I'm feeling the babies move like woah! They get pissed when I'm hungry feeling two babies move simultaneously is so bizarre. I kind of envy twin moms who have never been pregnant before because I keep comparing everything to my first pregnancy and moan because I anticipate what's ahead. When I was roughly 30 weeks with DS I ate dinner at Cracker Barrel and I guess he was so happy about the buttery biscuits that he kicked me square in the bladder and I peed myself.
Not to mention my symptoms are double what they were at this point in my pregnancy. I can't stand for more than 10 minutes at a time without my maternity belt. With DS I went on a road trip with my parents at 31 weeks and was happily walking daily with no problems. I have to strap myself in my belt to prepare a meal at home or do a grocery store run I'm very worried about my mobility in a couple months.
@wishiwaspreggo when I was in the military, my coworker's wife was pregnant with twins. I was close with them, and my coworker didn't have a driver's license (or a cell phone) so his wife called our boss and our boss called me, everyone panicking because her water broke. So, our boss rushes her in, and I rush my coworker to the hospital and we're all in there when the doctor gets in, and he's like "so, it wasn't amniotic fluid. It seems one of the babies must've bounced your bladder." Her face dropped "so I peed myself." "Well...." 😂 Poor woman was so embarrassed she'd caused such a ruckus and I found it hilarious. About 5 years later, I got pregnant and had a similar thing happen. Karma is a bitch sometimes 😂
@eatinwatermelonseeds - OMG, that poor woman!! That must've been a big rush of pee if she thought her water broke! I only had a little squirt but it was still annoying. Now my 3 year old enjoys running at me head down to slam into my pelvis I have to put my hands out to protect myself. He's crazy.
When my water broke it was pretty obvious... I was sitting on the toilet and I was peeing but I didn't have the sensation of my bladder emptying. I was like "Uh... what's going on?" and I stood up and fluid kept coming out like someone turned on a faucet. Off to the hospital and 12 hours later, there's DS!
@wishiwaspreggo same when my water broke. I was just sitting down but had been in labor for 14 hours already. Stood up when I felt it and it soaked my pants down to my feet. I went to the bathroom to clean up, changed pants, then with the next contraction, the same thing with just slightly less fluid happened. We used a puppy pee pad in the car and luckily I only had one contraction on the way (one right before getting in and one right when I got out) I'd been told by my last BMB to use the pee pads under you while you sleep when you get home but they were a godsend to make sure the car was kept clean on our way.
@kvh22 The pee pad idea is BRILLIANT! My water broke in bed, and I was just starting to think about what to do this time about that potential. I rolled up a towel and sat on it, while wearing a black dress so it wouldn't show all the fluid. I did shower before we left, so I was hoping that took care of getting a lot of it out. I didn't know what else to do.
As far as symptoms, my back heating pad has been working overtime. I don't remember my back pain being so bad until later in the pregnancy last time.
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI, then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.
Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW, because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!
My water never really broke last time. My midwife came in to check on me after the epidural and was super confused, feeling around the bed and was like "um, did you feel any fluid gush or anything?" "I don't feel anything" 😂 "okayyyy.... Well, your membranes have ruptured, but there's no fluid at all down here." It all squirted out when he came lol. That was pretty ideal, so here's to hoping that happens again.
Hey all. Does anyone else feel like they’re still stuck in the first trimester? I’m past 20 weeks but still experiencing nausea and some vomiting, and for the last week I’ve been as tired as 1st tri. I’m still waiting on the happy energetic 2nd trimester I was promised!
In better news, feeling the baby move has been incredibly cool, and I’m grateful for that every day.
@eatinwatermelonseeds that's how mine was. I had a very slow leak for a day or so before I finally went in and they confirmed it was positive for amniotic fluid. His head was so big and so jammed into my pelvis that it was like a plug in a drain keeping all the fluid inside.
@shumbum Yes! I am not vomiting anymore but I still get nauseous, eating has been such a challenge, and I just feel rundown. I feel deceived. There is no glowing here! One of my friends said she felt best in the 3rd trimester because she was sick so much in the first and second so maybe that is how we will be.
@eatinwatermelonseeds and @wishiwaspreggo I was also that person who went to L&D twice because I thought my water had broken. Nope, I just lost all control on my bladder and leaked from 37 weeks on b/c DD was sitting on it. It was embarrassing. I gotta look into some pregnancy depends this time.
I am so terrified of having an embarrassing water breaking story and now that you have added the thought of bladder issues to the mix, I will probably be joining @chloe97 and wear depends when it gets close to the date just in case😆
Not gonna lie, ladies. I was rocking adult diapers the final few weeks of pregnancy. I just couldn't take it anymore. I leaked pee when I sat down, stood up, walked around, sneezed, or coughed. And of course I got a wretched head cold around that time too so I was a mess. When you get to the end of 3rd trimester you forget about dignity and just do whatever you can to get even the smallest amount of comfort back.
