Are you having a shower? AW your pics of the decorations, gifts, cute things that happened there. Except if you play that silly chocolate in the diaper game, no one wants to see that lol
We are having a "baby's coming" co-ed party next weekend at my parents in NJ. It's basically just for family, though I did invite one friend who happens to be in the area right now. I'm not sure there will be much decor and we aren't sharing a registry with most guests (just spreading the word that we'd like some cloth diapers), but there will be lots of food and lawn games! Fingers crossed for good weather.
We had a co-ed party last weekend. About 30 people. We treated it like a regular bbq party, so we had a bottle chugging contest (some with beer, others with juice) and played a game called "is it love or labour?". Had a lot of snacks and a lot of laughs. It was nice having my husband there to open gifts with me so that I didn't feel as awkward - definitely happy with the way we did it, although quite untraditional. Some decorations (woodland creatures and plaid) but pretty minimal.
We are having a coed taco theme party on Oct 14. I'm super excited. And it's a display shower so no gift opening! I'll definitely aw some pics afterward!
@morgantu As a general hater-of-baby-showers, I would totally go to your taco party. That's right up my alley. I can't wait to see photos!

My baby shower is November 7. I believe it’s going to be outer space themed because that’s the theme of her room. Other than that, that’s all I know. I’ve requested gifts not be wrapped, because last baby shower I spent more than half of the shower opening gifts and didn’t get to socialize. Andplusalso, I hate opening gifts in front of people. My MIL and best friend are throwing the shower, so I know it’ll be awesome.

I didn’t want a formal baby shower since work is throwing me one so some girlfriends and I will be doing a private paint night before baby comes. One of those wine and paint things in a studio. I’m SO looking forward to it!
I'm having a shower Oct 13th, Rainbow themed because she's a rainbow baby. Excited! Glad I scheduled it a little early because she'll be here just 3 weeks later now!
I have my first baby shower Saturday at my Grandma’s (she’s 81 and insisted she host at her house!) with my side of the family since they live over 2 hours away from us. I’ve requested no stupid games and cupcakes and donuts instead of cake. Other than that I don’t know much ... I didn’t even get an invitation!! Hahaha. Had to have my one friend text me pics. I also have a shower Oct. 6 at my house for hubby’s family and all my friends but literally don’t know anything. Nothing - but I did receive an invite which was really cute with a baby deer I’ll be sure to post lots of pics from both. Meanwhile here’s what the invitations looked like.
We’re doing a sprinkle since this is my second, it’s a diapers and donuts theme! Basically more an excuse to get the whole family together and celebrate the new baby! We’re doing a light lunch and of course donuts and everything is rainbow sprinkles themed because this is my rainbow baby.
Here's my invitation. My sister and mom are throwing it at my house (that my husband and I just bought and moved into) so I'm kind of more excited to just show everyone the new house. My older boys' room is all space themed and so is our nursery.
I said I'd like Costco sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. (MY FAVORITES) I mostly love spoiling everyone else so there will be lots of gifts to win. Diaper raffle prizes.

