Re: Week of 12/10 Randoms

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds and the timing kills me. Total loss before the holidays. We are waiting for the investigation to be over but hopefully between all of us out there we can help get it cleaned up
  • Loading the player...
  • @bumbly_b it's seriously terrible. 😟 I'm so sorry for their loss. I just can't even imagine. I'm glad they weren't there, but I wish they didn't have to go through this.
  • @bumbly_b Dang, that's terrifying. Especially with how fast it happens. Our friend's house burned down in minutes also. They had just had a baby too. They all got out safe, but they had to live at her parent's house with a newborn for like 3 years until they rebuilt the house with insurance. It started by their just used gas lawn mower being put in the closed garage with the pilot light of the water heater they think.

  • @bumbly_b wow, that is terrifying! We just had a house fire near my town recently **TW where the mom lost all four of her kids because she couldn’t reach them End TW**.

DH and I decided that since I am constantly talking to baby and reading (perks of being a teacher) that he would read a book or two to baby every night. We got through The Giving Tree but he fell asleep during Winnie-the-Pooh. The teacher in my was doing a running record on him and realizing he ducks at reading! 😂😂 Looks like ill be teaching our kiddos all the math and reading!

  • @mrskoz428 my husband is the worst at reading. I don't know what it is, it's like a big insecurity to him. I will do voices and make it so fun, and he will literally open the book, point to things on the page and flip through it without reading. It's annoying. BUT I suck horribly at math and he's an engineer... So he'll help with math, I'll help with reading.
  • So, our first night in this house. H tells DS he needs to sleep in his room (we tried, we really wanted to...) And he goes "but dad, someone keeps knocking on my door." So, needless to say, he's still sleeping with us 😳
  • Also, he just said "mom, I locked the door so the aliens don't 'adduct' us" 😳... Um... Thanks.
  • Aaaand now we just walked out of the room and he said "sh, you don't want to wake the aliens up, they'll catch us." I think he spent too much time with my brother in law at Thanksgiving 😂
  • @bumbly_b that's so scary!!

@llhfreedom you've definitely gotten tons of advice but I'll just add my experience in here because I had ALL the things. You can use the crib right from the beginning, there's no need to transition. We didn't have room for the crib so we used a bassinet in our room until DS started rolling/got too big, about 4.5 months (he was a late roller) and then he moved into a PnP in our room, and finally his crib in his own room around 6 or so months. RnP is not considered safe sleep, DS used it a few times for naps but he didn't really like it. We had the Mamaroo and DS LOVED that. He took many naps in it. It led to mild torticollis so we stopped and did crib/flat surfaces only. He took some naps in the DockATot on the floor but overall I consider the DockATot a waste of money (not safe for sleep). We use the PnP VERY often. I'd highly recommend it. We've even taken it to friends' houses if we want to stay later and he'll sleep (or he used to). The only things considered safe sleep are those marketed as bassinets and cribs, anything else is not deemed safe or recommended by professionals, including any kind of co-sleeping. All that being said, I will try to get next baby to sleep flat always but if I need to use the Mamaroo or RnP for naps, I will because SANITY.

Also, we put the bassinet on H's side until I wasn't in pain sitting up and getting out of bed (c-section). I'm sure something like the Halo would have been nice but I didn't hate H lifting him up and handing him to me, less work and less ab usage picking up baby!

ALSO NOW I DESPERATELY WANT PASTA

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds DH never tried in school. Listening to him read was honestly painful. I can’t imagine he’s comprehending what he’s reading! 😂😂 Also, kids have the wildest imaginations but maybe separate him from BIL for a while! 😂

  • @mrskoz428 hey, if he's reading a book or two a night, he's bound to get vastly better by the time baby is here, right?

  • @brie_and_almonds gosh I hope so! I’ve obviously never heard him read out loud since he’s my husband and not a student but wow! It all makes so much sense now!

  • UO but DS slept in the RnP in our room for the first 3 weeks and then went to his crib.  He didn’t STTN until 3 months but he was fine in his crib.

I will say the PnP is an excellent baby jail for DS at 10 months.

DS has impetigo and can’t go back to Daycare until Monday.  This week is gonna be fun 😭
  • Hi guys. I tell myself I’m going to keep up with the randoms every week and then I blink and there’s 200 posts. I’m really gonna try, though!

