Re: Favorite Names Thread

  • @kangstadt Jake is III, so John and Jack had already been taken :)

  • @rache1990 I prefer Vaughn. van makes me think mini van or that you are a big Escaflowne fan.
  • Ok, now our top names are

    Eloise (middle??) W

    Jack Archer W

any ideas foriddles that go with Eloise ? I have Elaine which is my moms name but not sure.
  • Eloise Lynn, Ray, Quinn?  Eloise Elaine could work, it sounds a bit rhyme-y but it's very pretty.  As my DH points out, how often do people use a kids whole name anyway?  (Other than me when I'm scolding my child and revert to his whole name, lol.)

  • @kangstadt I like Quinn.
    Eloise Quinn
    Eloise Olivia
    Eloise Jo
    Eloise Mary
    Eloise Lainy
    Eloise Laura
  • @kbirchtree, I think out of those, Quinn and Jo are my favorites.  But one of the longer middle names might be nice if your last name is short (we have a super long hyphenated name, so I tend to lean towards shorter middle names for us personally).

That’s great. We have an Amelia and Jackson is a maternal Grandmom’s  last name and Archer is my paternal Grandmom’s. And then my hubs grandma is Lois and that’s in Eloise so they are all a nod to a grandmother which ever we have. I like it with Claire.
  • I like Eloise Quinn!  Or so pretty with Claire for something more feminine.

Found out we are having a boy and we are going with something a little different- Wells Anderson

My DD is Arlie Kayte so we are used to a little different! I thought it was going to be so hard bc in 12 years we have never agreed on a boys name- I’ve always liked Anderson but we don’t want him to be called Andy- names are so hard!

havent shared with anyone really I mentioned it to one person and they said is the middle name going to be “fargo” 🙄 gonna keep to myself for a bit haha
  • @kbirchtree I have an Eloise Nichole. I adore the name Eloise but finding a middle name to go with it was so difficult. DH ended up choosing my own middle name for her.
  • Ugh now that we know its a girl I am 10000% sure I want the name Violet. DH isn't sold yet. He said he wants to look at more names but I know that I will veto EVERY name because Violet has always been the girl name I wanted. I really need him to just get on board.

  • @MRDCle - Thank you! DD is Alice so I think the 2 old English names go well together!

Alice was one of the names I had in mind when we didn't know boys v. girls! Love the two together.

  • So, here are our short lists so far:

    Girl names:
    Alva
    Alvina
    Leila/Lejla
    Nora
    Alma
    Tilda

    Boy bames:
    Isak
    Alvar
... really need more options here in case it's twin boys!

From what we know it could be any combination of boys and/or girls in there, so feel free to pick your favorite combo  ;)

I LOVE ALVA AND ALMA. Obviously those are super matchy for twins, but ugh those are so sweet. Leila and Alma I think sound dreamy together.

  • So I think that DH is set on naming one Cedric, so I'm thinking maybe Baby A is going to be Cedric George, and the other names we have so far are (in my personal preference order):
    Malcolm
    Desmond
    Julian
    Sebastian

  • Now that we know LO is a boy, we've started to make *some* progress. We both really like Charlie but my favorite name is Reid. DH really wants the middle name to be after him (and we all have DH's last name) so I said if he gets the middle name, then I at least get a heavier weight on the first name. He seemed ok with it.
  • @MRDCle Cedric is really nice! It makes me think of Harry Potter but at least it's a good character. Out of the other ones I like Julian the best. I love J names but there are already too many of them in DHs family unfortunately.

I really like Alva and Alvar because it comes from the Swedish word for elf (alv) and is old names
  • @honey_suckle I love that you’ve got such a wide set of names that will be pronounceable in English and Swedish...and probably French for the rest of Canada and in the other Nordic languages! Are there masculine forms of some of the girl names you like that would work? Nora->Norbert, Norman, Nordin, something like that?
  • @lyse01 Thanks! Of course there are more names that could work, but we had to both like them too, so that was another hurdle. Our families are for sure going to expect some more specific family names in there too, but, we'll probably keep those for the middle names (it's quite common here to have 2 middle names).

Good idea with trying to use the male version of the girl names, I'll have to look into it, but can't come up with any good ones off hand. Boy names are hard!
  • If anyone's interrested/looking for inspiration, here's a list with the names that were most popular to name your child over here in 2017 (we tried to avoid the most common ones, but there's many nice ones) :

  • @honey_suckle I love love Alice and Astrid! Both were in the running for DD and we crossed them off for one reason or another (last names issues, bad personal references), we also had Freya on the list.
    this is my backup acct.

  • @thatbaintforbetty yeah, we have so many friends having babies right now that I don't want to risk naming our kids the same thing. Astrid and Freja are really cute though.
  • So, we're having a boy, and our top choices right now are.

    Tobias
    Percival
    Darius
    Sebastian
    Tristan
    Desmond
  • DH and I are sort of stuck on names.  Part of the reason we may not stick with Team Green is so we can focus on deciding.

DS1 is Thomas Philip and DS2 is Henry Leo.  Both their fn and mn’s are family names.

    Boy names we like:
    William Lewis
    Theodore Lewis
    Jack Lewis

William Lewis would be a family name but DH isn’t completely sold on William.

If it’s a girl we like Marisa (or Marissa) Claire or Amy (or Aimee) Claire.  99% sure we’re using Marisa since it was our first choice if DS1 or DS2 was a girl.  DH asked about using Jacqueline for a mn after his grandmother which I’m not opposed too.

  • We are officially team pink!

@kosmo86 I am the same!! I told DH I am set on Violet, I don't like any other name half as much. He thinks it's ok but likes other names better. I compromised on DD1 so I hope he'll give in this time
  • @tumblefluff I am no help deciding but I like all your options.
  • @lyse01 haha my dads name is John - he keeps suggesting we name the baby John. Super weird. No Way! 🙄🤦‍♀️ @tumblefluff I love your names! Marissa is so nice and unique. Also love Amy and Claire.
  • We found out we are having another boy and we are having a tough time choosing another boy name! Right now we have two we like... Silas or Miles. What do you guys think about them?

@booksandlace - DH is the same! He doesn't dislike the name but he is not sold on it either. He wants to go and look up new names and see but I feel like I have my heart set on a name for a while now and there is no way he could just look at a list and find a name that I would love more than this. sooo he will just have to deal!

    @tumblefluff I love Marisa Claire

  • H and I got the Babyname app.  Like tinder to swipe on names and it shows you a list of one's you both like.  Some of the names are just awful though.  I had Uranus then Nugget get suggested.  I pray no parents actually name their children that.  The app has been good in that it offers names I normally never would have looked at.  We find out the sex on Wednesday so at least then we can start to narrow things down.

  • We found out we are having a boy and have narrowed down to several names:

    Everett
    Wyatt
    Ezra
    Beckett

I suppose we like the double t names... :) We like one for a day or two then change our minds!

Middle names we're considering are Samuel, Richard,  and Thomas (family names)
  • We are thinking of naming our boy Cole Miller. Is this a good name? Anything funny or bad about it that we cant see? Lol
  • I read Marisa and Marissa differently.
    Marisa = Ma.ree.sa
    Marissa = Ma.riss.a

also our boy name is sliding towards Clark from Jack. Because hubs likes it better. I love both and hope to use both eventually.

    Girl name holding at Eloise.

anatomy ultrasound on Tuesday next week 😬
