I forget who is having the Harry Potter themed nursery but I know we have some fans here ( @rooonilwaazlib ? @wolfmum ?) I just saw that Pottery Barn has an entire Harry Potter line. It's obviously not cheap but I am absolutely swooning over the Buckbeak rocker and Hedwig beanbag
My wife and I have conceived a babe with my body and frozen donor sperm through IUI, with medication support (clomid, ovidrel, and injections of progesterone) IUI #1, #2, and #3: Dec 2017, Jan 2018, and Feb 2018 - all BFN HSG Test: April 2018 - all clear! IUI #4: April 15/16, 2018 - BFP!! EDD: Jan 7, 2019
I also ordered this plaque from PBK a few weeks ago and am just waiting on it to come in. We painted the room a light blue and have the white IKEA Hemnes dresser for him.
We are moving our glider from ds1 room to the new nursery and then were almost all set!
@mrsmang our best guess is that they wanted to paint the floors b/c they wanted them darker and half way in they realized, uh you can't paint hardwood so they quit and covered it with carpet.
Bye bye gross plaster popcorn ceiling! We need to paint and then gloss the floors but that's waiting until after we have an electrician come in and add an AC outlet.
@ladystout08 Talk to me about those ceilings! They look awesome! We have gross popcorn ceilings throughout our condo but they're especially terrible in the nursery - they've been patched a billion times and are basically sagging with a crack going through half the ceiling.
We ordered our crib this weekend too. I don't really want it in the house this early, but West Elm was having a 20% off sale and then you get an additional 20% cash back if you opened up a credit card so it was too good a deal to pass on!. The crib, toddler conversion kit, and mattress all together were $650 including taxes and shipping and the cash back should cover the sheets! Not many cribs really fit my design aesthetic so I as really happy to find this one!
@kaftg2 ours are the same way and they said it would be a nightmare (and an extra $500-600) to rip down all the plaster. They patched it and evened it out and then put the tiles up. You can sort of tell where the plaster is uneven but it looks SO much better.
We haven't gotten any of the important stuff yet (like furniture), but did pick up 3 pieces of art for our adventure themed-nursery at a convention this weekend from the artist Karen Hallion (bonus: we got her to sign all of them as well for baby girl). Here are Anne of Green Gables, Ahsoka, and Moana:
Gah feeling so behind in the planning! Everyone has such beautiful starts to their nurseries and I'm over here with zero ideas. Well... as of 10 minutes ago, one idea.
We rent so painting is out, unless we want to pick from their color palette of like 5 ugly choices and pay for them to do it. And I want to stay pretty neutral anyway, nothing overly pink/girly because that's just not my style. (And I don't want baby girl to feel like she has to live/breathe pink.) So thinking that I'm going to get creative with textures, and a ceiling tapestry type thing is my latest fixation.
Drawing some inspiration from the below picture - thanks Buzzfeed - but thinking it would be billowed on the ceiling with smaller twinkle lights behind it. It'll function as a warm nightlight, look like a starry sky, and add some texture/potentially color (if I can decided on anything but white) and not be a huge pain to repaint/repair when we eventually move.
It's taking everything in me to not just say eff it and go with everything from the new HP line at Pottery Barn lol. Soooo tempting
@Kabazaba I'm not sure whether to thank or curse you. I showed DH the artists work and he likes it much better and wants to change from our Disney watercolor theme to a more print/movie poster type theme. So we're back to shopping. Lol.
@kns1988 Thank you! We have an old 1940 Cape Cod and I'm so glad the original floors are still there and in good shape.
AFM: DS now wants his room like LG's room so we're discussing moving him in there for a week or so after it's done so we can rip his carpet out and re-do the ceiling. I feel like we're bleeding money but we may as well do it now while we have the spare room and it'll help resale anyway.
@Kabazaba We snagged a crib during the TRU going out of business sale we're good there. I think we're going with this one as our inspiration piece and decorating around it.
Finally some progress! Got the crib assembled (Oeuf Sparrow in "Walnut") and curtains hung; the swing chair is in the process of being hung up (swingasan from Pier 1); the start of our Montessori activity center has the mirror and pull up bar done and the hooks in the ceiling for the mobiles; dresser/changing table is assembled (Ikea Hemnes) with the utility rolling cart to store diapers/wipes/ointment etc. (also Ikea). still waiting for the rug pad to be delivered so we can put the rug down to cozy up the space and then it's time for "fun stuff" decor like art, floor pillows, etc yay!
@kaf1788 Thank you! I will give my DH the compliment since he did all the work while I sat on the floor pointing and directing lol. I'm in the early stages of research and our nursery won't be 100% Montessori but I do want to incorporate a lot of the elements. For the activity center, I need to put a mat down for the baby to lay on and in the early weeks/months the mirror is so the baby can observe itself and it's facial expressions and you hang different mobiles over it that correspond to the different stages of development (you can find sets on amazon and etsy). Then you move on to hang more tactile mobiles for the baby to kick and pull (so make sure the hook in the ceiling is sufficiently anchored). Once the baby is a bit older and exploring movement, the pull up bar is to help them do that in a more "freestyle" way rather than a jumper/walker and again having it in front of the mirror is for them to watch their movements and explore their body.
Well, what would have been the nursery is done. DS moved in there last night and after some discussion, we decided to let him stay in there. We ordered him a new bed and his old room will be a nursery/spare room combo since it's bigger. Time to rip out the carpet in the other room!
I am in a 2 bedroom apartment right now, so we can't paint or do anything too crazy. Upon finding out we're having a boy, I've decided to go with a sort of night-sky theme with moons and stars and spaceships and stuff. (Right now I'm still just cleaning and re-organizing the room, so it's not very nursery-y yet).
But I did go ahead and order this cute blanket set that I saw the other day! And while I haven't bought this mobile, I definitely have it in mind as well.
I found a blanket and some prints I’m thinking of for our travel theme! I was having the worst time finding a whole bedding set, so I’m happy to just find the blanket I love, and I’ll just mix it with solid sheets and bed skirt.
@sarahsaurus-2 I'm going for a space theme too. The mobile has been the hardest for me. I picked one very similar to yours but it also has some orange in it.
@galactickates is this the same friend that painted your nursery? She's amazing if so, and if not you have several talented friends!! What is the name of the Etsy shop?
