Had my 12 week NT scan this morning and baby Boy was looking good! Perfect neck folds! Officially “out” as a pregnant lady. Most people in my life know, but I’m mentioning it to more people everyday. It’s blantantly obvious.
My NT is scheduled for Thursday AM and I'm a little nervous. I hope they give me some good news! @chloe97 when did you find out the gender? the 12th week just sounds early!
@kbeers13 Got my NIPT results last Monday and I was low risk. Sorry that was unclear- definitely did not find at the u/s! Good luck on Thursday and good luck tomorrow @DuchessOfCambridge. It’s super nerve wracking, but hopefully both of yours will be as uneventful as mine was today. The tech chatted the whole time, we barely got a good look at him. It always amazes me how HUGE they get compared to the 6 week scan. Ha!
I have my second ob appt on Wednesday and I have my NT appts with my high risk and super high risk docs next Monday and Tuesday. Can’t wait to hear the heartbeat and see the little bean again!
I have an appointment on Thursday with the nurse practitioner and then and ultrasound to check on my SCH. I have been super nervous ever since they found the SCH so I am hoping all will be cleared up and I can go on enjoying the rest of the pregnancy.
NT tomorrow when I will be 12 wks 6 days...I wish we had NIPT in Canada but they don't do DNA gender investigations. I am hoping to also hear if my SCH is in decent shape.

@Jess4us Canada doesn't have it at all? That's so surprising to me! NIPT is still for genetic testing and finding out sex just happens to be a byproduct, so I don't get why they wouldn't do it. You learn something new every day.
I just had my NT scan and the scan itself was good. I'll get blood draw results next week, fingers crossed for low risk! Loved seeing baby today I have a posterior placenta this time around and I'm weirdly excited about it not being anterior for some reason I was pretty anxious so it's nice to feel relieved.
@DuchessOfCambridge I find it so ridiculous. They do all the necessary tests but since our healthcare is paid by our taxes we don't get a say in them just running a DNA for gender...gotta wait till the 19 week anatomy scan. You can pay to have a DNA test now for $100 privately i think but when I read the instructions you draw blood from home and can't have any male DNA around you...
I thought NIPT meant DNA and some other additionals so Im the one who misunderstood the type of tests across the border.

@Jess4us we are team green and considered NIPT since it was only $350 (although didn't end up going through with it) just for the reassurance. My doctor said we could just have them not run the test for sex so it isn't even in the results. She also said it's frequently called "the gender test" because so many people get it for that reason, but it's technically not the point. I think the labs here make $$$ off of people opting to get it done (if not AMA/high risk where it's covered) so they can find out sex early, even if they wouldn't normally - it's frequently offered at a discounted rate if not covered by insurance ($100-$500).
I have my NT scan Thursday afternoon. I am so unbelievably excited, but I can't think about it much or it just drags getting to it. When I had an US at 6 weeks it was on a less detailed mobile machine, and all we saw was the fetal pole and sac. So I haven't seen the baby yet, though we heard the heartbeat at 10 weeks so I'm not really worried.
@DuchessOfCambridge are you excited about the posterior placenta in hopes to feel baby more? I felt DD1 at 18 weeks (no idea where placenta was then) but even with an anterior placenta with DD2 I felt her at, no joke, 13.5 weeks. And it was pretty consistent. That really should have been a sign to me...🙄😆 Outs crazy to me that I could fee start feeling baby in on another week or so...😮
NT scan was good! So grateful 😊 heart beat was 147 (I asked this time!) And my SCH is unchanged. Still the size of a chickpea or so. Just waiting for blood work. I am annoyed that this appt was rushed so I didn't ask if baby was measuring on time ... oh well.
@kvh22 youre totally right. I could pay $500 for a NIPT he says... but insurance likely won't cover it since Im not AMA

