@brie_and_almonds@DuchessOfCambridge I witnessed a vaginal birth in nursing school clinical and the baby was born en caul. It was seriously the coolest thing I've ever seen, and that mom was a freaking rockstar.
@poshspice - I've found with twin pregnancy everything is more intense. I definitely have symptoms I didn't have before with my first. Like the acne thing, it's the dead of winter and usually I have to slather myself from head to toe in lotion to keep my skin from flaking off. Now I have to swab astringent over my nose and forehead after my shower to keep the oil at bay and even then I have a shiny face by noon. Welcome back to being 16, without the benefit of young, spry joints and bountiful energy. And man, am I hot. MW was complaining about our house temperature yesterday and I told her to put on a sweater. I'm already uncomfortable enough. Oh, and my belly stretching, sheesh! My SIL gave me tummy butter to rub on the areas that are stretching too fast. I have to put it on every day.
I wish I could feel the babies moving more inside me but there's so much stuff in there padding them from my uterus (2 placentas plus umbilical cords and extra amniotic fluid) that I just feel flutters. But if I put my hands on my upper abdomen and press gently I can feel them squirming against my hands. I told my wife because I thought she'd be excited and then she was like "Ewwwwww aliens!" Lol I admit, it is pretty weird. When DS was close to being born I'd see his butt rolling along my skin and it reminded me of the scene from Alien. Pregnancy is so weird.
The last two days I have been having cramps in my lower abdomen from 2pm-4pm and then they go away. They are really uncomfortable and I don't know if it's the baby sitting on something (the pain is similar to bladder infection pain) or if I'm experiencing Braxton Hicks or what. Thinking of calling my midwife tomorrow if it happens again.
@kaitcrystalline I get cramps/BH and find it happens mostly at night. I feel like it's almost like my muscles are tired from holding up my belly all day and they start to cramp.
@wishiwaspreggo my husband ALWAYS brings that up when I tell him baby is moving. Although the other night I compared it to eating Mexican food and having the gurgles 😂 he was like "oh, I HATE that feeling, how do you like that?" .... Because it's not Mexican food 😂
@wishiwaspreggo Haha, my husband also says I have an alien inside me. My stomach is stretching and pulling and it is so uncomfortable, I can only imagine how you feel, ugh!
@troystory17 totally on the same page! I've been trying to be good about doing 3 reps of 10 kegels a day and hope it will get better, bc it can't get much worse😂
@sleepy33 thanks for sharing! I don't know what I'm feeling. It definitely doesn't feel like sore muscles, feels more internal if that makes sense. Hopefully it goes away!
Does anyone actually get any of the magical “positive” second trimester symptoms? I keep reading about second trimester is supposed to turn you into some sort of mythical pregnancy goddess with glowing skin, perfect hair, never ending energy and an insatiable sex drive. I’m beginning to think it’s all an elaborate hoax to convince women that pregnancy isn’t really all that bad.
My my nose is runny, I can’t sleep, I’m too exhausted to wash my hair much less put on makeup most days, I leek pee every time I sneeze or cough (or even sometimes just from standing up), I‘m hungry constantly but eating a full meal gives me stomach pain, my sex drive is completely gone and I just sort of generally feel like a big unruly ogre most of time.
+1 for the migraine club. My aura started right as I was supposed to pi k DD2 up from daycare. Thankfully DH was able to get her because I was not safe to drive. Now 2 hours (and 2 extra strength Tylenol) later, I'm going to bed early and praising my DH for being SuperDad flying solo tonight.
@kaitcrystalline have you tried puppy pose to see if taking some pressure off helps? if it's the same time each day, do you think you're water intake goes down around then or something?
@beccaneu ha I'm absolutely living the amazing pregnancy hair but mine is thin to begin with so this happened last time, too. I was not into sex last pregnancy but just got taken off of pelvic rest (since 9 weeks) and it's actually been better than literally ever before this week. I did just wean DD, though. On the other hand, I feel you on the pregnancy rhinitis, hunger, and stomach pains. I somehow have escaped the bladder leakage issue although I think that had been part of my lack of enjoyment from sex previously and pushing a baby out loosened things up down there (too graphic??).
