Re: Randoms 1/28

  • @lilpotatomama I was wondering that very same thing! I hope I remember to ask my midwife on Monday.

@lilpotatomama the doctor can feel what position the baby is in. My OB grab right above my pubic bone the other day and said "Oh hey, here's a head right here!"

ETA: I think though, if they are unsure, they will still do a quick US, but OBs for both my pregnancies have been able to tell pretty easily.

  • @MRDCle thanks! I felt silly even asking, but I thought another scan was typical towards the end. I know it’s not necessary, but I miss seeing her little face! I have to keep reminding myself that I’ll be seeing plenty of that face in a few months.
  • @lilpotatomama yes you'll see her tons soon! And don't feel silly - I didn't really know until my first pregnancy.

  • @MRDCle Is it normal to not have any more ultrasounds after the 20 week anatomy scan? My midwife hasn't mentioned anything and I keep forgetting to ask. Even though I'm AMA, they aren't considering me high risk unless something pops up.
  • @rennie1108 from what I've heard yes, that's normal unless something else comes up. With DS I had one or two in my third tri because I fell on the ice and my OB had me go in to get checked. So as long as nothing comes up, normal from my experience and the experiences of my girlfriends.

  • Thanks for the info @MRDCle!
  • If anyone needs a good laugh while I cry, today my 5 year old asked me if I’m now too heavy to use a pool float. She keeps making comments about how large I am and it’s both hilarious but also depressing.
  • @harveyisaboysname oh no! My boss was telling her 6 year old daughter about how I’m having a baby and while we were talking she said “are you adopting your baby?” and I said “no, he’s in my belly” and I lifted my sweatshirt to show her my bump and she said “oh yeah, now I can tell.” I definitely laughed, but my boss looked a little embarrassed.
  • @MRDCle she is too spoiled to not be allowed in the bed. All she has to do is flash the puppy dog eyes and she gets her way. Ugh.
@blueberrymomma I'm sure that's why she did it too I didn't walk her last night due to the absolute frigid temps. I wouldn't have even been mad if she did it in the floor tho we have hardwood everywhere.
  • DD was breech my entire pregnancy even after an attempted version.  When my water broke, doctor felt my belly and said he thought she turned.  Good thing i disagreed and we did an ultrasound because she was still breech so i needed a csection.  This ones transverse based on the kicks and punches im getting so I'll probably ask for an ultrasound around 36 weeks.

A girlfriend of mine labored for a day and when she stopped making progress, only then did they realize baby was breech.
  • Even though most doctors can tell by feel if they are head down or not, they can’t tell if the are sunny side up or not. Part of the reason I pushed for so long was because she was face up. And even though they turned her she's super stubborn and turned back. Ideal presentation is head down and face down. As far as I know sunny side up is not a big deal and it does not impede a vaginal birth.

  • @lilpotatomama, it's probably one of those things that is dependent on the hospital and practice as well.  I remember having a growth ultrasound with DS on the day I went into labor (I don't remember now if that was because I was two days "past," my due date or just normal policy).  I'm definitely going to ask at my next appointment if they'll be doing any third tri ultrasounds.

  • @thatbaintforbetty DD was sunny side up. The doctors told me that’s why I had such horrible back labor. I couldn’t even feel the contractions in my stomach until after the epidural. But other than that no complications
  • @blueberrymomma I’m lucky as I didn’t get back labor. Though I was told it’s fairly common with a sunny side up baby. I did hemorrhage but I don’t think that complication was related to her presentation. Turning her and having her turn back probably contributed to the amount of soreness I had though.

  • @harveyisaboysname children do not hold back. Haha. I’m sorry 😆

My 2 year old niece is getting impatient to meet her cousin. She walked up to me today and gave my belly a grumpy look saying, “the baby still hasn’t come out yet??” I love it. Haha.
  • @harveyisaboysname and @ysotte , you gotta love what kids will say, lol.  My son has regularly told me that I must have two babies in my tummy because I'm getting so big

  • @ysotte DD keeps praying at night that the baby comes sooner lol

@thatbaintforbetty I didn’t hemmorage with DD(sunnyside up) but I did with DS. They said it was a combination of the long (3.5 day) induction, pre-e, and couple other things. That’s what I’m most worry about this time, I don’t want to go thru that and the blood transfusions again
  • @harveyisaboysname hahaha oh my goodness, I'm sorry but that's adorable <3

  • @lilpotatomama: I don't think it's standard w/o a reason, but I get the impression that doctors often cast about for an excuse. My OB finally settled on the fact that I have Hashimoto's because low thyroid is a growth risk, despite the fact that my thyroid hasn't been low for one second this pregnancy and I've been measuring right on target all the way. He said, "We have to find something for the insurance company." Ha.
  • DD can open childproof pill bottles now. She’s not even 21 months. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
  • Back at work in the office today after working from home/not working at all the past two days due to the crazy polar vortex that hit the midwest. What a lazy day, yes it's busy playing catch up, but at the same time it feels like it's one of those quiet paperwork days. So ready for tomorrow, date day/night with DH since my parents are picking up DD and not bringing her back until Sunday afternoon. What am I going to do with a quiet house for two days?! (Probably sleep until 8 but that's yet to be determined lol).

