Can I just gush about internet glasses for a minute? I've been buying glasses (eye glasses... for seeing things lol) from the internet for a few years now and they're so great. I'm not hung up on brand names, so I just pick styles I think are cute and I know will fit me based on measurements of glasses I already own. Also we don't have vision insurance right now and I know my Rx hasn't changed at all, and the company I just ordered from doesn't make you verify your prescription (my last one is from two years ago). I paid less than $40 including shipping! I got DH prescription sunglasses for less than $20 a few years ago, too. Sorry, I'm just so excited. I got my shipping confirmation that they're on their way and I can't wait! It's just so much cheaper than buying from LensCrafters or the optometrist.
@DuchessOfCambridge@eatinwatermelonseeds totally no offense taken! I’m lucky to have such awesome women/STMs looking out for me and my little one! Nothing has been mentioned again about it. They talked about the extreme dizziness/passing out at my last appointment but I was super disappointed with that midwife and was in and out in about 10 minutes, so I’m not sure how seriously that midwife considered it. My thirst has been increasing but nothing that feels inquenchable. I have been thinking about GD though, especially after watching my diabetic student this year. I don’t think the kid ever stops eating! He has at least 4-5 SNACKS at school alone because of his blood sugar. I’m trying not to overthink it too much since I also know baby is still sitting VERY low and is still very much up in my bladder space. I have a 45 minute appointment with a midwife after my 90 minute (😱) anatomy scan and will definitely bring it up if they don’t.
@mrskoz428 I'm so glad you didn't take offense to that. And I'm glad you're becoming suspicious as well. Increased hunger and frequent urination can both be normal in pregnancy, of course, but the way you describe it sounds excessive enough that I would definitely bring it up. I'm glad you have an appointment soon, hopefully they take it seriously, and hopefully I'm just being a worry wort for nothing lol.
@eatinwatermelonseeds well seeing that I’m wide awake at 1:00 am because I 1) had to pee and 2) am hungry again (granted I ate dinner at like 4:30 pm 😂) it’s definitely got me thinking. My sister had GD with one of her pregnancies, so I know there is a chance. Plus, DH is pre-diabetic (not sure if this matters but I mean, the kid is half his). Off for a midnight snack!
@mrskoz428 I don't think his pre-diabetes has anything to do with it lol. But I do believe a family history of gestational diabetes could affect it. I'm not ENTIRELY sure there. He better get on that pre-diabetes though 😬😬 type 2 is totally preventable, and reversible. Sorry, I think I may earn an award for unsolicited advice or telling people shit they already know 🏆😂 Good luck, love. Enjoy your midnight snack 😂 and to be fair, I just got up to get and chug a bottle of water. I think I'm just dehydrated, though, not excessively thirsty lol plus my kid woke up super restless kicking me. Now that I'm wide awake, he's fast asleep 🙄
@eatinwatermelonseeds he’s lost 35 pounds since being diagnosed, thank god! He hasn’t been retested yet. I’m definitely enjoying my bagel with cream cheese and Cutie! Good luck getting back to sleep! I know sleep doesn’t come easy after being wide awake.
@mrskoz428 that's great! (And I'm glad my unsolicited advice didn't offend). Type 2 is just so disheartening to me, because it's preventable. I watch my husband like a hawk for symptoms because his diet is terrible. I fight him so hard to try to avoid any issues in the future, but I think it may take a diagnosis of something to get him to make changes.
@mrskoz428 It's definitely worth mentioning at your next appt, but for what it's worth I was extremely thirsty, almost to the point of unquenchable in my first pregnancy, and did not have GD, I want even close on my numbers. And my thirsty started salt, like it was one of my first symptoms after POAS. But still ask for sure.
@missy052819 I just ordered from EyeBuyDirect, which sounds like a sketchy name, but I have a few other pairs from them and they’re fine. I’ve gotten DH glasses from glasses. com, and some from ZenniOptical. Warby Parker lets you try on 5 pairs at home for free (no Rx, just for fit) no obligation to buy. I’m half Asian (low nose bridge) and none of the WP frames fit me well when I tried them, but I had coworkers who got some that were really cute.
