@galentine yep! That's exactly why I decided not to do it. It serves no nutritional benefits. Its purely to keep them full and sleeping better. When we decided he needed more we moved right to oatmeal cereal because that at least had nutrienional value.
I am pretty sure even this is not really a proven thing, honestly. But that is def why our parents generation did it I believe. I am pretty anti-cereal. And team 'wait until 6 mo-ish' for solids. Like with many things, I just don't get the rush to start things sooner (solids, ff carseat, etc.). Some people treat things like those as 'milestones' as if it means their kid is more advanced, when really it's just a parenting decision.
Definitely a parenting thing and pediatricians vary on their thinking, too. DS1’s early pediatrician (we moved hours away so needed to switch providers) wasn’t super thrilled with the solids at 4 months, but he had already spent a month trying to grab food from us. Our current pediatrician was very much “cereal 2x per day starting at 4m” with DS2, but we definitely didn’t push it, especially with all his feeding issues. We offered, but he wasn’t really into food until closer to 8/9 months when he decided he was done taking a bottle. Then, we had to resort to cereal to get him to take the minimal amount of daily formula because he flat out refused to drink it after that point 🤷🏼♀️
@longhairdntcare@prpl11butterfly yes I’m finding that I just am not totally happy with out place, even though it came highly recommended!! I just need more communication and structure in terms of policies, etc.
but @prpl11butterfly I’m in MA too and you are right they are very tightly regulated here!! I’ve found though, that that doesn’t necessarily mean a whole lot. I know there are AMAZING home daycares out there too, ours just isn’t working right now for us.
@elle-0409, my bump isn't very pronounced yet either. It might just be wishful thinking that my bump would give me away. I actually feel like my bump has disappeared over the past 3 or 4 days. Is this a thing?? Does this happen to anyone else? Like I woke up this morning and my bump was just.... missing 😳
Uh oh, I'm stuck in the quote box! Anyways this TOTALLY HAPPENED to me as of 4/5 days ago. I've been concerned slightly but I feel that baby is still up above the pelvis and has the same strong heartbeat, so I decided it must be normal. @elle-0409 I'm glad you felt this too and Dr. Google M.D. agreed it's normal too
@SLou24 I do agree that not all are equal and just because one works for me doesn't mean it will for everyone. It's a very personal decision, this person (or people) are raising your children when you are at work and you want them to have much of the same values as you.
It was more the accountability and regulations I was commenting on. Because the state is sooo heavily involved here, not much slips through that it's acceptable (and clearly even when the parent is cool with it, the state isnt 🤷♀️)
@elle-0409 We are expats. We’ve been living in the middle east for about 6 years now. I had my first child here and will now have the second. The biggest downside for us is just being away from family. It’s been so amazing though to be able to save money and travel. We said we would only live here 2 years and here we are. I do get to go home each summer and spend about two months with family which really helps. Some of my close family members have come to visit us and that has been great. Are you planning to work? I stopped working with my first but went back and will only have maternity leave for this one. We have some teacher friends in China and they love it. I do think we will head home after next school year just because we have been away for so long and I’m ready to get back to a “normal life”. I honestly think it took about 6 months to adjust to a new way of life, culture, etc. Just be patient and open. I wouldn’t trade the past 6 years for anything.
Anyone here an expat? (I think you are, @grapeskittles4lyfe) I just found out that my husband and I might be relocating to China for a year, maybe a year and a half. It wouldn't be until after the baby is born, but she will only be a few months old. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I know there are financial pros such as not having to pay rent and getting a per diem (this would help us to pay off debt and get a house when we return to the States). However, there are many cons as well. Has anyone else relocated internationally (with or without a newborn) or have any words of wisdom?
@elle-0409 Do you know which area in China? I'm no longer an expat but I lived for China for over a year back in 2012. I have no wisdom on being there with a newborn but feel free to DM me if you have any questions about living there. I love loved my time in China and lived in 2 different cities.
@mrsinterweb I got one like that on my birthday, the day after finding out I was pregnant. At first, I thought it was morning sickness but also thought how TERRIBLE it would be if that was really morning sickness. Then I realized it was a stomach bug and that my nephew gave it to me. Hope yours passes quickly!!
@nanner26 Thank you so much for sharing! I'm trying to look at it as a beautiful once in a lifetime experience despite any fears that I may have. I do agree that living far away from family will be hard, but I haven't lived in the same state as my immediate family for 15 years, so I'm hoping that has prepped me, LOL. I'm not sure if I will work, but if I do it would be as an English tutor.
@marbellie That's awesome! We would be moving to Beijing. I will definitely send you a PM. I am so happy to hear that you had a positive experience!