I didn’t have a scheduled appt this week but called and was able to go in to hear the heartbeat over Doppler. 155 hb 14 weeks tomorrow. Received my nipt results and am low risk. (We did pgs testing on embryo but glad this confirmed those results).
I went to a new nurse's training today and they did an ultrasound. It was amazing! Baby was moving all around and showing off hands and feet. I go next week for an elective scan to find out if it's a boy or girl. Hoping H is back from the fire and can go too.
@imrachellea I think I'm excited because it's what I wanted the first time but I still felt DS at 18 weeks so idk, maybe I'm excited for my former self? 😂
@Jess4us my hospital told me it would cost $1500 for out of pocket NIPT but when I called the company directly they said it wouldn't be more than $400. It was still too much for me and I don't really mind waiting until the anatomy scan, but if you call they may tell you a lower rate
@DuchessOfCambridge wow that is quite thr price difference you were quoted. Hubby and I share your POV... we will wait till the anatomy scan and save the $ for something else
I called today to make an appt at the clinic in our new town/province. Not only had I been seeing (as in saw once but chatted frequently through email) a super chill midwife, but my experience in our old small town clinic was also very relaxed. I didn’t have a dating ultrasound when I was pregnant with DD2, nor did I need to go into the clinic to “confirm” my pregnancy. I just saw my chosen Dr around 12 weeks for my first appt. Well, the receptionist here just about had a heart attack when I told her I hadn’t had my pregnancy officially confirmed in a clinic yet. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but this literally just means having the clinic nurse use a pregnancy test strip in my urine, correct? And that I hadn’t had a dating ultrasound despite the fact that my two previous pregnancies were easily dated by LMP, oh my word! And then, she can’t get me in until next week when I will be 13 weeks along, gasp!! (She was super panicked about this, at which point I told her that I was totally fine with it and reminded her I had been seen by a registered midwife only 2 weeks ago) I know, I’m being a bit sarcastic but it seemed so dire and extreme. She basically begged me to come in as a walk-in on Thursday when the doctor I will be seeing is on-call so that I can be “clinic confirmed” prior to the appt on Tuesday. I’m not one to intentionally try to ruffle feathers, so I’ll go and pee in a cup. But I’m super annoyed to have to do what seems to be such an unnecessary thing with a 3 year old in tow, as a walk in no less which likely means we’ll have to wait a while. If they triage these walk-ins AT ALL I will be at the very bottom of the list.
@mcewen3 that's so weird. I was excited to go in at 8 weeks and see everything but here you get blood drawn and an NT scan by/around 12 weeks so it's a bigger deal. The new policy is I won't pee in a cup until 36 weeks unless they're concerned (although I did at the blood draw appt). So I didn't do that at my first appointment although I had betas done since my LMP and O date would put my EDD 3 weeks apart. That didn't seem like the reason, though.
@kvh22 the NT scan is optional testing here (or at least it was in AB) which I had always opted out of. And don't get me wrong, its not that I'm not excited, her panic just really caught me by surprise because this isn't my first rodeo and the things she was fretting about I know are not a huge deal. It's maybe because they only just reopened the maternal care unit here in town (they were short of doctors and anesthetists for a while so women had to go to the larger, neighbouring communities to have their babies) which I hadn't really thought of until now. She probably is just trying to do her job by the book and here I am poking fun at her for being ridiculous. I'll stop, comply and hopefully the doctor ends up being a bit more chill. I'm not a hippy or super crunchy or anything, but I also feel pretty comfortable with the more relaxed monitoring style of my previous clinic and the midwives I was seeing before this. I'm just hoping this isn't foreshadowing for a very uptight and rigid delivery style, because delivering on my terms is something I don't want to have to fight for.
@mcewen3 Definitely not saying you weren't excited! It's completely normal for people to have their first appointment at 12 weeks, I was just used to 8 weeks last time, and selfishly, wanting to get the dating ultrasound to confirm my tracking. I hope they're willing to work with you on your birth plan. I wouldn't take this as a bad sign.
@mcewen3 I will just add as a devils advocate that the dating u/s is not just about dating the fetus. In fact, mine were never even called that and my Dr didn’t use the measurements she took, but went by my cycle length. They are concerned mostly with finding a HB. TW I had 2 MMCs and spent a lot of time on the MC/TTCAL boards, but I’ve heard horror stories of women not having their first appt until 12 weeks and finding out the baby died at 6 weeks or was molar pregnancy. Lots of complications followed. Not what anyone wants to deal with. End TW
The peeing in a cup is literally just a formality to trigger maternity care. I know it seems stupid, but it’s a way to formally put you into their system so that you can begin prenatal care. I think it may be required by US insurance companies. I get why you are annoyed after receiving laid back care, but there are reasons for their stupidity.
@chloe97 we're in Canada so it's all paid by government insurance. And I totally get the "formality" needs to happen at some point, I was mostly just annoyed that I couldn't simply give a sample prior to the appt on Tuesday (we all know pregnancy tests take literally minutes, and at 12 weeks its going to light up almost the moment its dipped) rather than going in for a completely separate appt/walk-in. That does make sense about the early U/S, I hadn't considered a MMC as the reason. But at this point, if I hadn't had one they could just as easily (and less expensively) check for a HB with the doppler. I totally get if that's their standard and they want to stick with it, but it just seemed silly to be so worried that it hadn't happened yet when the results of all these "necessary" earlier tests could all easily be found, and would have anyways, at my first appt.