@mrskoz428 I’d definitely bring up GD if your sister had it! My two friends who had it with their first pregnancies had it again with the second so I know it definitely recurs in individuals. But I would think having an immediate family member with GD could make you more likely to have it also? Definitely something to bring up (along with symptoms) to your OB. I’ve been really extra hungry lately, but not super thirsty.
@mrskoz428 GD is all about how YOU handle sugar and the hormones play a huge role, which is why some women with no other risk factors end up with it. I thought I'd be at risk since my grandfather and uncle on my mom's side both have/had it (type 1) but since my mom doesn't have diabetes and never had GD with her 3 pregnancies, it's not considered an increased risk factor. And they've never asked about DH in person - can't remember if I filled it out on a form, though. I wouldn't think that would play into it at all since it's not about how the baby metabolizes sugar. Since your sister had it with one pregnancy, are they having you test earlier? If so, you'd be coming up on that sooner rather than later anyways since I believe 25-29 weeks is standard.
House update. Our realtor talked to theirs and they said that the price is as low as they're willing to go and factors in the repairs needed. So, we said good luck with that. The hunt continues.
@DuchessOfCambridge where I live it's not really worth it. Typically you should charge minimum wage or higher, but I don't live in a wealthy area, and most people barely make minimum wage, so they'd just be working to pay the baby sitter. A lot of sitters I've had were about $4 an hour. If you need a little extra money, it's not terrible, but it's really not worth it considering how much work goes into taking care of someone else's kid.
@DuchessOfCambridge Sorry for the late response, but I liked the point you brought up about putting in on H's side of the bed because I will most likely be having a C-section. The Halo gets pretty close to the bed but we may have to play it by ear at first.
@poshspice I've heard that too about the reflux, so we have the Halo but we put a RNP on the registry too just in case, so we'll see how it goes! I also put a swing and a PNP on there but just a basic one, no bassinet.
@sleepy33 I don't disagree, but at the time it was all I could afford, so I appreciated it. When it came down to it, we weren't even bringing home minimum wage, so $4 an hour even was difficult to make. But in a wealthier neighborhood, with people who can better afford it, minimum wage at least shouldn't be an issue.
@llhfreedom yeah there was no way we could have predicted the reflux issue. Neither DH nor I ever had any trouble nursing/gaining weight. You probably don't need the bassinet on the pnp if you have everything else, and DD got too long for the bassinet attachment really quickly!
@sleepy33 sorry about the house. Good luck with the hunting!
I am exhausted. I am laying in bed. I have to go get DS at 1040. It's 1018. Trying to decide if a nap would be worth it or make it worse. Might try anyway. I have to do stuff when I get home, I need to get this bedroom unpacked, but it's mostly my nemesis: laundry.
@DuchessOfCambridge In my area (suburban Chicago), teenage babysitters start at $10/hr and nannies start at $16.Our hourly daycare charges $10/infant, $8.75 for toddlers, and I think around $7 for preschool. I would imagine you could bring in somewhere in between that depending on how many kids you are watching. I would check your state day care laws and make sure you don't have to become licensed to care for non-family kids in your own home. I think you should be okay if you are watching 1 family's kids, but after that it could get a bit dicey.
People in my area charge $15-20/hr, most in the $18-20 range. I think that's pretty ridiculous and it's not something we can afford. I know some families here make millions and can but we are not that kind of family. I was thinking $10/hr since it's in my home, at my convenience, and my child will be there. I'm not interested in full time babysitting or daycare, just some hours here and there throughout the week. For ex a parent who works part time and just needs a bit of care or being backup care for someone or a parent who needs a few hours to run errands, etc. As far as I know you don't need a license for a few hours over the week?
