Team green here. We've decided on Arielle (air-ee-elle) Grace for a girl; both names we liked for DD Hanna but they didn't seem like her name at the time. For sure we love Caleb for a boy but DH is super picky about what feels right for a middle name. For DD we only agreed on a MN 10 days before she came even though we had her first name picked out for months. Hoping he finally picks out something he likes before baby 2 shows up!
We are having a boy and picking a name has been so hard. We had 4 great options for a girl (though we had a very clear front runner), but have struggled with boys names completely. It was actually what gave me the gut feeling that we were going to have a boy.
Currently, we are leaning hard towards Theodore (nn Theo) or Milo. We also have Samuel, Finley (DH’s fave), Austin, Sullivan, Dylan, Leo, and Rowan. Basically we’re all over the place. Middle name is definitely James (after my dad). DH’s last name is hard to pronounce so we want something pronounceable for the first name. We’re also adding to a lot of boys on both sides (6 nephews total, plus numerous cousins that will be the same age and we’re close with our families, which ruled out a lot).
@jlklec19: I really like Theodore James if it's not too much with the last name!
Please Advise: We're going with Lucy, but haven't picked a middle name yet. The current favorite is Lucy Catherine, but suddenly at about 2pm Lucy Georgette F--- (ha, not a bad word, just our one-syllable last name) started sounding like a good idea. DH found himself unexpectedly up for it as well. But we need sober opinions: is it cute, or should mama just lay off the ginger beer already?
@jlklec19, I love Theodore, Milo, or Rowan with James as a middle name. Rowan was actually on our list but for a girl. Not sure if more people associate it as feminine or masculine, but I think it works for either!
@TheSouffleGirl, I think Lucy Georgette sounds great together! And also, screw what anyone else thinks, if you and your SO like it, then go for it!
Funny side note, my family were trying to guess our name choice (Malakai) and I kept telling them no as my brother-in-law went down a baby name list... well, then they said Malakai and immediately added, "ugh, I hope you don't use that!" So I kept a poker face and said nope. Won't they be surprised in April . This is also why I don't share name choices with acquaintances in real life before babe is born!
@TheSouffleGirl Theodore James is definitely my favorite. We’re also waiting to announce until LO is here in case we change our minds. Everyone pretty much knows James is the middle name as it’s a tradition (my dad and I both have our grandfather’s names as MN). It goes with my husband’s last name and gives LO lots of NN options as he grows.
And I love Lucy Georgette - that’s really cute and definitely unique!
@TheSouffleGirl love Georgette. Nothing wrong with Catherine - it’s a solid choice - but Georgette is a classic, uncommon, gorgeous name. Cheers (I’ll go get some ginger beer...that sounds tasty),
H keeps pushing to choose a name and I'm just not ready. We have a couple that we're tossing around (Jacob and Meyer) and just trying to decide which will be the first name and which will be the middle name. I like both the names but I'm not totally in love, excited over them like I was in the beginning which is a bit sad. I'm really hoping I come around!! Though with one of the twins one day I just said "Yea, I guess that's ok" and Twin B had a name haha. I don't feel the need to lock down a name yet anyways. What if he comes out and the name doesn't suit him? Naming a human is a lot of pressure.