Mine is this Sunday. I've pushed back on my mom about having one for this whole pregnancy (she + MIL threw our 2016 DD one. Coed, casual bbq-style, totally amazing... but ~70 people) but gave in a couple of weeks ago. I'm actually excited about it now! Ladies only this time, immediate friends & family; shouldn't be more than 12-15.
You can side-eye me: we didn't open gifts last time until most of the people left. My mom, aunts, immediate IL family hung around and I opened em then.
@AdorkablePixie@asun123 Yay for space themes! We're also doing a space theme for the nursery for baby girl. I have two showers actually (never thought that would happen). The first one with friends is co-ed and a good friend is hosting it at our house in early November. With kids and all included, we could have up to 38 people in the house... which I'm worried about. But not everyone will be able to attend most likely. I mean, we could fit it, but it'd be much more comfortable with less than 30. That party will be space themed since everyone will want to go up and see the room!
The second one is the weekend after at my mom's house. It's basically just a big family party since we are most likely missing the family Xmas eve party (due Dec 20 and I'm not going to the party with a baby less than 3 weeks old lol.) Everyone and their significant other and kids are invited and it's a big brunch style shower.
My mom is throwing me a baby shower this Sunday-I’m pretty nervous! I also hate being the center of attention, I just like people to have a nice time we did fall woodland animals for the baby shower, and her room will be a winter woodland/native american feel. So it’s all kind of similar minus the colors
My aunt and sister (even though I think my aunt has taken control of most it) are throwing one for my husband and I October 21st. I honestly have no idea what to expect. I'm also not crazy about being the center of attention, especially when opening gifts in front of a group. I felt so awkward at my bridal shower, even though it was a really small group of people. Hopefully, having my husband there with me will help make it less awkward.
My baby shower is October 20th at a local chocolate shop. Yum! I'm the type of person who has a few close friends versus a ton of less close friends so it'll be pretty small. My husband didn't want it to be co-ed since his co-workers are planning something for him that evening so it'll be just the girls (and any guys who do feel like coming). My sister is planning the shower so I'm not sure what the theme will be or many other details, but I'm excited!
@binxybaby baby shower at a chocolate shop?? Yes please!
I'm not sure what plans are for a shower/ sprinkle. No one ( family)has said anything about a sprinkle so I don't believe I will be having a family one. But our church always does one for the new babies so I assume there will be a church shower. DS is expected to arrive late December so the shower wouldnt be for a while anyway.
I didn't want anything since this is our second (and I hate showers, I feel awkward being the center of attention and opening gifts in front of people), but my girlfriend really wanted to throw a sprinkle for me. I only invited about 10 relatives/friends, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone! It will be October 13th and will be a woodland theme. Can't wait to see pics of everyone's showers!
@clbness samzies! Same feeling, same amount of people, same date, no idea on theme! However, I am starting to get really excited about it!! They pitched it to me like it will be more of a girls day and I love that!!
So I talked to my Mom last night about the shower Saturday at my Grandma’s she’s helping with ... I made the comment - I must be getting a lot of gift cards. As two things have been purcashed off the registry I haven’t got already (DH’s aunts sent stuff to our house). My Mom says, well I know a lot of people are making you things ... aka baby blankets. I know this is gonna sound super terrible but I’m so irritated. The kid can’t even use blankets for the first year of her life and I already have one my husband got from a customer. I NEED diapers and money to go towards a car seat. I’m just stressing out all the things we need to get and when I think of getting blankets from multiple people it angers me. Guess I’m ungrateful.
@countrygirl624 try not to stress too much about it. People often forget to use the registers number and lots of people shop late. I remember stocking my wedding registry because no one bought off it until the last week. And I don’t think you are ungrateful for not wanting a bunch of blankets.... but when you receive them, my guess is you will still appreciate the time, effort and love that was put into them!
Oh yes, @countrygirl624, I meant to tag you earlier. You don't seem ungrateful, I completely understand...I would have felt the same way as a FTM. I do remember receiving a LOT (I mean, an UNGODLY amount ) of blankets and thinking, "WTF am I going to do with all of these things?!" Hopefully you get the help you need on the carseat and diapers.
@countrygirl624 I don’t think you’re ungrateful! It is annoying that you need X…but you’re probably getting Y. That’s a totally valid complaint.

@countrygirl624 With my shower, several people bought gifts the day before and the day of. Maybe that is the case? I remember getting a ton of blankets and wondering what the heck we would do with all them, but we ended up using them to lay on the floor for tummy time, to cover the car seat, and lots of other things.
@countrygirl624 I do hate massive amounts of baby blankets so much. And then you feel guilty when you are ready to get rid of them.. So annoying. I'm more of a minimalist and too many blankets is my pet peeve. Especially since I live in San Diego and its like not cold often. But I also do always think of a baby shower as just a bonus. I never need family and friends to buy things for me/baby but I appreciate it if they do. What would make me extremely happy is if they all just didn't bring anything

