Wouldn't be the holidays without a trip to the urgent Care. DS ran into a piece of furniture and busted his lip open. Right now popsicles and antibiotics (to prevent infection) return tomorrow to see if it needs stitches or if it is healing correctly. Just love being thousand miles from your pediatrician. *Sarcasm*

At least it happened in 2018 when we had already met our cap. A week later and I'd be a little more annoyed.
  • Feel like I’ve been missing out on so much. Our holiday was lovely and it was so fun seeing the Christmas magic through our two year olds eyes.

wish I could stay in bed and watch movies tonight, but my in laws offered to babysit and they leave tomorrow so feel like we got to take advantage of date night!

Ill probably be pretty quiet this week soaking up family time before real life has to start again- but I promise to blow up the message boards in the new year 😜

random- does anyone have any fun ideas they do for NYE? Dinner traditions? All I know is we will be doing “east coast” new year aka celebrating at 9pm then I’m out haha
  • @whitney812 we dont have any nye traditions but this year we are going to my old bosses house for surf and turf.  Everyone is bringing their own meat and seafood and then we will potluck the sides. Previous years we have had people here but I am over entertaining anyone.
  • @catmommac that sounds miserable. I hope the rest of your move goes smoothly.

The list of people we have to see for Christmas keeps getting smaller. My niece has a staph infection so BIL and SIL aren't going to travel. And DHs aunt has shingles so we aren't going to visit them.

I am oddly okay with it. I will miss seeing BIL/SIL but that means we get to "celebrate" NYE at home rather than attempt to go out.
  • @ki1244 That is so sweet! Your nephew sounds like a doll.
  • Nephew (and niece too) is for sure precious. They're great kids.

Can I vent a first-world problem? So DH and I are looking at a possible babymoon after all. YAY. Our happy place, as we've talked about in other threads, is Disney. But he's also a huge Red Sox fan (so I am by marriage) and he worked for the triple A team in college, so since they're moving in 2021 (I had thought it was in 2020), we were also looking at going back to Massachusetts/RI for a couple days to see a game or two there before they head out to Worcester and assume the dumbest name in baseball. BUT...

DH's grandparents have a beach house in the Outer Banks where we go every year to visit his family over the 4th of July. That's...not likely this year, if I deliver anywhere around my due date (6/25). I'm not taking a two-week-old out for 10 days at a beach with my in-laws while I'm probably still leaking things. But his grandparents, who are within a couple years of the same age as my parents (DH's mom was 18 when she had him and my parents were older when they had me), essentially refuse to come visit us. They're retired and travel a decent amount, just for whatever reason find excuses to never come out to see us, so if we ever want to see them, it means we fly to them. DH's grandfather wouldn't even commit at first to driving up to DC from Virginia Beach (so like 3.5 hours, and his son lives there so free place to stay) to see them over New Years, but was perfectly willing to let us drop $1400 to fly to them for Christmas. But without going into more than is necessary, DH's dad was super crappy while growing up so his grandpa is like a father figure to him. They're nice enough to me, I think because I'm married to their favorite grandchild (they don't even try to hide that), but they're SUPER mean to their DIL behind her back and I have no illusions that they give a rat's behind about me other than the fact that I married DH.

So, for this babymoon, we could go to Disney...or we could go to Virginia Beach. I'll clearly have more fun at Disney (at their house, inevitably, every time we visit, DH and his grandfather go out running errands ALL DAY and I spend the day at home or running errands with his grandma, and we might see each other for dinner and then sit around watching Netflix with them until they pass out on the couch). But I also would feel bad denying DH the opportunity to see his grandparents this year, since we won't in the summer at the beach house (and I can say with nearly 100% certainty they won't be coming out to meet Baby, despite it being their first great-grandchild).

Again...first world problem. I feel kinda gross typing this, even (oh boo hoo, we might not get to vacation in my preferred location!). But it's still bumming me out today to give up the Disney idea.
  • So my brother got engaged over Christmas .Yay!  They will likely have the wedding in Jamaica (where his fiance is from) and are looking at next September.  If the baby is born around my due date, she will be 3 months old then.  Would you feel safe taking a 3 month old to Jamaica?  She will have had her first round of shots by then.  Anything I see says they need to at least be 3 months old to go on a plane.  I'm so torn because that seems so young to travel but I don't want to miss my only siblings wedding either.  My parents would be going to obviously so I couldn't leave her here and also that would suck to leave her so young.
  • @sparklingdiamond I would take her. She won't be eating food by then so you don't have to worry about anything like that. If you bottle feed I would just bring bottles with the plastic inserts so that you can just throw the inserts out instead of washing them. (We took DS to the Dominican Republic and washed everything in bottled water and it was terribly annoying.)
  • @ki1244 Mention it to your DH, but I would totally go to Disney. You’re so excited for it, and a baby moon is about you and DH spending quality time alone together before the baby comes. Obviously that isn’t going to happen going to his grandparents.