@professormama enjoy that massage! So needed this late in the game!

  • UGh I was a zombie this morning. I only made it an hour of work and made DH come pick me up and drop me off at home where I crashed. I feel bad because we carpool and he had to drive 45 minutes each way.

  • @lilpotatomama The bras are bought were these ones https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0792T9WPQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1  They're ok.  I think I'm so used to 15 years of wearing underwire, formed cup bras that these are odd to me.  They have little pad inserts, 2 of the 3 (not sure why not all) have the detachable straps so you can cross them.  It also came with a little bag for the laundry and extender clips.  For the price, I'm happy.

  • @thatbaintforbetty ugh campfire smell is a migraine trigger for me too

I had my 3 hour glucose this morning. Fingers crossed I passed
  • @professormama Jealous! Hope you enjoyed the massage. Sounds like a good day.
  • @professormama, I hope it was an awesome massage!  I just used a gift certificate last Friday for my first "official," massage and it was amazing.  45 minutes went by way too fast.  Unfortunately I don't think I would ever pay for one myself with how much they cost, which is a bummer because the masseuse I had was really good.

Going into the two weekend days without DH around as he is away for training.  Wish me luck!  And send warm thoughts this way... ❄ I'm ready for spring!

  • @kangstadt @ysotte yes, the massage was amazing! I’ve never paid full price for a massage either (only ever had one once before this, and that was a gift card too if I remember correctly). But I totally got suckered by a special they were running and I actually booked a couples massage for a surprise Valentine’s Day present for my husband. I justified it because we are on a shopping moratorium for the month of Feb, so I can’t buy him any stuff. Also I just really wanted an excuse for another massage. Hah.
  • The bump wouldn’t let me post or login all day...

I've never had a massage. Outside of PT for injury or the hubs giving me a massage.

With my last pregnancy they didn’t check position with an ultrasound and baby was transverse most of the time. She didn’t quite go head
down all the way and that’s why I was in labor for 4.5 days. She was head down on my pelvic bone. Anyway, now I know to ask for them to check if labor isn’t progressing and to be more powerful in voice about what I’m feeling. I think they brushed me off as “nervous first time mom”. Anyway, this guy is back out and to the left and head down since 20weeks for sure and I can feel his rump a few times a day when he sticks it out.

To the mama  who wants an elective c-section, it sounds like you are having a lot of anxiety about birth in general. I highly recommend you ask to speak to a counselor at your next obgyn appointment. They can help you make the right decisions for you and baby and it is wise to make sure someone knows how you are feeling. There are things they can do to help you reduce anxiety and prepare. And they can check in after tomhelp debrief the birth. Anyway, something to think about.

I have a memorial service to go to to go to tomorrow for a co-worker who died suddenly two weeks ago in a car accident. She was only 18 and it’s sad and I’m sad. Sometimes everything feels like too much.

  • I'm so sorry @kbirchtree , that's awful :frowning:.  Take some time for yourself this weekend if you can.  Reading is usually my escape when everything feels like too much.

  • @kbirchtree I second what @kangstadt said. I’m so sorry and I hope you can find some time for peace and rest this weekend.
  • @professormama et al, I think massages are too expensive to have often but they’re like my favorite thing. I get one once or twice a year as a birthday present “from my husband” that I really just scheduled myself. Haha. I’ve had one prenatal massage and I hope to have one other before baby is here, as a birthday gift because this kid is due on my birthday. lol.

@kbirchtree I’m so sorry. I hope the memorial service helps you and your coworkers process and remember her well. That’s so awful.
  • @kbirchtree I’m so sorry. That’s a lot to process.
  • So my SO wants sex all the time and i just don't. I don't feel attractive, it actually hurts a bit, and I just generally don't feel well. This morning he kept touching me and making it clear he wanted sex. I pushed him away a couple times and when he didn't stop I broke down crying. I'm a mess
  • @stefanielyn1991 it sounds like your SO is being incredibly selfish and inconsiderate. Sex is supposed to be mutually desired and enjoyable. If it’s not, which at this stage of pregnancy, it’s not very fun for a lot of women, then sex should be off the table. And he REALLY shouldn’t be making you feel bad if you don’t want it or be pushing you for something you’ve made clear you don’t want. It sounds like he needs to do some hard thinking about consent and what sex SHOULD be about (mutual pleasure).

In triage for the EKG my midwife ordered the other day, plus an additional battery of tests due to spotty vision. I feel so awful today that I didn’t even realize they’d be doing a sonogram. I have a big girl on my hands! And she’s head down!

@stefanielyn1991 yeah, agree with @professormama. That isn’t okay. I hope you’re able to have an honest talk with him about this.
