Re: Week of 12/10 Randoms

  • Oh @mrskoz428! When do you get a break? I hope the benadryl and iv cocktail works for you.

  • @mrskoz428 how awful!! I'm so hoping it gets figured out and you have a better day today. Please keep us posted, thinking of you.

  • @knarlytaurus @DuchessOfCambridge definitely a very painful rash! I’m not expecting a break any time soon, honestly. It’s going to be a long day. I honestly just want to bemoved to a regular hospital room and not shoved in a loud corner of the ER. I slept maybe 3.5 hours, max.

  • @mrskoz428 I am really disgusted by the quality of the medical care near you! I am allergic to those same meds(and they are very common allergies) and have never had that kind of problem receiving treatment. I can't believe it even got to the point of a kidney infection since those incompetent doctors said it was constilation! I am so angry for you and I hope you get proper care soon.
  • @lappymom2019 well, kidney infections start out as UTIs, but my UTIs this pregnancy have been completely asymptomatic so I never knew I had one. That’s why it turned into a kidney infection. I probably had the kidney infection for at least a week, and the UTI for at least a month before I finally went in with symptoms. Because of the pregnancy and type of infection they are limited to about 4 or 5 antibiotics and my allergies have now eliminated all of them. They really aren’t to blame for that, though trust me, I’m still plenty frustrated.

  • @mrskoz428 You are so understanding. I hope you get treated quickly and get better soon. Still waiting for a room?
  • @lappymom2019 yep. Hoping someone on the ob floor gets discharged early this morning so I can be moved.

  • @mrskoz428 sorry to hear about the allergies to this treatment. Hope the Benadryl helps calm the allergies and they figure something that won’t give you a reaction soon
  • @mrskoz428 are they monitoring baby at all through this?
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds nope. I’m going to ask the next time they come in to check in on baby. They have to retest my kidney function as last nights ultrasound showed fluid around my kidney and ureter that’s cutting off the urine flow in my ureter. So, more bad news, essentially.

  • FINALLY CAUGHT UP on this thread!!

@mrskoz428 that's one of my fears since I'm allergic to a lot of antibiotics,  myself.  How is the rash?
Also,  general question,  when the OB/Gyne has you pee in a cup at every visit are they also checking  for UTI's or just protein? I should know this but I don't.

  • I just read this article on parents how people are shaming Megan Merkel for cradling her baby bump. WTF?? How does that even offend some people?
    Haters.

  • @expandcontract the rash went away completely with Benadryl. It was an allergic reaction but not an anaphylactic reaction so they may try those again based on the bacterial sensitivity culture. I consulted with infectious disease and OB, just waiting for urology to come before anymore big decisions are made. We are at the point where we are just managing pain.

  • @expandcontract I don't know for certain, but when I did clinical in the ER, they had dipsticks I imagine they use in OB/primary/etc. The dipstick alerted the provider of any bacteria, glucose, ketones, mucus, etc. It could detect signs of UTI, diabetic ketoacidosis, etc.
  • @expandcontract I agree with you. I will say that I lurk a lot of IF boards and the ladies on those rip into her for cradling her bump, especially before it was very noticeable. Being PGAL, I understood  this reaction from women dealing with loss and IF, but not the general public. People are really turned against her- especially in Britain, which I do not understand at all. I think it’s subtle racism combined with hating that an American married into Royalty. And can I just say she is further along then me and is smaller, so those people claiming she’s having twins can shove it!
  • @knarlytaurus that is good info, thank you!!

@mrskoz428 sorry about the reactions! It’s defintely a good thing you’re not having anaphylaxis!! I hope they get things sorted and you can go home soon!

  • @mrskoz428 Sorry you're going through this and wishing you a quick recovery!

@poshspice Best of luck to you! I used to work for a local, regional government agency (not county but close enough) and @knarlytaurus is spot-on. They likely would have done an "internal applicants only" posting if they knew or expected they would be hiring from within. If they opened the posting to external applicants, you definitely have a shot. Congratulations on your interview.

@expandcontract @chloe97 I would have to agree that Meghan has faced an inordinate amount of scrutiny, and some of that definitely comes from the fact she is biracial, American, and divorced. But I would also argue one of her greatest hurdles is that she's a former actress. Because of this, she is hyper-aware of cameras at all times and can come across as not genuine. It is totally ridiculous to criticize someone for cradling her bump, but I think when people see a whole series of photos of her and in every photo she's touching her bump, or touching Harry, or laughing riotously, or giving a megawatt smile, it can seem a bit over-the-top. Personally, there is nothing in the world I would hate so much as being a part of the royal family and enduring that level of scrutiny, so I feel genuine sympathy for her. But I think her training as an actress sets her off as a complete foil to Kate, who (although the public used to treat her like garbage, if you remember) has gained a reputation for being very natural in public.

Since I have a history of UTIs, my OB has me do a "clean catch" urine sample once a month... if they're not doing that, I don't think they are able to check since the sample could be contaminated.

  • @SpaceBurger no, sadly worse. No amount of pain medicine is helping. They no longer think it’s an infection but perhaps kidney stones, but they don’t want to check because it requires a CT scan. Apparently I was outpatient today but am being admitted as inpatient and getting a real hospital room with a shower!!! Yayy!! So frustrated that they don’t know what’s wrong. On vancomycin still for the bacteria in the urine. It’s been a long day and it’s not getting any better.

