@greenbd - I have two kids under 5 and work 60+ hours a week. I’m lucky if I remember to brush my teeth at all. I’ll be so worried about making sure that everyone else is packed, I will likely forget my toothbrush and use my finger.
Reminds me of that time a few weeks ago... when my co worker was like you shouldnt drink from plastic water bottles, because they leach plastic... meanwhile, they're smokers.
@mommin135 I had to get higher waisted underwear(sent my mom out for me) because everything I had hit right on my incision line and that was awful. Same thing with pants. I preferred to wear tighter fitting tank tops to hold my belly in more/give more support.
I love this thread! Im almost one load of laundry and a packed hospital bag ready for my son(considering my lazy/minimalist standards)! What is the violation I missed dangit?!
@lzzfrancisco just some crunchy scaremonger (who probably was just advertising for their own product) saying not to pack plastic toothbrushes because plastic is toxic, and instead buy these amazing bamboo toothbrushes. Never mind the nylon bristles, like @becks_726 pointed out.

Some people! Sheesh! The toothbrushes we have at the hospital I work at are so flimsy- def have to remember to pack my awesome plastic one, hehe.
When people mentioned taking things from the hospital, do they give you stock piles of stuff and leave in the room? Where I work it's hard to get freaking toothpaste, just wondering.
@jgrodo- Yes, a huge stash: tons of the giant pads, the long ice packs kind of shaped like pads, a jar of tucks, squeeze soothingspray, newborn diapers, mini individual premade formulas, soothies... I am sure I am forgetting things. It was a ton.
@jgrodo when we did the hospital tour I specifically asked about this and the nurse said for the most part, if it comes in to the room we have already or will pay for it so take it. Personally I’m excited for the mesh undies and will probably ask for extra. Sad but true.
I didn’t think we could take things, but my nurse (as we were packing up to leave) gave me this huge bag of stuff in addition to what was in my room. She explained that they can’t safely reuse anything that’s put in our room, so once it comes through our door it’s ours even if we never touch it. She brought the extra bag and said to just trust her and take it lol
2 previous c/s and I found it best to bring nursing nightgowns instead of pants and tanks. It was too hard for me to get pants on/off and they were checking my incision a lot and it was easier to pull a nightgown up out of the way to change dressings and pads. Just threw on a nursing bra or a robe if I needed more coverage. I saved the pants for coming home.
@megpants209 that's good to know! We have our hospital tour tomorrow! I will def ask! @BourbonBiscuits sweet! I guess the hospital I work at on the adult side is iust stingy, good to know!
@cass06_07 I’m in Canada too but my hospital gave me some extra stuff to take home. For example, extra baby diapers, ice packs, and mesh underwear. If you ask for a couple more, the nurses will generally give you some to take home.

Asked at the tour last night- I was surprised by how much they said they give without asking!
Yeah our hospital told us, once it's open, it can't be used by anyone else. Even a pack of diapers with one taken from it, so we loaded up. We also knew when the nurse switch happened so when our nurse was switching to the next shift we made sure to pack some stuff, then they just think you're out and replenish. Diapers, cream, small wipes. We were doing formula and the nurse who was our last brought us 2 new cans and a box of the ready made to go home with. I also got 2 extra belly band things. Definitely making sure I bring an empty tote for the hospital.

Bringing this guy back to life - anyone have a fun plan for a going home outfit? With DS we just grabbed something random (which tbh is likely what we'll do with this little lady as well), but I always love seeing the cute stuff people get to go home in.
@BourbonBiscuits I really want to plan an outfit with a bit of intention, in large part because almost all the baby clothes I have are gifts or hand-me-downs. This is my excuse to buy something I love. But..... That's proven difficult! Turns out I'm picky, have no clue how to dress a newborn and the cold is going to require a not so cute number of layers. I would love suggestions, specific or general!
@becks_726 - totally agree on the weird amount of layers. DS is also a Feb baby and whatever he was wearing ended up covered by so many blankets in the car seat.
One thing I'll do with this babe that we didn't with DS was bring the car seat in and get her strapped in where it's warm. The hospital said we didn't "need" to bring the car seat in (because he wasn't so small that they needed to check), but I wish we had. Getting a baby strapped into a car seat is stressful when it's cold, ESPECIALLY when it's your first time strapping said baby into said car seat! So we'll bring it in, get her strapped in and cozy while DH warms up the car, and then just click the seat into the car with minimal stress
Being in a hospital right now, I can say bring your own comfy clothes and bras and nursing tops (although I don’t have or need those now), and toiletries and slippers and an IPAD or something like that, and definitely don’t forget your chargers!
@BourbonBiscuits I have this one's coming home outfit already. My mom crocheted a lavender cardigan and matching hat and found an adorable onesie and pants outfit to match. My only criteria was I didn't want her coming home in pink (for some reason!). I love the idea that she'll come home in something that family made and picked out for her.
+1 for bringing the car seat in. So much easier that way. AW here: look at my babies the day we brought home my DS (almost 4 years ago - sob!!).
I like a 1 piece for a coming home outfit. Something comfortable for baby but functional and won’t irritate their belly button.
We’re going with a Primary sleeper and a Copper Pearl hat. It’ll be freaking cold here in February so I have a tiny baby North Face fleece that is car seat appropriate, a fuzzy blanket, and a JJCole shower cap style Bundle Me.
I think we're doing a little brother one piece for DS to come home in. Just something cute. For Kenzie we had a super soft kickee pants outfit- might do something like that, we have a bit of a car ride, so want comfy but not too warm. 100% something with the built in hand covers- those nails are sharp. Plus, I had asked my MIL to make Kenzie a small bear from her going home outfit, and plan to do the same here, so something with a bit more fabric and stretch was easier for her.
Making sure I bring oversized warm outfit for me too.

Speaking of going home outfits - what do you yourself wear after birth? Will leggings fit/look ok over your giant padded diaper butt? Or will it be too tight and uncomfortable? I was planning on probably just wearing my maternity leggings and a giant tunic or t shirt with an open cardigan, but are sweatpants more realistic? If so I need to buy sweatpants...

@grebretso I wore some super soft yoga pants (like the ones from victoria's secret pink - not ones that are created for actual exercise) with a folded waistband, so I kept the waistband up rather than folding it down. Then I think I wore a nursing tank, a long cardigan and my cozy coat.