@mermaidca I second that! It’s taken so long for me to find a name and the pressure is part of why we’re trying to wait. Although DH and I are opposites - I’m chomping at the bit (patience isn’t my best virtue) and he really wants to wait for LO’s arrival. We have plenty of time, but everyone keeps asking me and I have to be like “we’ll know when he’s here.”
@kangstadt that’s another reason we’re keeping our choices to ourselves! My sisters know our leads right now, but for the most part they know better than to say if they don’t like one of the names. They mainly just throw their weight behind their favorites of the bunch. And everyone keeps suggesting names, when the real problem is that I just need to narrow down the list we like.
Thanks everyone! We'll keep it on the top of the list. @Kangstadt, totally agree about not caring what others think at a certain level, but when I realized that the only place I'd EVER heard the name used before was for the spoiled poodle in Disney's 80s flop Oliver & Company, I started having serious doubts about my sanity.
@lyse01: Do it! The really spicy stuff has been my go-to when I'm sad about not having beer. Reed's Extra is my favorite grocery store brand, but the Triple Ginger Brew at Trader Joe's (if you have that) is also great.
@TheSouffleGirl Reeds is actually my least favorite - I think because they use pineapple juice as a sweetener. I’m down with Goslings and Barrits for mixing into rum, and Fentimans is probably my favorite for drinking straight. I also really want to try making some at home - Alton Brown’s Good Eats included it in an episode but I think I can just google. Would probably end up slightly alcoholic but if I don’t have test strips i’ll never know
@lilpotatomama our DD1 is named Noelle, I love it spelled that way
We are set on Violet for this LO, I kept nagging DH to pick a middle name and gave him some to choose from, but then he told me I could pick. Now all of a sudden I'm having a hard time choosing
So I totally broke down and told some family members that Theodore James is our front runner. Meaning unless LO gets here and we go “oh no, that doesn’t fit at all!”, that will be his name.
I feel so much relief that I finally found a name that I love. I had been struggling because we know too many people with little boys, but I finally decided that if they aren’t family or I don’t see their kids a lot, it isn’t necessary to rule out every name, especially the ones we really like.
@jlklec19 yesssss to not ruling out names just because someone you know but don’t see often has a kid named that. In fact, I’ve extended that to family - my cousin that I send a text to about once a year and see every five years or so at a major family event has a Robert, and it’s still our boy name.
@jlklec19 I’ve been trying to explain that to DH. Just because a friend of his brothers has a Evelyn doesn’t mean we can’t use it. We rarely see them.
That being said I need some serious help finding a girl name that goes with Lillian and Camden. We can’t agree on anything and I’m running out of ideas so any suggestions would be appreciated
@blueberrymomma it took me a long time to come around. But it was severely impacting our ability to choose a name and DH had to be so patient with me. I finally woke up one day and just felt like it didn’t really matter because odds were with any of our choices that he would eventually meet someone else with his name. As long as it wasn’t a cousin or friend that we’re close with, it was back on the table.
What about Olivia, Madison, Charlotte, or Sophia? Maya was a favorite of DH if LO was a girl and I think that could also go.
We finally decided for our little girl- Ruth Genevieve! We both liked Cassidy for a middle name, but DH decided we would keep it available if we have another daughter in our future
@blueberrymomma I'm biased to Evelyn as that's what DH and I settled on for this girl, but it shouldn't matter if someone else you know has a daughter with that name. Unless you make something up completely unique then the odds are high it's been used before I think people make way too big a deal about stuff like that.
Maybe your H will come around. I second Charlotte to go along with Lillian and Camden!
I'm reviving this b/c DH and I are struggling to come up with a boy's name (the only thing I don't like about not knowing the sex of the baby is having to come up with both a boy and girl name!). DH is determined to have the middle name as Paul, and the first names we like I feel don't flow with having Paul as a middle name. I do like the name Harrison, but really dislike Harry. Anyone know of any other nicknames for Harrison? DH really likes Ethan, but that's pretty much all we got.
@rennie1108 I think Harrison Paul sounds good. I like Harry as a NN but that's something that ultimately LO will decide on what he wants to be called when he gets older. All of the Harrison's that I know (the 2-3 lol), prefer to be called Harrison. FWIW.
Thanks, @mrstmoose I agree with you on the NN. We can call him whatever we want but as he gets older and decides, I would call him Harry if he prefers it Hopefully DH likes it.
I was thinking about this thread the other day! Does its total demise mean that everyone is now settled (or just still deadlocked)?
I don't think I ever posted that we settled on Lucy Catherine! In the end, DD hated Georgette, and DH and I discovered that our due date is the feast of the badass saint Catherine of Siena, so we felt like we couldn't say no.
@rennie1108 don't stress about a middle name. Luna was not my first choice for a middle name but I HAD TO HAVE the name Violet as the first name so DH picked the middle. its not something people use often

We are really struggling! We just are not on the same page at all. DH really likes Kaden but there are so many Kaden's out there. We know his middle name will be Robert after his brother who passed away. Is Zaiden too weird? Close to Kaden but with a little twist?
@jayhawkmom4: I feel like there's this phenomenon where you can put anything in front of "aden" and it registers as about the same level of common to me. I once taught an Aidan, a Hayden, a Caden, and a Jayden in one single class!
@kosmo86 and @mrstmoose very valid points!! DH hasn't texted back in response to my, "How about Harrison Paul?" So I'm not sure it's a go lol. But I'll worry more about the first name since he is very set on Paul.
@jayhawkmom4 I am personally not a fan of Kaden, so I'm with you on that. What about just Aidan as mentioned by @TheSouffleGirl? I actually really like that name - might just have to think about that for us! If we have a girl, her middle name will also be after my late sister. I really like honoring family members like that - especially ones that have passed before their time.
@TheSouffleGirl For us it means, despite much earlier posts, that my husband changes his mind on baby's name about every two weeks.
First it was Augustine (Auggie or Gus), then Raymond (Ray or Bud), then Bernard (Barney or Bernie). They are all family names on his side. I bet this continues until baby arrives and then we just get a Chris Jr.😋
Names I like get no play. I did tell my husband he could name the baby as long as it isn't another Christopher. We have way too many people on both sides with the same names and leads to alot of confusion. My 30 year old nephew is still called Little Tommy to differentiate him from all the other Toms. He hates it.
@stefanielyn1991 - I like Kennedy Ember for the very unhelpful reason that Sawyer is my maiden name AND my brother calls his wife by her first initial + Rose .

That's the secret to a great name. You have to practice yelling it before they are here so you know if you middle name them, it comes out right!
And that's so sweet about Robert.
