Re: Symptoms - Week of 10/21

  • @harrierwifeOMG ACNE. just add braces and it's 7th grade all over again, amiright?

  • @luckystar28 I’m surprised you were given zofran and I was told it’s not safe for pregnancy anymore??? I guess each add is different.

I’m on the nausea struggle bus and have lost 10# in 7 days. I can’t keep anything down and the unisom and b6 helps cut the puking down some but still doesn’t stop it.
  • @inomniaparatus2 Your OB said it wasn’t safe for pregnancy? My MFM at Stanford said he wasn’t as concerned and prescribed it right away.

From my own research, I was hoping there would be some updated data, but of course not (trials in pregnant women aren't going to happen for understandable ethical reasons, so most data is retrospective - so looking backwards at whether it was used in cohorts of babies - these types of trials have all kinds of issues because nothing is "controlled"). The data still shows that fetal risk is inconclusive - some groups showed an association with heart defects (though the increased rate versus those without zofran is extremely small, if present) and others showed no issues.
  • I am so sorry for everyone that is so miserable! I hope it gets better for you soon!

i am 8+3 and my boobs hate running, I am in bed every night at 8:30, and I wake up starving in the middle of the night!
  • @luckystar28 I guess it depends on your doctor. Mine would not prescribe it. I would follow your doctors advice if they say it’s ok, go for it.
  • MS has been getting increasingly worse this week. Today I felt hungover when I woke up - completely exhausted and the thought of eating anything made me want to vomit. I decided to try some Nauzene this afternoon and was surprised how much better I felt after taking it. Hopefully it will tide me over for a weekend with my ILs.
  • Morning sickness or Food Poisoning?
I'm 8w4d and have had mild afternoon nausea starting end of week 7. No vomiting just feeling yuck. Two days ago my husband got sick after dinner (vomiting) but it wasn't so bad and resolved by morning. My son and I ate the same thing and were fine. The next day, son and I ate that night's dinner for lunch and son was fine but I spent all last night 6pm-7am vomiting and was completely dehydrated. Doc said to just go to ER to get a few bags of fluids because I couldn't even hold down small sips of water. In the ER they basically attributed it to morning sickness and wanted to give me meds for nausea (which I declined). I'm not totally against meds during pregnancy, but would prefer to avoid unless absolutely necessary. And at that point was just feeling nauseous, no more gagging/heaving/vomiting. I left ER after 6 hrs still feeling nauseous and ended up filling prescription for anti-nausea. I feel like I can't keep this up while working full-time and taking care of a toddler so I'm weighing pros and cons of meds and had a few questions for others:

Has anyone ever had food poisoning during pregnancy? I'm not sure it much matters, but I worry about the impact on baby. How did you know it was FP and not just morning sickness?
Has anyone taken anti-nausea meds during pregnancy and what was your experience?
If yes to above, what meds?
  • @VGN0929 I had food poisoning at about 14 weeks with my first. My midwife assured me it was fine. They gave me an US because I didn't believe them, and sure enough, he was jumping around. Confirm with your doctor, but it should be okay.
  • @ruby696 Thank you that does make me feel better!
  • Im.late to the party but @KissMeImScottish how are you doing?
You may or may not remember, but I've rotated my whole life between anxiety and depression, and oh good GOD was the PPD bad. I am already trying to prevent it again because I just got out of it and I do not want to go back.
For me, when I'm on that weird edge of depression, I try to take a day or two to just let everything I can let go, go. I know that would be even harder with 3 littles, but sometimes I just need a break. So i focus on DS, let the house become a bit of a mess, walk away from the social media and any non-positive human interaction (I'm a major introvert) and my energy starts coming back. If that doesn't work, I start setting small goals for myself and just tackle little things very slowly. It starts to snowball and I start feeling better and capable again.

  • Hey all! Im a bit late for the post, but 7w3d and the last 4-5 days have been horrible with all day sickness feeling. First pregnancy so I dont really know how to deal. However I am aware its really not bad at all after reading tons of comments here. I just feel sick and no hunger, but havent actually been sick yet. Queasy since I wake till I go to bed that makes me just want to do nothing all day.