@llhfreedom everyone has chimed in, but I’ll throw in my two cents. We ended up with a silent reflux baby (all the pain, none of the spit up - took her not gaining weight for the pedi to finally diagnose 🙄), and she would NOT stay asleep flat. The RnP was the only way we got any sleep for a few weeks until we sorted out her meds situation. It’s also super duper portable so if you have a big house/multiple stories it is great to drag around with you so you have some place to stick baby. DD was in the RnP, swing, PnP bassinet a lot. We also had the halo bassinet for night time sleep. After we figured out her meds, she did sleep in the halo, but once she started breaking out of her swaddles, we transitioned her to a crib (in our room) at 14 weeks, and we also used the Baby Merlin’s Magic Sleepsuit, which I cannot day enough good things about. She had been sleeping 9 hour stretches over night until she started breaking swaddles - then she was up at least twice a night. I was in denial for two weeks and the transition to crib + Merlin suit couldn’t have gone better. She went back to her 9 hour stretches!

  • @poshspice the Merlin suit didn't really work for us but I have some EXCELLENT pictures of teeny DS looking like the Michelin Man and it's so amazing  :D:D  I kept it just in case future babies respond to it better. DS had to slowly transition out of the Halo swaddle sack. One arm out, then two. It was excruciating.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge that’s so disappointing! It really was magic for us and DD didn’t roll in it until she was like 8 months. It was so great. But it was miserable for a few weeks after we had to switch to sleep sacks. DD’s sleep startles we’re crazy strong and the one arm out thing never worked for us. She started breaking swaddles at 12 weeks and we had two miserable weeks where I kept trying to make the swaddle work/do the one arm out thing. Merlin suit saved my sleep!

  • @poshspice we tried sooo many things, cold turkey, Merlin suit, zipadee zip, on and on. I honestly am not entirely sure what worked but my most recent memory is arms out of the Halo :D I'm so glad he sleeps now. I'm really relishing these next 5 months of STTN before #2 comes lol

  • @llhfreedom We have the BabyHome Air Bassinet and I think it is great. It's the same size/shape as the Lullago, but much better fabric and feels a little sturdier. It comes with a bag and legit takes 90sec to set up once you know what you are doing, so we were able to travel with it. It's also super lightweight, so we moved it on occasion. DD stayed in that until she was sitting up and then moved to the crib. We also had a swing in the living room and a bouncer that we moved around, or would just lay down a blanket and let her chill on the floor. We borrowed a PNP all of twice, when she was 13mo.

  • @mrskoz428 we read to DD while I was pregnant and I will say that it's easier to engage when they're here so your husband might get a lot better by the time your LO is interacting. DH is a lot more animated, using all sorts of voices (getting mad at himself when he can't remember which voice he started with for which character sometimes). He has done some public speaking in the past so he might have started from a better place than your husband but it takes time. My mom was reading so much more dynamically than I was when DD was first born (I was like "am I doing this wrong?" in my head) but she had 3 kids and just fell into it whereas now I'll be more dynamic when this LO is little than I was with DD as a newborn because I've developed my "style."

  • @imrachellea I love that watermelon! you could make a strawberry out of red and green

  • @imrachellea that poor sweet little girl. I'm glad everything is healing well. It's one of my worst fears that DD will hurt this baby just because she doesn't really understand consequences of actions yet. Those bandages are so cute! I like the strawberry idea @spaceburger suggested - you could add a little green at the top, too! What about a snowman with black and white? Or you could make a big bow on the wrist part with big traingles (any colors)? Or wrap it like a christmas present with the criss-cross lines and a bow in the middle?

  • @imrachellea What a sweet idea to make the bandage a bit more fun! Some ideas: Christmas tree w/ornaments... zebra stripes... rainbow?

I missed what happened to DD's thumb, but those bandages are so cute! Maybe a zebra?

