Anyone else not finding the energy to keep up with daily housework?
I was away all weekend and my DH worked overtime plus came down with the flu... so while I understand he didn't feel good, I came home to a house that looked exactly as it did when I left. Dishes not done, laundry in piles, toys strewn around.
I'm sitting in bed procrastinating because I really don't want to have to fix our broken washer myself, do five loads of laundry (if its just a clogged drain), clean the kitchen, wash dishes, put away toys that my 4yo will just get back out again, put out recycling that DH forgot about...
Yes. I hear you. Last week I caved and hired a cleaning service, but just the cleaning prep and organization for the service nearly did me in. Go easy on yourself!
@kangstadt ughhh that sounds like a kind of miserable day. I've been slacking on housework too. Each morning this long weekend from about 9:30 -12"30 I was basically confined to the couch. I'm so sick and exhausted and my house is really showing it.
I've caught DS's first daycare cold and the post-nasal drip is making my MS even worse today. I'm not-so-secretly hoping that my boss comes in, sees that I'm sick and tells me to WFH the rest of the day.
I showed up to work this morning and the other two ELA teachers in my grade level both have colds. I'm trying to keep my distance, but I don't think this is going to go well for me...
@kangstadt I struggle with housework even when I’m not pregnant, so now the struggle is exponentially more real! We’ll see how DH does while I’m gone for a week, but my guess is that he will have done excessive cleaning like washing the carpets, but not the basics like emptying the dishwasher.
I’m currently settling in with DS for a 10 hr train ride, and we’ve already exiled someone to the quiet car, which I was a little offended about because he’s not even that bad (yet), but it’s they’re loss because he’s very entertaining!
does anyone know how to actually use the reply function on mobile bump? I try it every once in a while and nothing happens. I do not investigate further and just chalk it up to “the bump sucks.” It would be nice to reply to someone’s thread in a normal way instead of chanting their user name over and over i my head so that by the time I get to the end of a post I can reply to it
We are filming a promotional video at work and I’m trying to wear the same outfit for continuity as I did months ago. Even without the current occupancy of my uterus, I’m up a few pounds and feeling like 10 pounds of sausage in a 5 pound case.
@lovelybabybumpz I don’t even attempt to use the app. It’s a nightmare. I just pull it up in mobile browser, much much easier.
DD and I caught a cold that must be going around and I feel like death. I’m with you @MRDCle I cannot breath at all! The post nasal drip is out of this world and it is making me so much more nauseous. I think I might have gotten 4 hours of sleep, part of which was in our living room chair that does not recline. Ugh. If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s a double payroll week and an owner is leaving for Europe tomorrow I would totally not go in. DD seems to have the worst of it behind her and has gone back to operating at 200mph. So. Very. Very. Tired.

@BarefootContessa, I would definitely consider a cleaning service if we could afford one, although I feel like I'd clean for them coming in also just because I would feel embarrassed, haha.
@MRDCle, fingers crossed for you that your boss sends you home! I'm just praying I don't catch DH's flu... on top of my nausea already, not sure I'd be able to keep anything down.
@wearegroot, ugh, why do men do that? My DH will find a project and suddenly get obsessed with it when all I want is for an extra hand doing the laundry, not fixing a window or mowing the grass. Good luck with the train ride!
@lovelybabybumpz , right there with you on feeling bloated and blah. I've been avoiding all pants and shorts with buttons already.
@thatbaintforbetty, so sorry to hear that! I hope you get a chance to relax or catch up on sleep tonight.
Ugh, I am so with all of you on the housework! My house, which I am usually obsessed with keeping neat and clean, is not nearly up to my standards and is making me so anxious!
@BarefootContessa that is exactly my reluctance in hiring a cleaning service - to me, the hardest part is picking everything up, which you have to do anyway.
In other random news, H just went out to run an errand and came back with a loaf of Italian bread because I was looking green this morning and I am a crazy bread eating fiend. Sometimes that guy really just gets me
I am obsessed with cleaning lately! I figure I’m just nesting super early. I visited a friend for a few days who keeps her house immaculate and I came home with major motivation and it just stuck!
@mels823 please share your motivation with the rest of us. I seem to have zero motivation to do anything lately...work, cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking. No thanks. I literally just want to be a professional couch potato.
@BarefootContessa we also have someone who comes and cleans our home every other week (I do basic cleaning in between) but I'm really debating hiring her for a weekly clean. I don't have it in me.
@gollygeeitsamy, if only that position paid money, I'd be set.
I'm seriously struggling today to even cook food for my 4yo to eat. I think I may be catching DH's dang illness. I didn't feel this awful all weekend, unless it's partly from paralyzing lack of motivation since there's so much to do and it's overwhelming.
We also desparately need groceries and I haven't gone yet. It's so gross and humid outside, I don't want to leave the house.
Just discovered that the air conditioner in our apartment is leaking. Hello wet floors and more things I didn’t need to deal with today. DH had to turn it off and it’s going to be super hot when I get home.

