@k2k2tog Maybe blend it up and make it into a soup? I've never made butternut squash soup before, but it's delicious and now I want some. Is it whole or cut up?
@kvh22 I just talked to our building security today about a closer parking space! He hooked it up! I do want to ask my OB when I see her next week though if I can get a temporary handicap placard because it really has been a struggle walking across the parking lots with my asthma. Plus, that way, I can use it for when I have to travel to different sites for work, too.
My OB sent me an update through the patient portal, and I scrolled back through my chart. It listed my max weight just before I gave birth last time, and I was all:
Does anyone have a Maid/Matron of Honor speech that you want to let me plagiarize?
Let me preface this with saying that I'm MOH in my college roommate's wedding the weekend after this (so 10ish days from now), but we are not best friends. We actually lost touch after college for several years. I mean, we picked back up where we left off, but we were never besties. I love her and want her to be happy and I'm so honored to be in her wedding, but I don't know how to write this freakin speech. Her actual BFF is a straight dude that her mom and MIL vetoed being in her wedding party because they decided it's "inappropriate" which angers me to no end, so I got the MOH title. And a speech. Help.
@poshspice I was a shitty MOH. I was a selfish 22 year old and was pretty blah about the whole wedding since she was my age and he was 51 and I just didn't agree with it at the time. I winged it. I was told it wasn't bad, but I was so fucking nervous I don't remember it. I regret being such a shitty friend. But I do remember telling a short story from the beginning of our friendship and saying something about how I didn't know then how close we'd become and how much I love her and that I can tell she's a happier person when she's with oldy and wished them a happy future together.
@eatinwatermelonseeds are they still together?? Dang, that's quite an age gap. I actually already wrote a MOH speech for my bestie's wedding but I can't use any of it because the relationships are so different.
@sleepy33 Boy BFF is actually getting a speech of his own. I still have to do one.
Has anyone had a summer baby before? What do you do with them? My son is going to want to go to the beach and go swimming and baby will be too little for swimming but with DS being a winter baby I'm just used to the idea of keeping baby in the house for all of flu season but that's not really necessary when it's not flu season... Right?
@poshspice no, she left him last year. Actually moved out on their 6th wedding anniversary. They'd been together 10 years. But they were just too different and she missed out on a lot dating (and then marrying) a 49 year old at 18. Reading that, I know 18 and 49 is right but I think I may have gotten their ages at the wedding wrong 😂
@poshspice maybe tell a funny story from school, then say how happy you were to reconnect, then say something sweet and sappy about how great the couple is together. Leave em on an awwww and cheers.
@eatinwatermelonseeds best advice is if you want to keep your older child active go out early in the morning to play before its hot or swim then. During the middle of the day as it gets hotter do inside activites as much as you can. Then let your son go outside to play in the evenings once it starts to cool off again. For middle of the day you can always see if a local library offers toddler story times also lots of barnes and nobles have things like that too.
You may also want to see if any theatres have $1 theatre days meant for small children to take him to. I'm sure no one will complain about you bringing a baby because all the kids are loud anyways.
Its hot as fuck in Texas I literally don't go outside in the summer in the middle of the day.

@eatinwatermelonseeds I have 2 summer babies (mid June). With DD1 we just did whatever because our focus was all on her. Still did most of our usual summer stuff, but it was so much easier to tweak and adjust based on baby. But with DD2 she got dragged along to everything. I bought a mesh ring sling for the pool and lake, which was awesome. We also brought our popup sunshade everywhere. She was so little that she really didn't move, so I could lay her down to snooze on a A+A blanket in there out of the sun while DD1 played outside or whatever. We also used the bassinet attachment for our stroller all summer long. I felt it was way nicer for her than being in a hot car seat while we were out and about. She could stretch and move and I felt like it was much cooler and more comfortable.

Why didn't I think about a mesh ring sling?! I'm in Washington state so the hottest it gets is maybe 90s for like a week and then high 70s-mid 80s all the rest of the days. We're moving and are hoping to find a big back yard and I'm thinking about going halfsies with my bff on a big ish pool for the kids so we can still stay home a bit and baby can sleep and rest but our kids can still play. I put a little dome thingy for the beach on my registry. I plan on wearing every where. I'm just really paranoid. My son was born in November, and in about March he got really sick and we almost lost him. I feel like I'm going to be wanting to put this one in a bubble. I'm already way more anxious than I ever was during his pregnancy.