@shumbum and @lappymom2019 sounds very familiar! I just left work today around 12 noon because I had been throwing up at work and so very nauseous. I've had almost nothing to eat anything all day because I feel so sick today. I just don't know what causes one day to be sooooo bad and another to be not so bad.
@wishiwaspreggo yes. I remember going pee, standing up and peeing myself. Pretty much every time. I tried so hard to wiggle and bend to get it all out and as soon as I stood up, more fell out 😂
Nothing has improved my tailbone pain. It hurts most when I try to stand up from a sitting position, which I do like 50 times a day at work. I have a donut pillow and tried yoga for a few weeks. I am scheduled to see a chiropractor in the next week and hoping for some relief. Otherwise, I told my staff they'd have to roll me around in my rolly chair all day 🤣
If you don't want to buy puppy pee pads, at one of my appointments with my first I just asked for those waterproof things they make you sit on and they happily gave me a bunch! They broke my water for me at the hospital so we never used them, they're still in our glove compartment haha
@DuchessOfCambridge those are called Chuck's pads if anyone wants to ask for them. You can buy a large amount on Amazon for $30 too 😂 but apparently good nites makes a pad for beds that's pretty cheap.
Buy yourself a pack of Depends. If your water breaks at home, put one on for your trip to the hospital. Voila. Dry clothes, dry car. They will throw it away for you when you get to the hospital, don’t worry.
I was in denial about being in labor until my water water broke in bed at 1:00 am. I was at that point and am already now wearing Always dry liners (yup, the step above panty-liners) for my insane amounts of daily discharge. Anyway I had one on, I literally felt/heard a pop during a contraction and knew it was my water breaking. I ran to the bathroom, and the dry liner was full by the time I got there but I made it to the toilet without getting amniotic fluid in my bed or on my carpet! #winning Which was very lucky, because mine had a lot of blood in it for some reason. It wasn’t clear water like on TV. Anyway, I had DH grab me a Depends out of my closet and I put that on while I put my contacts in, changed my clothes, and threw the rest of what I needed into my hospital bag. 👍 The Depends was such a good idea and I will use them again this go round.
Well, I broke down and ordered a pregnancy support belt, because the bottom of my belly has been so sore at the end of the day. I'm feeling like it's way too early for this (and also yesterday I wore a top that I wore at 40 weeks in my first pregnancy and it barely covered my belly). I'm scared of how big/umcomfortable I will be by the end of this one 😳. Third pregnancy body does not f around.
@poshspice - YES!!! I strapped a diaper on after my water broke and my car was dry when I got to the hospital. The nurse put me on a bed full of pee pads. I kept apologizing as she had to change them out like, every 10 minutes because I was leaking so bad. She got mad at me for saying I was sorry. Can't help it, I'm not used to my body leaking fluids everywhere and having someone else have to clean them up for me. Despite it being "natural" it's quite embarrassing for ladies not regularly exposed to that sort of thing! I understand doctors and nurses have seen it all but I sure haven't
@brie_and_almonds - Girl, you won't regret your maternity belt! I felt the same way, like wtf, how do I need this at 18 weeks? Yes, it's twins, but my cousin is having twins and she's ahead of me by 10 weeks and she's perfectly fine without one. But she's also 6 years younger than me, a basketball coach (quite fit), and it's her first pregnancy. I think the 2nd (and subsequent) pregnancies are harder since your body's already gone through the wear and tear of a first one. But yeah, the belt helps me *so* much. Excellent purchase. And FWIW, I'm also terrified of how big I'll get. My OB measured my uterus yesterday and it's 6 months in size. I'm only 4 months along. And my babies are both in the 93rd percentile in weight and length. That's excellent news since bigger babies fare better if they're premature but - my poor body
@wishiwaspreggo I made the mistake of measuring my belly and comparing it to the "pregnancy journal" measurements I jotted down last time... I'm measuring bigger now than I was at 32 weeks then 😫.
I need to see if I can dig out some pictures of my mom at the end of her twin pregnancy... that was a sight to see. The nurses said my brothers were the biggest twins to be born at the (rural) hospital they were born at.
I just got the amazon basics puppy pads. I've seen people cut them in half and use them over their changing pad while out and for various other things. I'm saving mine for postpartum to put in bed again but depends does sound brilliant.
@brie_and_almonds@wishiwaspreggo I needed the support belt at 8 weeks last pregnancy (which was my first). DH and I went on a hike at 6 weeks and he had to carry me the last 100 yards or so to the car I was in so much pain so should have used it earlier. For some reason, I was in extreme pain if I walked more than a mile with that pregnancy from very early on. Also, turning over in bed hurt from late first trimester onwards. I'm not a runner really but I was running pretty frequently that pregnancy (had been in a groove before getting pregnant). Since I can't run this pregnancy, I've wondered if that has anything to do with it but I only stopped running at 8 1/2 weeks (DH traveled right before my big bleed at 9 1/2 weeks) and I've been fine, even before that which wasn't the case with my first so no clue what's going on. The belt was a lifesaver for me though. Didn't eliminate the pain but made it drastically better!