@DuchessOfCambridge most day homes around here (Mid-high cost of living) charge $35/day. The mom of one of DD1's classmates runs a day home. She charges $35/day or $6/hour (for drop ins). When we pay a babysitter who comes to our home, I pay $10/hour. I think that if its an occasional thing $10/hour sounds reasonable.
@DuchessOfCambridge typically you can watch kids without a liscense up to a certain number of kids (3-4). Ds1 originally had an unliscensed sitter who watched him and 2 other kids from 3 months until 3 years. We paid her 30$/day, however, when we pay for an hourly sitter here and there we usually pay 10$/ hour.
@eatinwatermelonseeds Oh I wasn't trying to throw shade. I'm just amazed anyone would do it for that! I can't think of hardly anything I'd do for $4 an hour, but I guess if you're already staying home with your own kids, I can see it.
@eatinwatermelonseeds not even close. I have to get both secret Santa gifts for Christmas with my side (mine and DH's since I know he won't shop for his), all stocking stuffers, a small teacher gift for each teacher (already have part of it), and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting right now. This holiday season has crept up on me. Normally I would have made a trip into the city by now to do a big haul, but there just hasn't been time and online has been very underwhelming to me. DH is off tomorrow and there are a couple cute local shops that have nice things so I'm hoping I can get a few hours to myself to at least get the big stuff done. Stocking stuffers I can finish when I am actually in the city visiting my family the weekend before Christmas.
@eatinwatermelonseeds I had a crisis on Monday when I realized it was December 10 and ordered all of DD's presents from Amazon. We're only doing photo books and small gender reveal presents for the grandparents, and I don't buy gifts for DH's siblings anymore. I honestly don't believe in holiday gifts for extended-family-adults. Everyone makes money and buys themselves things they want throughout the year. UO?
@poshspice I love that show and I think of that every year now. I agree, I'd rather buy for kids. But I brought it up to my best friend and she was like "oh... Awkward. I got you something..." So, I bought her a little bracelet and I'm trying to find something else.
My son is over here talking mad shit and I have no idea why. Apparently he's going to break my heart and he doesn't like my face. I don't know, he's mumbling it. I didn't punish him or anything before, he's just being a little jerk lol.
I should probably Google this to save myself the embarrassment, but do dogs have belly buttons? My dog has a tiny lump where I would imagine a belly button would be. I need to get her to the vet but her yearly comes up during the holidays and this year while buying a house, so it's a little difficult to get her in until next month.
@poshspice where do you order online from? I’m in desperate need of new glasses and my prescription is so bad that going anywhere usually costs $300 for the lenses alone!
@eatinwatermelonseeds I thought I was done and then realized that we used all but 3 of DDs presents for Haunnakah, so now we have to buy more just so she has presents to unwrap from Santa. I literally can think of nothing else to get her that she doesn’t have some version of it isn’t too huge for our house. I also have to stop and buy gift cards for my niece and nephews I’m seeing this weekend. Probably target I’m thinking. But that is about it. I only got small things for MIL and FIL and I cannot for the life of me think of anything else to get them. We got them socks with their dogs picture on them, which I know they will get a kick out of. Last year I got them mugs with DDs pictures on them- which they loved. I feel like I can’t do another picture gift, but I’m at a loss.
@eatinwatermelonseeds we're done but I have so few gifts to buy. We got amazon lists for basically all of them. My side doesn't do adult gifts so just gifts for DD and my nephew. DH's side does a secret santa for adults and we did both of ours already as well as DH's neice. I *think* that's it, but it's easy when people send you a list
I got gifts for all 3 C's, my out of state friend's daughter, my out of state friend, 3C's mom, 2 white elephant gifts for family Christmas, my mom, and now I need to think of something for my grandmother and my husband. I got him some silicone rings because his wedding band is too tight. But he's going to make an amazon list so I can get him something he actually wants.

Side note: those of you who celebrate, are you done Christmas shopping?
This is me:
