quidditchcapn1120 yikes, I think it’s totally normal for you to not invite coworkers to your friend and family outings.