@cwell2016 I had some terrible tailbone/sciatic nerve pain in my first pregnancy. I went to physical therapy for it after delivery. The exercise they told me to do is butt cheek clenches. Just as many as you can do every day. I try to do them while I'm brushing my teeth and blow drying my hair most days. Couldn't hurt to try!
@kvh22 - Oh my! I didn't even feel pregnant at 8 weeks other than some moderate nausea sucks that the pain started so early for you. Thankfully pregnancy is a temporary condition.
Other symptoms I've noticed recently: I am very warm. I parked far this morning and went back to my car this afternoon wearing a t-shirt and pants, no jacket, in 50 degree weather. It felt like 70 degrees to me, very pleasant! Usually I can't handle being without a coat unless it's above 65 degrees. I'm also getting zits on my forehead. That's fun. Oh, and majorly increased appetite. 2nd lunches and 2nd dinners are a thing now.
@wishiwaspreggo yes!! Adult diapers are the way to go, man. No shame. My last BMB told me about it and other people from DD's BMB finally got on the Depends bandwagon for their second kids and they did not regret it! And oh man, once I was one the bed the nurses were constantly wiping up fluid and blood and changing out the puppy pads. Con.stant.ly. They've seen it all, though! The delivery nurses I had were so much better than the PP nurses in the mom and baby unit. Also, you're warm already? Man, twin pregnancy is crazy. I don't think I got super hot until the last two months with DD.
@kvh22 I might put a puppy pad or something under me in bed once I lose the mucus plug, but adult diapers are infinitely better than leaking through your clothes onto a pee pad.
It was recommended to me to just buy a water proof mattress pad for the bed. This is multifunctional. A) keeps the mattress clean and dry if you're water breaks in bed, keeps out clean and dry if you're nursing when baby starts STTN, C) keeps it cleans and dry if you have baby on your bed and they throw up, have a blow out, have a diaper off for some reason. We got a nice quilted one so it's quiet and comfy, but easily washable if needed. I also kept an old towel in my car from about 35 weeks on in case my water broke while we were away from home or for the ride to the hospital. (None of this was necessary for me as I was induced and water broken at the hospital both times for both).
@imrachellea we got a waterproof mattress for our bed when I was pregnant with DS too! We still use it even though we don't need it anymore. Like I said above, my water was broken for me, but it was still great for the various other things you said. So so so much leaking. I'd wake up and my shirt would be so wet and it was terrible DS definitely spit up on our bed multiple times.
@poshspice I got Depends last time and didn't end up using them at all, but I want to get a small pack this time just in case. I was also pretty angry because I super much did not want a CS and I'd made padsicles and Dependsicles and cried while I threw them out and just gave away all my postpartum supplies since I didn't need them. I was bleeding, sure, but the Depends also didn't feel good on my incision. We'll see how it goes this time.
I get nauseous here and there still, but it's not as awful as it was. However, now I will all of a sudden feel terrible and need to run to the toilet. I feel better after I throw up buttttt I'm looking forward to that phase being done.
@DuchessOfCambridge ugh I’m so sorry. There’s no way you could have predicted that. TBH I was so swollen and uncomfortable after labor I only used a few pairs of the Depends for PP bleeding and mostly used the giant mesh underwear and giant pads from the hospital. But they were really handy for getting to the hospital when I was in labor!
@imrachellea we also got a waterproof liner. @poshspice yes, that probably would be better. I can't remember if I ever actually leaked out onto them postpartum or what. Are there depends samples lol? It would have been nice on the way to the hospital but I'm not sure I would have used it otherwise. I though the mesh underwear and pads were fine postpartum like you mentioned above.
This was a good thread! As a FTM and not having any friends who have had a baby yet, I had no idea that you could still leak after your water broke (going off movies here). I never would of thought to have depends on hand for the car ride to the hospital or to line the bed the last couple of weeks! Thanks STM's!
As far as symptoms goes my back has been hurting if I walk for more then an 45mins on the track for exercise. @brie_and_almonds I also bought a belly band for walking. Tomorrow will be my first time trying it! Also I feel like my baby has been sitting on my bladder the last couple of days, so that's uncomfortable. Finally, I just feel huge! I have definitely gained weight and I'm showing for sure (23 weeks). My midwife isn't concerned with my weight gain at all but cutting back on the cookies is something I'm trying to do.
With my first, I was sleeping when my water broke and it was like wave of water everywhere, all over my clothes and in my hair. With my second it happened again, but I was only dozing and knew what it was and did this roll off the side of the bed. None got on the mattress. I was proud of myself. Haha
FYI only like 1 in 10 women have their water break prior to labor. Hollywood and movies make it seem like that’s how it always starts.

Yes! This is so misleading. My water didn't break with either of my kiddos until I was at the hospital in active labor and the docs broke it. On my last BMB (I think...), someone had a baby who was born "en caul," meaning still in the sac

I feel like I popped on Friday. RLP all day everyday since then and I also got a bunch of people coming up to me only now realizing I'm pregnant.
