I quit FB when going through infertility and it did wonders for my mental health and outlook. Also, I would get sucked in for hours mindlessly scrolling... yikes. I was so much happier and productive as soon as I quit!
I wish this app was better or there was a better choice than FB to migrate too. I still have an account but rarely go on due to the political rants and my feed being taken over by MLMs. Plus it was a total time suck for no good reason.
Well, it's too bad Google+ is shutting down. Though in all honesty, I'd be willing to use something other than Fb. I'm just looking forward to something more private, where I can share pictures and info with y'all without it being publicly available.
I’m so tired we’re skipping bath time tonight. I fully recognize that DS will fight bedtime harder because of the change in routine, but I’m too tired to fight through a bath. Bad mom.
Im excited for the eventual (way down the road) FB transition too. I’m wary of over sharing here since it’s public. Never know what creepers are reading
I think I'm naive about creepers, but every once in a while I panic and think "What if my MIL is lurking on this board?!" since I've told her before that I'm part of a group on The Bump. She has trouble figuring out most technology (besides Facebook, of which she is basically an undercover FBI agent), so I'm not truly worried. But it does cross my mind and freak me out sometimes. Or if one of my co-workers, especially the annoying one, ever stumbles across this. God, what paranoia I have. LOLOL
You guys. I work in a library, and this evening I'm covering the circulation desk. All of the students are currently very quiet and focused, and the library is pretty much silent right now. So what do I do? Naturally, I let out THE LOUDEST fart in all of history.
@hannahbananas11 - good timing - lol. My has has been OUT OF CONTROL tonight.
I’m also looking forward to the FB move. It’s just so much easier on mobile. My May ‘12 group moved about a month or so before the babies were due so that birth announcements were more private and I liked that. There are over 180 of us there and it seems huge but I feel like I know all of them. It’s been absolutely incredible to have the support of my May moms for almost 7 years now.
For my March ‘15 group, they moved a little sooner but not much. That’s a smaller group - just under 100.
@megpants209- you did boot camp thus you are the opposite of lazy! I get so winded walking up the stairs to the train platform every day, I contemplate riding the elevator. At the end, it will happen I am sure.
I think right around February is a good time to move. That allows some time still for people to join in here and really create some connections. I was lurking a few of the other boards that are due soon, and some of them had pretty organized systems for moving over, and how to make sure no creepers got through. For now, though, I'll just deal with the Bump app a while longer.
FB is both so great and so evil. I've wasted so much time there. But it would be so much better than this damn app. I'd participate way more if this were private (I worry about creepers) and not as glitchy.
I would be down for a facebook! Especialy being a ftm, having the ability to stay connected wouls be awesome.
In other news I almost called the cops on a former neighbor. They moved last week but left thier poor kitty behind! I realized it 2 days after the move. The kitty was on my porch trying to get in! Poor baby. I put him in a screened in area for safe keeping. My good neighbor gave me their contact number and I was like ummm you left something. It turned into a huge mess. The useless people finally decided they wanted thier cat and then got all grumpy with me saying we wanted to keep him. Let's just say a not so nice text from me was exchanged(there may or may not have been name calling and threats to call police) and the kitty is back with his original owners. I just hope he will be ok.
@ohsunnydays- oh that's a great idea. Open a pseudonym account that has no other connections? That might be my work around because seriously I will never go back on FB regular style.
One thing I liked that my J17 group did - started a private group here before moving to fb. I want to say it started around month 7 or 8? There were terms for joining - nothing crazy, but you had to at least be somewhat active on the public page and not someone who started drama constantly. We got to know each other so much better and privately. Then we migrated to fb a month or two after babies were born. The private groups are moderated by members and not bump gods.
Like @ginger1228, I also loved the private group. I’m leery of posting things on the main board for the same reasons others have stated. The private board is just that. It’s private. You have to be a member to view anything. I typically start sharing more once things have either moved to a private group or a FB group.
Imostly use FB to chat with my other bump group. when we did it someone stsrted it kinda early like Nov or Dec, we were March 17, virtually no one joined that early, me included, i joined late, but didn’t participate until my son was born.
