Re: November 2018 IUI

  • @cxismo08 sorry to hear about the cyst, but I'm happy to hear that it is shrinking. I am on gonal f start at 100 per day and increased to 125 yesterday, I go back in Saturday. This time there are "many potentials" but kinda stagnant, they didn't even give me sizes as they are all under 16. It depends who does the US, this lady was not the most helpful and I forgot to ask the DR.

@crookshanks10 they are pure FSH to help the follicles grow. Clomid acts differently as it "tricks" your body to grow follicles, it works by blocking estrogen receptors. & Yes the insurance coverage is a pain. I have limited coverage, so they cover everything including IUI, except IVF & meds.

  • @cxsimo08 I’m glad to hear that things are moving in the right direction for you! Hopefully your cyst will finish shrinking during the next couple of weeks. I took climid this cycle on CD4-8. They have been taking blood but I don’t get to see those results (I’m sure I could find them out if I asked for them), they normally only tell you if they are abnormal. I really wish my RE had an online patient portal!

@annierose3 I’m glad YH has been more on board with this whole process. How is the clomid treating you?

@mooret1118 Do you normally have short cycles? What app are you using? Are you taking clomid and what days? I don’t think CD12 is too late. I went in on CD11, from taking clomid on CD4-8, and had tiny follicles. The biggest one was a 12.

@ispi The money is probably the most stressful part. And those meds are super expensive. I have my FX that you have a better repot on Saturday.

@crookshanks10 My RE said we had 3 options for doing IUI. The first is clomid, second is femara, and the third is injectables. The first 2 only give us an 8% chance of working, the third gives us a 15% chance. She explained that injectable are the same drugs that they give IVF patients, just toned down a bit so you don’t produce too many eggs. But they are very expensive (over $1k if I remember correctly), so that’s why they don’t just jump to that option first. I’m surprised your RE didn’t even mention it as an option.

@atuxford Welcome! I’m glad your baseline went well. How are you handling the clomid? I’m thinking about asking to switch to femara for next cycle. I have to take progesterone this cycle too and I am not looking forward to it!

AFM-I had 2 mature follicles at my scan yesterday! The rest didn’t seem to grow much. I did my first ever trigger shot last night, all by myself! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. The anxiety leading up to it was worse than the actual shot. We go in for the IUI tomorrow morning. I decided to take the rest of the day off… cause why not! I’m getting hung up on timing of everything (how many hours after trigger is the IUI, how many days between ejaculation…etc), I just need to take a breather and relax! I keep looking up research papers to see what the best timing for everything is. I will be doing the IUI 39 hours after the trigger not 36 like they typically say. And MH and I didn’t have time to BD this week cause he’s on afternoons and I’m on days… So we really are putting “all of our eggs into one basket”, so to speak, and hoping the IUI timing is perfect.

  • @annierose3 Yay!!! Agreed! No my RE has me taking it on CD 3-7! I wonder what the difference is! Probably none but it's interesting how different places have you start at different time! Glad to hear DH is in a good mindset too! ^^

@cxsimo08 Yay!!! Glad it shrunk, that's great news!!

@LJMoon6 Ohhh awesome news about the follicles!!! It's so hard to keep the timing straight and stay sane at the same time so I'm glad you are taking a breather from it all ^^ FX for you!

@atuxford Hello and welcome!!!! Sorry you are hurting! :( We will have our IUIs around the same date! So we will be suffering the TWW around the same time LOL

  • Happy weekend ladies! Hope everyone is doing well!
@cxismo so glad to hear that your cyst is shrinking. Your IUI time will be here before you know it.
@LJMoon6 how did your IUI go?
@crookshanks10 hope your 2ww goes by quickly.
    @atuxford welcome!
    @ispi hows it going ?
    @annierose and @sarahtothea
Im hoping we all get our BFPs soon! So glad I have a place to share what's going on.
I Took a cheapie hpt with a bfn on today which I believe is 12dpo.I have been cramping the last couple of days but no af yet. Will have my answers by Mon with my beta. Im pretty sure im out but have a small bit of hope that im hanging on to.
  • @bobella22 sorry to hear about the negative (so far) maybe it’ll change! Everything is going well, went into today to Mo Igor the slowest growing follicles ever. I’m on CD 12 and have a 12,10,7 and lots of 6s. They will continue to monitor but they don’t seem to worried with the PCOS
  • Hey ladies! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend. IUI yesterday was a success. But holy hell, the pain! I was not prepared for that. It was worse than the HSG I had. But regardless MH count was great (I was so worried about this, for no reason whatsoever). We had 29 million post wash with 85% motility. I start the fun progesterone suppositories tonight. Testing out my trigger so I know when that's gone and there wont be any confusion. And the TWW begins!

