@PensiveCrayon, I'm there with you on the mom type I think.
Partial-crunchy, half-exhausted, too-much-cell-phone, partial free-range but helicopter at times. Always freaking worried! Exercise Mom sometimes (was doing bootcamp, zumba, walks pre-preg). I hope I'm not whiny mom, but it's possible a smidge.
My son is 6.5yrs old
Nail: Finally got his new bed together yesterday, he was so excited when he got home from school!
Fail: The bed had been sitting in boxes since it's arrival a month ago already... but I feel it's more DH fail than mine because I couldn't lift any of it alone safely.
Question: Boobs- have yours changed much? I had some hardness/soreness in first Tri when I slept on my back, but nothing since. Don't feel like they've changed in size much except for the nipple. Wondering if it's because I'm a STM & the pathways are already created, if the changes are yet to come, or worrying if I won't get milk this time. I remember having really sore, sometimes hard boobs a lot last time, but I don't remember where in the pregnancy timeline I was then.
@mommythlegend I made a post about boobs, look for the (.)(.) - because apparently I'm 12, sorry. Anyway, it seems like people are all over the place. Mine our out of control, seriously. Some people are more like what you've said. I think it's all probably fine, just like our bellies are all different, so are our boobies.
@mommythlegend As a FTM my boobs didn't change much and I didn't produce much; seems to be following the same pattern this go around.... If you successfully BFd before, I'd be less concerned!
@CecilB93 I had a hard time choosing, too. I feel like I have different aspects of several, depending on the situation. @mommythlegend It could be scaitica. I have been having scaitic pain, too. I have gone from a “flatter” 36DDD to a much fuller 38DDD. It’s so odd because my cup size hasn’t changed, but they are heavier. I have also had some discharge from both.
I wish the app made it easier to respond to peoples’ posts (or that I knew how to use it better). I completely agree about not fitting into a category (how can career Mom be a category?). I’m one of many zen-perfect-too much phone-some career (without too much superiority about it)- and now, exhausted.
Nails - wish i could think of any. 3 year old started nursery school today and I had to make her lunch, which I’ve been dreading. Gotta say, it’s pretty Pinterest-worthy, but I feel crushed under the weight of having to do it every day from now until forever.
Fails - took her for frozen yogurt afte school shopping on Saturday. While I was talking to the woman at the counter about buying a cake (for myself, for my birthday), daughter takes a cake out of the freezer and drops it onto floor. I ran over and asked why she did that and she proceeds to talk to me like a Minion. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so angry or frustrated. Also, I am absolutely huge. I shouldn’t have done it but google image searched 27 week bellies the other day. Every one that looked like mine was of a woman pregnant with twins.
@mommythlegend I was a B cup, pre-DD. Stayed the same during pregnancy and after. Right now, my bands are a little tighter and my cups a little fuller.. but I don't expect much else other than the future in-between-pumps fullness. I'd always hoped that I'd gain another cup when I had kids. With DD, I was worried I wasn't going to produce well because of the lack of boobie changes but it def wasn't the case! I nursed til... 17/18 months (only once a day toward the end), and donated ~500 oz of BM when she was about 9 months old.
@nawmin That would make me so frustrated about the cake! Try not to compare your belly to others. We all carry differently and that is okay! @hoosiermama-2 That is awesome that you were able to donate so much.
@Jens_Hoes Thank you for the suggestions! I try to tell him it hurts our feelings when he hits or bites and it also hurts. I also ask if he'd like for someone to do that to him. I'm not sure he cares at this point. I may also keep something on hand that he can hit/bite.. that's great!
@CecilB93 Aww. I hope something works soon. Maybe make the cake and tell him it's all for him if he poops on the potty!
@westcoastfoodie Parenting is definitely hard. I agree with your decision to have him assessed. Because of an injury, my son has been in therapy since he was little. I think it has really helped him a lot.
@temmetime I am just waiting on a call or message from DS's daycare saying he's hit or bit someone. Ugh
@mommythlegend At first my boobs weren't even sore, then they got sore. They didn't really get bigger in the beginning like they did with DS so I didn't think they would, but I think within the last month or so they've definitely gotten bigger, so maybe it's just taking longer this go round.
@nawmin Oh no! Did they make you pay for the cake too?

