Walked 5 miles in 95° sun this morning (to the labor day parade and back). Now I'm a mess. Can't cool down, totally out of it, and generally struggling. Ugh.
Oh gosh @morgantu that's a lot! Would a cool shower help? Whenever I get overheated I just get in and let the cool water hit me right on the top of my head.
Just enjoying my Monday off. I finally mixed up borax with sugar to see if that will get rid of our ant problem. The raid traps aren’t working. I’d wanted to by the liquid taro kind (it’s the only one we’ve had success with before) but they were all sold out where I was. This is my first time trying borax. Fx!
SO was questioning me about if it’s worth it to make up a nursery when the baby is going to sleep in our room for the first 6 months or so AND we plan to move when our lease is up next summer- when he’d be about 6 months old. I was in a mood, and I just gave him a dirty look and told him I wasn’t talking about it right now. We’d already agreed we wanted a nursery for: daytime naps, to store all of baby’s stuff, and to eliminate the guest room. A 10 week long guest stay made me realize I like my house to myself. Idk what his 2cd thoughts are about.
@morgantu I hope you got a good cool down! Last time I over heated I just chugged ice water and laid down with a cool towel...because for some reason I don't just hop into a cool shower like a normal person.
@tumbleweed-1 We've used sugar & borax with success! Make a trap of peanut butter & borax too - because some ants are all about sugar, others are all about protein. Then use the remaining borax with your laundry, it's a great detergent booster We're moving with a six-month old babe too! Our house is tiny, so LO will sleep in the ol' bedside PackNPlay for the first few months, then we'll move him to the crib in the office (since we don't have a guest room). The real nursery will be in our next house, because we might be there as long as four years
AFM, I am also enjoying my Monday with DH. He's working, but he's home and doesn't mind that I'm just hanging out cruising labor day sales. Oh, we have familiar faces in this week's leaders

Also enjoying a day off. Dug out my moms old bread machine to make some French bread even though I can't eat much right now lol. I'm sure DH and DS will eat it though, I'm just really craving a slice! And I haven't personally used this thing in at least 7 years, probably closer to 9 though! My mom just text me and said she thinks she used it about 3 years ago, so that's probably the last time it was used.
Im also testing a maternity sewing pattern, so I got the pattern all printed and cut, just need to cut my cheap fabric and do a fit test. Going to work on that now while the toddler is napping! Hopefully finish cutting at least before he wakes!
@hkom@echo-charlietango I eventually cooled down with water, lemonade, sitting directly in front of the fan on high haha. I am still exhausted though. These physical limitations get me every time! Then I get even more frustrated with myself and it's a terrible cycle. I've sat myself on the couch and I don't plan to get up for the rest of the evening.
I just saw this comic today and I need to share it. This is for you Team Green

@tumbleweed-1 If it will help you best and feel prepared, I say set up a nursery! You can do it without going crazy and then just use everything you purchase in your new place.
Well, it took almost all weekend, but the new attic flooring and insulation are done! We got everything back up there, finally after almost 3 months of having stuff everywhere. Now, I can get DS’s playroom organized and start turning the nursery back into an infant room instead of a toddler room. We also got the dishwasher fixed (twice), the garbage disposal fixed, and H earned major brownie points by turning a phone jack into an outlet on the side of the kitchen without any! DS had a blast “helping” and I feel so accomplished!
@morgantu glad you're feeling better. Try to take it easy tomorrow if possible.
@echo-charlietango I hope you enjoyed your day with your hubby. That comic is fantastic lol
@CecilB93 homemade bread sounds amazing! How did it turn out?
@katy0990 yay the attic project is done! Congrats on being so productive.
@runrinserepeat we did chili a couple weeks ago. So good, but such heartburn. I feel you!
@tumbleweed-1 if you both already agreed on the nursery, there's really no real reason NOT to go for it. Especially if that's your excuse to keep away unwanted guests!
Today was very calm, but somewhat productive. We postponed our party because we are both exhausted. Today was just the 2 of us, making breakfast together, enjoying coffee, unpacking a few boxes, and sorting through old paperwork for our town's shred event next Saturday. We have So.Much.Paperwork. I don't know If they'll let us actually shred it all, it's like 5 boxes full. And we have more to go through in the garage still. Yikes!
@tumbleweed-1 I say if you guys agreed to it and you have the space, go for it! We had a terrible ant problem this summer and tried all sorts of traps. A lot of different ones worked, but what I found worked best was the ant bait gel by Hot Shot... it comes in a little syringe type thing. I hope the borax works for you! We actually haven't tried that, but may if they come back!
@scaredunprepared it's pretty good!! I don't think it rose as much as it should have, but I used all purpose flour and instant yeast instead of bread flour and active dry yeast, plus I think my water was too cold. So I wasn't surprised, but it still tastes good! I just made a simple French bread, I'd like to do a beer bread next time! Just need to get some beer! And the other proper ingredients lol. I love using the bread machine, it just takes up so much space on the counter!
Just signed up for all my hospital classes! Childbirth, breastfeeding, infant care and safety! We had to do it a little later, so I'll be like 37 weeks by the time we finish them up so hopefully baby stays in until i "know what I'm doing (BIG LOL)"
I have nothing really to add this week, other than being utterly exhausted. I don't know if anyone else struggled to get out of bed this morning, but I sure did. Hoping DD takes an early second nap at my mothers so we can all go to bed early tonight.
We've listed my car yesterday! Already had one person interested within the hour of posting it, which is pretty cool. The only bummer is that the battery died from sitting in the garage (since we already have the "new" car and I haven't driven my old car in a few of weeks). And our portable battery booster died some time ago, so we have to buy a new one before we can show anyone the car, lol (we meant to buy another anyway - it's great for long trips in case something happens).
@ab_canada we posted ours on Friday! We had one person test drive but no further interested. We will see what happens within a couple weeks. I really don't want to keep paying insurance on it so I'm hoping it sells fast!
I'm trying to get caught up on here since I don't get on much over the weekends. We had a fairly productive weekend of organizing. We have 2 boxes & 3 bags to go to Goodwill & 1 big bag to burn.. YAY. Got DS' too small clothes put away and all the 2T things out so when we move bedrooms we can just move his clothes. This was weighing on me as his next size up was in unorganized bags here and there that I got from SIL & then ones my mom bought like a year ago because she cray (I love it though). The only thing left to organize is getting out baby clothes which I will do after we move him to his big boy room. I made 135 energy balls this weekend. 60 of them are carrot & dates and the other 75 are skinny PB which I kind of messed up by putting too much flax seed in and then having to add a lot of water so they're very blah. Maybe this will help me not eat a million of them at once. They are all frozen in baggies already.
I made the mistake of buying oreos & graham crackers and ate way too many of those as well as DS' fruit snacks this weekend. I wasn't even hungry for supper last night because of all the good food this weekend. Back on the wagon today!
DS did the most adorable this last night and I must brag: His bedtime of 8 came around & I said "what do you think, should we go night night buddy?". He usually says "nooo" or just doesn't respond. Last night, however, he grabs his blanket and comes up to me and hugs me then starts walking to his room. I follow him & he's trying to crawl into his crib so I pick him up to tell him goodnight and how much we love him and he arches his back and says "lay down". SO SWEET. I was worried that the excessive bedtime crying wouldn't end after we took away the binky, but three weeks in and he hasn't cried for over a week, hasn't asked for the binky in 2 weeks & now requests bed time. I have a unicorn & a very full heart.
Ohh one more random: I woke DH up this morning & asked him to join me in the shower along with my helpful wand toy. That was the best start to the week I could've asked for. Why is it so hard for me to initiate more often?!
@echo-charlietango love the comic! @Jens_Hoes fx for some napping for you today- i'm dragging too. I thought i'd be so well rested after a long weekend! @temmetime yes! Way to start the week off right
@texas_t If you like true crime, I would highly recommend Accused, Up and Vanished Season 1, Breakdown, and Serial Season 1. Also if you like trashy TV, Coffee convos is pretty good.
@texas_t My favorites are Stuff You Should Know, Grammar Girl, This Day in History Class, and This Week in Science. #learning