  • @dntstpbelieveing thanks!  I think I'm most worried about the fact that she won't have had all her shots yet at that age and then travelling to a foreign country. How old was your DS when you took him?
  • @sparklingdiamond he was 8 months so he had had more shots. @sparklingdiamond do you anticipate it to be at a resort or local due to his fiance being from there?
  • @ki1244 I'd advocate for Disney. Tuxielove is right, your babymoon is meant to be about you and DH. I think family is important but so is the give and take of family. It sucks and it stings but if they are unwilling to come see you all then they can watch the baby grow via photos etc.
  • @dntstpbelieveing That I'm not sure. I am hoping more of a resort area but I need to ask him.
  • @sparklingdiamond does your son have any apts coming up, maybe run it by your Ped to see what they think? Honestly I would probably still go but I dont always make good choices lol.
  • @dntstpbelieveing I actually need to get him a flu shot so I can try to talk to her then!
  • @sparklingdiamond I took DD when she was 5 months old. The pediatrician said no big deal. It was nice! I don’t think they get many big shots at 4 months so probably is nearly the same. If baby will be on formula, the safest would be to bring water or something that will boil the water. But at resorts etc  the water should be just fine!
  • Wow I missed alot lol. Geez.
My random is my coonhound Ruby who is like my best friend and shadow is even more attached to the point where she can't get close enough to DD or I. She is already normally by our sides without fail but now it is a whole new level where she has to be almost literally on top of us lol. It is really sweet. DD loves it, she will take her nap laying right up against Ruby or laying partially on her even. But my other dog Bella seems to be almost acting out a little, she has gone from a 7 yr old "normal" dog to almost a puppy state where she has moments of misbehaving like she doesn't know better or can't control herself. And she has been following our senior cat around and obsessively grooming her like a puppy to the point where the fur on her back gets sopping wet.

Hey ladies, I may not have avoided getting sick this holiday season after all. I know I can take Tylenol, what else am I able to take for fever/cold? Any help appreciated!!!
  • @crickett1688 I think I’m supposed to tell you to call your dr since this is medical advice 🤣 but Tylenol, Sudafed and Benadryl are all safe. I believe mucinex is also safe although I’m not 100% sure on that.
  • @nmbrcrnchr1 you’re totally right. I wanted to get a head start tonight but I gotta ask tomorrow! Thank you!
  • @cricket1688 I was totally jk, those are the ones on the list I got from my dr (besides mucinex) but I would ask, bc I was having issues with migraines that Tylenol wasn’t touching and when I called my dr they gave me another safe option that actually worked! So maybe they have some other options for colds. Hope you get some relief and feel better soon!
  • @cricket1688 My OB gave me a list as well. This is what she advises is safe:

    Fever, headache, pain - Tylenol(Acetaminophen),Regular/ExStrength
Cold/Sinus Congestion - Tylenol Cold/Sinus, plain Sudafed, Actifed, Ocean spray, Afrin(use no longer than24hrs), Preferably after 12 wks: Benadryl. Chlor-Trimeton, Plain Claritin, Claritin-D, Theraflu, Zyrtec, Allegra
Cough/Sore Throat - Robitussin, Robitussin DM, Theraflu Cough Drops, Chloraseptic Spray or lozenges

  • @BlondePeanut @nmbrcrnchr1 thanks guys! It’s tylenol and emergen-C for the tonight. If I’m lucky I’ll kick this with a good nights sleep.
  • Frustrated with the fact that my jeans are no longer fitting. I only ever wear jeans. I knew this day would come but I really don't like (frankly detest) clothes shopping.

  • @cricket1688 I second the list that others have said. My doctor reminded me (this is my second pregnancy), to not take combo cold meds, that’s the big issue. Plain Tylenol and Benadryl is a combo I take most nights because of pelvic pain or headaches and insomnia.

On an update and insomnia related note: I slept so good this first night in the new house! And DS did too. Yesterday was a chaos of emotions, people, and things. Everything in in the house now, but there are mislabeled boxes and stuff in the wrong rooms, but I am so in love with this house! DS slept well too, we set up his crib and found all his sleeping things (omg if we lost his lovey...). Though we are missing his music dog Scout. Thankfully, I could wing it with playing the music from YouTube through the monitor for 15 mins! Ah technology!
  • @cricket1688 I second what most people have said above. Only that sudafed seems to be one that varies per OB/provider. Mine has always said no to sudafed. If you look up the data on it, there isn't much - there's no concrete proof that its harmful, and no data that it's not. That being said, obviously LOTS of people have taken it, but I always prefer to defer to my personal OB's opinion just mostly because they know everything else that's going on with me and I'm trusting them for everything else.
I also definitely recommend any kind of sinus rinse. I use a squirt bottle type, but some people swear by Neti Pot. There's also an electric one now that sounds intriguing but I'm kind of afraid to try it because I"m a wimp! haha

@sparklingdiamond we traveled cross-Atlantic with my 3 month old son to visit family for christmas and did the return trip when he was 4 months old. It was so much easier traveling with him at that age (sleeper) than the next time we did that trip in the summer and he was 9 and 10 months old (crawler). Id ask your doc about any location specific risks (we traveled between Canada and Sweden which have similar climates,  immunization schedules,  and risk of disease.  I know tropical locations often have different risks/bugs than more northern climates though, so I can't speak for Jamaica itself,  just the general air travel)

  • @BigBadWolf12 Thanks for your input!  I definitely will be checking with the pediatrician.  I think I will start there and then just go from there.
  • @dntstpbelieveing Ooooh professional snuggie? I think I need one of these ASAP. Do you have your dog with you at work?

  • I will say that the vaccine/illness issue aside, it’s waaaaay easier to travel with a super young baby than an older one. They just sleep and nurse on the plane and If you baby wear it’s even easier.
