Re: QUESTION Thread

  • Alright- I feel like a crazy lady- I started getting nauseated on Friday- then yesterday afternoon I had a weird/different then normal cramp and got super bloated all of a sudden. (I’m not constipated) then the nausea went away- last night I was a little queasy- same with today- nothing like how it was. My boobs still hurt and I’m not as bloated. I also had 2 drops of blood on underwear yesterday- no more bleeding... i called the ob and she said to wait- if it gets worse go to the ED- I know symptoms come and go and spotting happens- and I’m probably freaking out about nothing-  but has anyone had this happen? Random spontaneous bloating and loss of some symptoms? This is my first pregnancy- I’m only 6 weeks 6 days- and my first us isn’t until May 10th.
Your symptoms sounds exactly like mine, I panicked as well with like spotting so small it was basically only when I wiped, my friend who had been a surrogate 3 times assured me it is completely normal, she bled around 5 weeks with every pregnancy. Also I feel totally normal some days and then the next like I’m going to explode from bloated and sore boobs. My appt is next week I just am mentioning everything to my doc.

  • I don't see a depression thread yet so I'll go ahead and try to make one.
  • @doctorcrime So glad you made it. I intended to, just have been so sick and caught up today. I think it'll really be good for the support.
  • FTM here. Do you get terrible nightmares with your pregnancy? I know vivid dreams is a symptom, but I’m having pretty bad nightmares. Getting kidnapped, things chasing me. But the big one is last night I had a nightmare that I had a MC, we had one in January so this is a constant worry of mine, and DH had to wake me up because he said I was breathing so hard he could hear me in the living room. Apparently I shot up out of bed then just laid down and went back to sleep. Does anyone else struggle with this? And how do you combat it?
  • @spawnsvessel I’ve been having incredibly vivid dreams but with DS I had nightmares that caused me to scream and cry. They were almost panic attack inducing.
  • @k_mama91 Where you able to find any relief for them? Or did they go away at any point? I know it is because I have an anxiety disorder and I can’t control it in my sleep, but I fear it will stress out my body too much.
  • @spawnsvessel if I remember correctly (it’s been 9 years) they did get less frequent. Probably bc the bigger you get, the worse your sleeping patterns become lol for what it’s worth I was suffering with horrible anxiety at the time and this time around, for the most part, I have normal anxiety over the pregnancy but noting crazy. I think stress and anxiety plays a big part into sleeping/dreaming.

Does anyone know if it’s normal to have red spotting just after a bowel movement, and then brown spotting the rest of the day? It’s been happening for weeks, and it’s making me nervous. (9 wks today)

  • @Poppy16 I haven’t personally experienced this, but usually spotting in first tri is not concerning.  If it’s accompanied by cramps or progresses to heavier bleeding, then it’s a concern.  Are you constipated?  Do you have hemorrhoids?

  • Anyone losing weight? I’m down 3 pounds at 5 weeks.

@Brad&Jibby I've lost about a pound at 8 weeks. I think losing a few pounds in the first trimester can be normal, as you may feel too much nausea to want to eat much and aren't eating/drinking as many empty calories (no more beer, wine, cocktails, and generally trying to eat healthier)

  • @Brad&Jibby I haven't actually checked yet this time, but with my previous pregnancy I lost about 7 lbs in the first trimester. As Megz1902 says, it was a combo of morning sickness/food aversions/healthier eating and my midwife wasn't concerned at all.
  • For anyone who has had a baby before, how long did you take maternity leave for? For those of you who haven't, how long do you plan to take? I am going to hopefully be starting a new teaching job in August and am due December 1st. Was hoping I would be able to get back in with no issues for classes the second week of January, which would only be six weeks off. I'm not sure if that is over ambitious but since it is a new job I am afraid to make too many waves this early.
  • @doctorcrime I was cleared at 5 weeks with my first, I had a CS. I didn’t go back until 6 weeks and it went fine.  With my son, I took 8 full weeks with 4 partial.  It was a bit challenging dealing with 2 under 2, but we could have made it work at 6 weeks.   I just had more time so I took it.  Not sure what I am taking this time around, we hadn’t really discussed it.
  • @doctorcrime With my first, I took 7 weeks as I was not eligible for FMLA at the time and it was not enough time for me mentally. I battled PP OCD pretty bad and my daughter was having allergy issues so on top of the hot mess that I was we had a bunch of appointments to still go to. This time around I plan on taking the full 12 weeks of FMLA.
  • Okay, so since this is a question thread, I have a question about carseats: does anyone else here own a Prius C or another similar sized compact car? If so, any recommendations on infant seats that won't take up too much space, and where the passenger can still sit relatively comfortably? I just got my car in 2017, and hate the idea of trading it in already. Husband has an Avalon, so he can fit whatever, lucky guy. But I'm worried about my little Prius C. I've registered for a Britax B Safe 35, but am questioning that choice now, as I've heard mixed comments about its fit in smaller cars. Is the Chicco Keyfit 35 maybe a better option? Kicker: we want an infant seat that can also hook up to a Bob Revolution Flex stroller. And we don't live near a Buy Buy Baby to test seats, sadly, and the Babies R Us we had is now closed, obviously. So I'm going into this by just doing as much research as I can. Any advice would be great.
  • @rjgmcmanus I haven’t looked into it in about 2 years (around the time we started trying) but I remember the chicco keyfit being recommended for cars needing to fit 3 car seats, which is what we need.
  • @holly321 Good to know! I think I'm going to have to change my registry. Thanks!

@rjgmcmanus I have a Subaru Impreza hatchback and used the Chicco Keyfit.  I don’t think my car is quite as small as yours, but I had it in the center rear seat and it worked fine.