  • Hello ladies, sorry to have disappeared the last few days. I am starting to feel doubtful about this cycle. So I thought I should stop all the IF reading for a little while. I have my CD12 US in the morning, and I am nervous because my AMH is very low and FSH is high, so I worry I won’t respond. I had two 24 and 22 mm follicles last cycle, so I am praying I respond again!

@crookshanks10 how is the 2WW going, any updates at all? I am hopeful the 2WW gets easier with each cycle.

@bobella22 I will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way on Monday for your beta. What new protocol were you planning to try if you need another cycle?

@ispi I have never heard of a trigger booster before, thank you for letting us know about that. It is good to hear about different options out there that we might not have known about. I am in the middle of trying to clarify my insurance coverage for injectables and IVF (if needed) and it is a pain! That’s great that you have some coverage at least.

@LJMoon6 I am sorry to hear that your IUI hurt. I have had some hot flashes at night from the Clomid, but no other really bothersome symptoms. The statistics that you mentioned for success with Clomid makes me feel like I am never going to succeed. Does anyone else feel like moving to IVF is a better plan? I am feeling like I am running out of time and eggs!

@sarahtothea I read somewhere that Clomid later in the cycle produces more mature eggs, but I just went on the recommendation the doctor made for me. When is your US?

@mooret1118 I have never had great luck with LH strips. What brand do you use?

@atuxford Welcome. I am sorry that you are going through this, and I hope that you find the group really helpful!

Wish me luck for tomorrow, I am nervous that it will be a flop. My insurance is making me complete one more Clomid cycle after this before they will approve injections (other than Ovidrel)
  • @LJMoon6 UGH I KNOW - IUIs can be incredibly painful for me too (tilted uterus with a double bend in my cervix).  Here's the trick 1) Make sure your RE does a stomach ultrasound to guide them 2) Never go in without a full bladder.  I pee (or don't drink if it's in the AM, and then drink 20 oz of water 1 hour before the IUI is scheduled to start and that has done the trick).  The times I've done that it's been fine - one time I missed timing and she had to use a clamp to straighten my cervix- let's just say I will never get that timing wrong again.

How are you feeling other than that? Progesterone going okay?

@annierose3 how are you doing? How was your appointment yesterday?

@bobella22 and @sarahtothea thanks! Cyst seems to be doing a little better- I feel more normal. My OPK's predicted an LH surge this weekend, but so far my BBT has not gone up so stressing about that and hoping all this mess didn't stop me from ovulating- haven't got a progesterone increase since they messed up my IUI last cycle.  FX it happens.  How are you both doing!? Bobella22 have you taken another test or waiting for Beta? How are you timing DPO?

  • @LJMoon6 Sorry to hear your IUI was painful! :( Sounds like you had great numbers so FX for you!!
    @annierose3 I hope your u/s went well!!

I'm 8dpiui and it's been going by pretty quick! I was sick this weekend so hopefully I'm on the up and up now. Last cycle the trigger shot stayed in my system for at least 14 days or 12dpiui so, it's really just a waiting game!
  • @crookshanks10 thank you, my US was ok - I had one 14 and one 16 follicle, so I go back Wednesday for another US then trigger and hopefully Friday for IUI! It was not as spectacular of a response as last month, but the nurse says it is a very normal response, so that was reassuring. Are you testing out your trigger, or just waiting past 14dpo? Ahhh!! I am excited for you! I really am keeping FX for you.

@cxsimo08 I really hope that you see that temp spike! When do you go back for another appointment? I have been monitoring temps with Ovusense and so far I think it is so helpful!
  • @annierose3 wow thanks! I actually haven't heard of this.  Just bought a femometer and I'm happy with it but I wish it had a digital read out- not just in-app.  I also find my temp variation pretty big so maybe something like Ovusense would be better for me!

  • @annierose3 Thank you! I haven't been testing out my trigger so I'm just trying to keep busy and keep my mind off testing haha. I think it definitely gets difficult the 2nd half of the TWW. I'm trying to stay positive, but I'm realistic. Hopefully tomorrow your u/s goes well and your follicles grew a good amount! Keep us updated!
  • Good luck to all. I will do my IUI on Thursday!
  • @annierose3 I'm not sure why they have me take it so early tbh! My last cycle with the timing I wasn't able to start until late on CD5 and I had 2 follicles at 26 and 22.... so I guess we will see how I respond this time lol I'll keep you posted on the results of the ultrasound on Thursday! ^^

@LJMoon6  Omg IUIs hurt so bad, I agree! I wonder if it's okay to take ibuprofen beforehand?

@cxsimo08 Ahhh I'm glad that you are starting to feel better! Hopefully you ovulate soon!