  • @mrskoz428 I've been hoping you were doing better today. At least you'll be admitted to a real room now. FX they can pinpoint this soon and get you better.
  • @mrskoz428 WTF??? You don't have to have a CT scan! When can they get you transferred to an OB ward (or L&D)? I had an ultrasound where they found my kidney stone when I was having pain. It's still early and I was 4 days away from my due date but they gave me a percocet b/c I was in extreme pain and it was amazing. It's the only time anything stronger than tylenol/advil hasn't made me throw up, though. Wisdom teeth extraction - advil. Postpartum recovery - advil (or tylenol, can't remember). Kidney stone - I NEEDED something stronger and my body was okay with it for some reason (red heads are notorious for having issues vomiting with narcotics so I guess I'm not at risk of becoming addicted to them since I have 3/4 times I've been given them). They might be hesitant to give it this early in the pregnancy, idk?

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @kvh22 They did an ultrasound and didn’t see anything. That’s why they are waiting to see what happens with the pain. It would be a very low dose CT to find the stone (if there is one) and OB was okay with it, if it was necessary. They gave me Lortab but it didn’t work longer than two hours.
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @mrskoz428 ooo interesting. They were able to see mine via ultrasound and my doctor said it was so small, a normal person wouldn't be bothered by it in her opinion (hence, she said there was a chance it was horrible RLP), but it might have been the pressure from my uterus causing the stone to bother me - the left kidney was basically flat/horizontal under my uterus and the right one was pushed to the side/vertical since I was 39 1/2 weeks (it was the left one with the stone but they looked at both).

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • @kvh22 well, and my left kidney (the problem one) is enlarged and has a sack of fluid around it which is also constricting the ureter and that sack of fluid could also be causing the pain. If that’s the case, it’s a matter of do we do an invasive surgery to drain the fluid or do we stay on pain meds the rest of the pregnancy. No easy answers at this point.
    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Tracker
  • @mrskoz428 I did read the thing about the fluid and then forgot in my focus on the ultrasound for the kidney stone.

  • @expandcontract I hate the level of rude surrounding Meghan Markle. I understand things like that can be difficult for those struggling with their own issues around pregnancy but maybe UO/FFFC? Pregnant women are allowed to be pregnant women and ENJOY IT. Plus, the media has been going nuts over scrutinizing her pregnancy. She can't win. If she ignored it they'd be like why are you so weird. She's enjoying it so she's ridiculous? Leave her TF alone, holy moly. I feel like everyone also compares her to Kate who yes, did start out with lots of hate, but now they love her. Meghan's not Kate and that needs to stop being an expectation. I just hope since she's used to this kind of stuff from her career that she let's it roll off. A friend of mine made me feel bad about my first pregnancy and I'll never get over that because it drained so much enjoyment out of it. She was engaged at the time and I constantly tried to make everything about her engagement and not my pregnancy. She's acting similarly this time around so I'm just going to do me and enjoy this special time in my life.

So that was a lot of rambling.

  • @mrskoz428 are you in your town or LaCrosse? Don’t take this the wrong way- I’m from an even smaller town than you are in Northern WI and I know the small town Drs don’t know a lot. Can you get to a hospital with a high risk MFM on staff? I’d think LaCrosse or maybe Marshfield or Madison would know what was going on. Your kidneys are pretty important when your pregnant and your choices right now don’t sound great. Randomly enough, we are driving to MN today and just drive past your town.
  • @mrskoz428 Oh damn, I'm so sorry. I was hoping things were getting better. Hopefully they'll figure it out??

  • @kvh22 Hello fellow redhead. I also can’t take strong pain meds, had no idea it was another fun redhead side effect. Did you have an epidural with your first delivery? I’m scared I won’t be able to handle natural labor but I’m also scared of the meds making me feel like shit.
  • @jkduer yes!! I asked this at the info session with the anesthesiologist put on by my hospital. He said he's never had a problem with the epidural and people who have that reaction to narcotics. I believe I got fentanyl.w/ the anesthesia that was used in it and was totally fine! I threw up 2 minutes after whatever they game me postpartum to take orally, though (it was more of a delayed gag as nothing was in my system since you can't really eat).

  • @chloe97 I’m in La Crosse. I was outpatient observation before. Now I’m inpatient and getting higher priority care than before.

  • @eatinwatermelonseeds ours was out this morning. Crazy windstorm. So glad I dont work until 2pm because my alarm clock wasnt gonna go off lol

@mrskoz428 this is unbelievable.  After reading @chloe97 's suggestion about it being a small town now I'm nervous for you.  I sincerely hope they get to the bottom of this soon and treat you correctly and effectively. Also,  I really think you should start your own thread for this.  It's getting hard to keep up with your status amongst the other posts.  Feel better soon,  my dear!

In regards to Markle, I do hate that people treat her so horribly.  I thought the majority of us were so happy because it was such a fairy tale wedding but there's so much hate.  I think a huge part of it stems from jealousy because whomever is doing the hating didn't marry into royalty. And constantly comparing her to Kate is wrong to begin with.  They are completely different people.
And then on top of that to shame a pregnant woman for loving her belly? We are not pregnant for long, so whatever little time she has to be pregnant she should enjoy in peace.  Also,  she's so tiny,  I'm sure she's not used to having to carry this weight around and doesn't know what else to do with her hands or something.  Either way,  people need to leave her alone.

  • @bumbly_b where are you again? The windstorm is seriously insane right now.