  • Ahhh well, we went to look at a house today. It's an estate and being sold as-is. It is vintage late 60's, hasn't been touched cosmetically. Fiance's dad happens to be a house inspector for a living, so he came along too. The house looks great and they have done a lot of updating (new tankless water heater, fairly new AC and heat, some piering in the foundation), BUT it turns out some asshole roofer put a new composite roof ON TOP of an existing old cedar shake roof! Which is a huge no no, like our insurance agent wouldn't even insure the house like that. So it needs replaced. There's also some minor foundation stuff and an electrical issue. The way it's priced, we're guessing the executor of the estate is unaware of these issues. So after kicking it around all day, we've decide to offer $16k less than asking, to offset the repair costs. But the thing is that it's only been on the market a day. So, we'll see. I have no idea how they'll respond.

  • So jealous of all these babies who slept through the night early! Both boys didn’t start sleeping through the night until 2. In fairness ds1 began sleeping through the night as soon as he had tubes put in his ears and ds2 started sleeping through the night literally the week he was diagnosed with asthma and put on meds, but 2 years of multiple wake ups per night per child!!! I am so hoping we get a little more sleep this time around. We used pnp until 6 months in our room then transitioned to crib at night... we always attempted naps in the crib from the get go just so they were used to it. But often times they slept in the swing for naps.

@sleepy33 good luck with the house!

i am also so hungry lately. It’s 830pm and I seriously want a second dinner but I don’t want to go crazy and gain too much too fast. Really struggling with this lately.

  • @Stormiewinter yes to the hunger. I know it’s because baby is moving more and burning through my calories but I could easily eat 5 big meals a day at this point, 2 breakfasts, a lunch, and 2 dinners! I struggled to gain weight first trimester so I guess I’m playing catch up? 🤷🏽‍♀️
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @Stormiewinter 😩😩 why did you say that?! I am holding out hope this baby will sleep sooner than DS. I don't know if I can do that again. At one point we were up every freaking hour. Every night. He was like 15 months 😩 I finally started sleep training, which I couldn't bring myself to do earlier and it started to make a bit of a difference so it wasn't hourly anymore. But it wasn't until we moved to our last house that he finally slept through the night.
  • @mrskoz428 kind of random, but are you also super super thirsty? Like practically inquenchable?
  • @lovelybabybumpz Her thumb got slammed in the inside of the door jam when my older one got mad at her standing near her room. It nearly severed her thumb from the nail bed up, but by a miracle didn't damage bone and she doesn't need surgery. I'm loving the ideas, I know she'll need this on for a couple more weeks so I'll need at least three or four more ideas minimum.

  • @mrskoz428 has anything been mentioned to you about GD again? I know you said there might be a risk for you? I hope I didn't make that up...pregnancy brain gets jumbled.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge we had the same thought. I was just afraid to actually address it yet.
  • I'm having a hard time keeping up today. Just popping in to say hello! All the yellow notifications are overwhelming me tonight but I'm hoping to get caught up tomorrow.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I might have just been rude AF :grimace: I just remember her mentioning it before and me being surprised because she's so tiny! But I have learned GD is equal opportunity. Since it was brought up before I thought it might be okay to...I hope I didn't offend!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I wasn't waiting for fear of offending, if that makes you feel any better. I just have a tendency to jump to conclusions, so I wanted to get my ducks in a row (which is why I asked about thirst) and when she answered I was going to suggest talking to her doctor as she has at least two indicators at this point. But I'm always afraid to worry people, so I was nervous to say anything. I was berated to all hell for telling a girl repeatedly that she needed to go to labor and delivery at 38 weeks after not feeling her baby AT ALL (her claim) in well over 24 hours. So, I tread lightly now.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds ummm but if I was her I WOULD have gone to L&D because of that! In fact I did once. I didn't feel baby for a while at work even after having juice and water and laying down on my side for a half hour. Nothing. All was fine but I got monitored at L&D just in case because scary!!

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I went a few times, DS was very lazy. But this girl had an appointment in like 3 hours or so and was just so lax about it. Other women were coming in and telling me I was being ridiculous and that the girl should just go to her appointment and I needed to stop scaring her. I was like "SHE SHOULD BE SCARED her baby has not moved in more than a day!" And it was just a mess. She went to her appointment and baby moved and all was well. I was seriously in tears, practically hyperventilating (hormones are fun 😂) and I've since concluded that she WAY over exaggerated the timeline or not feeling ANYTHING in that time. Ugh. I'm so pissed just thinking of it lol.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds so basically she was an AW, ugh. I only went the once because usually he would give me a jab here or there when I started getting worried but the day I went it was nothing for quite a while.