Ahhh I'm kinda freaking out. I totally forgot about my arranging my trigger shot til today and if all goes as planned I would need to trigger Thursday night! The place I get it from has the shots on back order so they are trying to get me a substitute but they need to contact my RE to make sure it's okay and I haven't heard from either all day!!!

    Introduction/DX: TTC for 6 years, DH 37 and I am 35.

IUI number: 2 (last one was years ago with Clomid)

IUI protocol: Gonal f, Ovidel, Endometrin

Date of planned IUI: November 4 & 5

Testing: Betas will be tested on November 19th

    R/R: ?

Gonal F (CD 4-8). They saw one dominant follicle at 17 mm on CD 8, and I was asked to trigger on (CD 9) Nov 3rd and come in for IUI #1 on Nov 4th and IUI #2 Nov 5th. We BD the rest of that week until I picked up my nieces and nephew for the weekend. They were a nice distraction to the TWW.

I've had several different symptoms, but I read somewhere that Endometrin does that so I'm not taking them too serious.
  • @Ljmoon6 I do have shorter cycles 24-26 days. I’m waiting right now for my scan so we will see how it goes. I think last cycle my iui was on day 15.

@annierose3 I have been hit or miss before fertility treatments with lh tests(that actually prompted the process) but after my trigger it was super positive. I use the premom brand and clear blue. I tend to have my surge during the day so it’s harder to time right for the test.

FX for a good scan today. I’m getting worn out on the hour drive each way, on the way here I was thinking if we get a successful iui this month I’m going to be most excited about not having to dive across town all month in December!

  • 19 and 17 follicles and we are triggering this evening with iui Thursday.
  • Hello ladies!

I'm in the works to get an IUI this month. I will be taking 5mg of Letrozole and a trigger shot+IUI. It will be my third IUI. I took Provera Oct 22-nov 1st. Nov 2nd I caught a really bad viral infection and was out for a good 6 days. I randomly spotted that weekend but NO AF yet. It has never taken this long after Provera to get AF and I've taken it for many years. I have a strong feeling my infection delayed it and I really don't think it's coming. I'm giving it 2 weeks after I took my last pill to call my doctor (this will be Friday) and see what to do.

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm really starting to lose my patience and it's really weighing me down!
  • Ugghhhhh I just had a repeat US to check on the smaller follicles, and although there are more smaller follicles, the two larger follicles have not grown. The RN is going to talk to my RE, but she thinks that I will have to re-dose with Clomid this cycle and re-scan. I just feel different this month, and I knew it wasn’t working 😔  Has this happened to anyone else?
  • @annierose3 Boo. Sorry to hear they're taking their sweet time! I haven't had to re-dose, but I have definitely read that people have. I hope they grow and that your re-scan goes better! Let us know what your RE says!
  • Thank you so much @crookshanks10 it makes me feel so much better to have this group that can relate to what I am going through.
  • @annierose3 It sucks that we have to worry about every appointment :( But I have my FX for you!!
  • @annierose3 I've redosed in the same cycle the last 2 cycles I've been on clomid. My follicles definitely grew a little more but just not enough 😔 it's very frustrating especially when you feel your body and just know that they're not where they need to be. Good luck to you!
  • Thank you so much for sharing that @melcab7 Will you stay on Clomid, or switch to something else because of your response? My insurance is requiring 3 cycles of Clomid before approving injections. I responded really well last month, but I feel totally different this month. Ohhhhh well. Still waiting for the call with the RE’s recommendations.
  • Quick question ladies (sorry, I'll be back later to respond to everyones comments from earlier).
I just got a message from my RE about what we will do if this cycle doesn't work. She wants to keep me on the same protocol (100mg clomid). I'm concerned because my lining at my last scan (the morning of my trigger shot), was only a 5.8. This seems way too thin to me. Thoughts? I don't seem to have any nasty side effects from the clomid but this is actually my 3rd cycle trying clomid (the first 2 were just TI with my OB). What would you guys do? Should I say something to my RE about my concerns and push for switching to femara? Or should I just trust my RE and try clomid again?

  • @LJMoon6 I would ask about switching to Femara. Femara doesn't thin your lining like Clomid does and since you've done 3 rounds of Clomid, it may be a good idea to switch it up!
  • @annierose3 Oh no! Sorry you have to redose >< GL with your next scan!

@LJMoon6 I have read that clomid can thin out linings, but I honestly don't know anything about femara so I couldn't say one way of another... but if it feels like the clomid isn't working for you then I would ask to switch for sure.

AFM I went for my US today and I had 3 follicles: 23mm, 23mm, 14mm and the nurse said I had a good lining so I'm triggering tonight and doing the IUI Saturday morning!

  • @sarahtothea Sounds like your u/s went perfect! Best of luck to you this round!! (:
  • Thank you so much for the feedback ladies! I did end up emailing my RE’s office. At first the nurse was a little annoyed and said “If the RE thought it was a problem then she would have said something.” But I pushed a little more and had her forward my message to my RE. My RE agreed that my lining was fairly thin and that we could try switching to letrozole. Yay!