I can’t remember who all to reply to. But add me to the count of sick people. I think my son and I are both coming down with some sort of cold. I just feel gross. Plus today was a teaching day and I’m freaking exhausted. Bleh.
Also, my house has been a total disaster. Finally this long weekend my husband and I tag team cleaned it. He even scrubbed the floor in our master bath. The house is the cleanest it’s been in months. Although, that’s not saying much.
I hope all you ladies who are feeling under the weather, bounce back quickly! It's the worst being sick and pregnant.
I'm finally allowing my to daydream a bit about this baby. I wandered off to the July18 board and read birth stories and got a little teary-eyed. I have also been perusing all of this new baby gear on sites. I can't believe how many things change on the "must haves" list in just a few short years! My youngest is three, and I feel a little out of the loop with dock a tots, baby shushers, etc.
@kangstadt the only reason we have groceries is because of SHIPT lol. I went to the grocery store once last week to get a few snacks for the cabin and all the smells made me sick.
Today I had my intake appt with the nurse practitioner. It took almost 2 hours!! I swear everyone was moving and talking in slow motion. First we had to go over all the same info from my other pregnancies, and then they sent me to the lab for bloodwork. There was literally one other person getting bloodwork and it still took 45 min! For the first time ever I felt faint from a blood draw, they did take 6 vials, so that was fun. On the bright side the nurse 100% agree it was best to go back on my Lexapro since my anxiety has been so bad.
Hcg question for you ladies... I had my quants done again today. I guess it’s the only way I thought I’d have peace of mind until my first ultrasound. I know numbers are so different for every pregnancy.... is the idea that as long as they’re going up significantly, they’re good? My OB wasn’t in today, so I got a receptionist to call me back and she didn’t give me much. I had them tested on the 22nd they were 25.8, 25th they were 159.9, 10 days later they’re around 950 (don’t remember the exact number). I noticed I wasn’t quite in the range for 6 weeks and I think I’m 6w1d.
So the train ride ended up being 11 hours and DS didn’t do too badly except for crying every time I tried to get him to take a nap (he only took one 1 hour nap compared to the two 90m-2hr naps he usually takes). And then 40 minutes before we got to our stop, he fell and gashed his head and started bleeding everywhere. So that was fun! He was fine and had stopped crying by the time we got to the cafe car and the first aid kit, and didn’t even wince when I wiped it with an alcohol wipe, but it was a gory scene. It’s been a long day. I’m going to pass out now.
my house looks like a bomb went off and i'm feeling way too ill and unmotivated to try to fix it. We are running out of clean clothes to wear and the lazy part of me wants to just go buy new underwear for the whole family and say f the laundry.
My husband is on a crazy deadline at work so I'm barely getting any kind of break in the evenings. He's around just long enough to tell DS to eat his dinner before he goes back to work. Its not that i'm blaming him for it, someone has to make the money around here, but the lack of help couldn't have come at a worse time.
@laumarkim numbers vary drastically for pregnancies, as long as they double in 48-72 hours you are doing just fine.
I am with everyone on the messy house front. We potty trained DD this weekend so that coupled with laziness equals the disaster that I walk into after work. Plus, I don't know if it's a sickness or 9 weeks of feeling halfway decent has finally caught up to me, but I have had a pounding headache since yesterday and it isn't going away. Looks like naps for this tired mama when I get home instead of cleaning.
Pretty bummed. We were scheduled for a 5 day trip to DC next weekend but I have not been feeling well at all. I just hit 7 weeks and I know it can only get worse for the next 2 or so weeks so I think we will need to cancel our trip! sadness.

@kosmo86 that really stinks is there anything that helps you feel better enough that you'll be able to get some enjoyment out of the trip? It's hard when you've been planning something for awhile and have to cancel for not feeling well. Especially if you don't know for sure how you'll be doing those 5 days.