@nawmin sorry you had a rough day. Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm in the giant belly club myself and get asked all the time if I'm having twins. At 24 weeks, there are women barely showing and I am definitely not in that category! I like to say my uterus is just super excited to be pregnant. This is baby number 4 for me, and my belly seems to get bigger every time. But trust me, it really is temporary and doesn't mean you're any better or worse off than other moms:)!
@nawmin Don't beat yourself up! Women carry so differently, even between pregnancies. With my last 2 pregnancies I wasn't good at taking weekly pictures, but it just so happened that I had an ~18 week picture of all 3. I was biggest this time and smallest with my second pregnancy, which was twins. So, I found that pretty interesting, I'm not sure where they were hiding!
Sorry if this has been asked before - are any of y'all taking classes?
We did a lot last time and I loved it, as a FTM with 0 baby experience. I feel like I'm good this time around and DH would probably cry if I told him we were taking classes......... but I'm an information overload type. Maybe doing a hospital tour will fulfill my itch. We're delivering at the same place, but things change, right?!
@hoosiermama-2 I'm taking a pregnancy/birth class led by my doulas. It's all review, but it's reminding me of stuff I've forgotten, like how crappy labor is (really, how is it possible to forget? so odd) and allllll of the fun stuff that comes with postpartum, like night sweats, engorged boobs, plugged ducts, HORMONES. Etc. I'm also an info overload-type person, but I don't feel like I need instruction on how to take care of a newborn or breastfeed.

@hoosiermama-2 We are not, but I’m rereading my notes and books from last time. I just don’t know that it’s worth getting a sitter for, but if it will help you feel prepared, go for it!
@hoosiermama-2 I keep meaning to sign us both up for a CPR class, otherwise not planning any actually baby/parenting classes this time. We will do another hospital tour even though it's the same hospital we delivered last time, I figure it may be good for DS to see the hospital beforehand and understand it's not a bad/scary place.
@hoosiermama-2 We took classes last time and I'm thinking about taking some of them again. It's only been 2 years, but I feel like everything I knew went out the window!
Nails: I’m making healthier meals at home rather than spending too much on take out. I’m really trying to reign in the spending to save for maternity leave and daycare for two when I return to work in March.
Another nail... I’ve been working out and feeling so energetic! I have been going to prenatal water fitness twice a week and prenatal yoga once a week.
Fails: not mine, but... I have been subjected to offensive sexist comments at work two days in a row. It’s so irritating. A parent came into school today (where I’m the principal) to ask my male assistant principal if he was “the big man in charge” and I was nearby and said I was “the big man in charge”... I know it wasn’t fully professional but I hate shit like that! And then the other day a male coworker in a higher position than me referred to maternity leave as if it were a vacation. Um, no, I’ve never worked harder than when I was on maternity leave. It’s super hard work! Ugh.
@CecilB93 I wish my hospital allowed kiddos on hospital tours. They have a big sibling class that includes a tour, but they have to be 4 @erinka Good for you for working out! I need to get back into it. Those comments are ridiculous. Maternity leave is no vacation!
I was about to pay for the cake but they didn’t make me. I left a tip instead. Then I unceremoniously carried her to the car where she tantrumed for a few minutes.
I know not to to worry about the belly. I just can’t imagine three more months of growth. It was like this last time too though and I survived. Thank goodness for bfing. Fingers crossed this baby is as good of an eater as my first.
Well, I signed us up for a hospital tour in October! I do need to get back on reading my WTE book. I can't find my physical copy though, so I've been checking it our digitally from the library.. then i forget i have it and when i go for it, my loan has ended, have to request again, there's usually a hold, repeat.
@Erinka My food spending has been insane the last few months. A big part of it is that H doesn't cook as much anymore now that there's DD. I definitely didn't go out for lunch as much during my last pregnancy. But my reasoning is kind of opposite yours - I'm like, spend now and then I'll be eating at home all during parental leave, lol! Prenatal water witness sounds heavenly. Also, I know it's super uncomfortable especially with someone in a "higher" position, but I hope next time you find the will to say something. One of the owners of my company made a "vacation" comment during my leave planning meeting and I called it out immediately (and uncomfortably). The other woman in the meeting didn't say anything in my defense, but I knew she was thinking it and probably appreciated my saying something. The other two owners (men) also said nothing. We moved on with no injuries (or apologies) but I felt good that I said something. (I hope this doesn't come across as condescending, I don't mean for it to. More in a girl power, we have each others' backs way )
Yes! Our hospital only does them like... the first/second Saturday and Tuesday of the month? The Saturday sessions fill up, and it's too far for us to go on a weekday evening.
