Me! I turn 39 in January. My mom was 42 when she had her last, so I guess I come by it honestly. I'm excited about the free NIPT test, not so excited for how my back is going to feel in about 6 months.
@lyse01, it may depend on your insurance but for me with my first (age 35), the NIPT screening was covered as well as a few extra ultrasounds. I didn't have an NT scan, CVS or amnio, but if I'd needed them, I expect they would have been covered. I'll probably have at least the NT this time.
@berky84 I believe it's age at delivery that counts? It's probably worth confirming that with your doctor, especially if you're figuring out insurance coverage.
Apparently with the NIPT (non invasive prenatal testing, aka testing the dna of your baby from your blood sample to check for chromosomal abnormalities @mdmommymegs ) you find out the sex of the baby. I just checked and I’m not covered for it unless I’m over 40 or have had previous babies with chromosomal abnormalities.
@peaceinnature@mdmommymegs I had the NIPT during my last pregnancy (age 35) and it wasn’t covered, but was only $100. I didn’t do it to find out sex, but did it for the chromosomal abnormalities information.
@Merinmac - lucky me, all genetic testing was covered last time too! So I’ll just prepare for extra appointments! I’ll demand a more detailed breakdown of my office’s protocol at my nurse intake appointment.
Hi rennie! Congrats!!! I have a darling 13 y.o. boy, he will be 14 in April, so the age difference is going to be pretty significant between him and the baby, but because he is so independent now it funnily also feels like the perfect time to have another!
I was 35 when I had my DD. Easy pregnancy, few symptoms... mostly just craved brussel sprouts and chicken Caesar salads. Current pregnancy at age 38: bloated, kinda weird not quite constipation/sometimes the other problem and the fatigue(!) is pretty real. It’s all normal pregnancy stuff, but because my first was so easy, I am convinced something is majorly wrong and want to have all the testing done immediately.
@edotf104 Hi! Happy last week of summer! I'm a reading specialist in Frederick Co. Where are you?
I'm in Salt Lake City! I'm originally from Ohio and actually my husband and I will be moving to LA next year after his daughter graduates high school. Moving to LA with a baby......that should be interesting!
@laurainoakland I have a 14 year-old son who will be almost 15 when this little one is due. It's an extreme gap, but I'm so excited to see how he interacts with his younger sibling. Also, built in birth control. I'll provide it. lol.
Re: Advanced Maternal Age
EM means emergency medicine right?

@mdmommymegs Sorry! And yes, Emergency Medicine.
@RainNFyre, no worries. I bet you've seen some crazy s#@t, huh?
@RainNFyre 1/28! Almost twins, lol.