Now another thing that has me a little upset is that they never told me to start taking baby aspirin. At my IUI the doc told me to keep taking it and I told her I never was. She never told me to start or anything. So when I messaged the nurse today she said I should have started taking that right away and that I should start it now. She did apologize that no one told me to start taking it. But still I’m upset. Anyone else taking baby aspirin? Is this critical? I know it probably would have helped with my lining a little bit.

@cxsimo08 I have a tilted uterus too. I definitely think this was the cause of my pain. I also had an empty bladder. Next time I’ll go with a full bladder and ask them to do a stomach ultrasound. Progesterone hasn’t been too bad. I don’t feel any side effects from it. Even the liners I’m using aren’t bad (I got the thinnest liners I could find at the store). The only bad side effects I’ve felt this cycle have been from the trigger shot. I was having really bad hot flashes. They’re mostly gone now. I’m also testing out my trigger and that’s pretty much out of my system now too, squinter of a positive this morning.

@ispi and @mooret1118 How did you IUIs go today!?

@sarahtothea Were you able to get your trigger shot from the pharmacy? FX for your IUI on Saturday. Keeps us updated!

@tamscottluvs Hi! And welcome. Good luck. The TWW sucks!

@melcab7 Sorry I have no advice for what you’re going through. I hope AF shows up soon.

@annierose3 That’s good that you can re-dose and this cycle might not be a complete loss. I never knew that was an option.

@crookshanks10 Thanks for the advice. I definitely want to switch to Femara. We will only try IUI 4 times (due to money). So I would like to try all 3 options if possible. I’ve now done 3 cycles of clomid (only 1 IUI with it tho). I’m hoping to do the next 2 cycles with Femara. And then the last cycle with injectable. If none of that works then at least I know we’ve tried all the options. Saturday will be here before you know it. I have my FX for you.

  • @YAY! I'm so glad you're going to try Femara. I have had pretty good luck on it in regards to follicles and lining, so I hope you do too! I know OBs/REs take different stances on the number of cycles you can do with Clomid and mine both said 3 so that's primarily why I moved on, in addition to it not "working". I have my fx for you too girlfriend!
  • @ljmoon16sometimes its best to be your own advocate and get the answers that you are looking for.

IUI went well, I will do the hcg booster on Tuesday and test 14 DPO. I NEVER had spotting in all the IUIs that I had, and I had ALOT yesterday. Super weird. I am not getting my hopes up. My husband is expected to travel mid December for work, I am contemplating taking a month off if this does not work this month. Either a full month off or a month of femera, as that is not as stressfull and time consuming as injections. We will see.

  • @ispi I'm glad to hear your IUI went well! I hope your TWW goes quickly! (:
  • @crookshanks10 Thank you! How are you doing?

@LJMoon6 Yes I was! I called the next day and they had been able to get in contact with the doctors office just fine! It was a little more complicated to mix up the substitute but it went okay!!! And that's great that they changed you over! Hmmm I've heard that a lot of people take baby aspirin...They never told me to take it either, I wonder if I should be as well!

@ispi Ah sorry you had spotting! I had a bit when I had mine as well! FX for you!!!

  • Thank goodness for the holidays as a distraction during the tww.

Does anyone ever feel like they have been punched in the kidneys the night of the  Iui.  I didn’t mention it to the doc after the first but it happened again last night. I’m really trying not to stress and freak out and ask a million questions to the dr but I’m not curious if that’s normal.
  • @moorett1118 yes holiday is perfect for a TWW.

Just curious does anybodys doctor doctor make their husband push the IUI applicator
  • @ispi I wonder if yes your docs way of involving him, which is nice. My husband hasn’t been there for the actual procedure due to work he would miss 4+ hours off so I’ve always gone by myself.
  • @moorett1118 it is very time consuming and difficult with working!
  • @ispi I haven't heard of any doctor's making their DH push the IUI applicator, that's interesting!

Update: BFN 14dpiui. Cramping a bit but still on progesterone suppositories so I hope AF comes sooner than later. Thinking 1 more IUI then on to IVF. :/
  • Oh no @crookshanks10 im so sorry to hear that. Many get bfps on their last IUIs so maybe that will be you too.
@ispi I have never heard of the husband doing that either. It's nice that they involve him.
@LJMoon6 glad you were able to switch
@mooret1118 sorry you were in pain for your IUI.
How are the rest of you ladies holding up?
I just finished my femara and going back to my RE on Weds. Hoping my body responds better than with the clomid. This will be my 3rd IUI. My second was a cp and the last 2 months I had a polyp and then the next month clomid didnt really work.
