That’s a tough call @msb615. If it turns the slightest you will be right in the path. Plus you might have trouble getting home. It’s going to close a lot of roads to the west of where you will be.
Hmm, $250 per OB admission, in the unlikely event you needed to be admitted for something prior to delivery, that would be an extra charge. I'd go with the PPO myself, HMO's are also kind of a pain especially in an emergency, lots of providers don't contract with them. Honestly, you're really not going to get hosed either way, I don't think, the differences aren't going to be much when you know you're gonna max out that OOP limit regardless.
New random: It's open enrollment at work. Should I consider the plan with no deductible as opposed to the plan with the $1500 deductible? Would that make more sense for my pregnancy? Or is it completely not worth the extra money per month. ($58.43 vs. $185.05) Any advice would be great!
Holy shit! Your deductible is only $1500?! That's pretty awesome! But this all depends on what the out of pocket maximum is and is the plan that has no deductible an HMO? If so, that will seriously limit the providers you can see.
I work for a University and the health plan benefits are unreal. $200 deductible (employee only) and $1500 OOP max! Way better than the whopping bill we got for DD at my last job. Why must everything be so expensive? My in-laws practically had a heart attack when they heard about our general hospital costs here.
Yeah, I have awesome insurance and my low deductible plan is the HMO. And of course, the hospital closest to the school where I work DOESN'T FREAKING CONTRACT WITH OUR HMO, LIKE DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S SOMETHING WE SHOULD HAVE LOOKED INTO?! I'm just bitter anticipating a bill from my ambulance ride a couple weeks ago.
@missy052819 I'm having serious insurance envy right now! I'd recommend the PPO as well. Much easier to get good in-network coverage options. When I was pregnant with DS I was on H's insurance and it was AWESOME and I was so close to my OOP max when they dropped the bomb that spouses couldn't be on their plan anymore if they are able to get insurance through their own employer. I had to switch over to my company's insurance with only 6 weeks of my pregnancy left and start my OOP and deductible all over again. Both were twice the amount the other insurance plan was so we ended up paying over $8K

@eatinwatermelonseeds I miss tricare so so so much. Thankfully I have great insurance through work now but that initial transition from H being active to not was insane.
@bumbly_b I'm not terribly happy with them currently, I switched to USFHP which is like Tricare Prime but I can be see off post for my pregnancy because Tricare select is crap right now. My son is in speech and OT, and last year there were no copays. This year in January, a new company took over and implemented $40 copays without telling anyone. I had no idea. The place we went to for therapy had no idea. So, he went to 4 appointments there every week for about 6 weeks until they got back approval from Tricare for the bill, and we ended up with an almost $1000 bill. It was ridiculous. I'm still paying it off.
I just realized that since this babe is due in May, I’ll probably be having an April baby shower. So I’ll get to do some hokey “April showers bring May flowers” invites. And I’m like stupid into it. Haha
@eatinwatermelonseeds Southern California [palm tree emoji] All the southerners would probably die at the BBQ out here, but I think it's damn delicious
@spaceburger do you ever go to phils?! it's always high on our list when we go on vacation. their beef ribs are lliiiifeeee. I always feel like someone needs to roll me out of there!
@keighty80 That's so damn cute! I would be worried that the baby would come early and nothing would be set up. I was thinking March for mine so I don't end up having panic attacks.
@keighty80 I went to an "April showers bring May babies" shower and it was ADORABLE. They had little rain boots with flowers in them as centerpieces on the tables and decor and then they had little umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. For favors they did gardening gloves and flower seeds. It was seriously the cutest theme ever.

So, my son is in ABA therapy (applied behavioral therapy) and they're running a feeding program. I send a snack he loves and one he won't really eat (typically vegetables) and she uses the good treat as reinforcement for eating the less desired food. He's been doing great with it and eating quite a bit of the veggies I've sent. I sent broccoli today. She sent home this 😂
@eatinwatermelonseeds we left just as they were making the switch. I had the old tricare prime and loved it. We decided against staying with tricare while he was in the guard because of the changes.
I had champus (pre-tricare) as a kid way back in the day. Each change makes the system worse in my opinion. But going from never worry about insurance to trying to figure out how it works was rough lol.
@haboobjob YES, there is one close, and man oh man I stuff myself. There really isn't much BBQ discrimination from me because I love it all as long as it isn't too fatty. Pulled pork FO LYFE @notsoblissylissy Yes! It was a Dickey's. First time going even though I've driven by a million times. Their pickles are perfection.
So insurance won't cover the tools because we have a dwelling policy? Which is what we where given when we signed the papers for our mortgage.
This week is already awful. Ds has been suffering from croup for over a month and all it would have takeb was steroids to clear it up. I even asked his doctor if we could get some weeks ago but she swore it was his allergies and then his reflux causing the cough. Over $100 in co-pays and $100 in meds and all he need was the $4 prescription i asked her for originally.

There’s an order for colored leggings in a FB group I’m in, and the black ones I ordered from her a couple of weeks ago are magical, so I obviously need more.
@eatinwatermelonseeds yeah, solids. I was thinking about burgundy and charcoal. I considered navy too.. 🤔
@k2k2tog I have one patterned pair I got from a cousin when she was selling lula roe. I’ve worn them maybe once. They’re not super wild, but still a little flashy for me 😂
@missy052819 I work in insurance for a living. Here's a breakdown of the plans. I'm assuming you're not considering the HMO and you're comparing the two PPO plans.
It looks like the company offers $750 towards your HRA, which is really nice, but you do have to submit receipts to get the reimbursement back. Which is not crazy, but you will still have to do it (probably). The HRA is offered with the $1500 ded plan, and not the $0 ded plan.
So for the $1500 ded plan, in the best case scenario you will end up paying $1500 + ($58.43x12) - $750 = $1,451.16. Coverage for this plan doesn't kick in until you pay out the deductible, which I'm assuming you will have to because you are due in May. Worse case scenario will be $3000 + (58.43x12) - 750 = $2,951.46. This is all assuming you are enrolling as Employee Only. HOWEVER, since your baby will be born in May and your OE is November 1, your maximums will become the family numbers as soon as you add baby to the plan. I think you can use the simple formulas above to calculate that out. The insurance company will not prorate the maximums for you. So, if your kid needs NICU time (my healthy full term DD unexpectedly needed 2 days in the NICU), you will be paying the maximums for family. Lots of health issues crop up with babies along the way, so even if you avoid the NICU, there will still be many visits to the doctor between May and November. I would also take a look at your DH's plans to see whose is more favorable for adding baby.
For the $0 deductible plan (no HRA), your best case scenario is $185.05x12 = $2,221.44. Worst case = $2,221.44 + $1,500 OOPM = $3,721.44. Again, this is for Employee Only coverage. You can calculate the family totals.
Also, both of these plans are AMAZING, and you're extremely lucky you have such awesome benefits.
Got a note from Daycare today that they have a confirmed case of HFM on the infant hall. Yippee!!! To make it even more fun we are scheduled for tubes and adenoid removal next week. So if he gets sick we have to cancel the procedure.