@steminist Good luck to you and your bladder today!

I haven’t personally but have a friend who moved to China for work for about the same about of time with a young baby. I’d be happy to connect you - she’s awesome and would totally welcome the conversation! Let me know!
@emily1052 I know, right?! I keep thinking that I've imagined the whole thing. I don't think it will really hit me until I start to feel her kick. I hope you are well!

Pet peeves that are extra irritating today because I'm pregnant and grumpy: 1. Hand-washing bras 2. People who wrap the sheets up into a ball when stripping the bed, because now I have to unwrap the damn thing 3. Construction paper that comes in multicolored packs isn't sorted by color, but it's all mixed in so I either have to take time to sort it for my classes or deal with piles of it being tossed around because someone really wanted to find another pink page

psh - throw those suckers in the washing machine and call it a day.

And if they say hand wash, they make lingerie bags and drying racks for that

We found out today that after two wonderful girls, our third baby is a boy! Our girls were ecstatic and I keep watching the video of them finding out over and over. It was such a happy day!
Ps. I’m being a snowflake because I’m practically the last person on this board to find out and I’m pretty sure no one reads the “announce your baby’s sex” thread anymore.
@galentine - thanks for thinking of me! I was at a seminar for work last week and have this week off to actually set up our furniture in our house that we've only been living in since November (as in the kids have their stuff set up but SO and I have been sleeping on a mattress on the ground with our clothes in IKEA bags strewn around the floor). And I'm ashamed to say I mostly use TB on PC, mobile sucks for me.
This feels almost as if I should save it for tomorrow- today is DS2’s birthday. Instead of doing cake at night, we do it in the morning for breakfast. Both boys had one, and I promptly shooed them to school before the sugar rush 🙈😂
@cmbt2 Oh yay happy birthday to your little one! Smart idea to send them to school before that rush haha.
So....I forgot my smoothie so I had to eat my back up pop tarts. They're yummy an all, but all those carbs always makes me feel bleh....an my queasy stomach is back. I made coffee to help with my drowsiness but I doubt I can drink it.
Oh and DD's tantrums have continued....Yesterday was such a good day, but as soon as bed time and bath were brought up the tears and yelling started.
These are the days where I just want to go back to bed or just hid and drink wine....
@cmbt2 It's from Miss Congeniality. The pageant contestant is asked about her perfect date and describes a calendar day that she thinks is perfect, not a rendezvous with a boy.
@grapeskittles4lyfe I also only use TB on my PC. The app is too aggravating! And I'd spend way too much time on here!
Same here - I may disappear for a while next week because I'll be traveling for work and won't have much time to slack off on here. I can't stand it on mobile, it's so glitchy!
I was heating up my oatmeal in the break room this morning and saw that someone brought cake. I was “good” and just had my oatmeal. If I would have seen @cmbt2 post before then I would have definitely got myself a slice. Nothing wrong helping you celebrate your LO’s Birthday from afar, right?

We have a long extended block today during testing, and one of my students is skipping. How do I know? He is in my homeroom and showed up on time for that, told me he'd be right back at class change, and just never returned. He is a senior with an F in my class and less than 3 weeks until graduation. Dumb ass...🙄
1.Just about every teller at my local bank is preg. I adore them so it's awesome to "go though this" with them. 1 is due before me and the other 2 a couple months later.
And 2. I'm having my first legit non ham craving! I MUST have my favorite pizza from a local place. Only issue is that they sold to new owners and the son was still there but I've heard he's stepping back. Since that, I guess they've changed some things. I'm going to be heartbroken if they've ruined my pizza 😬
@cmbt2 My husband and I have joked about coming up with something silly like that, but we can't decide on anything. I think he suggested some sort of D&D thing, but I didn't understand that, so I nixed it.
Along those same lines - D&D - we saw some plush dice from the game that he totally wanted. I'll need to figure out where I saw those so he can get them for the baby. Husbands are fun. 😂
@emily1052 I'm pretty plain with pizza so nothing crazy. It's just hamburg but they use(d) one that wasn't balls of hamburg. It's shredded or something. It's been my favorite since I was a kid. God I need that damn pizza. I'm really surprised I didnt cave and get it on lunch (since I also work in town). I would have had to cook dinner and that doesn't sound fun either.
I saw a shirt that said "we're hoping it's a dinosaur" and fell in love with it.