@hoosiermama-2 I signed up for a hospital tour (at the beginning of Nov) because our hospital has gone through a remodel and I think things are not even on the same floor anymore. I also signed my kids up for sibling classes that will take them on their own tour. I do want to take a CPR course - I really need a refresher for the bigger kids and definitely on infant CPR as I haven't had to think about that for awhile. I only took a baby care class and a hospital tour the first time though, no birthing classes.
@hoosiermama-2 I very much appreciate your comments! And I did say something and he back tracked and obviously felt badly. He’s a dad and realized what I was saying.
I was at the hospital today for a blood draw & stopped at reception to ask about pre-registration paperwork & a tour. They told me to just go on up & I got a tour on the spot!
@mommythlegend Wow! That’s awesome! @erinka Would it be possible for her babysitter or someone from her daycare to keep her at least until the baby is born?
@katy0990 Maybe. It might be challenging bc this baby is due 12/26 and it could be tricky getting childcare or asking a friend to take DD during potentially peak holiday time. Hoping this baby comes on a day that daycare is open!
Took DS to the fair this week. We had a good time, but being on my feet for 3 days straight had stirred up some BH contractions that almost took my breath away. DS is 3 1/2 and took care of me while I was wallowing in self pity on the couch. I am so proud of how much he loves his little sister even though she isnt born yet.
Also, he asked me when I ate the baby for her to be in my belly. We are getting to the root of some allergy issues DS has. He randomly started getting hives all over his body. I washed all of his clothes in free&clear detergent but to no avail. I figured our normal laundry detergent had changed ingredients or something...... poor kid just itches away when he gets it.
Nails: I had a 3 day weekend last week, I did some major cleaning and waxed our hardwood floors. Got all of my assessments done for the beginning of the year.... they were due in October. I found some sparkling juice that tastes like sangria.
Fails: my pregnancy brain is terrible. DS can ask for something and I've forgotten about it like 2 minutes later.
Very belatedly getting a chance to read this and respond! Mom type wise I am definitely an exhausted mom, due to being a career mom, who wishes I had more time to be a wine mom, lol. I also am a tiny bit of a helicopter parent, I think just because I had PPA after my DD was born and there's still some lingering anxiety or things that can trigger that anxiety sometimes.
Nails this week: DD has really adjusted to her new preschool class now and is back to loving school, thankfully. And she has been hesitant about acknowledging my bump or the fact she's getting a baby brother (she wanted a sister) but this week seemed to be a turning point and she said "hi baby!" to the bump, which was awesome.
Fails: DD's mama phase continues to be SO intense. I am so exhausted and I have to do literally everything for her or she freaks out. She won't even let me go to the bathroom by myself and if I am not the one who gets her to sleep she will wake up in the middle of the night screaming mama. I love my DD more than anything but hoo boy I cannot wait until this super intense mama obsession passes.
@westcoastfoodie Yeah it's only been 2.5 years over here and I feel like I forget everything!! I was googling some things last night about newborn schedules because I swear it has all left my brain entirely!
@kirstey728 ugh - I hate allergies. DS1 is my eczema, allergy kiddo and I feel horrible for him. I have never had him tested for outdoor allergies, but spring tries to kill him every year. This year I made sure to start his meds early and it wasn't nearly as bad. However, his eczema is bad. He is 9 and hates lotion, so part of the problem is that we are not consistent with the lotion. I'm hoping he will eventually see that lotion helps the situation and start putting it on himself.
@maureenmce I'm glad your DD is adjusting to school and coming around on talking about the baby! "Hi baby" - super cute!
@snugglyduckling25 this allergy this is weird... he broke out over the course of the day yesterday, but by 12 today his hives are gone. No other symptoms.. no breathing difficulty... nothing.
@hoosiermama-2 I 've been thinking about retaking my birthing class and doing the tour of the hospital again, just or the refresher. Whether we can take the class or not though depends on my husband's work schedule. If he can't go, I'm not going alone. lol
@maureenmce I'm glad to hear your DD has adjusted to her class well. Sorry about he mama phase. Hopefully it will pass soon! Does it have anything to do with her being in a new class, I wonder?