I was in F14 and we never went to FB, but we went to another message board community with a much better app that’s password protected so only members can access it. It’s extremely simple and another layer of privacy as well.
The one plus side to this hurricane coming through is that it brought autumn with it. It was 52*F when I woke up this morning in Atlanta. My boots are back on my feet after a long hiatus. Paired with a black wrap dress and a good hair day, I'm in a great mood today! And it's FRIDAY!
I ended up leaving The Bump with a large group of my S15 bmb during the "exodus" and we eventually all migrated to Facebook from the other platform we ended up on for our pregnancies. We still keep in touch all the time over there. We had a few people who have left the group, mostly the drama llamas. Now we are a great group and I am grateful everyday that I have them. I have never met any of them in person but that is mainly because I am in Atlantic Canada with no one really close enough to meet up with. A lot of the ladies have met though.
I definitely look forward to a more private spot to share pictures and anything really. Of course I am no way ready at this point for any migration. I think it's important to weed out as much of the crazy and drama llamas as possible.
you guys are way more active and chummy than my O15 BMB. Happy to migrate wherever - I'm addicted to FB but would gladly use anything else. I think a private group here would be beneficial to those not on FB. So glad you guys are way more active and conversational!
@sjnsjnsjn Confession: I've actually not seen any more than the first two episodes of Anne with an E! I grew up watching the original Anne of Green Gables mini-series with my mom, and I couldn't get into the new series, since the old series had so many good memories tied to it. I remember the old series would come on once each year, and my mom and I would watch it together on the small TV in my parents' bedroom. Then in college, I watched it each year with my best friend, who would absolutely sob when we'd get to the scene of Matthew dying. My thing was Gilbert: I had (and still have) a huge crush on him!
@hannahbananas11 I loved the original series also! That’s why I haven’t even tried watching the new one. I just know nothing could ever compare to the original for me.
@allthingsgo The new series is very well-made and good, and the actors are all incredible. I think that if I had seen it without any preconceived ideas, I would have loved it. It reminds me of the new live-action Jungle Book, or Beauty and the Beast, or the upcoming Aladdin remake. They're all wonderfully-made, but if you're super attached to the original, it won't hold up.
Family Halloween party tomorrow. Shirts for DH & I are made. My kids are wearing dragon union suit pj’s to complete the ridiculous family costume ensemble.
On the Facebook topic, remember that girl back in like week 11 who started a Facebook group and invited us all to join and definitely wasn’t a Nigerian prince offering to wire us 4.5 million dollars if we would just give her our bank account? Good times.
This morning I woke up and paid my always outrageous Comcast cable bill. I’m done. I’m canceling and getting a streaming service. We have a Firestick and I’m not paying $300 a month anymore. Fuck you Comcast. I’m out!
@okayestmom12 - We have had a shockingly low level of crazies. Kind of awesome - kind of disappointing.
@madreofdragons - We dropped Comcast and now just use our Roku's (one TV we have gotten since we cut the cord even has it built in). We pay $50 for internet (we pay for higher speed than what most people have since we WFH a lot), $10 for Netflix, $13 for Hulu, $10 for CBS, and we have prime ($100 or whatever a year which we also use to buy stuff online). We honestly don't miss much.
@madreofdragons@kayjay44 I am on my husband about cancelling cable ALL.THE.TIME. It's outrageous what we pay! We barely watch it, I have like every streaming service, but my son LOVES Nick Jr. I wish I could just pay for that channel or get everything streaming but not ALL his shows are on streaming so here I am paying like over $200 a month for Nick Jr. shows
@kayjay44 we have the same set up minus CBS and don’t miss cable at all. It’s ridiculous how much it was costing us for a bunch of channels we never watched.
I am also a bit surprised/disappointed we haven’t had more crazies.
@danixbanani24 - is it an option on Sling? It's like $20 a month and is a streaming service. We got lucky and cancelled cable when DD was a newborn, so she doesn't really know any different.
@allthingsgo - I gotta have my old people TV shows! NCIS, Criminal Minds, Hawaii Five-0, etc. We actually just added it recently and have no regrets.