Whoa. That seems odd. I PIC literally every appointment. What's their reasoning here? I always thought they wanted to keep a close eye due to GD and pre-e?
@sleepy33 yeah that caught my eye too. I thought it was standard to pee in a cup at every visit. I know it’s not something they separately bill for, so it’s not a $$ thing. And it’s about as non-invasive as it gets (and don’t pregnant women generally have to pee every 5 minutes anyway?)
My practice has offices in a few different suburbs around town and any of the drs could deliver you. I live by one office and worked by another so I went to both with my last pregnancy to meet more of the drs. One of the offices had me pee in a cup each time and the other didn’t. I definitely prefer the office where I do it each time, the little extra monitoring gives me some more peace of mind!
Whaaaa? I've had to pee in a cup with my previous OB and this new practice. Also, they both did an U/S at 8 weeks to make sure baby was implanted in the uterus and not elsewhere.
I've honestly never heard of *not* peeing in a cup every time, and this is through all of my last BMB plus all of their pregnancies since (which is a lot lol). It's usually a running joke about how much harder it gets to aim for the cup the bigger you get. I thought checking for sugar and protein spilling into urine was pretty standard, I'm really surprised.
This is really weird to me the more I read lol. Even through my entire pregnancy with DS at a different clinic I never once peed in a cup. What are they testing for?

Hm. I've never had it brought up. If I had any alarming symptoms maybe they would've?
I'd ask them about it tbh. I mean yeah, they take your BP every time so theoretically that should screen for pre-e (though BP can obviously fluctuate throughout the day). But they don't test for GD until like 20+ weeks usually, and it can creep up early, or hit after your glucose test and I'd want to know if it was. Like, what if your blood sugar was rising from weeks 20-36 and you had no idea? It'd make me nervous. I was borderline GD last time, and I normally weigh 120, have no family history, etc, so it really can happen to anyone with no other risk factors.
@mcewen3 so odd they made it such a big deal! My office doesn't want to see you until 8 weeks, no need to confirm pregnancy through them. They were like, we basically use the same thing as a home pregnancy test so you're good. My first pregnancy I did go get it confirmed with my PCP (didn't have an OB at the time) because I was SO EXCITED and didn't know nearly as much as I do now but yeah, I didn't think it was necessary? It's not at my hospital anyway. I remember some (childless) friends being SHOCKED someone announced without getting it confirmed by their dr. I tried to explain it's the same as a home pregnancy test, they don't do anything more special, and they refused to believe me even though I was pregnant hahaha. I do like the dating u/s for heartbeat and the NT scan. I think the NT scan is important. I am not a person who would terminate due to genetic issues but I do need to know as much information as possible when going into something huge and lifelong like that. Prep is important to me.
I do have to pee in a cup every visit and they test it every visit. I asked about it once and they monitor for protein which indicates pre-e and can do other testing with it as well if necessary (yeast infections, BV, etc if you complain about symptoms). I like that part of it because the US has the highest maternal death rates in the developed world (I think pre-e is one of the biggest issues and so treatable!) and I appreciate them being proactive at my hospital and monitoring pregnant women for it so it doesn't have the chance to become a problem. I'm being treated for pre-e now - I don't have it, but I got it during delivery when my heart rate spiked so I'm on baby aspirin now to decrease the chance of reoccurrence.
@sleepy33 I'd be interested in a poll. I feel like slightly earlier than 36 weeks would be a bit better but I could ask as I get further along. I would assume if my numbers where at all borderline for the GD test (we do the 2 hour right away) or my BP, that they would start testing me earlier.

Yes, thank you! I just found it so weird that she was SO concerned. I mean, I advised that I had been under the care of a midwife and assumed that signified that I was likely aware of proper prenatal care, etc, etc. This is my 3rd baby, 4th pregnancy. Honestly, there's not a whole heck of a lot that's going to phase me. But, what if I had been a FTM, with irregular cycles and minimal symptoms. While not common, it would not be unheard of for someone like that not to even consider taking a pregnancy test for a few months especially if they thought all their sexual encounters had been safe. If I called the clinic, as a FTM who just found out I was possibly 12 weeks pregnant and the person on the other end was as concerned about these lack of tests as this woman was to me, I think I'd be totally freaking out. Way more than I already was finding out about a surprise pregnancy. There's nothing you can do about testing that hasn't been completed, only move forward and do what's necessary now. I mean, she got me in pretty quickly, like exactly 1 week from when I called, which seemed great to me. Not much is going to happen between now and then.