@beccaneu my hair is definitely thicker and falling out less. My nails are SO much stronger. My energy level is also a lot better. However, my sex drive doesn’t exist. It’s not there. My nose bleeds every day. I’m constantly hungry. I’m in constant pain. I don’t sleep. I feel like I got a few positive symptoms but it mostly sucks.
@beccaneu my hair is awesome. It never gets greasy anymore. I wash it after a while because I *should* but it doesn't feel or look dirty. Before pregnancy I washed it every 3-4 days but now I can go over a week and look like it was freshly washed. Aside from throwing up at random, I'm really enjoying this time, it's good for me.
@troystory17 yep, baby girl likes to kick me in the bladder. I pee alllll the time. I wasn't like this until closer to third tri with DS
I don’t Normally hang out in the symptoms thread but im feeling things much earlier on this pregnancy. And I feel as big now as I was at 35 weeks with my first. I got rid of my maternity belt from last time and I need a new one because my front feels like it’s stretching and something hurts in a weird area that I can’t undersrand. dh just bought me a pregnancy pillow which was much needed. Also i recommend the always panties. My water never broke until the dr did it after I’d been in labor for a while, and I imagine it won’t this time because I’m having a c section. But I used those panties for PP bleeding. And they came in handy when I couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time once. They can hold A LOT of fluid. Lol. It was so hard to get out of bed after the C-section. And we already have a waterproof mattress cover. They said it was required for our warranty and it’s an easy protection. Especially if you plan on bedsharing.
@DuchessOfCambridge my hair has had nearly the exact opposite reaction. I used to be able to go a week in between washings no problem, now it’s a greasy mess in 2-3 days and still somehow dry and frizzy
Anyways nice to know some of you ladies are enjoying better hair 😂
@DuchessOfCambridge, I am finding the same with my hair. I use to wash it every 2-3 days, now I am going 5-6 days and it doesn’t get greasy, even after the gym, it seems to dry and look fine. My skin though which is normally very dry, feels even drier.....I can’t put enough cream in my face and it still feels dry
@beccaneu my positive symptoms are definitely my nails (growing so fast!) and my hair is so full, and greasy level hasn't gotten bad The only downside to all my hair growing faster is that all my hair grows faster, including this annoying chin hairs.
@dAsch14 Thanks for the advice! I have started doing that and I do feel like I don't cringe when I get up from certain positions as much already.
It's been interesting to see my husband's reaction to my symptoms. Generally, I am the caretaker and he usually isn't very good at noticing if I'm really sick or anything because I hide it well. With this pregnancy, he sees me struggling and it is blowing his mind. He can't believe I am getting through the day haha. He keeps saying, "You're never like this, you must be so uncomfortable" and does little things to help. It has definitely brought out the caretaker in him and it reminds me that he is going to be such a good dad.
@eatinwatermelonseeds that sounds really really painful! But you are a real trooper, pun intended. 😋 How are you feeling today?
There was a bunch of other stuff I wanted to reply to but I can't remember now.
One thing I do highly recommend for PP bleeding are the Always Extra Heavy pads (picture below). They were the perfect protection for me even more than the hospital pads. I prepared them in advance by dousing them with witch hazel and tucks pads and then freezing them. I've only found them available at Target, though.
I like feeling my babies move, and all food tastes like magic because I'm so damn hungry all the time. But those are my only two positive symptoms. No energy, no sex drive, no beautiful hair or nails, greasy skin, peeing myself all the time, and waddling like a duck.
@expandcontract a lot better today, thanks. I'm babysitting, but I need to get my house clean anyway. He's playing and I'm just walking around aimlessly pretending to clean 😂
I was so dramatic yesterday begging my friend to find someone else to babysit because I felt so miserable. She felt terrible because she couldn't find anyone else. Then I woke up this morning and felt fine 😂 oops.
