  • Guys, I legit laughed for the ketchup replies . Hehehe

  • Ketchup doesn't belong on anything.

Also, I typically don't discuss politics except with close friends or my husband. I have a zero tolerance policy with my mother. The minute she starts with anything political, even jokes, I ignore her. We don't have the same views, and she can't understand why I don't agree with her. She doesnt agree with me, but she can't have a civil rational discussion about it. And she believes a lot of what she reads on the internet without fact checking or reading anything other than one aource.nwhen she tries to have a conversation after I've said "mom, I'll not going to discuss politics with you," it usually ends with her crying because she "just doesn't understand." I keep my beliefs off of Facebook because of my husband's job mostly. And also because on the internet most people are set in their ways and are just looking for an argument. 🤷
  • So my counter-UO is that (covers face in shame) I actually love presidential primary season, and have since I was a kid. I have legit reasons (like energized conversations like this one! Which is amazing! And generally ideas seem to sizzle and spark during this open season) and terrible ones (I get a kick out of political theater, and the disingenuity of historical/political rhetoric is one of my professional fields of study bc I loooove it).

I thought Trump’s election would shatter my enjoyment of politics but I think it has energized a lot of people to think critically about the system, and I’m ever hopeful that this will yield long term positive results—across the whole political spectrum! (I myself am as left as left goes, and my activism and volunteer work are with similar ppl, but I believe that a more informed and involved community of all ideologies is a healthier community) (though one scary thing that’s really hard to reconcile is the vast amount of misinformation out there unfortunately).
  • I have to agree with what every one is saying I am very impressed by how civil this conversation is staying, so @suzycupcake to answer your question.
I tend to use the descriptor conservative and Republican interchangeably. That's mainly because I feel like Republican has a practical aspect of the fact I choose to call myself that, it affects which primaries I can vote in. However, I feel like conservative and liberal have mostly lost their meaning. To think that we can take a large pool of issues, each of which has a broad spectrum of opinions attached to it, and force every person to fit into one of 2 options is ridiculous. Using conservative in the traditional sense I am very conservative in my home life, areas outside of politics, for example I believe that people should not engage in premarital sex, I believe that student learn better if they are not in a co-ed environment.
However, there are things I believe, which are influenced by my religion, but some would see as more liberal. For example I believe that everything we own was given to us by G-d, and he expects us to use it to help others. That means money, time, talents, all of that should be used to help people in need, and the broader community.

(I guess I just dropped a lot of UOs...)

  • Team ketchup does not belong on anything

my belief in the bible is a huge reason why I lean more liberal on social issues. Treat your neighbor as you wish to be treated.... have you ever washed someones feet, it is a moving experience to serve someone in that way. Though not having a balanced budget drives me crazy. We should not do things we can't pay for. The average american can live that way and our government shouldn't either.

  • @Beauxbaton @zamora_spin, you are both wrong.
There is nothing like a bowl of noodle, cheese and ketchup, it is my ultimate comfort food, but the only thing that belongs on french fries is techina or cheese.

I did not even know there were people in the world who would eat ketchup on noodles (yuck) but not on regular ketchup bearing foods like french fries. What about hamburgers, do you put ketchup on a hamburger?
  • Macaroni and cheese with ketchup makes my stomach turn. I’ve never even heard of that before this thread.

  • @zamora_spin, all my OUs are coming out this thread, I won't have anything left for future weeks.
I do not eat hamburgers. Before I got married I refused to eat anything with chopped beef, DH has been slowly bringing me around, but he hasn't changed my opinion on hamburgers yet.
  • @olivemomma - Don't even get me started on one-issue voters. Just no.

  • I prefer one-issue voters to no voters. At least they have picked something they are passionate about and are trying to represent. Yes they should be more educated on how that decision impacts all areas, but better than not voting at all IMO.

  • @zamora_spin I prefer my veggie burgers plain or with spicy mustard depending on what type they are.
  • @zamora_spin 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I just laughed SO hard. Made my day.