  • @SpongeWorthy Thank you! That's helpful. My husband was cracking up at me....I spent so much time looking up safety stuff and stroller compatibility I completely forgot about SIZE for the actual car. 🤦‍♀️
  • I got a call from the doctor today saying my blood sugar levels are elevated. They want me to come in and do a 2 hour glucose test. I've been trying to read up on it online. What can I expect? They say I have to drink a super sweet drink. Is it nasty? I have a hard time keeping liquid medicine down. Is there anything I can do during the wait to make the time pass by faster?

Also, if I do end up having GD what needs to change? Will I have to have more frequent appointments?

  • @mrszoobear The two hour test is standard at my doctor’s office. The worst part (to me) was getting blood drawn 3x (initially, after 1 hr, after 2 hr). I chose the orange flavor and it was thick and tasted like a flat orange soda. I wasted time on Facebook, haha. When I was done, I went to IHOP and had an omelette... lol I was starving (I had to fast for it too)!
  • @mrszoobear the lemon lime one tastes like a flat Sprite!
  • @sunshineandlemons and @nothingbuttherain - thank you! That is very helpful.

I was worried it would taste like that stuff they make you drink before they do scans were they insert dye into your blood stream. I don't remember what it was called but they did it to me when my spleen was enlarged from mono. That office bathroom looked like a scene from the exorcist when they made me drink the stuff I was adamant I couldn't keep down.
  • @mrszoobear each office is different. I’ve been told some let their patients eat like 5 skittles where others have 1 choice of drink. I had the choice between 3 flavors and chose fruit punch. It tasted like Hawaiian Punch if you remember those from childhood. I didn’t think it was terrible.
  • @mrszoobear I have never had an issue keeping it down, but I got incredibly sick later in the day when I did the 3 hour test with my dd.  It is much more tolerable than contract for catscan/mri.  I remember the orange flavor being the worst.
  • 6w6d, FTM over here.

I'm trying to stay in good spirits here but it's very challenging. Posting this in the Question thread to see if anyone else has experienced this before with positive outcomes. TW ahead.

I started spotting 5 days ago. It was very light pink when I wiped, or light brown discharge in my underwear. It kept going from Wednesday night, through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I knew this was common so I didn't get too worried.
This morning when I went to the bathroom for a BM, I saw some bright red tissue come out from my vagina. 2 or 3 small clumps. (Sorry for TMI). I immediately panicked and laid down in bed.
Since then, I haven't bled at all. I have been laying down almost this whole time. I had to pee once and thankfully only a little brown discharge came out, no more tissue. This all started 3 hours ago.

    End TW.

Obviously I know that you ladies are not doctors and cannot confirm anything for me. But I was wondering if any of you experienced some bleeding like this during your pregnancy and had a decent outcome? My first ultrasound is tomorrow and I am just praying that I have good news tomorrow.

    Thanks.  <3
  • @mama_mea there really is no way to know, but i have had pretty bad bleeding while pregnant and been fine.
  • @holly321 thanks I appreciate your feedback. Yeah I can't know for sure until i go to my ultrasound tomorrow. Not feeling very hopeful at this point, unfortunately, but it would at least give me closure.
  • TW @mama_mea I started spotting at around 5 weeks. Went in for ultrasound at about 6 weeks and saw a heartbeat. I spotted for about 2 weeks total and it stopped. However 2 days ago I went to the restroom and had a BM and saw 2 or 3 small blood clots. For me, its never been a good thing but it hasn’t happened since. I have an appointment Weds so I’ll report back with results . Hopefully both of our babies are ok.
  • 🤞🤞Fingers crossed for you @mama_mea

I hope everything is ok and you get to hear a sweet heartbeat tomorrow!

@calibby32 @sunshineandlemons thank you so much. I will post in the ultrasound thread tomorrow to let you all know. @calibby32 I don't know about you but I'm afraid to go to the bathroom now! You can bet I'm holding it as long as I can! I will keep fingers crossed for your scan on Wednesday  <3
  • Is the Nipt pretty standard these days?  I haven’t had a kid in a long time, with dd I was told to get it, but didn’t since it was not covered.  No one mentioned it with my other pregnancies.  Is it still at out of pocket test?
  • @holly321 It’s pretty standard where I am. In my province it’s covered if you’re AMA, if the NT is measuring thick, or if you have had a previous pregnancy with chromosomal issues. We paid out of pocket for my 2.5 year old, but it has been covered for my two pregnancies after that.
  • Has anyone been feeling experiencing shortness of breath?  I've noticed a bit with exertion.  I've read that it can be caused by increased progesterone, but it makes me a little nervous.
  • @blueskychicago12 I was having that feeling week 5-6, it’s mostly died down. Although I did climb 10+ flights of stairs Friday and it definitely winded me.
  • Has anyone else started to have a decrease in symptoms? I don’t remember this with DS but it’s been 9 years. From what I’ve read it’s common to have symptoms come and go or change and I found several threads where this has happened around week 10? My boobs have become less tender the last couple of days and that’s caught me off guard.
  • @k_mama91 my boobs have become less tender in the past few weeks.  My nausea is better some days, as well, but that could be because I've found some tricks that seem to help (frequent high protein snacks and avoiding sugar).
  • @blueskychicago12 I haven’t had any real m/s, just felt nauseous if I didn’t eat frequently, that’s also getting better. The symptoms made me feel like things were ok so to have them lessening is a little unnerving.
  • @k_mama91 they say it’s normal, I’m in the same boat and it definitely gives me pause.
