Re: Weekly randoms thread 9/3

  • I made homemade mac and cheese tonight cause I've been craving it so badly,  even though I'm out of tofu to add an extra protein boost... well, just ate a big plateful (which was delicious) and now feel like I'm going to puke.

Sigh.  There's no pleasing this little gummy bear.

  • Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm feeling a bit blue. Open enrollment started at work so I was able to sign up for STD to help with maternity leave since no one knows that I'm currently pregnant yet. I'm very, very thankful that this happened the way that it did because now DH and I will have some paid time off and not have to scramble as we thought we would. BUT, because the actual calendar of coverage doesn't start until Oct 1, unfortunately I had to cancel my first prenatal appointment and push it back to after Oct1 (So that pregnancy isn't considered a pre-existing condition and I become disqualified). I'm so disappointed that I won't have my first appointment until 11.5 weeks now, but logically I know it's helpful for DH and I financially and in order to take some decent time off with baby when it arrives. But again, So Freaking Sad, I just really wanted to hear that heartbeat next week  :'(
  • I’m just going to brag a tiny bit because I’m really lucky. I’m really nauseated today (not the lucky part). My husband went out to get me Thai food, then when I couldn’t stomach it, he just went back out to get me ice cream. ❤️
  • @ashley_mb you’re lucky to be able to do that! I think with my STD I could sign up but if a baby comes out of me less than 9 months later, I’m automatically disqualified. I already learned that I screwed my self out of about $7k because of my poor planning/decisions.

  • Ok just found out a  girl from my DDs kindergarten class came home sick today (headache, stomach ache, fever, and sore throat)!!! And I guess it’s already spread throughout the entire district. It’s too early for this to start!! I’m not prepared for sick children,I can barely handle my sick pregnant self lol. Just needed to vent, guess I’ll be sanitizing the house tomorrow
  • @ashley_mb I’d def read the fine print for something like @lovelybabybumpz’s scenario. And then if STD really is in the cards (awesome!) then consider hitting up a private ultrasound clinic for $150 out of pocket or whatever, if you really want that heartbeat and reassurance!
  • This morning:
    3yo: “there’s aliens on mars!”
me: “not that we know of”
3yo: “yeah, there’s aliens we don’t know of on mars!”
  • I locked my keys in my car this morning. In the ignition even. This is what happens when I try to do things before coffee.

  • Is anyone else dreading being pregnant for almost the next year of your life? I'm only 8 weeks along and I am already annoyed at how long this is going to take.
  • @jroisback Yes, especially since I'm used to doing whatever I want physically. Now suddenly I have to be cautious? I climbed the tall ladder and was up on my shed roof picking grapes today and realized my doctor probably wouldn't approve ;) Can't imagine once everyone knows, they'll all be trying to help me do basic tasks for nearly a year, uck.

Just remember all, elephants gestate for 22 months!

  • @jroisback 3rd tri feels like a year all on it's own.

You get to essentially "skip" the 1st 4 weeks of 1st tri so it feels like it's awful but actually pretty fast. But you feel just as shitty, hungry and tired but while lugging around a 15+lb beach ball strapped to your front for the 3rd. Plus the anticipation of being so close to meeting them drags it out so freaking long.

  • @jroisback yes. Pregnancy and the first three months after baby is born feel like an eternity.
  • @jroisback I’m over here at 10+4 celebrating that I’m a quarter done!

@sheepshepherdess, I had an interesting conversation with a friend after my first prenatal checkup, when my nurse said they don't want me lifting more than 40 pounds or more than 10 pounds over my head.  My first thought was, "I've been Crossfitting for 7 years, I'm not going to stop just because I'm pregnant." (Obviously I will modify as needed and I've been feeling so crummy so far not much weightlifting has happened anyway, but I worked out all through my last pregnancy and felt it helped me recover after.)  My second thought was what have women done for thousands of years when they've been pregnant?  They can't stop lifting their other children or working in rice fields or toting water miles every day just because they have a baby in there!

I realize it's because the medical profession doesn't want anything to happen that they could then be sued for, but I absolutely hate being treated like a china doll.  I'll listen to my body and won't take stupid risks, but I'm still going to do what is healthy for me, both mentally and physically.

  • @jroisback Not really. I’ve been trying to have a baby for over two years now, though, so honestly I’m just grateful to be here. I’m scared something will go wrong, and in that sense I’ll be overjoyed if and when I get to the end of the 9 months.
  • @kangstadt my doctor told me to I was fine continuing bootcamp(very similar to CrossFit). Just modify, let my trainers know, and don’t over exert myself. For instance when I was pushing sleds this week I had to stop and do wall sits because I started to feel light headed and my asthma was acting up. I’m also doing weights I’m comfortable with so I’m not straining. 30lbs (used to be 45) dumbbell squats and 70lb(used to be 88) kettleball deadlifts. I figure I’ll lower my weights as pregnancy progresses
  • @blueberrymomma I’m tired just reading your workout. Lol.

  • @lovelybabybumpz @lyse01 I didn't think this was even a possibility for me, and my company's HR rep told me to call the carrier themselves. I explained the situation to the STD rep. and she reassured me that as long as I do not have a pregnancy diagnosis (as pregnancy is a pre-exisiting condition) already, and the diagnosis and time off fall in the "coverage period" that I qualify for 6 weeks. This stuff is crazy, maybe I'm naive but I didn't realize This level of planning went into extending your family! I think I'll call again Monday and get a second confirmation because I can't image the level of SUCK that would come from misunderstanding and missing out on first appointment because of this.... Although, I'm super curious about your recommendation of a private clinic and seeing what they can offer!!! Thanks so much for the advice/recommendations!
  • @wearegroot,, that's great, haha.

  • @wearegroot haha. I am your husband. Yesterday I organized all the kitchen cabinets in a flurry. But unloading the dishwasher was almost insurmountable.