@expandcontract I used those same Always extra long pads after #2. I threw a bunch of when we moved in July because I bought way too many and didn't want to move them 1200 miles 😏
@beccaneu o have way more positives than negatives right now. I wouldn't say I feel 100% normal, but way more than first tri. My energy has basically normalized, most food tastes fine now (I had a *lot* of aversions), I only pee a ton because I drink a ton, nails are strong and long, sex drive us up. The only "symptoms" I'm really having are getting hungry faster, wanting more protein than usual (and I am a big protein eater as it is), and feeling this little guy moving and getting hiccups. But I know what's coming third trimester so I'm basking in this right now.
@eatinwatermelonseeds you were NOT being dramatic! You had just passed a kidney stone. Seriously. Cut yourself some slack, girl. And besides, you should be resting today, anyways.
@imrachellea They're the best. After using them myself, I gave extra to my sister who was experiencing heavy heavy periods at the time due to premenopause or something like that.
Is anyone else’s baby already constantly burrowing into their ribs or just jabbing you in the stomach? I don’t remember this happening as much with ds!
@aels12 I am the opposite. I am feeling her super low all the time with jabs under my hip bones, deep down in my pelvis, etc. With my first she was always up high in my ribs.
I am VERY light headed today. Didn't get a chance to check my blood pressure at home. Thankfully, I have a desk job and I don't need to travel today. But even while sitting Im dizzy.
@expandcontract check your local grocery store for those pads. My local Giant and Shoprite carry them (dont know what you have).
TW i used those after all my miscarriages and those were the only ones i stood a chance not messing up the bed with them, though sometimes they wouldn’t even last an hour. Tw
I woke up three times last night throwing up from heartburn, i finally passed out around 6am clutching a handful of tums. I had to get back up at 830 and gagged myself with a toothbrush and ended dry heaving so hard i peed some. Today is not starting off to be a good day. I might go back to sleep after my dr apt and DH goes to work.
Ugh @justharrison ! That sounds like an awful morning! Thankfully it's Friday (I can't remember if you work or are a SAHM)! Are you sleeping on an incline at all? Also, yes, I did check my local grocery stores and Walmart (I don't have a Giant and Shoprite where I live) for those pads but nobody but Target carries them. Thankfully, Targets are plentiful here!
@aels12 I’m on the same boat as @teesmee. I only feel her low, down by my colon. It’s so bad because it makes me feel like I constantly have to fart with howniften she kicks me in the colon. Her feet are down by the lowest part of my descending colon, though.
@aels12 ugh I'm sorry. I don't remember how early DD started going crazy but she was the most active baby my OB has ever treated according to her. DH is convinced this is a boy since the baby is a lot more chill so far, but I don't know if DD was hurting me yet (I'm 22 weeks today and just can't remember from last time).
Just threw up for the first time thisn pregnancy (other than when I had the stomach flu). That was horrible. 😭 Must have drank too fast or something but my virgin bloodies came up.
@cwell2016 is your pain directly in the middle or more to one side? If it's to one side it could be sacroiliac pain and you may benefit from wearing a belt, but see what your chiro says! I think a physio might be better for sacroiliac pain though as it's muscular not skeletal that causes the issue. @brie_and_almonds I've been in the belt on & off since 13 weeks, so don't feel bad about being in it so early!.
@dAsch14 that's an excellent exercise! To take it to the next step try doing it without using your hamstrings whilst in the sitting position.
I'm also getting cramping @kaitcrystalline and mentioned it to my OB who said it was nothing to worry about. It feels like a really horrible period cramp and I get them fairly regularly, but then I'm also constipated from the zofran I'm on so and have loads of gas, it could just be that? Let me know what your midwife says if you end up calling her!
@beccaneu +1 to hair being oily but frizzy! The top layer is really dry but as soon as you go under that it's a filthy, oily mess. I refuse to wash my hair more than once a week (I have platinum blonde hair and washing it regularly is so, so bad for it) so living in ponytails between washes.
Not really a symptom more a body change, over the last couple of weeks my stomach has become covered in long, black hairs! It started with one or two and now it's the whole damn thing! I'm going to book in for a wax once I'm 6 weeks post op (from my oophorectomy, not delivery) and my incisions can handle the extra tugging that a wax will bring on.
I am loving all these baby movements too! They're starting to get more and more consistent, but no patterns yet. I do notice that it is more active when I am less active though.