@countrygirl624 totally valid complaint. I got SO MANY blankets at my shower for DS, and 2.5 years later at least half of them have never been used. I agree with PP though, a lot of times people forget to say it's for a registry, or they shop late. The last few days before my shower are when I noticed a lot of things being bought.
So this is my second, and I said I'm not having a shower, but the ladies at work insisted on it. I need nothing...so I asked for NB size diapers (we'll cloth once he's big enough), wipes, and gift cards for Amazon/Target...I'm really just looking forward to cake or cupcakes or whatever they do and some time to not do anything at work since it'll be during work hours lol. ETA it's not until October 23rd. I do know at least one girl who will buy some clothes or little extras, she's got like 7 nieces or something and is super excited I'm having a boy, she's tired of girl stuff lol
- blankets, I guess I have to look forward to those! A coworker of mine was pissed off and telling me that she received about 13 blankets at her baby shower!! I thought It was hilarious, until you ladies have confirmed this happens ALOT! Sheeeesh...ugh - our coed baby shower is Oct 6th!! I'm nervous and excited because I hate being the center of attention, just like it was weird for my bridal shower lol but I'm excited that hubby and SIL are planning this. I planned my bridal shower, I just believe in if u want something done right, you gotta do it yourself. Well, hubby didnt want me stressing for the baby so he excitedly said he'd plan with SIl, my aunt, and mom. I'm nervous to see what they came up with. Its "a whole new world" Aladdin theme mostly focusing on Jasmine, since our baby girl's name will be Jasmine "jazz". -ive been stalking our registries and nope, pol haven't bought a thing! My family literally call me and ask me what I want and I refer them to the registry and they laugh and repeat the question. Grrrrrrr.. oh well, just happy to see everyone and celebrate
@countrygirl624 I totally get your complaint on the blankets - I remember getting a ton at my shower. My kids still receive tons of blankets now at the ages of 9 and 6. But we all love blankets and these are big enough to actually get use, so I don’t mind them. I do agree though that people tend to buy last minute or not scan the registry. The weekend of is when I saw most things start to be marked off, hopefully it’s the same in your case.
I love all of these themes and so many showers are coming up! Even though this is #4, we have not saved anything with the large age gap, because this baby is a result of random baby fever when my twins went to Kindergarten. My sister, mom and mother in law are throwing a sprinkle for me on Oct 21. My sister wants everything to be a surprise, so that’s all I know right now.
I assume my work may do something super small. I don't need anything really, just diapers or whatever. I just want the food And +1 to so many blankets. And we had such ugllyyyyy blankets. Most of them are sitting in a tote in our dry storage.
@snugglyduckling25 I love big adult blankets!! Lol - it’s just the silly little baby blankets she won’t use for a year. My boss informed me she got something off the registry but didn’t mark it because she didn’t want me to know. Lol. I’m like I can’t tell who got me what. So maybe a lot of other people did the same!! I’ll let you all know how tomorrrow goes, I am excited to see everyone!
@binxybaby A baby shower in a chocolate shop sounds AMAZING!!! I love chocolate.
Tons of blankets are annoying, I agree. I think I got like 4-5 at our shower. My cousin made a gorgeous blanket, DH's aunt made a blanket (which he uses in the winter because it's a heavier blanket), and DH's brother made him an Avenger's tie blanket. The other were just store bought blankets. One is brand new and never used, so we may end up regifting it at some point. lol

@countrygirl624 oh geez, sorry but that's not right of your boss. Not only can you not see, but neither can other people!! When people don't mark the registry there's the risk of getting 2 or 3 of the same thing. Hell, my diaper bag was marked as purchased 1/1 and my aunt still ended up buying even after someone else did! Hope you had a fun shower!! Can't wait to see any pics you got!
Happy to report that I did not receive one blanket at my shower yesterday
ETA a few photos.
My mom made this! Totally thought she bought it. I told her to start selling them.
"To Be Sorted" and "Future Gryffindor" onesies made by one of my N16 mamas! Her son is one day older than DD and yesterdy was the first time they'd met. So much fun!
My "baby's coming" party went fine yesterday. I was cornered into opening gifts in front of everyone at the end, which I really wanted to avoid. That was part of the reason we did not call it a shower or distribute a registry. Oh well, at least my husband was there to share the spotlight and help open. We had lawn games and lots of food. It was relaxing and the drive home wasn't TOO bad. We ended up with more stuff than I expected but I somehow managed to get most of it in from the car and put away this morning. And we only wound up with three baby blankets so I'll count that as a win!
I will try to post some pics of stuff I got tonight when I get home. First shower was small and sweet with my family. I teared up a few times opening gifts. My Mom got me SO many outfits all different sizes - wow. Everything was adorable! Hubby got a “Daddy” gift from my Grandma which was a kick ass pair of binoculars. He was stoked and even stayed around to watch me open gifts which was nice so he got to see what all we got. Not that he probably cared very much - he was there for the food! Haha.
I got 2 baby blankets and a comforter/quilt for when she’s older with matching smaller blanket for her to carry around and a crinkly toy thing that were all handmade by my SIL and matched. They’re beautiful - can’t wait for you all to see it! One baby blanket my grandma bought and was white and she also got me a TON of other stuff including the Owlet Sock so it was fine. The other blanket my weirdo Aunt made and is in different shades of blue and scary. DH and I decided the dog will love it!
@hoosiermama-2 Love the pics! That elephant diaper cake is adorable!! @kadeephd Glad you had fun and the your H was there to help with presents! Sorry you didn't get to save the gift opening for later, though. @countrygirl624 It sounds like you received some really beautiful things! Can't wait to see some pics! Glad you all enjoyed your showers!
AFM, my shower is on the 21st, so just under 3 weeks to go! We're doing a brunch buffet at a local restaurant, and we're sitting in their atrium which is so pretty! It's got a coy pond and tons of plants. I've told myself I will NOT look at my registries until after the shower - we'll see how long I hold out! I keep telling myself I want to be surprised in-the-moment, but my curiosity my win out!