Ketchup Belongs on French fries, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers (if you don't have honey dill, or honey mustard available)  and on top of meat loaf when cooking it.

Fries are also acceptable (and delicious) as poutine, with cheese curds and hot gravey.

When we  were little,  my sister used to put ketchup on her Mac and cheese, (and mix it up, making this disgusting, wet mushing sound)   and  it grossed me out so hard core, I would have to leave the kitchen haha.
  • @oklahomak I also love me some JB! I hope he runs! When I look at the current field I think he’s the most middle of the road and most likely to take down 45.

@database6 I can’t decide if I agree a 1 issue voter is better than a non-voter. In theory, yes, the more who vote the better and we should encourage all those eligible to exercise their right to do so. However, an uneducated voter can be a dangerous voter. Knowledge is power.

  • @olivemomma My thoughts exactly <3
  • Mac and cheese, button hot dogs (hot dogs cut small and crisped on a skillet), and ketchup are delicious together and an ultimate childhood comfort food. Also, might be my dinner very soon.

  • @oklahomak and @olivemomma I am so curious to see if he will run.

An aside, if you've never googled "Young Joe Biden," it's worth the 30 seconds.

I also want my mom's Mac and cheese so bad right now--no ketchup.

  • @mrosek91 A PLAIN veggie burger? Like, with nothing on it? Do you also drink your coffee black? Can we even be friends?

Also I've made myself very hungry for junk type food.

Ketchup only belongs on fries...although I at least understand the appeal of it on burgers, dogs and nuggets. DS(2) will put it on EVERYTHING. A few months ago he had a meltdown until I gave him ketchup for his french toast sticks, which he devoured.

Another UO, I hate dry shampoo.

@zamora_spin, they sell the "fancy" veggie burgers like mushroom risotto, or BBQ, those I eat plain. I hope we can still be friends, although to be honest I was expecting a bigger fallout from my no premarital sex stand, than my food preferences.
This thread is now making me crave mac and cheese, the right way, with ketchup.

Edited to say I drink coffee with 2 sweet 'n' low packets, and 2 things of coffee mate, or mixed with a packet of hot cocoa mix.
  • @mrosek91 Yes same!! Definitely wanting some Mac n cheese with cold ketchup on top 😋
  • I'm dying at these ketchup opinions.
@mrosek91 I'm going to have to agree with @zamora_spin on this one, I'm pretty grossed out by that description of a bowl of noodles and ketchup. But, I should confess we only have packets of ketchup in our house and those are for guests. We don't eat it. I also don't eat ground beef, so my veggie burgers get barbecue sauce. My SIL brings her own ketchup to our house.

But fries are best served covered in vinegar...am I right!? 😜

  • @mwmiller4 I don't know, I honestly never discuss it with anyone. I know people in my family/community agree with me. Everyone else I'm wary to say anything, not that it usually comes up in casual conversation, but I worry people will judge me or be offended. But maybe I watch too much TV...

My husband puts ketchup on his eggs, mac & Cheese, mashed potatos, French fries, tater tots.. burgers too of course

I am not a HUGE ketchup lover but I do occasionally like it on all of those things too (bc of him) but typically I eat everything without it except burgers and hotdogs.

To be fair, that's absolutely true, and I agree. I was just raised by one-issue voters (and that issue was entirely self motivated being taxes) that sometimes I just wish people would think more about broader impact of their vote!

  • Ketchup does not belong on mac & cheese, or eggs.

But really... what does everyone put ranch on? Because I'm eating leftover pizza dipped in ranch right now and it's pretty amazing.

But I'm not a fan of the ranch packet dinners. Why do pork chops and potatoes need to be covered in dry ranch? That's just weird to me.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!
  • I like syrup with my eggs, I’ll even put some in to scrambled eggs as I’m scrambling.

Vinegar can get far far away from my fries.

One of my earliest pregnancy cravings was ranch epecially carrots dipped in, but I’m not normally a fan.