@kosmo86 don’t cancel!! Just reframe how you think of the trip. When I was pregnant with my first we went on a 3 week road trip from Vegas to Zion to Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole. We planned tons of hiking and camping. But midway through the morning sickness hit me HARD. So, we booked some last minute hotel rooms, picked short 1 mile “hikes,” which we took at a stroll, and drove around doing wildlife photography. We’d hang in the hotel room and eat take out while watching tV, then go to bed early. I still have such fond memories of that last road trip before we became a family of 3. You might have to take your trip a lot easier and do different stuff, but you can still do it!! When I was pregnant in DC I spent a lot of time in the planetarium watching the space movies. There’s also a gorgeous botanical garden on the mall that’s a perfect place to sit and read a book. Founding Farmers has amazing brunch. Just find ways to take it easy and make it a relaxing trip! ❤️
@professormama We might just move it a few weeks out to the end of october or November. If it was just DH and I, it would be better but we have a 2 yo DD who only wants to be held by mommy and refuses just to sit and relax so I would be constantly on the move.

If you can move your trip, go for it. But just don’t cancel!! We did DC with my son (3) back in March. It was harder (I wasn’t pregnant, but was working so my husband was mostly on his own with our kid), but we still had a great time. The Smithsonian natural history museum has a great children’s room where they can touch and play with items. It’s contained and you can sit and relax while they play. Plus much less overwhelming than the whole museum. Botanical garden is still great with a kid, lots to see. Air and Space is also a great kid museum, lots of benches for sitting and hands on stuff for kids. My 3yo loved the planetarium movie, he was totally glued to it. We also had fun having breakfast at Eastern Market- there’s a hall area where kids can just run in circles and you can sit and eat (assuming it’s not blocked for an event, wasn’t while we were there). We loved District Donuts. You could also have your husband take her to the National zoo while you stay back and relax. No kid will cry for mommy when they’re at the zoo!
Random question. FTM here. I’m about 9 weeks and in about the last three weeks lve lost 25+ lbs. I’m not overweight, but I had the weight to lose. I haven’t weighed this little in probably about a year. Is this normal? I thought I was supposed to gain weight?? Especially since all my pants are getting tighter and tighter!
@b9315 I lost 15lbs in my first tri last time because I threw up at least 3 times a day and eating any kind of real meal was not happening. It was getting to the point my doctor was ready to admit me to the hospital. The whole "eating for two" thing is not true, you only need to add an extra 300 calories a day and I don't even think that's right away so really you don't "have to" gain weight until much further into your pregnancy. 25lbs seems like a lot to lose to me, but I'm not a doctor of course! I would definitely bring it up at your next appointment so you can make sure everything is ok and it's not something else going on.

@baya5 I love DC! It's my favorite big city in the US, by far. I'm really lucky that I get to go there semi-frequently for work. I highly recommend going, if you ever get the chance.
You guys. I stoped by HR to find out information about FMLA, and the HR lady (who was very condescending) just sent me an email with all the documents and COPIED MY CHAIR. I haven't decided if I want to take FMLA, it's a huge financial burden since it's not only unpaid leave, but puts me on the hook for paying my full insurance costs (around 1k a month). So, I just had to have a conversation with my chair about that, which I was really not ready to do since I haven't made any decisions. Luckily, I had already told him I was pregnant, otherwise she would have outed me! I'm so mad. HR is supposed to know when shit is freaking legally confidential.
the nausea comes and goes in waves; I puked three times yesterday. Once was me waking up out of a dead sleep
I also have been pulling my hair out trying to move a vacation I booked for March, as I'll be 33 weeks pregnant by then, but the company we bought through is a total nightmare and their customer service is beyond crap. It's looking more and more like we'll just be going while I'm super pregnant, because I can't cancel and get a refund, and they're telling me now I can't rebook for a different time.
Oy.
@b9315 25lbs is a LOT to lose in three weeks- I would absolutely call your doctor if you keep losing weight like that, it's not normal. I don't say that to scare you, but you shouldn't be losing that much weight that quickly.
@b9315 lifestyle changes when you get pregnant (cutting out alcohol, trying to eat healthier, exercising more) can all turn into weight loss, and morning sickness on top of that can cause even more weight loss, but @sheknows6 is right that 25+ lbs in 3 weeks is very fast.
