If you go to www.integratedgenetics.com, you can fill out a form online to “Estimate my cost for MaterniT21 PLUS”. Put your phone number in and they’ll call you back and tell you how much it’ll cost. My insurance is one of the few that still does not cover it, so I have to pay $299 out of pocket. I am not high risk or AMA. I’m going to have the blood drawn tomorrow at exactly 10 weeks. ETA my insurance company couldn’t give me a straight answer and were zero help

Thanks for sharing, I just did this and got the same answer. They said insurance did cover but then said it'd be $600+ out of pocket but that they could lower it to $299. That's not insurance covering! Lol. I said no thank you, I can't justify the cost with other things we have going on when the NT scan is included.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge will they send you something in writing? I should call them back and tell them they are crazy haha

  • @missy052819 they originally said the $600+ on the phone and then said they could get it down to $299 so I'm betting they would say the same to you. They asked if I wanted to explore that further and I said no thank you so I didn't get anything in writing.

  • Had my blood draw yesterday and I’m already irrationally checking my email to see if I got the “we got your sample please set up an account” email.  Since I’m AMA I am terrified of something being wrong with this LO.  This is going to be a long week.
  • @chucksmom15 Right there with you. The longest wait of the whole pregnancy started today for me with my blood draw
  • Had my blood draw yesterday and was told it would take two weeks. That feels like forever.
  • I had my NT scan and blood test yesterday. Nasal bone was VERY present (poor kid probably got my giant nose) and the fluid behind the neck was only about 1.1 mm so I’d be very surprised to have anything show up on the blood test results.  **TW However, talking to my aunt last night, her first pregnancy ended in a late term miscarriage (23 weeks) because baby had trisomy 13, so I’m very thankful I am getting the test done, just in case. End TW**

  • I got my results in my online patient portal, so it’s not in laymen’s terms, haha, and it just says “results: negative” so I’m just assuming that’s all good?  Haha, they send a letter for normal results and call for problems, so I’m guessing my letter will show up on Monday...

  • @BWhitta yes, negative is good. That means there were no markers indicating a higher risk.

  • They told me 2 weeks with my last pregnancy and I got the results in 1 @minnemiska.  Hope yours comes back faster too!

@mrskoz428 which blood test did you get?  I might be wrong but if your just getting the bloodwork for the NT I don’t think it screens for trisomies.  It may.  It’s been a while since I had that done but I got NIPT in addition to that previously.

@chloe97 glad I have someone to wait with! 🤞🏻 We both get fast results and healthy outcomes.
  • @chucksmom15 it looks for any marks that identify an extra chromosome, including trisomy 13 and 18. The geneticist said when results come back, it will either come back negative, meaning no increase risk of extra chromosomes, or positive, meaning an increased risk of an extra chromosome. She said they should be able to know which chromosome pairnis at an elevated risk.

  • Gotcha @mrskoz428! I’m super anxious about the trisomies too.  And everything else that could be wrong.  The genetic testing will make me a little less anxious but I won’t feel completely at ease until after I get evaluated by MFM in November.
  • @chucksmom15 yes, the geneticist said that this blood test that I had is 96% accurate for identifying the possibility of trisomies and 98% accurate for the possibility of down’s. It’s not nearly as accurate as the NIPT, for obvious reasons since it only looks at my blood and not fetal dna, but I’ll take these odds over nothing!

  • @chucksmom15 I was curious since we'll only do the sequential, not NIPT (most likely). It measures hormones and proteins in your blood which are produced by the fetus but isn't testing fetal DNA. From healthline.com:
The sequential screening can test for the possibility of open neural tube defects. Examples of these defects include spina bifida and anencephaly, when the brain and skull doesn’t properly form.
The screening can also detect Down syndrome and trisomy 18, two chromosomal abnormalities.

  • There are so many different tests they offer you @kvh22 it’s hard to keep track.  I know the genetic testing I’m getting doesn’t screen for spina bifida.  Have to get the quad screen to check for that.
  • You have way more will power than me @secicc12!  It will take everything I have to wait until I get home so my DH and I can look together.  Congrats on a healthy LO!
  • Congratulations, @secicc12
  • Aughhhh! This wait is killing me. Had the blood test for NIPT on 10/17 and I have my 12 week appt this Thursday so wondering if dr already has results and will tell us on Thursday or if we will get them by then. I am In my 40’s and first pregnancy so freaking out a bit. How long did it take you to get your NIPT results?
  • @dbfirstimer call your dr office and see if they got them. They might assume you're OK waiting until your appointment but no need to drive yourself crazy! It's worth a shot!

