@kirstey728 interesting on the allergy - that would drive me crazy to not know what it was related to. Something outside, detergent, something he ate. Hopefully it just doesn't come back!
@AdorkablePixie I think it's kind of a perfect storm of changes - she moved up to the preschool class from toddlers, she has become much more aware of my pregnancy, she recently potty trained and we've been reorganizing the entire apartment to make room for her baby brother, so I think it makes sense that she's clingy right now, it's just exhausting! Hopefully it passes soon.
Ugh. SO glad that I pulled DD's hair back nice and tight today. E-mail from one of the admins at school that they've got 5 confirmed cases of lice. Bleh.
@katy0990 I'm going to put some rosemary and tee tree oil into her detangler tonight, which may (or may not) repel lice. I'll be keeping her hair up tight for the next few weeks, too.
@runrinserepeat ugh...hopefully she doesn't get it! We got a letter on the second day of school about a confirmed lice case. It makes my hair itchy just getting the letter!
I have what’s maybe a really stupid question, but when you guys were kids were their a lot of lice outbreaks? I feel like between this and my first BMB, I hear about them a lot.
We had one my entire childhood in 4th grade. I ended up getting it, which is pretty rare for black people. So I’m wondering were there more outbreaks I just didn’t know about as a kid, or are there more happening now?

@krob My mom babysat so I was aware of quite a few outbreaks. I do think a lot of what the deal is now is social media and easy access to news just makes us more aware of it.
@krob Like @texas_t said I think social media and the fact that our generation is more “open” makes it seem like it is more prevelent. I remember when I sister got it, we were all sworn to secrecy and my mom was terrified someone would find out. Now, we know it happens to people with clean hair, and people are more open about it.
@krob We never had any "outbreaks" in school. A few kids would get it every year but it was never a huge issue. Was your school predominantly black children? If so, that would make sense. I do know that black people get it much less often that white people, I suspect it's because textured hair requires oil and/or protective styles to keep it from breaking, so the lice either have trouble clinging to the hair because of the extra oil or just simply can't gets through the tighter braids/twists. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like that makes sense?
@hkom I thought it was because of the use of oils, etc as well but apparently it’s the texture/curls of black hair that makes it difficult combined with tight styles like you suggest that make it rare in black community. My school was mostly white and the only time I ever heard about it was 4th grade.
@katy0990@texas_t I think you guys are probably correct social media and diminished “shame” around it, is probably the reason. Social media is the reason we hear about so many things that have been happening all along. I won’t be a debbie downer with my social justice soapbox
Thanks for your replies. Felt super awkward asking the question.

@krob I don't remember a ton of outbreaks when I was a kid, but I also probably wasn't paying attention. I am pretty sure I had lice as a kid once. We went to a small private school until I was in 6 grade though, and I don't think we ever had a lice issue there.

@krob my two cents...I don't remember break outs, but I do remember the nurse having to check us all for lice a couple times a year. So maybe there were breakouts and I just didn't realize? I always thought it was just a mandatory thing they did. I just remember it felt good as she was running her (gloved of course) fingers through my hair to check for lice, like a little head massage in a way lol.