@psychobutthead that I honestly could not tell you. It was a cheapie of one of those lightening deal sites. I don’t have it anymore, but I’ll be on the lookout for a similar one for this LO
@eatinwatermelonseeds I was very much in survival mode trying to prepare before DD2 was born, lol. She and DD1 are only 2 years apart and DD1 was such an active toddler, I had to be able to keep her busy and engaged but she wasn’t old enough to do very much fully on her own. I expect next summer to be even busier, but also probably not as challenging since the older two are so much more independent at their ages now.
@psychobutthead lol I know. It's pretty mild weather here year round. I'm from the north east so the winters here are nothing and the humidity is no where near the same in the summer. Summer isn't bad at all as far as heat except that AC doesn't come standard in any houses here, which sucks when it's 90-100.
mcewen3 i found some on amazon. But some people rate it high and then there are some who hate it. May be good in water. But while googling I saw that tula has a mesh part to their tula's now. But Its just to keep baby cooler in summer not to get in water with.
Hell we rarely go to the splash pad here so maybe i wont bother with one at all.

Welp, Hurricane Michael should be here around midnight. 😳 At least it’s down from a Category 3 to 1 since he came into Georgia, but still not very comforting that’s it’s headed practically right toward us. I wasn’t too worried at the beginning of the week, but y’all, it’s been bad, especially for Mexico Beach and Panama City Beach, FL. We should be fine, but the pine trees close to our house make me so nervous. Send prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts, whatever it may be our way. 😬
@msb615 I hope you all are safe and the storm passes quickly. Please update when you’re able to.
@k2k2tog I love to make a winter squash casserole with butternut squash and add in Italian sausage (I only use 1 onion, use dried thyme, and omit nuts/seeds). Recipe here if you’re interested: https://piedmontgrocery.com/winter-squash-casserole/
My husbands tools got stolen early monday morning and our insurance won't cover them.
My husband told me his boss was borrowing tools from fellow coworkers until we can replace them.
Thats not what boss did. My husbands boss went out and bought my husband all new tools. He replaced everything even replace somethings that weren't even missing. He got him a new tool bag. He even bought all brand name tools.
This man spent over $800 in tools in a day to help us.
Neither one of our own families even offered to just lend us money to replace them and we always pay back every cent we borrow from everyone.
Sometimes people are so good in this world that I'm left shocked.
Does anyone have any idea how I can thank this man?

@psychobutthead That is such a sweet thing for your boss to do! I love this story! If I were your husband's boss, I would appreciate a heartfelt thank-you card. I think people have lost touch with how a simple thank- you does a long way. And I would just want to know that my mind gesture wasn't wasted on someone whose going to forget it in a few weeks.
@expandcontract oh i cant tell him tthank you in person. The hormones are bad and I'll ugly cry/sob through it. Im thinking of maybe making him some cookies or crocheting him a blanket?

@psychobutthead how awesome! I'd buy his favorite bottle of alcohol or like a Groupon and give it to him sometime near Thanksgiving. It's a good thankful time of year. Maybe write in your card that you'd pass his kindness forward when you have the chance.
@psychobutthead YH's boss is a stand-up guy. I seriously got tears in my eyes reading that because of how stressful I know it's been for you, and what a kind gesture this is.
I agree with PP about a hand-written thank-you card, and I love the idea of cookies to go with it right now, and you can always send a little something else down the line at Christmas time as well to show you haven't forgotten what a kind thing he did for y'all.
@psychobutthead Wow that is such an amazing story. I'm so happy for you and your husband - what a relief! I think the cookies and a hand-written card would be a really nice touch. Maybe a gift card to a coffee shop or lunch spot you know he goes to every day at work?
@psychobutthead that's amazing! What an incredible boss. I have no idea what to do for him, but I'd be pinteresting all the thank you gifts. I'm so happy for you guys, what a great gift.