    Also, the acne... so annoying!

Still constantly running to the bathroom to pee.

Hoping it will get better for all in the next few weeks!
  • Late here too...and symptoms have been weird. I'm 5w3d, and knock on wood, no real nausea yet. But also no appetite (literally the only thing I actively want to eat are Trader Joe's spud crunchies and OMG they are good), lots of fatigue, and my little hospital stint for right lower quadrant pain was a special kind of treat.

The worst, though, has been the depression. I had no idea prenatal depression was a thing until I was trying to settle myself down from a hysterical sobbing spell Wednesday, found an article about that, and it described my exact experience since about an hour after the stick gave me a plus sign. So I'm keeping an eye on it, and have a counselor in mind should I need care that way. Even just being able to name it was a HUGE relief though.

In the meantime I'll just be over here wiping out a(nother) bag of crunchies until something else sounds good!
  • Does anyone else wake up extra nauseous after sleep? Like a nap or waking up middle of the night to use the restroom? These are high-vomit times for me. I’m assuming dehydration
  • Man the motion sick/hangover feeling is strong over here. My upper stomach feels firm and bloated like I have tons of gas to burp. Sooo blah. But I’ll be happy if this is as bad as it gets!
  • @luckystar28 yes. Every time I wake up I feel like a bad hangover: nauseated, dizzy, head pounding. If I get up slowly and have time to sit on the couch and sip water, I start to feel a little better after awhile. It’s worst in the middle of the night because it keeps me awake. Are your meds helping at all?
  • @luckystar28 yup. That just started for me.

I am 6 weeks today and it’s currently 4:50am. I just woke up because I started feeling sick and had to run to the bathroom. The puking has started.
  • I feel asleep at 7pm last night after I put the kids to bed. I slept till 6. I don’t think I have slept that long since before my daughter was born. Worse part is I am not even feeling all the refreshed.

@luckystar28 I had puking my last pregnancy from 5 weeks till 3 months postpartum and it was always worse after sleeping or napping. I don’t know if it was the lack of eating or just my stomach turning sour when I slept. 2 things that helped me that were a little different than the standard advice, as odd as it sounds, was pop or carbonation right after I woke up - it almost made me burp out the uneasieness in my stomach as opposed to throwing it up and I got on reflux medication for 2 weeks and it reset my stomach a bit and helped.
  • @TJtheGoat Thanks for asking. I do think they’re helping me keep food down which is great. The nonstop nauseous feeling doesn’t stop though. Nor does the pounding headache! Hopefully once second trimester hits...
  • Praying this isn't TMI, but if it is, apologies in advance. I had a complete stranger do a pelvic exam in the ER with a light-up speculum over the weekend without so much as telling me his name so my sense of propriety is kind of off right now.

I just went to wipe after a successful BM (which, knock on wood, hasn't remotely been a problem...) and there was a HUGE string of mucus coming out. WTF?! Apparently this is fairly routine but was a first for me. (I mean, for the last week I've felt like I wet myself by noon every day, but nothing has been thick and stringy like that. And yes, I realize I'll have to deal with much more in the way of random body fluids during and after this pregnancy, but still, ew.)
  • @ki1244 Totally normal, at least for me. Happened to me last pregnancy, and has been picking up this time too

  • @ki1244 I haven’t experience that but I definitely understand why you would be freaked out.

Does anyone know the difference between stomach flu or food poisoning and morning sickness? I’m trying to decide what woke me up at 4:30 lol.
  • @antera23 For me, morning sickness was an almost constant state of feeling hungover with occasional vomiting.  Food poisoning or stomach bug was always emergency-like vomiting and usually came with diarrhea as well.  Also, the latter two go away after a day or two and the morning sickness does not.

  • @shamrocandroll thank you! I figured out it was the stomach flu or food poisoning. You describe morning sickness so well! It totally is like being constantly hungover!