@katy0990 Thanks! I like true crime! I loved Serial Season 1. I just finished listening to most of My Favorite Murder. It was kinda annoying, but ok for work since I didn't have to be fully invested with listening. I can't believe I'm saying this out loud, but I really am not a TV person anymore (who have I become), so I'm not up on pop culture references, lol!
@texas_t I don’t have a pic of the attic itself, but here is a pic of the temporary access in DS’s big boy room (H is going to make a door this fall) and a pic of the nursery without 57478 bins in it.
@texas_t What kind of stuff do you like? I really like Lore which is folk lore stories and stuff about creepy stuff like hauntings. I also like Hardcore History if you’re a history buff. It’s super in depth but not boring.
@rosebud332 I started Lore earlier today! I'm on episode 3, I think! I like the audio quality, ha. I do like history when I don't have a test over it, so I'll try that one, too!
I was in Phoenix for the long weekend, visiting family. It's super hard to get back to work today! Also, I had a pinched nerve over the weekend that made my right arm feel funky. I think it's mostly gone, but I already had my monthly chiro appt scheduled for tomorrow... so hopefully it'll be fully gone after that.
My daily source for news presented in as lighthearted manner as it can be right now is The Daily Zeitgeist. I've really been enjoying By The Book and also The Minimalists recently. Past favorites that I don't think have been mentioned yet -- S Town, Stuff Mom Never Told You, This American Life, Snap Judgment, and I'm sure there are so many more I'm not thinking of right now. I'll update as I remember. For a funny parenting one I love/hate Nursing and Cursing.

@ab_canada & @kristah2 Congrats on listing those cars! Mine sold crazy fast and and it was awesome. (2008 Toyota 109K miles -basic sedan- $2,500) I was happy to get $1,800 but good thing I listened to DH who suggested I go higher. Local used market helped me too, all the other cars under $5K were actual POS non-running-rust buckets.
@temmetime OMG. I am jealous of your energy ball stash, but especially jealous of your sweet little unicorn little man. I can only hope that ours will be as sweet when sleepy
Meanwhile I just got my first/last full strength (syrup-wise) PSL - since I only allow myself one each year around launch. But I bought it from a Sbux that I don't trust because the last time I ordered two different drinks I got two of the same drink...so now I'm paranoid that I don't have exactly what I ordered. #FWP

@echo-charlietango amen on the PSL! I also allow myself 1 full strength & also 1 pumpkin pie blizzard if the occasion arises. I had one on Saturday & felt like a jumping bean from all the sugar
Speaking of coffee, I went to a new coffee house called Summer Moon Coffee this weekend and they serve a Nitro Cold Brew coffee with their special 7 ingredient "Moon Milk". I told the chick I don't like my coffee very sweet, so she suggested a get a "1/4 Nitro Moon" coffee. Holy crap, guise. It was like drinking a dark nitro beer with just a little bit of sweet. It was so creamy and delicious. I raved about it for an hour straight
@texas_t Oh, I love a good nitro coffee, and I'm curious about this fancy Moon Milk A local coffee shop does nitro coffee vanilla floats - I need to pester DH to join me for a float sometime. Mmm.