  • This time around I am getting my blood drawn waaaaay late (12w3d) for the NIPT test whereas my last pregnancy i had my blood drawn week 9 and results by week 11.  I'm kind of pissed that i couldn't get this done earlier as I am hesitant to totally announce until everything comes back AOK.

  • Ugh. Called Panorama today and my test hasn’t showed up yet. It’s been 5 days since my draw and now I’m not even sure I will have results next week. TW DHs cousin who I’m really close with is due 3 weeks before us and found out she’s a CF carrier today. She called me freaking out. And I tried to calm her down with the statistical unlikelihood that her husbands is a carrier too (1 in 31 people are carriers). That sent me down the rabbit hole and I started looking up trisomies  statistics at my age (39) and had a minor meltdown. End TW This week is just DRAGGING!
  • @chloe97 I'm sorry the results are taking so long. FX you get swift and good news! I am a CF carrier but DH is not. I'm sure everything will be fine with DH's cousin's husband results. Those 2 weeks waiting to find that out were hell. My sister has already found out that she's a carrier (23 and not currently in a relationship but able to get it covered as she's "of childbearing age" and I'm a carrier). My brother had a 50% chance of being a carrier since I am but SIL was tested while pregnant and she's not :)

  • I just made a bunch of phone calls because I got really curious about NIPT and if maybe it was covered or low OOP cost. It is not covered because I’m low risk and it AMA and I’d have to pay $349. I told the Counsyl woman that was too much for me and she said they do financial assistance but we don’t qualify. Oh well. I’m okay with waiting, I’d rather that than the test suddenly become medically necessary!

@chloe97 that’s so stressful. I think they did CF screening on me at my preconception visit and I thought that was standard. But I guess they can’t do that if you don’t have a preconception visit. Hoping everything turns out just fine for her and your own fears are nothing to worry about ❤️

  • Another update on my saga of genetic testing.  I had the two NIPT tests come back with not enough fetal DNA and my NT scan came up wonderful with a nasal bone present and a 1.2 thickness in neck (which is considered normal I guess) I was feeling relieved but my doctor ran a 1st trimester blood screen in conjunction with the NT scan it came back positive for Trisomy 21. But all it gave was an increased chance of Downs Syndrome.  So my age automatically puts me in a high risk category of 1 in 61 and with the blood test it was actually 1 in 82.  My doctor feels this is still pretty low and that I can either do a CVS test or an Amnio.  I have to wait for the Amnio until week 16, and CVS would have to be done this week.  After talking about it I decided to wait until week 16 to get the Amnio, as I have had it before in my last pregnancy.  The positive screen is because the normal risk amount is 1 and 250 for my age group and mine came up 1 and 82.  I don't love this but I guess this is what I am in for.  I am hoping I can make it three more weeks until I get my amnio and have some piece of mind.  I do truly believe everything will be ok, I just hate having that increased risk.

@maloneT23 sorry you have to wait another 3 weeks. Probability is still low overall so try not to stress. Three more weeks and surely all is ok
  • They haven’t received it @chloe97??  Can you call your doctor and find out what’s going on??

Thats so stressful @maloneT23.  Hopefully, everything comes back like you think it will but the wait is gonna be torture.
  • @MalonT23 I'm so sorry you have to wait to have reassurance. Thinking of you and FX that everything turns out ok!

  • @MalonT23 my neck fluid also measured 1.2 mm. Anything less than 2 mm is considered normal. I’m so sorry you are in limbo and hope that all comes back negative when you do finally get results.

  • @MalonT23 I'm sorry that you're dealing with this uncertainty right now. Does the NIPT test for that or is the amnio more accurate? I'm curious now that NIPT has become so common.

  • Thanks everyone.  @kvh22 the NIPT would screen  for low risk on these and they have a 98% accuracy.  Because I was not able to get a reading from the NIPT I really only have the NT ultrasound to go on.  The Amnio will be more conclusive on this.  They don't do Amnio's as much because the NIPT screens are taking there place and are less invasive.  The Amnio carries a 1 in 500 chance of miscarriage. But its less riskier than the CVS test which is a 1 in 100 chance of miscarriage.
